Ferney Island, 1000 miles off the coast off the Menelmacari coast

The red sun rose over the small, insignificant island of Ferney. The small peak was nothing more then a piece of rock, the extension of an oceanic ridge. Ferney had been there for a long time, but it never was of much interest to anyone. Until recently… On the island itself, a large flag waved on an improvised flagpole. It bore the colours of the Democratic Republic: purple, white and blue. Around the island, warning buoys drifted on the ocean, warning all traffic not to come near.

On the bridge of the Knootian battleship Zhakarov a group of scientists from the Vortex Corporation had gathered round on the bridge, wearing special glasses to protect their eyes. They had especially been invited to witness this event. Knootian military officers were buzzing round preparing their mission.

Captain van der Bult gave the order though to the main CAESAR supercomputer: “This is van der Bult confirming high command order Alpha dash 32. Unlink all systems from Skynet,” The computer buzzed conformingly. “Well gentlemen, we are ready to begin testing. Start the countdown…” The soft female voice whispered as the battleship, the pride of the fleet, went on full alert. “Now or never” he whispered inaudibly.

The nuclear submarine KDF Maurits rose up from the waters, its black hull glimmering and reflecting the sunlight of the new dawn. Onboard the ship, all alarms were wailing as the ship was to full alert, ready to launch. A sleek white tube elevated into the skies, speed increasing every second as it made it’s way to the island of Ferney.

The bomb flashed blinding scarlet in mid-air, and fell, a descending column of blaze eddying spirally in the midst of a whirlwind. The shockwave went forth and the helmsman of the Zhakarov, with gleaming eyes and set teeth, fought for a balance. The tactical officer clung tight with hand and knees; his nostrils dilated, his teeth biting his lips. When he could look up again it was like looking upon the crater of what looked like a small volcano. On the small rock in the middle of the ocean a shuddering star of evil splendour spurted and poured up smoke and flame towards them like an accusation.

The bombs, melting soil and rock in their progress, bored into the earth. There, as more and more of the materials became active, the bomb spread itself out into a monstrous cavern of fiery energy.

Such was the crowning triumph of military science, the ultimate explosive that was to give the 'decisive touch' to war....

Immediately afterwards, a small statement from the Knootian ministry of Defence was released:

Today at 6:04 AM we successfully committed the test of a mid-range nuclear weapon on the island of Ferney. The new mix in the test weapon successfully reduced radioactive emissions by 27% while significantly increasing yield. The test is also a clear message to all potential belligerents that Knootoss is not to be trifled with and that any attack on Knootian sovereignty shall be retaliated in full force.

The test also immediately follows our complete and formal withdrawal from the Skynet nuclear umbrella treaty. The new government no longer deems protection by AMF’s system prudent.

Reasons behind this, neatly compiled in an OOC list:
-To RP improving relations with the Vortex Corporation (I took the liberty of Rping them there Vortex, k? this qualifies as “een leuke gelegenheid om betere IC relaties te krijgen” right?)
-To announce that I am formally withdrawing from AMF’s skynet.
-To announce completion of my moving of nuclear weapons off the Knootian mainland and onto subs, dependencies etc.
-To either annoy Siri or SeOCC somewhat, pending on poll results.
-To make it CLEAR once and for all that Knootoss shall not be pushed around.

At the White Asem military facility, a young communications officer handed a stack of documents to his commanding officer. He, a major in his forties, reached over his desk and accepted the papers. Quickly skimming through them, his eyes glanced over the numbers and conclusions.

"Thank you, lieutenant. Please make sure that when our delegation returns to the Peninsula, they are debriefed extensively. I want to know if this data concurs with what they have seen with their own eyes."

"Of course, sir", said the other while saluting.

Malieveld, The Hague, Knootcap

Back in Knootoss it rained like hell and occasionally lightning lit up the evening sky. On the Malieveld, where demonstrations were usually held, a small crowd of a few hundred people gathered. They were shouting anti-nuclear and pacifist chants. However the weather was so bad that the group quickly dispersed...

A similar group of protestors, several hundreds of them, tried demonstrating in front of the Corporate Headquarters. However, with the recent integration of the Council, security officers perceived this as a potential thread. When a squad of Lynx hoverdynes and a battalion of marines appeared on the scene, the angry mob quickly dispersed, fortunately without any further incidents.

Later that day, a reminder was sent to the media by the mandate of the Daiamid council, intended to point out that the Corporation does not use any nuclear weapons whatsoever, except for the tactical nuclear shells for the old Artillery Terradynes, which will soon be replaced by more "clean" weapons.

"So they have nukes now, eh? Heh."

A test in or around Menelmacar would be our ideal solution.

OOC: we already had nukes. But this test is special because

it means that I am out of AMF’s skynet, to give off a signal to Siri (don't look down too much) or SeOCC (who wants a cold war - well, he can have one if negotiations with DA fail.) It's not realy about the tech.

Also, I no longer have nukes on my mainland now as specified by the Dominion treaty...

There isn't one. Firing the weapon at Menelmacar would:
A) result in it being shot down long before detonation, which would sort of defeat the purpose of the test. 8)
B) cause fifty-three flavors of untold Elven wrath to descend upon Knootoss. :twisted:

I'm not really into the Elvish Wrath thingy. I prefer sparking mild annoyance. The poll is very close now, and I am going to give it some more time before deciding on the location. "Interactive RP" eh?

And I do have star trek tech so I could, theorerically, ortillery Siri from space. But I would never do that. :roll:

Miweenian merchants are seen on street corners, hawking baseball caps to commemorate the nukes. They're also selling missile shaped "toys," but only in accordance with the laws of the country in which they are selling. (Miweenia has no laws regarding this).
