The Modernization of Istar (Possible RP)

The Holy Empire of Istar was changing.

Within the first decade of the re-opening of the borders of the Holy Empire of Istar and the first communications with nations beyond the continent of Ansalon the nation had changed. It used to be that communications even on the best of time took weeks to reach from one end of the nation to the other, now thanks to the telephone and the internet it only took a click of a button. With improved communications the Kingpriest was able to make desisions faster and have his orders carried out more easily then ever before.

Military wise the Empire had done a 360 when it came to just about everything. A decade ago the most powerful military force in the Holy Empire was the Order of the Divine Hammer, an Order of Knights loyal only to the Holy Church and the very symbol of Istarian power. Now their role was ceremonial as the Scatas had been retrained with the new automatic weapons that were built in the nations first factories, though they still used swords they also were armed (and trained in the use of) new weapons based off of designs taken from the outside world. The Knighthood rejected such weapons because they believed guns to be honorless weapons and because of their unwillingness to change were being pushed aside.

Cultural wise the Holy Empire remained a diverse land of many peoples all united under the banner of the city of Istar. However the ability to learn of the various cultures both within the Empire and beyond brought about great change as Istarian children began wearing forigen designer labels and ate fast food from the new Burger Kings and Taco Bells being set up all across the Empire.

These changes (and more) began to create a rift in the Empire as Isolationists and Forward-Thinkers (as the two groups were unoffically called) began to slowly break the Empire in two factions, unless something was done the Church would be unable to keep the nation from falling into Civil War.
