Bratianu, Banatolia
A new government has just been sworn in in the Banatolian capital of Bratianu, promising to bring with it a complete break from the authoritarian state-socialism of the past.
New President Constantine Aranian, leader of the Banatolian Development Party, announced his intentions in a speech televised throughout the nation. In it, he declared that Banatolians, "Have suffered too long under the iron glove of state-socialism. It is our duty to work with all forces - both within and without the state - to bring about the change which this great nation desires."
The Banatolian government, a coalition dominated by BDP members, has a broad-ranging reform agenda aimed at a rapid move away from the state-run economy. Doubts persist, however, about the ability of Aranian to fully implement his platform, as he is a former Secretary of State for the deposed Teodorescu regime.
