Kekkosmaa looks to the stars - this time with battleships

President Kekkonen announced today, that the Kekkish Scientists living in Moon and on the Kekkish Space Station that orbits the Earth have finally started their work to create the Kekkish Space Navy. The project has been given to the Kelior Corporation, a corporation that is very likely to have the most skilled engineers and the most advanced technology in Kekkosmaa.

"Our future is in space", said Mr. Kekkonen. "We have been idle too long. There is no longer room for all of our people in Kekkosmaa, and therefore we must expand. But we can not expand, if we can not be sure that we are safe. That is why the Kekkish Space Navy must be built. Money shall not be a problem. We will give our scientists and engineers as much funds as they need to create weapons, shields and engines more wonderful than any that have been seen. And we are willing to buy technology from other nations as well, and we hope that our friends and allies can assist us as well. The main thing is, that when we start to expand beyond the Sol System, our fleets will be ready to defend us."

OOC: Finally made my decision - going to build my fleet slowly :P I was planning the first pieces of the navy to be ready when I hit the magical oh oh and so on billion mark. 839 million already, shouldn't take too long.

First designs announced

Kekkosmaa's engineers have done a good job indeed. The first ships flew in the Earth's orbit today, only a year after the project was started. The first two ships were only a small fighter and a bomber, but the project leader, Väinö Rahakas, told us that the next ships will be seen in a couple of years.

"The Gull and the Skua flew today", he said. "The Hawk will follow soon. It will be our first 'bigger' ship, a patrol craft, and the Hawks will escort for our freighters flying from Earth to Mars. We are also designing new types of freighters that can carry a lot more cargo than our current ships."

The Gull is an interceptor that is very agile and also very manouverable. It's armament consists of two laser turrets located in the wings. It's designed as a ship that can make quick strikes against enemy bombers and get out, fast. It doesn't carry any missiles.

The Skua is a bomber. It isn't nearly as fast or manouverable as the Gull, but it carries six missiles and a twin-laser turret, much more destructive, than those of the Gull. One hit is enough to destroy an enemy fighter or bomber, but it has also a slower rate of fire and less ammo.

New Engines bought

To speed up the process of building the larger ships, the engineers requested the government to contact the Holy Empire of Jimathon for their Jimathon Ministar engines. Jimathon Ministar and Jimathon Ministar 2 engines are very powerful engines that suit the larger Kekkish ships.

"The Holy Empire of Jimathon is willing to sell the blueprints for the Jimathon Ministar engines. They are, of course, going to cost a lot to us, but as the President said, money is not a problem. We expect the blueprints and the rights to produce Jimathon Ministars to be ours soon enough. Then our engineers no longer need to worry about the power sources for our capital ships."

The first "big" ship of Kekkosmaa

Shortly after the Gull and the Skua was made the Lynx. It is a fast, moderately armoured attack ship, armed with both missiles and laser turrets. It's main mission will be to escort the trade ships traveling between Mars, Earth and Moon, but in a battle it can also be used as a attack ship. A horde of Lynxes has enough firepower to take down a capital ship and get away. The Lynx is also well capable of defending itself against enemy fighter/bombers.

"Of course it's not really a capital ship", commented project leader Rahakas, "but hopefully it will show the way to the real big ones. But we've still got some technical questions to solve until we can start to build the really big, hyperspace capable ships. You know. Destroyers and such."

The main engineer also told, that they are developing a new type of weapon. It will be tested in a couple of years.

IF the President of Kekkosmaa is willing to take lopomatoians to space too.
The lopomato is willing to fund this operation with money and scientists.

Mass production of ships started, another shipyard to be built

Mass production of the Lynx-class ships has been started. The Ministry of Defence has decided, that a total of 50 Lynx-class patrol ships will be built in the next 5-10 years. With each ship costing nearly billion dollars, the whole fleet of Lynxes is going to cost about 35 to 45 billion dollars.

"Once again, the price is not a problem. We have bought submarines for a total price of over 100 billion dollars, yet it did not damage our economy. And since we have halted the production of our Earth-based weaponry, even 45 billion dollars is not a bad price for these high-quality ships crafts", commented the speaker for the Kekkish government. "The government will continue to support this project in the future, with as much money as is needed."

The opposition has already criticized the government's support of the project, while areas such as social welfare have been neglected a bit.

Another large investment will be the construction of another Improvement-class shipyard. Sampo, first of the space stations, is not large enough to produce the whole Kekkish fleet. Sampo is capable of building 6-7 Lynx-class ships and 1 larger capital ship at a time, which will not be enough when the mass production of large warships starts. Lanuz Productions, the corporation that built the first shipyard, has already been contacted.

"It is nice to work with a project like this again", said Eric Lanuz, CEO of Lanuz Productions. "Only some small questions about the payment and the schedule remain. Since this new shipyard is supposed to be larger and more modern than Sampo, we can not use the same designs, and it is going to take a bit more time. But I am sure that we can do it in, say, 15 years."

The Falcon

The Falcon Space Superiority Fighter is a highly advanced fighter that was tested the first time today.

"There are still some things we have to think about", said Olli Sormi, who is in charge of the Falcon's development. "But it looks pretty good already. Until we design some kind of cloaking device, we can't really make it much better. It's simply outstanding, when it comes to dogfighting."

The Falcon is equipped with two laser turrets and normally four fast-moving missiles that are effective against other fighters or bombers. It can be equipped with two heavier missiles, suitable for attacking small capital ships, as well.

The Falcon performed well in it's first test. It was capable of reaching a rather good speed, but the engineers hope they can still make it a little more faster. The final version equipped with very advanced aiming systems, allowing it to score a good 80% killing ratio when pitted against few advanced fighters of other nations (at least in computer simulations).

Kekkosmaa signs the Martian Free Trade Agreement (MFTA)

The Government of Kekkosmaa has, after much debating, signed the Martian Free Trade Agreement. The agreement was signed by the authorized government official, Mr. Ahola, Governor of the Colony of the Kekko Pridelands.

"We are going to benefit a lot from MFTA", commented the speaker for the government. "And it will be especially helpful to the Pridelands. Importing goods necessary in developing the Colony, and building our fleets, will be much easier in the future, with no taxes or tariffs in the way. This is, certainly, a wise act. Most nations that have colonies in Mars, including our neighbour in Earth, Wazzu, have already signed the agreement."

The Falcon is ready

The final designs of the Falcon were completed a bit over a year after the first version of the Falcon flew. The main improvements were the slightly improved fusion reactors that allowed the fighter to reach even higher speed. The wings were made larger as well, making the fighter a more manouverable. Basically every aspect was improved a bit.

To the Stars

The next big project (alongside the larger capital ships that are being developed all the time, of course) of Kekkosmaa is the Traveler-Class. Traveler will be an explorer ship that's primary mission will be travel to the stars and back. It will be lightly armed (even if it counters other races, it's main "weapon" will be diplomacy) ship that can carry a lot of supplies and reach a speed many times that of a normal capital ship. To reach this speed, it will be boosted by a Jimathon Ministar 2 engine. Armed with only a couple of guns, basically all the power created by the engine will be used to reach a speed unreachable by most other ships. Their main missions will be to find worlds that can be colonized by Kekkosmaa.

The Kelior Corporation tests the new weapon

The Kelior Corporation tested it's newest design today. An asteroid approximately half a kilometer long, a couple of hundred meters long and maybe three hundred meters high was captured by the Kelior Corporation.

The weapon (named "the Kelior Cannon" by the corporation, surprisingly) simply concentrated a huge amoun of energy, and after about two minutes, shot one, long beam. With 50% charge it burned 30 meter deep hole to the asteroid. With maximum charge it was able to burn to the middle of the asteroid.

So, basically, it's a really powerful laser beam that can burn through metal with ease. But it is slow and takes time to charge, and, due to the amount of energy it requires, has a really slow rate of fire and a can't fire longer than a minute, two is the absolute maximum. But the Kelior Corporation's CEO believes, that it can be made even deadlier.

Warp technology bought from Knootoss

The Kelior Corporation announced today, that it has bought warp technology from Knootoss.

"It cost us only 650 million Menelmacari credits", said Eric Kelior, CEO of the Kelior Corporation, "and saved us a lot of time. We don't have to develop our own FTL system, and we can reach the stars much sooner. We are going to install these to the Travelers. I think it was a really wise investment."

For additional 200 million Menelmacari credits, Kekkosmaa also got an Oberth-Class research vessel. Even though it is old and used, the engineers see a possibility that they can learn something new from it.

Designs of the Traveler-Class are ready

After being designed for six years, the designs for the Traveler-Class have been completed. It is the first Kekkish space ship that is atmosphere capable (the reason is pretty obvious, it has to land on planets to explore them) and big enough to carry an explorer team of fifty men and food and other supplies for a journey of ten years.

The Traveler is powered with a Jimathon Ministar 2 engine, giving it a huge amount of power. The Traveler only has 4 heavy laser turrets, 8 medium-sized laser turrets and one Kelior Cannon, so almost all the energy is directed to the Warp Drive, allowing the ship to reach a huge speed of five lightyears per minute.

The approximate building time for a Traveler is two years, and the government intends to build two Travelers in a couple of years. Once they return from their journey, the colonization of space outside the Sol system will begin.

Guardian

It's finally here - the first real capital ship Kekkosmaa has. The Guardian-Class Corvette is a bit over hundred meters long, slow, heavily armoured ship designed to escort convoys, and be used as a defensive ship that is small and rather agile (when compared to larger capital ships), but can still be a lethal ship that doesn't cost too much.

Mass production of these ships shall start as soon as the new space station is ready.

First of the two Travelers is ready as well - year and a half after the designs were completed. The ship's crew was greatly celebrated when the ship left Sampo. The contact with the ship is expected to be lost soon, when the ship gets too far away.

OOC: So you bought the Vogels eh? We had some fun times with that ship back in the day. Don't be suprised if you get into trouble and a SDF battle group shows up to help.

OOC: Emh? :P You mean that Oberth? Emh. I don't think I'm ever going to refer to that again, anyways :P

OOC: Why not? It has a nice sensor package on it. For a good local explorer, you can beat an Oberth but it will cost you a lot to do it.

OOC: Ok, of course Kvenland was never destroyed, but deleted, so.. Carelicum came up with the idea that Kvenland was destroyed in a nuclear disaster :P

Kekkosmaa moves to New Kalevala

After Kvenland was destroyed by nuclear terrorism, Kekkosmaa, as well as Carelicum, decided to move to space, completely. Carelicum's scouts have founded a new planet named New Kalevala (Polaris V), and mr. Kekkonen,who had been planning a move to space for a long time, quickly followed mr. Karjalainen's example and started to organize the movement. The government has given it's support, and according to the gallup we Iltatieto has made, many citizens are interested as well.

"Earth is not safe anymore, and it is far, far too crowded. There are 700 million of us in this tiny piece of land that is Kekkosmaa! Three colony ships, Ilmarinen III is ready to leave the Earth in a week, carrying those who want to be the first ones to leave the Earth. Ilmarinen IV and V will follow later, after our citizens have said the final goodbye to this homeplanet of mankind.

And, as you all know, this is most likely going to be my last big achievement as the President - I am planning to resign as soon as we have moved", said Mr. Kekkonen.

Bye-bye, Earth!

Colony ship reaches Polaris V

First colony ship, Ilmarinen IV, has reached the Planet New Kalevala. This ship carried the first 200 million Kekkos that have chosen to leave the Earth (Kekkosmaa's Earth territory holds about 700 million people, of which about 30 million have chosen to stay). Among those 200 millions was the President, who wants to witness the building of the new home of the Kekkish people.

Most of those 200 million are engineers, architects and workers who will build the first cities and homes for the next wave of colonists. There are also a plenty of military to safeguard them against possible hostile animals and such, and many scientists too. So far all seems pretty quiet, but you can never know.

It is expected that in a couple of years there will be enough homes on the planet, that Ilmarinen V can be launched and the next 200 million people will arrive on the planet.

The Lanuz Productions has also completed the designs for the new space station, and the production will be started soon. The space station will be constructed in the Polaris V's orbit.

So far, Kekkish military presence in the Polaris system is pretty small - 50 Lynx-Class Patrol ships, 5 Guardian-Class Corvettes and about 500 fighter and bomber planes.

Our Ministry of Commerce is interested in building a hypergate connecting your star system and mine. Hypergates allow ships without FTL technology to access hyperspace, meaning that small private traders without access to hyper technology are not left out of opportunities.

Interesting idea - we will consider it as soon as the terraforming and colonizing of New Kalevala has been completed.

Glory of the Navy

The prototype of the largest ship in the Kekkish Navy has been completed - the Glory-Class Battleship. It is about ten times as big as the Guardian-Class - meaning that it is about 1.2 km long. It is armed with four heavy kelior cannons (the heaviest version of the kelior cannon, capable of burning through that asteroid in a matter of minutes), four big flak tubes (a tube that, literally, shoots junk towards enemy ships at a high speed - perfect for destroying sensors, cannons etc.), sixteen heavy missile launchers and 26 heavy laser turrets.

The Glory-Class is also capable of carryin several squadrons of fighters and bombers and a few Lynx-Class ships. It's both hyper and realspace speeds are pretty fast, though, since it lacks a bit in armour. The engineers are currently working to build a laser shield.

Each Glory takes three years to complete, and right now two can be built at time.
