Polo's Bolos. (Space RP)

Crimmond
15-10-2003, 02:00
Astronomer Rudy White boarded the science ship Marco Polo and headed for the bridge, talking with the first officer about their destination, a Neutron star that was producing a strange gravity well, much larger and varying than what the star should.

The ship departed lunar orbit and jumped to hyperspace, totally unprepared for what would await them.

Emerging from hyperspace nearly ten hours later, the shp approaches the system, buffeted by radiation.

"The shields are holding captain. Only a small amount is getting through. It won't kill us, but we may glow a bit when this is over." the science officer reported.

The captain nodded and turned to White. "You aren't paying me enough to stay here long, get your reading fast, I don't want a dead crew on my hands."

The astronmer huffs. "I know what I'm doing and I know that star can't produce these readings or that much radiation." He points to the screen in front of him, impossibly large numbers scrolling by on it.

The captain scowls. "Then what is?"

The astronomer shakes his head. "Something on the other side of the star. Something damn big."
15-10-2003, 02:09
Ahead there is a marker

it transmites this one messge

Marker/Boey:Warning, the star is unstabel right now, turn back or face leathal levels of Radiation.

the Transmission stops

The ship ignores the beacon and rounds the solar system so that they can get a clear reading of the space beyond. What is seen on the screen can only be described as a galactic horror.

A storm of immense magnitude, made up of stars, nebula and random clumpings of dust, all creating the intense radiation. There was something different though... there were two empty spots in it.

The astronomer and the science officer look at the screen in shock. The science officer reports. "Sensors confirm two large black holes. They appear to be rotaing around in a wild orbit. The storm is... by the Primes... 1.3 lightyears wide."

The captain stared at the screen. "In orbit of each other... Like bolos..." he mutters. He speaks louder. "What is the danger from those black holes gravity?"

The astronomer looked up. "We'd be dead long before that gravity well became a threat. 1/10 the radiation that would get past the shields would be more than 1000 leathel doses."

The captain nods. "I think we just found one of the scariest things in this galaxy..."

I find this fascinating. Why the hell'd you have to start this now? You couldn't have started this 1 week ago? Right now I'm involved in a major war, a kidnapping of my closest ally (and fellow GA member), and the attemtped conquering of his Empire. I'm swamped. Otherwise I'd love to get in on this.

Sir!
We have reports of a nuetron star emmiting abnormal amopunts of radiation.

"so?"

If we could find out why this is happening we could put it to good use.

"what do you mean by good use."

Something like weapons or better engines.

"do we have any ships near there"

2 frigates.

"send them immediatly"

I hadn't read The Galactic Whirlpool a week ago... It may be from 1980, but it's a damn good Trek novel. None of that TNG and beyond stuff.

OOC: what does that have to do with anythingOOC: How can my ship intereact with yours if yours don't arrive? :?
15-10-2003, 03:17
OOC: I was referring to the post before that. the one about the book

IC:
As the ships aproached their final destinination they closed their fold drives and dropped into normal space. Sheilds were already raised in anticipation of the radiation but it wasn't expected to be this heavy.

the first frigate pumped more power into their sheilds before any harm was done.
the second ship wasn't so lucky. They were to slow so they were bombarded with radiation. No one on the ship survived.

as the first frigate approached the star, they called their base to send robots to get the second ship back.

OOC: Oh. That post was for Klonor.

IC: The Comm officer looked up. "Sir! I just intercepted a signal... two ships arrive in sysem, one is dead in the water. Radiation. They appear to be using Brotherhood of Kane IFF codes... the radiation is interfereing though."

The captain nodded. "Try to open a channel." He looked back to the galactic maelstrom.

OOC: Now a shift to a more descript story of it...

IC: Imagine a black hole. A place so dense, light is trapped and physics fail. Now imagine another. Have them spin about eachother, but in a wilde orbit where they rush by each other and head off into space, then come hurtling back.

Imagine all the things picked up by it, entire solar systems, globular clusters, nebula... and it moves through the galaxy, spinning lazily for more than a billion years. A grinding whell of destruction. One hundred stars are caught in it, a thousand planets or more, three nebula... Uncountable trillions of other objects swirl around in it, on a slow death towards the holes, made slower by the distortion of time.

In just a little more than four trillion years, it will eat Alpha-Centauri.

The Marco Polo, however, isn't concerned with that having more pressing concerns. Dealing with the radiation from the storm.

we are being contacted by a ship caled the marco polo.

"Can you reach them?"

There is to much radiation. We can't contact them without some work.

The comm officer looks up. "I'm not sure if the signal is getting through... too much interference."

The science officer stares at a screen. "I think it's an escort type ship, a frigate or somethng like it in size. I wouldn't want to bet on our chances of survival in a fight."

The captain nods. "Well, if they are Brotherhood of Kane ships, they won't be hostile, so that isn't a problem."

The ships rocks as a small asteroid hits the shields. "Where did that come from?!"

"Sensors are scrambled with the radiation, getting a clear outline of the frigate took most of the processing power, we haven't finnished routing it back to the other sensor pallets yet." the response came from the engineer.
15-10-2003, 04:37
Commander, we have established a semi stable connection with the ship.

Captian Needat:What is it Leutenient?

Leutenient Gyai:we have picked up some shipsnear the system, they went right pass the Bouy without even bothering to leave a message.

Captian Needat:very well, Helm! take us deeper into the system, Communications, tell Captian Juao of the Stardestroyer Nemitz that we are moving closer, they are to stay on patrol, if Grand Admerial Mosc hears about this security breach he will be very angary.

The Crimmond ship continues scanning the black holes, now known around the ship as 'Polo's Bolos'.

"Sir, we need to pull out now, the shields are weakening. We managed to get a hardshell out of the system and requested a ship of at least light cruiser mass be sent to conti-"

A flash on the viewscreen showed two ships appear. They were marked as Imperial ships, but were no light cruisers...

The closest was the CSS Doomslayer, a Vlad Class heavy battlecruiser, that dwarfed the science ship, but even the Doomslayer was small compared to the ship twice it size behind it.

The CSS Lionsbane, a Lion Class dreadnaught, flagship of the Third Fleet was almost 3/4 the size of an Avenger class Star Destroyer. A message is sent to the small ship. "The War Council has deployed us to survey the situation. There are reports of possibly hostile ships in the area, you are to leave... now."

The ships move of towards the faint signals of other ships and open a channel as the science ship jumps to hyperspace.

"This is Admiral Saratov of the CSS Lionsbane. Our escort is the CSS Doomslayer. We are here on orders to ask why you have warships in such a dangerous system as this one." The broadcast was sent on a massive carrier wave to make sure it overpowered th eradiation interference.
15-10-2003, 06:32
Captian Needar:we are on the other side of this system, still in our terriory, we where on partol on the edge of the system when our Bouy here stoped transmitting, we hypered in to check the Bouy when we found these Kane Dudes in our territory, now stay on your side of the neutral zone.

"We have no record of you controling this system in the backwaters of OUR Empire, besides... we have no treaties with you outling a neutral zone." The ships continue thier approach. "I would not recommend attacking the Brotherhood ships. We would be forced to open fire on you."

OOC: This RP is taking place deep in my nations space. They are just getting around to charting the backwater protions.

The Admiral laughed. "You think I'm going to risk the radiation in this system by getting i a shuttle and flying over?" He grows serious. "The Empire of Crimmond has controlled this entire sector and the three ajoining sectors for the past 2500 years. I am sending the records from the Main Processing Core in the Capital to you."

The records sent, while slightly garbled by the radiation, clearly state that the Crimmond warship CSS Valdius, one of the most famous ships in the fleet and recently lost, entered the system before the radiation from the storm affected the system and set out markers that are still transmitting, albeit overpowered by interference, that the system is controlled by the Dominon of Crimmond, as it was known as then.

"You will pull out of our territory now, yes?" The Admiral says.
Crimmond
15-10-2003, 06:52

Kioksan Captain: In need of Help, we are not receiving you, we ask that you immediately vacate this area, we may explode in a couple of seconds

LEAVE this sector at once, we thank you for your hospitality

seconds later, the Kioksans port side haul disintegrates, a suction into space and a quiet doom for 157 tourists and 35 crew!

Needat turns off the Comm terminal for a second

Captian Needat:Have they found the probe that was collecting information on their Territories?

LT.harrison:No sir, it's still where we put it.

captian Needat:then pull it in and start the download.

he switches back

Captian Needat:sorry about that, i had a urgent call from my Supperior Grand Admerial Mosc, we are ordered to pull out in 2 hours, by then we will be out of your hair, until we meet again.

the main fleet pulls out and concealed by the radiation they use their Tractor Beam to pull the Prob in then they start to decode the Information
15-10-2003, 06:58

15-10-2003, 06:59
The Kiosk Ministry of Information has released findings that the tourist ship that blew up in the Crimmond sector was caused by a failure of the ships nav to seeks a safe passage through crimmond space, therefore the captain of the vessel takes full responsibility for the disaster.

He cuts the transmission. "Get me the Bloodmoon, I want the 1st and 2nd strike fleets here now."

The ship make a tightbeam signal away from the Trasan ships and contact the fleets, who jump to hyperspace as they were instructed to do.
15-10-2003, 07:02
just then the Stardestroyer Hypers out with the Probe intact in it's hangerbay

Captian Needat:Have we got the Information decoded yet?

Sargent Lear:No sir, this can only be decoded in the TSD HQ on the homeworld
Crimmond
15-10-2003, 07:07
The Admiral blinks. "Cancel that order! Send the fleets back." The signal is sent and the fleets turn back.

The Lionsbane and Doomslayer move a short distance from the BoK ships and hold position.

The Admiral heads into his office and starts on the reports, cursing under his breath. The Admiral had never done as much paperwork since the academy. Being a Captain again suddenly looked a whole lot better.

A Blademasterian probe, lying inactive for nearly 20 years, suddenyl began to transmit to Drayus again. It's mesage was simple:
"gravimetric anomaly detected, attempting to change course. course change failed, caught in vortex, suspect black hole, analysis identifies twin black holes, recommend rescue of probe, and further study"
But of course, a Probe would always recommend whatever was in its best safety, especially this one, 67392 had a known history of malfunctions with its AI, which had led to the 20 yuear deactivation (presumably self-inducd. but the twin black holes sparked Drayus' curiosity (if he reallty even has any), and so he dispatched an older heavily defended freighter, converted for scientific use to the area.
