For a long time now, I have studied the sides of NationStates, from the Dominion, to SATO to the UNAOTO to the UAAOT, to the NCA.
Here I will post my findings, I have worked for the truth and tried to distance myself from my personal veiws, in fact, what I have found is some what strange and againt my veiws.
The Dominion,
When I first joined the Dominion, then the GDODAD, I thought that they would be rough and mean people OOC. I found something quite strange. OOC the people of the Dominion are nice, polite, and very rarily ever flame. I had a blast with them, we talked about Computer Games and the like. It was a fun alliance.
SATO
Now I have not been able to see what goes on between SATO members, but this is what I found after applying. They tend to be suspicious, and almost never forget, they requir great pacience to work with, but it seems that once you get to know them they are great friends. A main pluss is that they share a comeradery much like what I found in the Dominion
UAAOT
Ahh, the UAAOT, they are nice people, caring, and not too dissimilar from the members of the Dominion. They were nice, and we talked, it was a good time had by all. While they did not do much IC, OOC they were great to hang out with.
UNAOTO
The UNAOTO was like the UAAOT, exept we did less OOC and more chat IC. Again, a great group to hang out with.
NCA
A mixed bag, some godmodders and people who need temper controll, but alot of OOC nice people, people who you would want to hang out with. It does depend on your political belives, just don't say you are a liberal comunist.
From Celack: NATO
As a founding member I might be a bit biased but there is a general sense of comraderie in it. we always are planning good rp's and always share technology. Several times we OOC like each other but IC are trying to kill each other(ruhr civil war)

I have no clue, have not applied yet. They seem in NS to be nice people, I do not know with what hostility they will treat a former Dominion member. They are intollerant of mistakes, and some look down upon newbies.
CACE:
The CACE, well, I am still looking at their board and their life in general. They appear to be nice people, and rarly are they suspicious of outsiders. A nice group to hang out with.
Findings, Surprisingly, the alliances are very simmilar. They all share goals of the protection of their members and the like. Some tend to be more OOC and some more IC. Surprisingly, I cannot find a reason why SATO and the Dominion were so against each other. It is strange, the more I see of them, the more they are the same.
I will add more alliances later as I find/get more info on them.
This is not a flame, this a guide, I have tried to be unbiased as I write this, okay, so I did swear at SATO on their board, but that was in responce to several, statements.
I am also going to put their charters up here incase you want to see them.
