OOC: I have a habit of not wrapping up threads, but leaving them dragging on. I'm trying to finish it up now, because I want to start a new thread soon which ties together this and several other stories into one place!

“Monsieur Richemont,” Dr. Abolins extends nods politely, “I’m sorry to meet you under such circumstances, but hopefully we can do something to improve your situation.” Abolins glances around nervously. “Monsieur, I believe there was an Excalbian agent with you when the initial exposure took place – Kirk Steward. Tell me, is he still alive and still among you? From your presence here as the best English speaker I take it he is dead or critical…”
Before the Crown Prosecutor can answer, Dr. Abolins looks at the troops with the equipment. “Monsieur Richemont, please have them go ahead and set everything up and have the medical staff begin preparing the most critically ill patient. We’ll begin with our first live trial immediately.”

"Absolutely." replies Richemont. "I'll be back in a moment, doctor."
He rushes off to speak to the lieutenant, who nods. The troops move on the double, packing the gear into the elevator, as Richemont rejoins Abolins. The lift starts descending the tower as Richemont starts talking again.
"About Agent Steward, doctor," says Richemont. "He's not in great shape, no, but he's alive and he's not in critical condition just yet. I'm the best Pantocratorian English-speaker, not the best English speaker present, pardon me if I mislead you. You see, things have been pretty tense in here, and people have been getting paranoid. The prisoners are virtually rioting. The troops in particular don't know who to trust - their own high command has bombers hovering over their heads after all. They're not sure who they can trust, and... well, you know."
The lift reaches the bottom of the tower, and the troops rush out with the equipment towards the makeshift laboratory.

"Thank you, Monsieur Richemont," Dr. Abolins says as she begins unpacking some of her more sensitive equipment. "I just hope that we're able to help before..." The doctor looks up reflexively. "I'm sure you've already guessed. But, at least," she tries to manage a smile, "you and your men can rest assured that I share your fate and so am quite motivated to succeed!"
Among her equipment is a laptop computer, that when opened initiates a wireless connection to the Excalbian Embassy and through the Embassy to the Holy Empire's array of artificial intelligence networks. "There," she says with satisfaction. "This way, the AI nets can monitor our progress and help us recalculate dosages on the fly." She turns back to the Crown Prosecutor. "In a few more minutes I'll be ready for the first patient."
