No I wasn't. Read the rules. You are allowed to create 4 nations total. If other nations give puppets to you, however, that's a different matter.

I'd like to nominate Lord Gamer of 61F733 14ND, actually everyone there, for the biggest god modder. They speak 1337 and "n00kx0r" my base with a lot of nukes... then nuke themselves for some reason.

Eeeek, I was thinking of creating a 4th puppet too! (Technically, this is a puppet... You'll never know who my main nation is! Muwahahahah!) Glad I know I can't now... :? How would more then 3 puppets be punished?

There used to be more about only having 4 nations, but it's not there anymore. However, if you look in the UN section of the rules, it says "Can All 4 Of My Nations Join The UN?" meaning that you can have a maximum of 4.

Personally I have 7...some created by me...some given to me.

You can have as many nations as you like, as long as only one of them is a UN member.

The Armed Republic of Sino would like to nominate its own leader, General Liu for the best character award.


Gen. Liu is a 33-year-old male, who 5 years ago established an Armed Republic of Sino during the years of hellish chaos that brought about this world of NationStates.

Liu gained experience in countless armies, under countless superiors. Finally, he managed to command his own forces and gathered enough land with enough Chinese people in it to proclaim the Armed Republic of Sino's existence.

7 years of his life prior to being the leader of Sino was spent at war with many foes, over many theatres. He started his military career as an army Lieutenenant but currently holds the rank of General and Supreme Commander of the Armed Republic of Sino Combined Forces. He had served many roles, orginally he was just an armoury officer, but volunteered to lead a dangerous attack, durign which he picked up a sniper rifle from a dead comrade and became a sniper eversince. He is still a very capable sniper. He is an example of a fast learner.

Roles in the armies he had worked for included sniper, MBT gunner, helicopter MG gunner, translator, interrogator, executioner, armoury officer, and comedian (though a very serious one).

His missions had included, retrieving a stolen nuclear TEL (which he gained a promotion from Lt. to Capt.), taking out enemy leaders (got him the rank of Major), rescuing a downed pilot behind enemy lines (promoted to Lt. Col.), commanding victorious battles (eventually led to hsi current position today), aiding freedom fighters behind enemy lines and sabotage. He had received quite a lot of action for someone of his rank. 5 years ago, his armour, troops and aircraft stormed and occupied what is now the city of Junjing, Sino and proclaimed the founding of our nation.

Under the General's leadership, Sino has grown, expanded, and achieved great advances socially, economically and militarily. We are now moving at full speed to achieve our prime foreign policy of uniting all Chinese speaking peoples and repatriating the Motherland.

Back on the subject, Gen. Liu is a quite man, but a fierry speaker when it comes speeches. He is unmarried. He is an ultra-nationalist. He often toils in the office of his undisclosed underground government bunker. He rarely uses his bedchambers as his workaholism see him falling asleep on the sofa in his office more often then on an actual bed. He is often seen in military uniform. He has a rather vulgar and black sense of homour for someone of his stature. Despite having dictatorial powers, Liu is a benevolent man who donates most of his annual income to public and scientific projects in his country.

Liu spends his spare time by visiting his scientists, troops, ships, bases; executing criminals, on military exercises with his forces; burning enemy effigies and rallying (at scales grander than Hitler's Nuremburg rallies); as well as practicing the art of sniping on the rifle range. He is a philatelist, a numismatist and also an arms collector.

That is all we can reveal about our charismatic and rather mysteriouis leader, we hope that he will win the NationStates Best Character Awards.

Just to clarify the "puppet number" issue:

1. You can have as many puppets as you want - some players claim to have had approximately 50-75 puppets at a time.
2. The only limitation is that only one nation can be in the UN at once.

The reason for the "...4 nations join the UN?" excerpt from the FAQ is (if memory serves, it was outlined by [violet] on a very old thread quite a while ago) that the original rule was that you could only have a maximum of 4 nations, but this rule was discarded long before NS became the big monster that it is now. The vestigal reference in the FAQ is simply because nobody's bothered to change it yet.
To whoever it was that recounted the story of trying to sign up a puppet nation and not being able to, that probably relates to a different problem. I'm not sure what it was, but it certainly wasn't a case of "you've got too many nations".

Yeah, it was that rule that I was talking about. I guess I haven't been looking at the rules recently though, because that one was still in effect back when I joined up. So... yeah, apparently it doesn't exist anymore.

Strangest Role-play – Hm… seeing as Sino can nominate himself for “Best Character”, I’m going to nominate my “James’s Dreams” thread which was linked to a load of dreams my leader had while bleeding on the floor unconscious in a conference about vampires… If I had to nominate someone else’s thread I would actually have to search through the ones I’ve been in… though Amanda The Great’s first thread was a little weird in places.

Biggest Godmoder – Too many… way too many, but I would choose one of the bigger nations that got away with it half the time… how about the Invasion Force… can I enter alliances?

Best character – Tempted to say Rave Shentavo, but James deGritz (my nations leader) has done a lot of character-to-character RP and is often commented on for his depth and I like that he’s still just a normal leader with no super powers.

I vote for Sino, General Liu.
