Ministry of Defense
The Iraqi Ministry of Defense is planning several upgrades to its current military structure.
Tanks:
By the end of the year, the Iraqi Armed Forces is expected to be have no T-54/55's or Type-59/69's in active service. Most of these ancient tanks will be sent into reserves and for training purposes only. The 1,100 T-54/55 and Type-59/69's will be replaced with T-80UD and T-72M1 tanks at domestic factories.
It is also planned that that the T-55's and Type-69's will be upgraded with new ERA armor, new main gun, and a new fire control system. While they will not be in active service, they will be called up to be used in active service if a war starts.
Armored Vehicles:
The Iraqi Ministry of Defense has ordered the production of an extra three hundred BRDM-2 Recon Vehicles. The order is expected to be finished within a year.
The BMP-1 AIFV will also be phased out by the end of the year. An order for 800 BMP-3 with ERA armor has also gone out and is expected to be completed within a year in a half.
Another 500 MTLB APCs have also been ordered.
Surface to Surface Missiles:
A new missile, the "Al Hussein 2" has been ordered into production. The missile is expected to have a brand new guidance system and will carry a higher explosive charge. Missile range is said to be 800 kilometers.
Air Defense:
As the recent Al Anbar-Ell war showed that while the air defense was effective, it needed a massive upgrade.
An order for 2,000 SA-10 SAM launchers has been given to the State Factory for Air Defense Systems.
Al Anbar has also made technological advances into GPS jamming. Several hundred GPS jammers have been ordered built and placed around the countries sensitive areas in order to defend the country from bombing.
Budget:
Al Anbar's Military Budget has been increased roughly from 1,300,000,000 Dinars ($1,000,000,000 USD) to roughly 234,000,000,000 Dinars ($1.8 billion USD).
