New Defense Policy To Take Place
ARCTIQUE CITY-President Jake McDermont has announced a new defense policy which will take effect immediately. Below is a statement issued by his Administration a few hours ago:

Due to the increasing instability in the world and universe, Isla de Penguinata will officially change its defense policies. As of October 13, 2003, the following shall take place:

An Island Wall (to be named Padmur) shall be constructed immediately. It shall consist of titanium, steel, and concrete. The construction and weapons of the wall shall remain top secret. The wall shall be state of the art, with sensors and digital cameras installed so soldiers can see to the other side without have to peer up. All they will have to do is look at a small flatscreen monitor to determine what and who is in front of them.
The wall shall not be one layer. There shall be three layers of fortifications, with only one entrance per 30 km. The soldiers will control the weapons in the wall by means of computer, while never having to move from behind the wall. Over 50,000 SAM sites will be placed strategically along Padmur.
(50,000 SAMs x 4=200,000 AA missiles)

The capital shall be completely fortified. There shall be a titanium wall built around it, with 5 layers of fortifications. 100,000 SAM sites (400,000 AA missiles) shall surround Arctique City. A P-Unit (Urban fighting unit consisting of 800,000 soldiers) shall occupy the city, protecting it from the inside and out. New security shall be placed at every airport and public building. Identification will be needed for any person living within the Arctique Wall around the city.
A military base has been constructed in the city to hold all of the burdens of command and control of the entire nation's defense. It is capable of holding and housing 2 million soldiers at one time.

As for coastal defense, a massive navy is being built. It will protect every kilometer of ocean as far as 10 miles off the coast of Isla de Penguinata. The stats of this new navy will be presented soon.

Finally, we have secretly built dozens of missile silos, and we currently have 250 50-megaton nuclear missiles, as well as 100 others that are filled chemical agents.

The goal of this new defense policy is to make Isla de Penguinata a nation to be reckoned with. Over one-half of our military budget is devoted to defense now. In conclusion, this new doctrine shall begin to take effect as of tomorrow.

(OOC: I dunno. Wouldn't a wall be rather ineffective especially when you can just knock it down with about 1 tomahawk? Well, if it's state of the art, maybe more, but in any case walls aren't the defensive measure they used to be, IMO.)

That's exactly why I have SAM sites.

The Administration is also announcing its plan to place over 50,000 Patriot missile sites just behind the wall.

Naval Stats are coming up. :)

Oh! How could I forget! Diminix was extremely helpful in designing our new defense system, and we owe it to them for such brilliant ideas.

Thank you, Diminix! :P

Isn't 50,000 SAM sites a bit... Overkill?

We'd suggest IdP to spend teh extra money to improve the technologies of the military, instead of wasting it on 49,000 SAM sites that aren't even needed.

200 Battleships!!!!!!! I don't even think your economy can build that many, much less afford the upkeep. Unless that's a typo and you meant 20, which would still leave them vulnerable with so few escorts...and 350 missile cruisers is really pushing it....

Well, if there were 200,000 missiles launched from the 50,000 SAM sites, then that's a damn good payoff. :)

We're preparing ourselves for the inevitable. Eventually, some nation will want to attack us, and we are ensuring that we are defended to the best of our abilities. Thank you for the advice, however.

Actually, I'm planning an invasion, and this is to protect myself in the case of a retalitory attack. But you don't know this ICly. :D

OOC: Hmm, just saw the 200 battleships, pointed otu by Talkos.

Battleships are very expensive to maintain. Personally I only have 6 battleships, plus 4 dreadnoughts. And 36 cruisers.

Even with that many, I have to push back my army and air force.

Points to 1.7 trillion dollar military budget. :P

You're right, it might be a little unrealistic. But so are a bunch of elves running around with shields and lances.

OOC: Still, a battleship normally costs about 180 million dollars a year to maintain.

200 = $36 billion per year
Or... $360 billion in 10 years.

Ok ok ok. You're gonna drive me nuts with real-word stats and how I should do this and that.

Fine. Battleships are being cut down to 15. Everything else STAYS. :x
