Socialist Party Leadership Convention - Part 1 of 4

Soviet Haaregrad

As Haaregradia moves into her next election, the one that may very well set the stage for the future of the nation all parties must elect a candidate to run for Supreme Counciler.

With the Blue/Republican Party swiftly gaining on the Orange/Social Democrat Party a new leader must be found to ensure the party remains in power. Two candidates have made it to the final elections for party leadership bth of whom are fine choices. Allow me to present them:

A big shocker came when the well respected Vladimir Lenin III joined our party, taking with him a good portion of the Communist Party we are pleased to have him.

OOC: Leader/Running Mate

Drix Van Durev/Eazy E -

Current Supreme Councilor. Mr. Van Durev is a soft spoken man who many regard as somewhat weak-spirited. He often seemed to be in the pocket of Mr. Borovski, which no one complained about except without Borovski's support his ratings in the party have dropped. He did however succeed in reducing spending on the military per capita however taxes have gone up substantially. According to polls would receive 34% of the vote if the elections were held today, compared with 22% for Andrei Reagan(blue party leader).

Vladimir Lenin III/Dimitri Borovski -

The furthest left of the people in the running. While Lenin himself sees the military as a waste of money that could be invested in Social programs he does recognize it's use in defending the state and people from jealous would-be invaders. Mr. Lenin is the great-grandson of Vladimir Lenin, the man who lead the USSR in her begining years. Will base his campagn on uniting the left and increasing worker's freedoms. Additionally he already has recieved support from Vladimir Borovski, the first Supreme Counciler and generally recognized Elder Statesman of Haaregradia. Plans to reduce taxes by cutting out the buearocracy of the current government. Already has put together a "superstar" cabinet that he plans form if elected Supreme Counciler. According to polls would recieve 49% of the vote, if elections were held today.

Meh, Soviets...

I got an idea, allow a Democratic Party to run, one that will reform your backward wayward failed idealism into a good old Capitalistic Democracy!

OOC: Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn't the election, just the leadership convention for one of the parties. I'm doing a detailed election, as this is a critical moment in Haaregradian politics.

IC:

The Soviets are just worker's councils, here, unlike the USSR, they are free to elect members of any party.

Lastly Haaregradia is both economically powerful and politically free(please view our profile). We allow capitalism, but regulate it too keep it from crushing the people.

We are and have been since our founding a Social Democracy, with little to do with Stalinism or Maoism.

UN Category: Left-wing Utopia
Economy: Frightening
Its compassionate, intelligent population of 877 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
the nation's first space rocket -- sponsored by Pepsi and shaped like an enormous soda bottle -- is being developed

Hmmm, so, you are technically not Socialist, you overly regulate buisness people, but your space program is sponsored by one of the largest most corrupted buisnesses in the world... Congratz, you are the perfect example of Hipocracy!

OOC: Some parts of the game provided description we have no control over. Watch how I RP and it will become obvious that the nation is currently a Social Democracy. And if you have yet to get the issue it mentions selling contracts to the Arms Manufacturing industry to support the space program, hence why I chose it.

You still wanted Private Industry to fund your Space Program, so you still rely on private industry for many things in your country, thus the Government is just as 'corrupted' by commerce as any capitalist nation.

Then why is your name Soviet Haaregrad?

Two reasons:
1)the nation's concept has somewhat changed since founding.
2)each state of Haaregradia has an elected Soviet, just like the USSR had, but you know... free
