Weapons development from PNL has completed the new weapons system that is installed on Epirus I.

"The weapon, hereby called PBL (plasma bolt launcher) was a huge success and exceeded the expectations that we had anticipated. It is far more powerful than we realized. It clearly is the best offensive weapon we have ever tested." states the founder of the program.

"An old freighter with limited armor was used as a target. A glow of light filled the launch tube, then suddenly emerged a flash of energy that bolted outward impacting on the freighter resulting in complete and total destruction of the craft, and kept going right through. Nothing exists of the freighter but small particles of debrit." announced a reporter for the Phyrric Naval War College. "It was fascinating, I have never seen anything like it before. We thought it was only going to damage or cripple the craft, but this destruction was outstanding! (clutches fist and motions arm upward), for the lack of a better word."

"The energy used is a nuclear fusion program that was developed at PNL that emits a direct fire bolt that travels at the speed of light from the highly charged atoms still radiating from the uranium cores that have been refined. When fused through a 'special' crystal, it hyperactivates the energy forming a type Plasma Energy, the crystal is lost in the process and appears to work only on natural grown 'special' crystals and inoperative when a lab crystal is grown. We got this idea while observing solar flares from the sun."

"There is one drawback to this weapons system." announces a scientist, "Due to the size and capacity of energy released, it can only be used on naval craft that are equipped with internal stabilizers. The shock of the weapon firing would very possibly destroy a craft that is not equipped with such a stabilizer. In laymens terms, only immobile platforms can be equipped with such a device, such as Epirus I."

Each of the 9 pods of Epirus I will be equipped with 2 mounts firing at an 80 degree arc and 8 360 degree mounts on the center core.

I could ignore it, I should ignore it, except that it is like a disease. It'll catch. More people will do it.

If you wan't a big plasma gun then say "I have made a big plasma gun." Don't bother trying to come up with some bs as to how it works...it just makes the scientifically educated here cringe.

OOC: Actually, I have absolutely no problem with him having a big plasma gun. The problem is that he tried to give credit to the idea by describing the physics behind it...but there wasn't any real physics! Nor was there any real RPing. It was just some bloke saying how good it was.

I am sure he can do better RP then putting pseudo-science in quotes.

Again, if he wants a big plasma gun, thats OK. If he wants to RP it, thats great. But what he (and everyone) should absolutely avoid is technobabble.

Phyrric: Either research the actual physics, or just say you have it...please don't spread science illiteracy.

If you have nothing decent to say, please leave my thread, I am not going to get into anything with you. If you were truely a member of the scientific community, then you would know that the word "impossible" is not a scientific concept. What appears BS today might very well be reality tomorrow, your studies should have taught you this. Good-bye.

OOC:
Wazzu, the science is a bit shaky (alright really shaky)...but then it doesn't violate first princples of themo-dynamics or mass and energy balances

and in terms of game dynamics his concepts of needing
"natural crystals/one fire cycle"
"Land based use only"

seem to be fairly good princples to use. As for the "uranium core fire stuff with fusion?? that doesn't fit well at all.

But some of the things get mutliated from bad reporting in science reports...like the 'plasma' mislabel on thoese or are you saing the "plasma screen T.V. I own can contains highly hot gases???

No, it is a misnomer really in technical terms...I'm perfectly fine with it. It also gives other players the ability to design counter systems to it...another part of game play around here...

OOC: As long as your spouting "nothing decent" in your thread, I don't have a problem doing the same.

Am I a member of the scientific community? Not yet. I'm getting there. I certainly have more education there then you.

Before you blather on about impossibilities, I suggest you study up a little on what exactly science is and what it has shown about the world around us. Star Trek, while often fun, simply is not a good substitute.

Again, if you want a big plasma gun, great. But don't try to credit it with bad attempts at a scientific explination. That only discredits it. If you want to be taken seriously, either do the research, or simply say you have it.

Example: If I said I had a race car, would you believe me? Maybe.

If I said I had a race car that ran on milk and used oak bark for oil, would you believe me? Probably not.

None of us are experts, and we're not going to go learn scientific theroy just to appease people.

Why not? I did. Its not that hard. You dont have to learn scientific theory, just learn enough to not need things like weird crystals just to have plasma guns.

OOC: You can have fun playing a game without parading around basic scientific ignorance.

Example: It is a well known fact that while mass can approach the speed of light, it can not reach it...and that plasma has mass. So why is it that that plasma went the speed of light?

Example2: It is a well known fact that crystals are solid. Solids do not go through and get "enhanced" by them, nor do liquids, gases, or plasmas.

Just as people cringe when literally every other word is misspelt, others cringe with such terrible descriptions.

Learning basic scientific principles is not difficult. It does not ruin fun. And for those that don't wish to, they don't have to, as long as they don't pretend they have.

To be taken serious in a GAME where there are elves, ubertech, gravships, vampires, magic users, space travel, demi gods and all this other BS and YOU are in MY thread criticizing ME over BS technical mumbo jumbo? OMG!

Go get 100 bucks and hire a prostitute because you need laid really, REALLY bad. I say prostitute because it is crystal clear you have no one other than Rosie.

Obviously, thinking in your version of NS is strictly prohibited, and I am happy to say that YOU do not run it.

What started out as a simple fun thread ended in a typical BS bitch session with uptight people that claim they 'know it all'. People like you, Wazzu and SB, make this game NO FUN.

OOC: I'm just saying I don't feel like looking things up half the time. Thus why I'm a fantasy nation with modern (and some future) tech. I don't get how things work, so when in doubt I use magic.

I make a point not to down other people for their work in general. This is a free form game so we have the right to explain anything we use, andyway we see fit.

what this all boils down to: stop beating a dead horse, because we're gonna do our own thing in the end anyway. You don't even play with him? why argue?

I'm done. No more posts on this for me

Gee uh, you're welcome.

By the way, theres something called constructive criticism, its where you try to be better than before by taking into account information from other sources. Look into it.

But you're right, I guess this thread is dead for sure now that you've turned it into a ridiculous flame fest instead of just, I dunno, being mature and handling it like an adult or something.

You can just ignore his technobable if you want...
That two forms of radiation are "matter" but can pentrate a crystal...
and not all "crystals" are non-porus material...so...who knows...
