The Plague, called the Grey Phage has eluded Pilon's efforts to contain it.
According to research done by the Ministry of Health the disease is transmitted by Contact and is also capable of being transmitted through the Air.
Some initial efforts in fighting using Genetic Engineering Technique unique to Pilon have shown promise. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have now issued the request of all nations.

After a long deliberation, the HCoD has decided to put all Sisgardian assets of Pilon on quarantine to prevent the disease from spreading.
Emergency science teams are to be sent into Pilon to help in the study of the plague.

In the meanwhile, the TNDF would completely encircle the nation of Pilon. Requestst for assistance have been issued to the military of TVC and DA.

All Piloneese citizens on the territory of the Grand Duchy will be taken into custody by the Healthcare Department.
Emergency measures are to be installed in the Grand Duchy, with people having to wear respirators.

The military operations were conducted secretly. Both for the space as for the naval groups the official redislocation reasons were ongoing military exercises.

With an official announcement pending the medical community issued a request to the SDF to contain the virus, if it had indeed come to Sunset. Scanning procedures were put in place at all major transit locations, as well as spaceports and outbound ships.

Cases began occuring in the eastern Vallis Marineris region, and containment procedures were initiated to lock it down even more locally. Pilon citizens in Sunset were checked for the disease, then released with orders to report in on any suspicion of the disease.

The medical community also went to work with the nearby nations, establishing guidelines for inter-nation movement. Hoping to prevent a flood of travellers they also began readying supplies and staff to go to Pilon's Martian colony to help prevent the spread of the disease. Carriers leaving Pilon and spreading it to the rest of Mars was the biggest concern right now.

The Empire of Diablo_NL stops all trade with Pilon, and has all citizen's currently in Pilon recalled back. But first have to go by a screening on board off shore medical vessels.

Furthermore no one from Pilon is allowed to enter Diablo_NL's soevereign ground. If they do they shall be shot emediatly and disposed of correctly.

Furthermore all citizen's must now wear mouth and nose filters at all times.
Militairy personell will wear them aswell, in conjuction with biochem suits.

Just a couple things, we will cooperate fully with your quarantine on Sisgardia and share any knowledge you require with the scientists sent. Also our Arcologies are underwater and the Penisula is no longer a Penisula (read the Ecobomb thread) Its mostly abandoned, we live under water.

A full-scale lockdown has been announced for all Kasei border colonies. Those outside the subterranean tunnels and/or HAB cities are advised to avoid international travel.

OOC: The disease has a 48 hour Incubation period before any real symptoms start to appear. After that period lesions and sores start to appear on the face, and body of the afflicted. Within 96 hours of infection the carrier's skin turns grey and open wounds begin to appear as the infection eats through the skin. Bleeding and Pain follow soon afterward. Within the next 2-4 hours numerous additional open wounds appear and eventually the subject dies of loss of blood or infection.

IC: The nation of Pilon requests samples of Afflicted person's DNA as well as unafflicted family members, it is hoped that with these additional samples we will soon find a cure to the plague.

All that Phage means is Eater. No it is not an actual Phage, we call it the Grey Phage because as the Affliction sets in Necrosis turns the skin Grey and the skin begins to open up as if it is being eaten with sores all over the body, quite gruesome actually.

We estimate that the Disease has been loose upon our people for the last week or so, everyone we've had contact with since that time is at risk.
We estimate as many as 50,000 of our people carry the disease already.

Wazzu Lifeworks is now setting up farms for the plants and will sell extract at only 10% (usual is 200% or more) above cost to MIDAS members. Production is still too low to satisfy MIDAS demand, so nations outside this pact are not being offered this therapy until more plants can be grown.

In addition, the Government of Wazzu is offering inflatable domes (good for above or below ground/water surface use) to MIDAS members to serve as temporary quarantine areas. These domes will be provided free of charge.

"It seems as though the quarantine would be pointless at this time. The disease has spread to the borders of the Theocracy of Anti-Funitism and we only have one nation to blame...Pilon. In answer to your questions:
The Disease is caused by a Virus, from our studies the Virus in dorment mode can remain intact under harsh conditions (those in which a human cannot survive) for as long as 24 hours but under non-harsh conditions thrives on non-human lifeforms, everything from single celled creatures (which it attacks and consumes like a predator) to caracases to animals and even plants. Without access to any food source the Virus dies after 48 hours. All forms of anti Bacterial and anti Viral medications and treatments short of Extreme Radiation exposure are ineffective, in fact 3/4ths of them stimulate growth.

We are most interested in this Plant, if you could send us one we would be willing to give Wazzu any additional crops we grow at cost. This will aid in your production of plants and allow us access to another tool to fight the outbreak.

Yes there are, the biggest problem with the disease is that it lays dorment for 48 hours, in which time you can trasmit the disease without knowing you even have it. The first cases were only reported within 2 hours of our announcement and we have all but stopped the spread of the disease within our own people, the main spead of the disease is more of those who already had it are coming down with the symptoms.

Please know, that the Lower Council for Health and Medicine has been ordered to send all data we have on similar plagues to their Pilonese collegues.

Also, we regret to announce that none of our employees will be allowed to venture into Pilonese territory before this epidemic is fully under control. Pilonese citizens, mostly present in our trade centers in Uthar and Hermes, have been isolated from the rest of the population. Junior Officer Durian Kallosh and his platoon had been dispatched to Hesperia District Shopping Centre, apparently a gang had begun looting supplies and other goods and the local police were overwhelmed, 29 officers killed, 5 taken hostage. He was supposed to restore order, "Illuminate the situation, bring order to the chaos." read the communication from high command.

Kallosh's APC came to a sudden halt, the deployment rune had turned a pale green. The door crashed open, it was hell! bodies littered the ground...some from the plague others from gunshot wounds, some he just couldn't tell. His men rushed out before him, aquiring targets and liquidating them with ruthless efficiency. 11 Gang members killed in less time then it took them to leave the transport. Kallosh stayed in his APC, directing his Platoon via the Tactical command centre. Chalk 2 had reported the shopping centre to be clear of hostiles...the food and everything else was unedible now, they could be contaminated. Kallosh took up his mic and relayed an order, "Collect everything that may be contaminated...burn it."

500 people had been lost to either the virus or greed.

He was leading an armoured column into the great wastes that laid outside of Vascilia City, they had dispatched several groups of raiders. Turksilvania had been taking advantage of the hysteria stirred by the plague and sent in teams to gather resources...Marduk had lost count of how many of them they had killed. The column continued on its patrol.

Ah...now Wazzu made a very good point about the AF Health Care system, why did 500,000 people get contaminated so quickly you ask? no, its not the source of the infection. But I have a good reason as to why it spread quickly.

Since the space battle began above mars and a certain unnamed nation dropped an asteroid on my country killing 4 million people and injuring many thousands more my hospitals have been swamped...the simply thought that this disease was an outbreak of Herpes or some sort of another rash and were treating it as such. But with the triage situation in the medical facilities they haven't been just sending these people out and treating the most desperately ill. Poor Sanitation in the the effected districts(In and around West Margaritifer) have also contributed to the spreading of the disease.

So in short...my health care is as good as any other., but its just being overwhelmed at the moment.

It had taken a while, but the Cybrids had reached their location. Once they found the Pilonese that where supposed to greet them, the Cybrids brought forth a large contained that was placed on an simple remote controled transport.

Waiting a, what it believed to be polite, small ammount of time to let the Pilonese observe the container, the head Cybrid spoke again.

The Cybrid head swiveled, litteraly, to the side. The large darkened stripe of glass that seemed to resemble a visor calmly observed the procautions that the Pilonese had taken into effect to try and protect themselves against the plague.

The Pilonese delegates thanked the Cybrid for their contributions then motioned for them to follow, they headed off toward the research pavilion.

Wazzu Elysium Under Quarantine

After cases of the mysterous Grey Phage have grown to over 10,000, Wazzu Cheif Executive Board Member Brian Walton has ordered a general quarantine in Wazzu Elysium. This is not just a quarantine of the nation, but of individual habitats.

All citizens in the colony have been ordered to remain indoors for the next 72-96 hours, or until the government gives an 'all-clear' signal. Wazzu Lifeworks planners hope that this will isolate the disease at least until its symptoms become easily visible, and those contaminated seperated from those free.

The Wazzu military is calling up full and part-time soldiers by the hundreads of thousands to enforce the quarantine. Many have already been seen wearing pressure and contamination suits going from area to area to make sure seals between habitats are secure. Inflatable dome colonies with decontamination centers on every entrance have been set up for the soldiers in hopes of warding off infection.

Other measures are also on the increase. Rushelia Plants are being hastily grown aeroponically in habitats that have seeds, while extract and seeds from the plants are being shipped to MIDAS-II nations from Earth along with blood samples and detergent.

It has been found that simple clothing detergent molecules expload on contact with viral protein shells. When a fine powder is blown into air, the molecules act as microscopic bombs and destroy viruses [[OOC: a real life technology]]. It is still inconclusive if this technology will work on the Grey Phage, but hopes are as high as the need for truely reliable and easy non-biological decontamination rooms. [[OOC2: This of course has no effect on viruses in living beings, just those in the air or on surfaces)]].

Following the huge and ultimately unneccesary deployment of forces on Earth in the AMF war, and the recent limiting of Hermes Spacelines trade routes away from Earth and Mars due to the AMF and VC wars both, the contamination is comming as a third hard blow to the Wazzu economy. But so far, government planners are halfway thankful.

"If the AMF and VC wars had not restricted Hermes ships to Titan and Venus, we may well be seeing an outbreak on Earth and Luna right now." stated government speaker Manar Tawam earlier today. "So it is actually somewhat of a relief in that since, as outbreaks here would be harder to control and much more damaging. That said, what we really fear is this virus spreading to the bioforming Martian environment. Wazzu Cytherea on Venus is taking similar measures as Wazzu Elysium, but cases there are not expected. The Venusian atmosphere is still too hostile for even this plague, and the plague became known before any cases could spread there. Ares Station, Aphrodite Station, Wazzu Asgard, and New Nasustiro all report no known cases, and are also expected to remain Phage-free.

PNN Update - After several weeks of struggling the Pilonese Government have managed to control the spread of the disease. Using an experimental technique involving the new Node Mk II system they have been able to relieve some of the discomfort felt during the final stages of the disease but have not yet managed to cure the disease. Studies go on and aid for multiple foreign governments is helping. On Sisgardia the last reported case has been taken to a research pavilion and no new cases have been found on Sisgardia. On Venus only 2 cases were reported. On Mars where the worst of the outbreak exists almosts 65,000 people have been infected. Of those 65,000 more than half have already died.
Some recently uncovered information traces the origans of this disease to a couple tourists who traveled to AF before the war, it is believed they contracted the disease in that country and brought it here. This would also explain why there are more cases in that country and the cases in that country began before the first reported cases in Pilon. Investigations continue.

The body was grotesque. Grey, half eaten, oozing with yellow and white pus, unnatural flesh tone throughout the skin. Of course, he had seen far worse things. Rotting flesh, dissolving skin, all required of a scientist in the Bio Ops of the Zee Trust.

The Cybrid inquisitors had done their best to develop the cure, but had been beaten to it by the others. None the less a cure had been developed and as they were ordered, the Cybrids had gone in an attempt to help.

They downloaded the knowledge of how to cure the virus and another had long since collected a few samples, easily stored away within it's own body.

After they had congratulated the Pilonese and send a more heartfelt congratulation to the Tarrans, the Cybrids returned to their vehicle and proceeded the journey home soon after.

While no Cybrid enjoyed to fail in their tasks, a part of the Cybrid Inquisitors minds were pleased that it was not they who developed a mean to help 'animals'. Besides, the more indepth study they could perform on the Grey Phage samples back in their own laboratories should be most 'exiting'.

Marduk travelled west for 223 kilometres, stopping twice, once to rest and once to refuel the column. He'd almost turned the convoy around a few times...'this was ridiculous' he kept thinking to himself. With all his knowledge of warfare he knew this had to be an ambush. But something propelled him to the speaker...something in her voice just leapt into his mind. He had to meet this woman. Many times his Junior officers had complained to him about their situation, he had replied telling them to "Shut the hell up, or I'll shut you up." that seemed to make them stop. The Canyon appeared as if out of nowhere, Marduk ordered the column to stop immediately. They did, but not without their complaints. He ordered his driver to proceed into the canyon...meeting destiny.

Overlord Rogal Kint sat in his throne, his mood was rotten. He had shot three of his aids earlier for incompetance...Marduk was still alive. He could feel his presence still on Mars. "I would kill Filobe for this..."

The Leader of Chalk 1 was still searching the back alley's of the Shopping district, they were nervous. It was like someone was watching them...but how? they had killed everyone here, didn't they?

Platoon Leader Killosh was still sitting in the Command APC directing the movements of his troops. They had all reported, well, nothing really. They had been spooked. They felt like they were being watched...Killosh just attributed it to the plague. Nobody in the AFDF was spared the horror of the disease...even the administrative personell had to deal with it...calculating the numbers of the dead, typing letters to families that had lost members to the Virus, this wasn't what they were trained for...Damn MIDAS for what they had unleashed upon them, Damn them to hell!.

Suddenly, Killosh heard movement from behind him. He jumped out of his seat and drew his pistol in one smooth movement, but the enemy was already on him. A scissor kick dropped Killosh to the ground, another one came into the APC behind the other and put three rounds into Killosh's skull, killing him immediately.

Chalk 1 had spotted one of them, briefly. The Squad leader was shot dead..."Sniper!" bellowed Janus Constantine, the new squad leader. Chalk 1 darted into the closest cover available. They were pinned, 'who could do this!?' he thought.

It was not us who caused the death of so many people, even with our precision guidance the Asteroid went off course and headed straight for your population center, which was far from our target area, only a tractor beam or some other such deception would cause such an error in our Asteroid's trajectory. Constantine stayed put, he couldn't move...they were all penned in, like animals. One of his squad mates risked a look out the doorway he was sheltering in, his face was exploded by a bullet. It was the first time he had ever seen someone killed...but it would definitely not be the last.

Marduk had waited in the canyon for over an hour now, nothing was here. It was pitch black out...the night vision system barely worked in this darkness. Marduk was about to order his column out but suddenly a hangar door opened up in the middle of the enormous canyon, the light it put out was to intense for the NVS to handle. Frustrated, Marduk climbed to the cuppola of his tank and spotted with his magnoculars. He saw 3 figures, he couldn't tell who they were....but he just knew. Marduk barked into the hatch "Move towards the light!"

The Canyone was huge, it took them 30 minutes to to get within 200 metres of the hangar door, the engine stopped abruptly, in fact all the systems in the tank shut down completely..."Vascilian EMP device no doubt" said Marduks engineer, the Overlord turned to him and said "No...its something else, something more...divine." Marduk had tears running down his face, the crew was shocked. Their Commander had never shown any emotion other than Anger or Indifference, what has happened to their leader?

The group had come close to the tank, Marduk had leapt out of the cuppola to meet them but he had been dumbstruck. He had stopped suddenly. He seemed like he didn't know where he was...

Frankly Marduk didn't know why the hell he was here, this reeked of an ambush from the beginning but blindly he had continued...He answered, "I dont have a clue why...what do you want of me!?" the voice was beautiful...female no doubt, it had reminded Marduk of his mother. "We are to guide you Marduk...you have great things to accomplish." Marduk was stunned, over come by emotion that he had been raised to despise, had begun to cry openly now. "What are you talking about?" his voice was strained. Marduk collapsed.

Overlord Rogal Kint sat in his command throne, reviewing a list of names..."Marduk, Celazk, Barislav and Zhukat" he had read them allowed. Kints newest aid had been quicker than the others, he kept his mouth shut, but he knew what was going on. Kint was seizing power...and though Noble House Kint had been one of the most powerful of all the houses he still had enemies, some even more powerful than himself...charismatic too.

Zhukat represented the Arabs, they controlled the majority of the food production and though he could just ignore Zhukat the Agricultural industry was far to precious.

Celazk represented the Slovenian population, they controlled the orbital shipyards and the majority of the fleet...he was far to much of a threat to be left alive.

Barislav represented the Czechs, though they had very few technological or agricutural holdings they were still the largest ethnic group...it was obvious what the outcome had to be.

and of course there is Marduk, leader of the Poles. They were the most influential of all the Noble Houses. Marduk had controlled the largest manufacturing consortiums in all of Vascila...until the war, his people had all been killed in that callous asteroid attack, though Marduk had lost all his worth he was still far to charismatic of a leader to be let loose, in politics in pays not to have any enemies.

Kint had look up to the Strategic display..."Marduk...Damn you!" The Overlord looked down at his newest assistant and said "You! I have a job for you!" Senior officer Rodriquez clicked his heels smartly and accepted what ever it was...
