OOC: What happened to all the good RPers & RP's

19-10-2003, 05:09
What the hell happened to all the good RP's & RPers? In March, May, and June there was a good RP every day. Now all you see is "I 0WN U wIJH 5055298509285092385029 NUUUHHHHEEESSSS. Now with all the veterans leaving such as SC, and AMF it's decending into hell. Something else that pisses me off is when you start a good RP,AND GODMODDING NOOBS MESS IT UP. The standard for RP has changed from

December-May
As the wind howled from the mountains, thousands of small figures could be seen marching to the east. As they marched M-16 in hand, and fog rising from their lips you could tell that they were all nervous. The loud rumbling of the tanks behind them signaled that this was no ordinary march, IT WAS A INVASION FORCE.
(Alright that was the standard RP back then, but it was longer)

May-July
As the winds howled from the mountains, thousands of soldiers and tanks were moving toward @@NATION@@. As they were marching into the night, the 500,000 soldiers knew that in 2 days they would be fighting for their lives.
(Again its not that bad, but it was usually longer)

July-Mid-August
I send 500,000 soldiers through the mountains to attack you  .
(Bad RPing, but I've seen worse)

August-October
  I L@UHCH 632146236723631512632571351 NUUUUUUUUUUUKES U B!@w UP
(Alright this is what I'm seeing today)

This is the pattern from the way I see it

Good RPs make people happy
People tell each other about the site
NOOBS come in and piss of the veterans
Bad RP's piss the veterans off
Veterans Leave
NOOBS straighten out & become veterans
Cycle repeats

What do you think? Am I right
(I'm not saying that all NOOB's are bad RPers. So don't get pissed off at me)

RPing here was fun, although it had it's moments here I got so pissed I wanted to slam my computer.

An RP is a creation, something that is apart of you. It's a collection of your life experiences, your wisdom, and your effort. When someone dashes an RP, it hurts you personally. Although RP is great, it's only a temporary solution to the problems that infest NS, and until those problems are taken care of, don't expect to see me wasting my time here. Yes, I said wasting my time, because that's how I feel. I've put 7 months of my life into NS, and only recently when I started doing in depth RP was I scolded by the NS community (for my vulgar threads).

To the new nations that want to become good RPers:

Don't believe the hype. Don't believe what any of the older nations say about how they are superior, because they are not better than you. They may have joined back in December or January, but that does not make them God. Don't let them make you feel like you aren't shit because they're older, because that's not true. Even the smallest nation can alter the course of NS, some may say that I was once that nation.

To the elitist nations on NS:

You are the main problem on NS, not the noobs. Noobs come and go, but it's the snooty elitist nations that fuck up the game for others. You go around thinking that because it says December or February on the left side of the screen that you are something special, because you are not. You are no better a person than I, or anybody else on NS. Stop thinking that you can dictate all, because you can't. You are not the Gods of NS, because one day, you'll get yours (be it IC or OOC).

With that, I now wait for Pantera to change my password, marking my end on NS. Thanks everyone for the good times, and I'll see some of you on NS2. Again, until some of these issues are addressed by the NS community (because this is everybody's game, not just the "veterans"), don't expect to see me around.

Ditto.

The "elitism" here makes me sick. I still see Dec/Jan/Feb and March/April nations referring June, July, and August nations as "n00bs". Even worse, some June, July, and even August nations also got on calling August, September, and October nations "n00bs".

I've been called "n00b" myself, I've been bitched at by older nations saying how we treat them like crap, and stuff. Yes, it did took place just this month, suprisingly. Reason? I'm a June nation with a puny 700 million population.

Why can't the diversity stop? We are all the same, except the registeration date and population. This is truly why a LOT of October nations are now leaving because they are treated like crap. I'm tired of everyone yelling at a October nation with "moron!!111" or "dumbass!!11", etc. when they make a mistake. We were newbies too, remember.

Here's a simple answer: trust yourself.

It is your ability to RP, or not to RP. You will know yourself when you can RP good.
19-10-2003, 05:37
That's true. The assumption in NS is that if the month is before March, it is automatically superior.

http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=82633 Read the very top paragraph. I just put that on there. I hadn't checked this whole forum and website for about 5 months. That's how long I was gone. Then I came back yesterday just to check up, because I felt like it, and I saw that you were leaving due to the elitists. That really stirred me. If you of all people are fed up with this... there must seriously be something wrong. Something which I intend to put effort into correcting.

And that's not right, because it's not the "newbs" (new nations, not NoobZ) that are the problem. I'm not going to name names, and I'm not just saying this because of the attacks by EOTED and company. But seriously, some of you "veteran" nations make me want to vomit. Your nose is stuck so far up your own ass because you've been here for awhile, and that's got to stop.

I didn't say I was leaving because of any one reason, for there are many that are contributing, but the elitism has GOT to stop. I understand that alot of the older nations are friends, but stop treating the younger ones like shit, because you never know if you may be chasing off the next lengendary RPer.

Well, I don't all n00b's are bad, but, jeez, you see Freemantia... and now we have Freemantia part seven.

Realistically, I think some of the damage is done by n00b's who don't read the stickies, but could some of it be our own doing?

I mean... every time a n00b posts and we know he hasn't read the stickies, we wail on him. No wonder some of them never return... I mean if the lamer posts obnoxiously unrealistic posts repeatedly, then, either he's... really dumb... or... really dumb and wants to piss us off.

So, maybe if we we more amicable to a n00b who didn't read the posts they wouldn't feel so vindictive as to spam the boards to piss us all off.

Just my thoughts.

Ahem... I am very sorry to have to say this, but I am left with very options:

"You are an incredible nation, you have RPed very well, and although I believe that I did not take part in any of your RPs (perhaps one... I'm not sure,) I certainly know from reading RPers you created/go involved in that you are a great nation, and deserves the best praise possible.

However... you have been whining for a day now... yes, whining, about how you "get treated or feel like shit from older nations" because you signed up after they did. Please stop that! I doubt it goes on, and if it does then TOUGH! Deal with it! I know that you will be leaving soon (you announced your departure yesterday and it will likely happen when your password is changed,) but please, until that time, either reconsider your decision or suggest concrete changes... do not continue the whining drivel of "I got treated like crap... why oh WHY?"

At any rate, I still believe that you are a brilliant RPer, so please do not tarnish your reputation in the closing day or so of your membership in NS, and come back soon (or don't leave in the first place!)

Size or what date you joined dosen't mean jack diddly shit. Alot of people say this, but very few take it to heart and follow it.

Actually, it was 6,000 warheads. There were 600 SLBM's and each had 10 MIRV's. Which is WELL within the realms of reality.

-Esamopia!

I am not whining, I'm addressing points that nobody else has the guts to address. It may sounnd like whining when I speak out on what's happening in NS because up till now I haven't said anything. I've kept my mouth shut for too long about the BS that goes on around here. Seriously, shit is going to have to change around here, and i think everybody aggrees on that.

Don't say I'm whining because I'm speaking out.

Well IMO, that's truly what I am seeign right now: most May/June/July/August nations are treated like subhumans here.

Like I said... just because they don't read the stickies up top doesn't mean they're an ignorant n00b. And, you have to feel for some of them... it's no wonder some stupidity is here.

Whenever a n00bish post is made, we absolutely rant on the fellow. Maybe if we took some time in thinking that they're as human as ourselves, and that if we don't rant on them they may turn out to be excellent RP'ers.

And, if we rant some new guys may get the want to pull a Freemantia... or a nation whose sole purpose is to spam... to annoy. To spam to the point of annoyance where we want to smack the guy... or leave NationStates.

I'm just saying that we may not be the "victims" we percieve ourselves to be... seeing as how we treat some n00bs as Omz222 said, as subhuman.

Silly question, I suppose ... but why do you care what some of these people think? It's easy enough to blow off stupid comments. You don't have to play with them to have fun. You don't have to do anything you don't want to here. Sure, it can be annoying as hell for someone to take the 'oh yeah? well then we'll just do this anyways' if you ignore them ... but so what? Let them act like idiots. As far as that goes, I see plenty of that going on in all 'age groups' of NS.

I don't plan on letting it spoil what fun I'm able to get from it. Quite frankly, I'm not doing this to please anyone but myself, selfish as that might sound. If folks like my style of play - great. If they don't - I couldn't care less. Sure I can be opinionated and such - look back. I've been that way from day one, not caring how 'old' my nation was, nor suffering from some percieved 'them vs us' mentality. Hell folks, I don't even qualify for your March cutoff - I'm mid May. Think that's ever stopped me from working my nation as I wanted?

It's all fine and well to go around pointing the fingers, and granted, in a lot of cases, its warranted. But honestly - sitting around wallowing in self pity and being angry about it, and calling names, and carrying on like this doesn't do a damn thing for the effort of making this a better place to play. Like I said - there's all kinds in all 'age' groups. Only difference with the youngest ones is an unfamiliarity with the generally accepted system of developing things over time through rp. Anyone who's been around for a while doesn't have that excuse - but you see poor rp and bad behaviour across the board - not just from young nations, and not just from the supposed 'Kings and Queens' of the boards.

Time to move on. Get over it, and get back to enjoying things where you can. I maintain - you get out of it what you put into it. Don't let the bastards get you down. And yes, if it sounds like I'm rambling, I probably am. Chalk it up to severe lack of sleep - beg pardon on that account, hope at least some of this was understandable.

What's sad is that while people could be starting non-war...or even war...RP's with their NS friends and doing something fun and at the same time productive, they decide to fill the IC NationStates forum with bitching and complaining. Go whine and cry about how current roleplaying sucks in the General forum...or leave. Otherwise...if you think you're a veteran...it's high time you start acting like one. Make your own RP...or kindly offer to assist another. 100% of the time, newbs and/or bad RPers improve by example...not by being ignored and yelled at. Improve the boards...don't drag them further down. This is for everyone...not just the author of this thread either.

There is such a thing as self-fulfilling prophesy. If enough people proclaim how the older nations have some sort of elitism and are biased against a hiearachical pattern of younger ones, such as Omz described, well eventually it might become true even if it isnt.

And even if it is true, who the hell cares? (I'd go more on about that but I think Nathi covered it succinctly.)

I've never seen anyone I considered a good RPer go "oh, you're just a June nation, so I'm better" to anyone seriously. ICly yes, however you have to remember that ICly, any nation that is significantly bigger and more powerful (and most of the time, size does matter, and in NS, even more so due to the nature of the game. bigger population, bigger tax base, more resources, etc.) is going to have the luxury of being a complete jerk to smaller nations. Turn on the news sometime, you'll see.

Of course you perceive elitism, I perceive it too... from everyone. Human nature is to settle into groups, cliques, clans, gangs, alliances, and then start hating the other guys. Thats how people are socially, you can't prevent the fact that people who have been playing the game for almost a year have some things in common, and people who have been playing less have some things in common too, and that people who have things in common and know each other longer tend to be friendly with one another.

But the last thing we need is more balkanization with everyone pointing fingers at everyone else. Some people are dicks, some people aren't, now lets get back to this thing known as having fun.
