Dark Sun

07-10-2003, 22:39
It seems the DS players are appearing more frequently on NS than they were when I used to play more often...this brings me back to my idea of a Dark Sun campaign on NS. I had a thread about it before, but I don't know if they still have it. Anyone who wants to join a DS campaign, please post your character sheet here. If you have to ask, you can't play.

What...noone wants to play? ...or does noone remember 2e rules? ...alright...ask all the questions you want...

What is DS and how do you play?

Its Dark Sun, a campaign setting for D&D 2nd ed.

OOC: I used to play D&D, but I've never played Dark Sun... can you provide some more details?

www.armageddon.org for a Dark Sunnish Roleplaying game. It's RP enforced at all times, and it's badass. Minimum of twinks, maximum of badass Roleplayers. I waste more of my life there than everywhere else combined, including NationStates.

Check it out. GREAT STUFF.
08-10-2003, 06:02
OOC: I'm interested, but at the same time I'm wondering if this wouldn't get more hits in the "General" forum...

OOC:
w00k! The bunnies are interested indeed, although I don't have any current resource books if they are needed.

Although this thread porbably should belong elsewhere.

If you are GM'ing and we have enough peeps gathered to carry a FRPG then I'm in, as long as the resources is readily available online, and plz alert me in that case if this thread moves etc...
08-10-2003, 06:17
OOC: I agree with Kinky Bunnies on this one. As long as someone else is willing to GM, I'm in. Just kindly let me know when you make a decision.

There is some info at www.athas.org. Read it. I don't want you to know too much because you will start as slaves anyway. I will DM...or I might get Dhoregnohb to...but he probably wants to be a player...

Download the Wanderer's Journal from Kazaa. Any wizards, clerics, or templars may read this.

This is a nightmare beast...something that will be killing your party if you see one.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is the necessity of a background for each character. This will determine the starting location, social status...

Hey, you still didn't answer my question. Can you at least give me the basics. I catch on quickly. I have one character. I like her. I know her. I would like to use her. The character is from James's Dream and the thread I started, New Beginnings. Check it out and can I use her or not? Sorry, I have so many questions, I am new at this and I do not know how entirely this works. Thanks much.

According to the D&D quiz I took a while back (and several others of the same general type) my ideal character is a halfling bard/thief of either true neutral, chaotic neutral or neutral good alignment.

Ironic that I got chaotic neutral so many times, since it's supposed to be the alignment of crazy people. Maybe that's why I like Zim so much.

actually, there's nothing wrong with CN, I love playing CN, and btw I took those tests as well, but RP what you want, you don't have to go by that.

btw, is there anyway I can jump to a thread of interest for me fast? apart from the labourious searching you have to do due to high traffic in the forum here. :?
09-10-2003, 16:19
Use the search function on the corner of the forum screen...it helps a lot.
I always play CN. I have 2 wizard characters...both CN, a thri-kreen cleric/psion (CN), and a halfling rogue (CE).

Amanda, if you don't know how to play, download the AD&D Player's Handbook from Kazaa. Also, go to www.athas.org for some literature about Dark Sun.

Everyone, roll 4d4+4 for ability scores. Fighters get an extra d4 STR. Classes to choose from are...

Fighter
Gladiator
Cleric
Wizard
Psionicist
Ranger
Druid
Rogue
Trader
Templar
(i might be forgetting something)

If you wish to make a party of templars, all of you read the Wanderer's Journal (get from Kazaa) and I'll tell you some about the Sorceror-Kings.

Starting cities are...

Balic
Tyr
Draj
Nibenay
Gulg
Raam

Please note that Halflings are savage cannibals in this campaign.

Characters start at lvl 3. If you wish, you may make a character tree. This is four characters that have some connection (they know each other). When your active character levels, you may increase the level of an inactive character (exception: active rogues may not level inactive wizards)

Dune reapers...another thing to watch out for...

Also, I would like to know what your characters want to do with their lives. CN characters arekinda boring unless they are led by a character with an extreme alignment.
09-10-2003, 18:11
Cool. I might be joining, I am going to read some infomation upon this.....looks good. Already have a character in mind...
09-10-2003, 18:13
I sure hope it isn't like Jon Irenicus.
09-10-2003, 18:20
Kain is certainly not like Jon Irenicus. I simply took to elven word "Broken One, Exiled One" as his surname, as he has been banished and no longer has his familiy name.

And I am not going to use Kain, he is a vampire. Would not be apporpriate and I want to play an ordinary person...perhaps a dwarf...perhaps not. Depends on the others in the group. Are you going to do this on nationstates, or in the other forums?

I am considering playing as well...
Must read up on some stuff before I decide though, been years since I've played Dark Sun
09-10-2003, 18:37
I'd rather do it on openrpg, but noone uses it.
09-10-2003, 19:10
We'll start when I have a list of players and characters.

Alright, I'm doing the required reading and will be thinking up with something over the weekend, just got some work to finish off b4 end of Friday :P
I'll most likely be NE, CN does go a bit random and loopy if left to their own devices, hehe...
10-10-2003, 14:41
This is Arconom...they deleted me because of Clokeland's actions.

Clokeland was a friend of mine who caused some ruckus in the forums.

Anyway, I'll be RPing the 1.03B nation of Arconom.

Hopefully, they'll bring me back when they see this. (not gonna happen)
10-10-2003, 19:54
Hey, you guys let me know if you can't find the literature. I can mail you a CD filled with DS2e stuff.

know anywhere that I can find some e-dice?
I wouldn't trust my own player rolling, I usually take things either from an average point system or let the GM roll.
11-10-2003, 20:38
Do not mention that you use Kazza or any system like it. The mods do not condone it. Just an early warning...

I do not know about 3ed, I play 2nd.

I have it on a cd.
My Kazaa username is arconom.
I'll try to get it there as soon as I can.
I found all of my 2e stuff on Kazaa.
Search for "Dune Trader", Wanderer's Journal", "Thri-Kreen", "Dark Sun Campaign Setting", "Gladiator's Handbook", "AD&D"
11-10-2003, 21:00
Huh? Still....Kazza is treated as illegal.....best thread lightly. Anyway, I am going to see about all of this very soon.

If we are doing Dark Sun we should do it 2nd Ed. as they still haven't gotten Dark Sun converted yet. (They just did Dragonlance though so I'm not too pissed at them) Expect me to start working on my character tomorrow when I have more time.
13-10-2003, 15:47
Dark Sun is WAY unbalanced in 3e. 2e makes it much more fun. The rules in Dark Sun are slightly different than regular 2e. You'll need to read them...I can't remember all the differences.
13-10-2003, 16:33
Oh yes...I forgot...it isn't illegal to download DS2e stuff because it is out of print. :D
13-10-2003, 16:35

hmm, I've never played trader before, would it be viable, would it get tedious with the item counting?

otherwise I'd be willing to give it a go, or if it fits in with what you have planned. And I suppose it makes no difference which city we start in?
15-10-2003, 16:38
Traders begin the campaign with the ability to read and write. They have the same THAC0 and HP as a Rogue. They get the same skills as a Rogue. Traders get allies that they can call upon in times of difficulty. This ally is +- d2 levels from the Trader. Flip a coin. Heads = 2, Tails = 1. Flip the coin again. Heads = positive, Tails = negative.
