They live in legend and in the dark places of the night; their very existance is shadowed in doubt, disbelief and perhaps more than a little fear. They are the men with no faces, the men with no identity, the embodyment of the "men in dark suits" of popular urban legend.

Chimaea's government has denied their existance over and over; its military has pointed out the sheer impractical impossibility of their existance... yet the legend of the "Operators", dark hunters and assassins unleashed by the highest levels of government to bring 'justice' and sometimes revenge into the most chaotic situations.

The evidence is scant. A rumour here, a doubtfully "official" leak there, a supposed sighting somewhere else... in every major war Chimaea has partaken in from Amerigo to Hrstrovokia, the legends have grown and festered. However much official sources deny it, the mysterious Operators have weaved their own mythos about them.

Iesus Christi: When HARU lost the daughter of its leader to a supposed terrorist cell in Iesus Christi, it is rumoured that Chimaea offered its help in the form of an operator. Infiltrated through the diplomatic corp, this Operator allegedly killed an Iesus Christi Brownshirt soldier in one of their many ethnic clensing operations, and is also rumoured to have tortured a woman connected to the terrorist cell. We don't know what exactly happened in Iesus Christi and it's doubtful we ever will. But the rumours persist.

Hrstrovokia: When the Federation of Hrstrovokia began breaking up through seperatist movements, Chimaea was called in to help. In a highly criticised move, Chimaea sent in a massive force of Marines, special forces and the Airborne to retake the independant states. Though this was successfully accomplished through these military forces, several key separatist leaders mysteriously dissappeared whilst under maximum security by the Hrstrovokian government. One was found brutally tortured and barely alive, dying before he could make a statement; this was put down to remenant separatists.

However, shortly afterwards, Chimaea traced a network of supply from the Hrstrovokian separatists to various international sources; hundreds of arrests were made. Chimaea never divulged publically how the information had been gained, as all the leaders dissappeared before questioning could commence.

Clock Hill: Under the Governership of Lord Bryce, Chimaea successfully led a campaign against Clock Hill and its allies in the infamous Chimaean-Clock Hill war, which resulted in a nuclear catastrophe.

What happened to the Clock Hill leadership though? The Cabinet of the former regime vanished suddenly, never to be seen again. The Clock Hill leadership was tried in absentia by a UN court, which also demanded that they be traced and apprehended. Chimaea, the then major power in Clock Hill, made no such attempt to trace and bring to justice the supposed fugitives that had been responsible for the deaths of Chimaean citizens.

Perhaps in an unconnected find, a large grave was found by a farmer in Clock Hill containing the dissolved skeletal remains of around twenty-six people. The remains of several Presidential seals were found nearby and destroyed clothing that could have been uniforms of the former regime. The Chimaean military denied knowledge of what had happened as did all the other parties concerned; the remains were eventually reburied in an undisclosed location.

This is, of course, mostly surmise. No-one truly knows if these Operators really exist, or if these and other events are mostly coincidence. Anyone who would know about their existance is either tight-lipped on the subject or laughs it off as myth.

But so long as there are mysterious contradictions and coincidences, this legend will remain, at least in the back of the mind, alluringly true.
