"What is that?"

"I have no idea sir. we picked it up on sensors yesterday and headed to intercept."

"Looks like some spacecraft of Earth origin but... it's less advanced than our craft."

"Send a boarding party to search for any signs of who's craft it is. Theres no life from what this says, but be careful."

An Imperial Drake Boarding craft attatched itself to the huge crafts hull.

The Halcyon Class Frigate, the Great Wall hung in space, cloaked, near the Imperial Navy and Taiidan vessels. Quietly the crew scanned the wreckage...

Captain... The wreckage is not ours... The sensors have found lifeforms aboard the wreckage... But the readings are not constant...

Good, keep an eye on the ships of the other nations and get a team into the wreckage...

Turan woke up, awoken by an automatic signal that was relayed through his nerve system. He found himself inside a cryogenic pod, together with the rest of the "Abominus" crews. His mind was fuzzy, and it was hard to think straight. As the minutes past, however, he regained full consciousness, and managed to get his thoughts ordered.

The signal could only have been sent by the ships' system for merely one reason: danger. Immediately, he started releasing himself from the systems that connected him with the pod. After a few more minutes, his body was free and his body temperature was at normal levels again. Before running back to the bridge, he took his time to issue a central command to the computer, ordering it to wake all personnel.

As he reached the bridge, Turan headed over to the central console. After issuing a few commands, the bridge came back to life. One by one, the different consoles lit up. Monitors and viewing screens flickered a few times and then came completely online. The main screen, a large projection of the area in front of the vessel, came to life, showing the foreign vessels in front of the "Abominus". Turan was a 32 year old naval officer, one of the best of his year. His hair had gone gray at early age already, yet his body was a display of youth and strength. As he stood there, running checks for the different systems on board, other Kiithid crewmembers started entering their bridge. Well trained as they were, they took their positions behind the appropriate systems without asking any questions. If they needed to know anything, their captain would tell them.

Without turning around to face his crews, Turan started adressing them.
"Something has gone wrong. Our journey is only 64% complete. Even with only the bridge and the cryogenic systems online, we have somehow been detected. Several vessels have surrounded us, signatures showing them to be Imperial Alliance members, plus several unknown ones. Some of the docks have already been used as entry points for foreign vessels..."

After stating this, Turan thought for a moment. His mission was highly classified. Each person on this vessel had voluntarily accepted his or her duties on this vessel, knowing the danger that came with it. They had found it drifting in space six months ago, a large capital ship, piloted by a central computer instead of an integrated pilot. After careful analysis, Corporate officials had decided to send the vessel on its current mission. Their cargo was too precious to let the IA get hold of it, former allies or not. So precious, that it could not even be transported through hyperspace, hence the long travel through normal space. After short hesitation, Turan dispatched a message to all surrounding vessels.

"This is Captain Turan Draconis, commander of the vessel "Abominus". Your vessels and crews are interfering with an official Corporate mission, and we request that you leave this area and allow us to continue our jounrney. Please order your crews to leave the Abominus.
Thank you."

After that, Turan ran status checks on the defence systems of the vessel, only to conclude that they could be activated at any time he wished. With both himself and his bridge crew on full standby, Turan also saw that the foreigners on board of the ship had not yet discovered the bridge and cryogenic pods. The main deck had already been reached, but the bridge doors were still closed, fortunately.

"Well, now we just have to await their reply..."

But there was one more thing to do. And fortunately, the looters outside had not learned of its existance yet. Turan turned around, with a worried look on his face. Even if it was still unseen by the foreigners, he still had to make sure it was intact and untouched. As he headed for an elevator entrance, two marines, freshly awoken from their artificial sleep, took their positions behind them, their assault rifles ready to engage any possible threat. In the elevator, both the marines stretched their muscles a little, something hardly noticable. They knew they were still a little bit stiff from their five month sleep, and wanted to return the strength to their muscles as fast as possible.

After half a minute, the elevator started slowing down, until it eventually came to a full stop. As Turan and his escorts exited it, they found themselves in a cargo bay, a room that was extensively adapted by Corporate scientists and engineers. Additional platings on the walls, floors and ceilings, plus several large generators connected to specialized systems, made sure nothing could detect this room, or what was in it, for that matter. Not a single scanner, pulse, or other piece of equipment would be able to get any readings at all about this hall. And that, Turan thought, was a big relief.

Standing on one of the galleries above the main floor, Turan beheld the object that was the reason for this travel. A holy artifact, found deep inside the Abominus. Large amounts of symbols and text, all in ancient Kushan language could be found on its surface. Several images on it representing ancient battles and historical events had been cleared from layers of dust. Now, the artifact was shimmering in the light of the hangar, and Turan and his men witnessed its beauty. Truly, this artifact was holy, with the words of Sajuuk and the symbols of the First Race written on it. Standing there, Turan realized he would do anything to get it to the Sajuuk Shipyards.

"Vessel is identified as a VC ship sir."

"Open a channel."

"Your on Admiral."

"This is Admiral Tylar of the Heavy Cruiser Freedom. We had no idea this ship was yours my old friends, but we have repaired your systems for you. We apologise, and will leave the area at once. Freedom out."

He turned to his commander.

"Call back all our men and prepare to jump."

"Aye sir."
21-10-2003, 13:20
Upon Turan's return to the bridge, a message was waiting for him. He read it, smiled, and then responded, clearly relieved by what he just read.

"Thank you ever so much, admiral. We were aware of the broken systems, yet none of them was necessary to continue our voyage. However, we still wish to thank you for your efforts. Naturally, the nature of our mission does not allow us to let any of those already on board of our vessel go. All others are of course free to leave."

Turan issued a series of commands to the computer, and immediately all hangar and docking doors closed. In the hallways of the vessel, security doors also closed, locking any who were still on board inside.

When the anticipated question came, Turan took a moment to rethink his actions. His orders from naval command had been clear. Five months ago, he had been lead into a small briefing room, where Admiral Paktu had briefed him personally. His mission orders clearly stated that, when possible, anybody who had been inside the ship to investigate should be kept there. If that happened, those persons should be isolated in separate quarters and be taken to the Sajuuk Shipyards. There, it would be decided what to do with them.

On the other hand, none of the vessels present here had shown a sign of agression, or the intention to cause harm to the holy relic in the cargo bay. But, Turan thought, that was irrelevant. Not only did he have his orders, he also realized the importance of his mission himself. Seconds later, he ordered his communications officer to return the following message.

"Though we are convinced your intentions are good, and that nothing but curiosity has caused you to board our vessel, we cannot allow your team to return. We apologise for this, and we can imagine how harsh such a decision must sound to you. However, there is no other choice. The men and women on board of our ship may not leave. They will be taken to our destination, and there we will decide on future course of action."

I DEMAND that you release my men!!! It will be considered an act of war if you keep my engineers aboard your vessel. If you do not release them immediately, I will personally press the little buttons to neutralize your vessel and take my men back by force...
21-10-2003, 14:54
Turan raised an eyebrow in surprise. Surely, such warmongering language was highly inappropriate in a situation such as this. Again, he doubted his orders, but when he saw the resolved and dedicated expressions on the faces of his men, he knew his current course was the right one.

--

"Please. Such displays of aggression are not necessary. Allow me to remind you, that you were the one to board our vessel. When you encountered it, you simply assumed it was abandoned and ready for the taking, even though you must have detected signals of life on board, emerging from the cryogenic chambers.

You boarded a ship that was not abandoned, without permission of its crew and captain. Technically, that is an act of war performed by you, towards the Vortex Corporation. But because of the circumstances, we are willing to let this one slip, and we sincerely hope you will do the same.

As for your crews, the situation is the same. They boarded us without permission. We therefore have the right to consider them pirates, and treat them accordingly. But once again, because we perceive your actions as part of a misunderstanding, we will not do so. We will, however, keep them on board and take them to the Sajuuk Shipyards. I assure you that no harm will come to them. We will contact you when we reach our destination, and then we will decide, together, on what will happen."

The Great Wall in response faded away as it cloaked. It powered up its shields, ion cannons, and its EMP shockwave launchers and moved to neutralize the Vortex warship.

OOC: We are only going to neutralize the ship's power and board it to retrieve our men...

IC: The fifty engineers aboard the Vortex warship drew their firearms. Among them, disguised as engineers were twenty 5CN combat marines. They drew their heavy weaponry and prepared to fight...
21-10-2003, 15:51
"FCN warship, don't do this. If you fire a single shot, it will draw your nation and ours into a war of proportions you have never encountered before. Decloak, and power down your weapons. Your crews will not be harmed, as I said before.

Repeat: the life of your people is not in danger. We do not want to engage in combat with you, and have no intentions to do so either. All we will do is keep your crews on board until our mission is completed succesfully. They will be taken to the Sajuuk Shipyards, and they will arrive there without a scratch on them.

Power down your weapons! If you destroy us, you also destroy your own people. We will not be stopped in our mission! We must continue our voyage! This is a holy journey for us, a pilgrimage if you will. Please allow us to continue."

Turan issued new commands, and the shields of the ship were raised while defence systems were brought online. The message that the foreigners were trapped in a sealed of section of the ship, hardly got through to him. Corporate crews had used a month of investigation time to thoroughly improve the defensive capabilities of the Abominus.

Hopefully, they would not have to be used. Turan stood in the middle of the bridge, his crews vastly determined to let nothing intervene their holy voyage. Stopping the pilgrimage was impossible to imagine, almost as unthinkable as interrupting a voyage down the old Path of Light back on Kharak.

"Please, don't be as foolish as so many others in this universe are! Why can't you realize the importance of this mission? Any information about the interior of this ship, and it's cargo, is potentially threatening to the succes of our mission. We simply cannot let them go. Please, understand!", Turan prayed, hoping that the enemy warship would not be as foolish as to instigate a war over something such as this. He knew that the entire ship was filled with religious enscriptions, Kiith banners and other religious items. The vessel had been blessed and transformed into a moving sanctuary, because a true sanctuary was the only thing worthy of carrying such a relic.

Just before the shields were 100% powered up, encoded messages were sent to the appropriate receivers.

ooc: in other words: interrupting our pilgrimage is a BAD thing. We're kind of religious.

ooc: remember I've closed down all corridors and rooms with HEAVY blast doors. So it will take some time to blast through them. And then you simply encounter the next door.

The Fifth Space Battle Group recieved the message requesting assitance from pirates.

The nine vessels wheeled about, drive fields shredding the very fabric of space as they blazed ahead under 370 gravities of acceleration.

Gravitic sensors picked the mass of the cloaked vessel out as clear as day, as the battle group, under the command of Rear Admiral Mahan, closed within a 100 thousand kilometers.

"FCN warship your vessels in violation of established protocols governing Solar system usage. Drop your cloak and power down your weapons, and surrender your ship for performing an act of piracy against a civilian vessel of another nation. Any deviation from these orders may result in your destruction."

Weapons ports slide open, as the gravitic sensors locked home on the pirate.

"You have thirty seconds to comply."

A single missile lanced out from the forward batteries, and as it slide within 100 kilometers of the pirate vessel, it exploded violently in a 500 megaton ball of destruction.
21-10-2003, 16:26
Turan watched as visual images confirmed the arrival of the Sentient Peoples flotilla. Before their holy voyage had started, the Corporate naval commanders had known the Abominus would have to cross territory where SP vessels patrolled space. Permission to cross those sectors was quickly given by the SP government, when a delegation of Corporate diplomats was dispatched to request clearance to let the Abominus pass.

When Turan was waked from his artificial sleep, one of the first things he did after powering up the birdge systems, was notify the Sentient Peoples patrols of his position and situation. Before the voyage started, the Abominus captain had been given the proper frequencies to contact those vessels in case of emergency. The arrival of this flotilla pleased Turan. Perhaps now the foreign ship would stand down and accept the situation. Quickly, he ordered his second in command to transmit a summary of the situation, plus a record of all messages sent and received to the Sentient Peoples command ship.

Mahan quickly looked over the summary that was sent, and muttered under his breath. "Retards."

"Flag Captain Jackson. Prepare the Battle Group for combat."

"Aye sir."

Hidden by the ships positioning, broadside weapons ports slide open, and energy weapons were run out. The atonal howl of the General Quarters alarm screamed through the ships and crewmen slipped into vacsuits, and ran to their stations.

They would be ready.

The augmented shields of the Great Wall easily took the blast.

Commodore Stevson transmit a message to the SP vessels.

Imbeciles... We are trying to recover several of our engineers that are being held against their will aboard the Vortex vessel. Your actions is considered a declaration of war...

As the Commodore finishes speaking, the Great Wall fires an armor-piercing/shield-piercingEMP Shock Missile towards the SP ships...

A coded transmission is transmitted to all nearby 5CN ships...

The Great Wall launches thirty-six interceptors towards the SP ships.

"You boarded a manned vessel without permission, and now refuse to obey the laws of that vessel. That's equivalent to piracy in our book."

Mahan bared his teeth slightly. "Launch fighters. They've fired first, so shoot to kill."

The nine capital ships swung about, presenting their broadsides to the enemy as fighteres roared away.

60 Longswords and 12Broadswords flew outwards.

Defenses spoke, vomiting nuclear armed countermissiles and Kinetic defense missiles. None even broke through to the second level of active defense.

Jammers sprung to life, crushing down unfriendly transmission ability in the area.

And then, the Federation vessels spoke.

200 heavy kinetic kill missiles speared outward, flashing towards the 5CN vessel at five percent of light speed.

Then the plasma cannons fired. Lasers fired. Gigajoules of energy speared across space, easily overtaking the missiles and flashing by them.

Targeting was estimated at 75 percent accuracy, due to the enemy cloak.

Turan stood on the bridge of the Abominus. The entire vessel and its systems were now ready for combat.

"Engage the 5CN vessel. They have targeted and fired on Sentient People vessels. They are here to help us out, so we owe it to them to help them in turn."

Heavy Mass Drivers and Heavy Kinetic Guns targeted the same areas as the SP weapons, and soon trails of weapons fire soared through space, as tons of ammunition were emptied at the hostile vessel. Soon, the impacts of the heavy projectiles would shred through the enemy hull, eating its armor away in large pieces.

As the projectile weapons unleashed their payloads, secondary weapons systems enforced the already ongoing weapons fire. Several small hangars opened their doors, and groups of Leeches hovered out. With their low signatures they were almost undetectable. As soon as the eneny vessel would decloak, these microships would attach themselves to its hull and slowly eat the armor layers away, until they reached the internal systems, where the true damage would be done.

As the Leeches sought cover behind the Abominus, waiting for their chance to strike, the third and last series of offensive weapons on board was deployed. Two large weapons ports opened, and from both emerged a missile launcher. Once again, they aligned with the targeted vessels and missile trajectories of the SP vessels, after which each launched a full volley of Mercury missiles, relatively small, yet hardhitting projectiles especially designed for armor-penetrating capabilities.
