ANH Debating Chamber

Larkinia
05-10-2003, 06:09
In a large, circular, silver room. High, arching windows draw in the sun's afternoon rays as the delegates make their way in for their daily meeting...

"Afternoon," Jamie Shinisha, Larkinia's new (and temporary) Ambassador to the ANH said as he walked in with the others. "Who ordered the pizza this time? It looks like a long day ahead of us," he said checking his tablet PC for the day's agenda.

A gavel rings out from the chairman's seat at the top of the ring of seats.

The day's chairman (insert name of whoever the lucky person is today) said "Gentlemen, let us move onto the first order of business, the recent actions against Daezeman by Imitora. Who would like to speak first?"

The Lord Alexander Laughlin sat down behind the 'Iansisle' nametag. He had a piece of his mind - sanctioned, and even encouraged by the Parliament, to give the discussion, but he wanted to hold for now, to hear what others had to say.

Roberto DiPartenza quickly found his seat. It was not the first time he had been to an ANH debate, and hoped it would not be his last. Placing a rough hand inside of his jacket he soon pulled out a Pocket PC (aka Highly Modified Palm Pilot, used by Ag. Armed Forces). He placed it on the table in front of him and poured himself a glass of water. And so it begins, he told himself, Chi ha fretta vada piano..

Jamie sat down and sipped his water, scribbling notes on his PC Tablet.

It would have been nice if I'd been given some direction as to how they want me to approach this.

He looked around the room and waited for someone to begin.

Chi dorme non piglia pesci, he thought and then cleared his throat.

"We are all gathered here for one, solemn reason. The nation of Daezeman has been, in many eyes, unjustly attacked and utterly destroyed by the nation of Imitora, now both of these nations are and were members of the ANH. This discussion will be on the status of their membership as well as that of the Alliance itself", Roberto said, took a sip of water, and then continued. "The Nation of Agrigento is quite torn on this issue, while we consider Imitora a great ally, we cannot forgot the tremendous loss of life that occured due their aggressions. As for now, on the subject of their status we must obstain. Would anyone else like to comment?"
Iansisle
05-10-2003, 06:34
Lord Alexander looked about the room - he didn't want to speak first, but he certainly didn't want the chairman to dismiss the issue either. Coughing slightly, he stood to speak.

"May I petition the chair for the floor?" Receiving an affirmative answer, Laughlin turned to the assembled crowd.

"Honoured gentleman (and ladies?): There is no debate in my mind that what Imitora has done is not only wrong to the people of Daezeman, but a crime against humanity."

The Iansislean delegation shifted and muttered to each other. The Lord Alexander was known for mincing words; this direct attack was highly unusual.

"I propose to the chair," he continued, "That Imitora be put under probation while a joint-ANH investigation team studies the destructive power of their weapons, why they were knowingly unleashed on a fellow Alliance nation, and the structure of decision making inside Imitora itself. This is a tragedy which cannot, should not, and will not ever be repeated."

He gazed straight at Cleese as he spoke. "Iansisle stands behind our fallen comrades, and will not pause to find out the motives behind this sinister and unwarranted attack."

Strong words, strong words indeed

"Thank you Mr....", he looks down at the Pocket PC, "Alexander. All for vote on the status of Imitoran Membership say Aye", he paused and looked around, "We will continue to this discuss this matter once a decision is reached on whether such a course should be pursued."

Lord Alexander winced at being called Mister, but didn't mention it. "Iansisle votes 'aye' to review Imitora's current standing within the Alliance."

05-10-2003, 07:33
"We have an Aye from Mr. Alexander. No one else wishes to vote on this matter?"

Lord Alexander coughed slightly and nodded at Roberto, but refused to burn bridges for who could be a large potential ally.

"So that is two ayes, is anyone else present?", he pauses, no one responds, "if not the measure passes". He looks around nervously, his palms begin to sweat.

IC: Jamie stands up again, "I move that we table the vote until the other members of the alliance are here. I also move that we begin discussion on how this happened, and what we can do to keep something like this from happening again."

Larkinia
05-10-2003, 08:46
Jamie sat down nodding with Roberto's sentiment...

Opening arguments, a very good ide.... why is everyone looking at me?

He looked at the other delegates looking at him, and realized that he was expected to start the debate...

But... I just made the motion.. damnit, remind me to shut the hell up next time.

Jamie stood back up and cleared his throat.

"Gentlemen of the Alliance, acrimonious feelings had existed between the nations of Imitora and Daezeman for many years, reaching back as far as and beyond the incident when Imitoran soldiers fired on a group of Daezemani elves, pushing this alliance to the brink of war... (to be continued as I grab my tea)

05-10-2003, 09:44
Jamie sipped his tea and continued. "Maybe we didn't heed this first sign, we did not look deeper into the animosity between the two sides. Maybe in a rush, we assumed 'all's well that ends well'.

"But an alliance is nothing if member states are willing to bomb each other to oblivion," he continued. "If we can not come here to air grievances with each other, under some level of civility, then someone had better cancel that pizza order right now, and close up this hall forever."

Sir Talfryn Cheeseman was sat uncomfortably erect in his chair- he didn't like feeling that ..prominant, and should like to sit further into his seat, but to do so would have caused greater discomfort as he entered the final stages of his recovery (after being shot, that is).
His elaborate Walmingtonian fountain pen wrote slowly, and continued inspite of his assistant's greater speed.

Still wondering what a pizza actually tasted, or even looked like, Sir Talfryn took advantage of a pause to add Walmington's belated "Aye", coughing slightly through the pleasantries that preceeded his vote.

(Thanks for the bump...and now for a little bilocation from Dr. Niven)

Dr. Niven enters the room with a grim face and takes his seat. "Ladies and gentlemen, I must appologize for my tardyness. I would give you all a long list of excuses, but that would waste all of our time. Let me say that I would like to hear the reasons that Imitora has to offer, however I do also vote aye for a review of their status within this alliance. I would very much like to know if this level of respone was appropriate, and if this act of genocide could be avoided. I would like to know if diplomacy was truely tried or if the two sides were to eager for bloodshed. Since we cannot offer any aid or condimnation to the nation of Daezman, I would like to move for a moment of silence for those lost before we go on any further."
Larkinia
06-10-2003, 09:15
Jamie stood up, "I'd like to second Dr. Niven's motion for a moment of silence."

The chairman looked around the room, "Any opposition? Then gentlemen, a moment of silence for the nation formerly known as Daezeman.."

The Walmingtonian delegation observe the silence, Sir Talfryn's eyes turned down.

Cheeseman was trying to figure out exactly how an act of genocide might ever be unavoidable or justified. Had he understood the incident better he might have asked were it intentional, but by his Walmingtonian understanding the obliteration of a country couldn't be done by accident.

OOC: Nope, played at home, 26-9 w00t w00t. Oh, and Clease isn't there.

IC:

The two large wooden oak doors swung open, each comming in contacts with wall with a heavy 'thud'. In walked five rather violent looking men, clad in the new MJLINOR armor used by the Imitoran Colonial Marine Corps. If it wern't for the person who strolled in, not quite casually, but not quite seriously behind them, they may have feared a possibe hostile take over.

Ormsby looked different. She wasn't her usuall bright, beeming self, and her bright blue eyes seemed more of a dull grey. She had looked like she had put a few pounds on, no more than five or six, but it was still visible against her usually slight frame. She sat at the table, and took a sip of water. Before anyone had the chance to say anything, she began speaking.

"Gentleman, as you know, President Walken ordered an attack on Deazeman last week which tottally whiped them off the face of the map. Personaly, while I am upset at this, I had no control over it. I have been in the hospital for a little over two weeks now after the incident at the ski lodge. However, after veiwing the reports, I have come to believe that this attack was fully justified. King Daniel had admited to the killing of 15 Imitoran citizens by his government. An attack on an Imitoran citizen is akin to an attack on teh government itself, and therefore our attack was justified. No Deazemanis in Imitora were killed, and I have the word of President Walken that they were all under the besty care we could possibly give to them. It is with their own decision that they had decided to kill themselves." She paused, taking another sip of water, and continued.

"You may also have questioned the power pf the weapons used. I can asure you that none of the weapons were of any sort weapons of mass destruction, and it was common knowledge that we possesed these weapons. The weapons used for the bombardment of Deazseman were standard mass drivers, and weak by comparison of some of the weapons out there they we could have used. The attack was a simple control attack, to insure minimal losses of Imitoran troops. We were in a state of war, and in war, it isn't our job to look out for the enemy, but insure the safety of the lives of our own troops. It was however, not common knowledge that an attack on his country would have this affect." She paused again. "I think that its all I have to say, and all that can be said in defence of my nation. You may notice that I have refered to Walken as president, and I do that on good measure, as at the moment, I have yet to resume my position of Presidnet of Imitora, and I am not sure when, or if, I will."

OOC2: Knowing that Ormsby has yet to resume presidency, and that Walken is President is kina important.
06-10-2003, 22:29
ooc: Dammit Imitora! I gave you a specific range - one to 15. 'an unknown number' means it could be MILLIONS!

"I find Imitora's claims to be less than adequate. If an nation does not truly know the destructive forces of its weapons, than perhaps it should not be allowed to have them!", responded someone from the Agrigento table. It wasn't Roberto, but rather Bruno Testardo, leader of the Labor Party and late comer to the proceedings.

Mandi turned and looked at him. At this point in her life, this was less than whst she needed. "Sir, I'll have you know that I, well, whoever is President, will do anything that will insure the protection of Imitora. I never said I did not know of their destructive power, I said we did not know that the soil composition of Deazeman would cause this reaction. The power of these weapons we poses, as I have said, is common knowledge."

"And yet you attacked, heedless of the potential consequences. THAT, my friend, is the mark of a dangerous rogue state, and not one worthy of being assosiated with the New Highlands." Lord Alexander's voice was cold and chill, and several Iansislean delegates moved to restrain him.

Niven leans back in his chair, fingers resting on his brow. " First of all, I feel that personal attacks are unwarranted and counterproductive, so please let us keep this civil. Now, I am still a little unclear on the reasons for all out war being declared. This could have been handled vary simply. My questions for Imitora are as follows : 1. what diplomatic avenues did you persue before your warships were called in. 2. Why was the alliance not cunsulted to apply pressure to Daezmon or just for an opinion before you persued this course of action. 3. Did you attempt any other course of action before fireing on a member of this alliance ? Also , I think that you should have your bodyguards leave this meeting immediatly, they are not neccesary and an insult to this commitee. "
Larkinia
07-10-2003, 07:14
The chairman grins as the bodyguards storm in the room. With his foot he taps the emergency switch at the bottom of his desk.

Doesn't matter how tough they think they are, the security here is always tougher...

Jamie sat back and sipped his tea. "First, madam, given threats on Daezemani-descended people living in Imitora, maybe you should think twice before lecturing anyone about internal security. Unless the security officers in Imitora were turning a blind eye towards the threats, possibly giving you justification to putting them in 'special camps', and thereby giving you the justification needed when Daezeman threatened you about their treatment.

"Next, you claim that fifteen Imitorans were killed in Daezeman. I won't argue that some might have been killed. But it was a recorded statement that they were moved or killed, apparently Daniel didn't know. If it is all right for Imitora to take people and move them into concentration camps 'for their own good', then how is that different from Daniel ordering Imitorans moved out of the capital city 'for their own good', and the protection of the capital. I'm sure that you can appreciate keeping your capital safe from possible attack. Now, what happens when someone refuses to follow police orders or be taken into custody? If they are in Daezeman, apparently they are shot." Jamie looks on his Tablet PC a moment, "A precedent was set with the 'Mike' case in.. well well well, Imitora. An android was chased, and detained, in part based on failing to follow police orders. Last time I checked, resisting police orders is a crime, and crimes are punished by each member nation, as agreed in the discussion of Article Three of the ANH Charter."

Jamie was surprised at the roll he was on. "15 Imitorans are either missing or dead, and you use that as justification to wipe out hundreds of millions of people.

"You didn't know that the soil composition would cause the reaction that occurred. That does not change the fact that an entire nation has been devestated. You fired on another nation, regardless of whether you knew this would happen, you still hold accountability, not just to us, for that. It's like firing a pistol at a man's leg, then saying 'I didn't know he'd die' when the bullet severs the femoral artery and he bleeds to death. Mr. Testardo is right, if you possess weapons like this, then maybe it would do you some good to know exactly what they do."

Dr. Niven's assistant comes in with an urgent note. He reads for a moment and then his face loses all color.."Dear gods"
"Things have taken a turn for the worse. Our embassy in Daezmon.....was destroyed. It would appear that the first attack by the Star Rouge and the other three Imitorian ships on the Daezmon capital city destroyed our embassy and killed everyone inside." The doctor takes a moment to gather himself...sadness turning to rage.
"This flagrant disregard for human life cannot, and will not be tolerated. This could have been avoided by a simple communication before the bombardment began. Imitora fired on a civilian target without notifiying the populace or their allies."
"We were already concerned when Imitora brought in such a huge amount of fire power on a nation that had no military, but to have fired on a location that was mostly civilian is unthinkable. And now you have killed allies, and the children of your allies, you have spilled Celebornian blood."

OOC: Celeborne has had a long standing embassy in Daezmon , in the capital city. And :
In the dark empty space over Deazeman, three Northampton class firgates appeared out of fold space. Each had been prepared hours in advance should the call come, and it had. The Star Rouge, the lead of the three ships, opened fire first. Its ten mass drivers each firing a 15 foot long, 1 foot wide ablative coated tungston carbide round at the capital city every 30 seconds. The cylinders would impact at speeds near Mach 20.
I can't see much of a way my embassy could have avoided that, and since the Imitoran scans showed no life signs......

With the arrival of the Imitorans Sir Talfryn stopped wondering why he hadn't any tea, and started wondering why he hadn't any bodyguards (he was unaware that one of the two equally slight Walmingtonians with him was a SOW agent and feather-weight barefist boxing champion).

ooc:Now I'm wondering why I haven't any tea. Must address the shortfall.. but in the mean-time, I suppose, though I had (inexplicably) not thought about it before, it seems likely that Walmingtonians, and others, would have been in Daezmon at the time of its destruction, no?

Mandi simply sioghed, brushing off any attempts at insult, and took a sip of water. "Lord Alexander, first, I will adress you. You made no point for me to counter whatsoever. All you said was that if a nation doesn't know the power of its weapons, they should not use them. I responded with we Niven.

"What diplomatic avenues were saught? Were you not at the convention before the bombardment? We told the King of Deazeman exactly what it would take for him to have us call off the attacks. He said no, and proceded to tell us that 15 Imitoran citizens had been moved or killed. Now, if he had just said that they had been moved, then negotians would have proceded. However, as stated, an attack on a citizen is just like an attack on our government. The comittee was not consultated because President Walken had decided to handle this on his own, as in the past the alliance comittee has failed, and quite miserably I might add, to resolve conflicts between member nations. And I dont care how the comittee takes it, my bodygaurds are staying, simple as that."

The 5 men didnt so much as flinch as the Larkinian gaurds rushed in, as they new they didn't have the balls, or the need, to fire on anyone. Mandi turned to Jamie.

"Sir, I'll have you know that our internal security is near perfect. After the last incident," she meant the assasination attempt, "terrorist actions have been down to a minimum, and by that I mean there have been none. Now, on the issue of the camps," she pulled out a manilla folder, and tossed it onto the table.

On it were pictures of the camps, showing housing, akin to a callege dorm. 2 people per room, in 20 foot by 15 foot rooms. In each room, there were two desks, big enough for a moniter and a tv, with a space under the desk for a CPU. There were two closets, and two chesterdroors tucked under each bed. Each room had a large window that could be opened, with no bars over the window. There were two rooms, plus a laundry room and a large bathroom to a suite, and five suites to a dorm. There was a large courtyard, well kept, and a small chapple at the end of it.

More pictures showed the security level of the camp. Gaurds were mostly reservists, armed with the M5B Battle Rifle, a single shot 7.62mm weapon. However, 'sticky notes' showed that they were firing LTL rounds, tranquillizers. There was a simple fence line, a standard chainlink fence, which had a small ball like object every 50 feet. More sticky nots showed that the turrets fired an electric burst from two cables, like a stun gun, and were designed to only fire outside the fence to keep people out, not in. An attached report showed that the deazemanis held in the camps were paid $6.00 an hour for voulentary work, and could spend it at one of the many small shops, theaters, or cantinas (all run by Deazemanis persons) on the camp grounds. Food was nothing amazing, but it was good, and free if you ate at the cafeteria. All in all, it was like a small comunity surounded by a fence.

"Now, about the movement of Imitoran citizens, yes, I agree, he can move them for all he wants. Good for him. It doesnt bother us. However, he stated that some had been killed. No Deazemanis in Imitora were killed by any Imitoran government personal durring the ordeal. As stated, they were put in the camps for their own safety, as anti-Deazemani sentiment was undoubtly high. Now the Mike case, he did more than resist arrest. He was a determined threat to our government, which is more than you can say about the citizens in Deazeman. Most of them were simple buisness men or families enjoying a nice vacation. I will admit, we did have one agent in Deazeman, but this," she tossed out a stack of papers on the table, "will show he did not resist arrest." The papers showed that the last communication from the incountry agent had come from Ankh-Morph (or however you spell it), approxamately three hours before the attack. "And yes, we do use that as justification. If you think it isn't, then maybe I should kill some of your citizens, and cry big bad man if you attack Imitora." She sighed, as the fact of the weapons just kept comming up. "If I fired at a mans leg, and he died, then I would know why he died. He bled to death. That is a common know fact. No, we are not responsible for the affect the weapons had on the soil causing all the Deazemanis to kill themselves. If we had known this would have happened, then the matter would have been handled in a way that would have been a little less destructive. Or do I again have to state that, in war, it isn't up to you to die for your country, its for the other person to die for his."

OOC2: I'm assuming that when the Deazeman capital moved, then the Cele Embassy moved as well.

She took a longer pause this time, taking a sip of water. She listend to Niven's outburst, and popped her knuckles. "Dr. Niven, if you had done your job, and been present at the ANH meeting before the attack, then you would have known that the attack was comming. You would think that the total evacuation in a military style of our embassy before the attack would alert people to what is comming." She stretched her neck a bit, and continued. "Now, appearently you have one of the worst inteligence communities in the world, as it is a well known fact that Deazeman was in teh process of builing a military before the attack (OOC3: I'll dig up the thread if you want it). Laughlin snorted. "I did indeed see a report on the so-called diplomatic proceedings. They largely consisted of an Imitoran delegation badgering the Daezemani monarch until they thought a sufficient causus belli had been established. Not to mention that, the exact second they thought perhaps their own outlandishly over-complex and paranoid security procedures were being used against them, they simply strode out of the meeting, returning as angels of death for an entire people.

"So the death of a single Imitoran warrants the death of an entire people? Friends," he continued, turning to the assembled delegates, "Many have accused Iansisleans of being arrogant, but never before in our history have we allowed ourselves to become so blinded by bloodlust that we would consider ourselves to be demigods, worthy of having a single life - or even fifteen - avenged by the immolation of millions.

"Of course, if we have been hiding in a naive closet for our entire history, and such a thing is indeed not only justifiable, but warranted, I see little reason why you shouldn't turn around and help Celeborne eradicate yourself from the universe - after all, isn't that what you did to the Daezemani? To do anything but allow yourself to be destroyed now would be hypocritical - granted, however, that's something we've come to expect from the Imitoran government over the years.

"And frankly, I can't see how you would dare to tout your own Orwellian security systems as a defense for genocidal behavior. Remember, ma'am, a well-kept prison with moving picture boxes and well-groomed guards is just that: a prison. Just because your own citizens are so sheep-like to allow themselves to be bullied by a bloated, over-intrusive and corrupt government doesn't mean that the Daezemani are..." He paused dramatically, drenching his next line with spite. "Excuse me. Were.

"Ma'am, right now Iansisle is at war with what may be the greatest threat to world freedom and democracy in history. And frankly, when I look from you to Mr. Hitler, I see no difference."

You can feel that way all you wish, but let it be known that your feelings mean nothing at all to me. After this meeting, I'm going to go home, and I'm not going to think 'Oh my, Lord Alexander and the Iansisleanians dont like me, whatever shall I do?' No I will go home, resume the presidency of my nation, and continue on with my life," she replied, leaning back in her chair.

Bruno Testardo sat unimpressed by the words of the Imitoran President (who may or may not be back in power yet). He exchanged a glance with Roberto, not one of comfort or friendship, but of competition and contempt. Roberto is a well known member of the Federalist party, and a close friend of President Corleone, the man whom Bruno had fought against in vain a mere election ago. Their would be no discussions at this table, he had demonstrated his higher ranking in the government, as a high ranking senate leader he held precedent over the words of an Ambassador. Soon he would bring along with him the ideals of the Labor party, and his less than honorable past. Roberto was suprised that the Senator had not started to alienate the whole ANH from Agrigento, as is the wishs of his isolationist faction. Senate would never approve of that however, and he was here to speak for them.

"I condemn thee Imitora, you act for your own petty greed, and envy. Perhaps you were jealous of the Daezeman Utopia? Their pacifist ways frightened you, didn't it??", he said with a smirk forming on his face. "You were scared, and you used your big bad military to put an end to them", he insinuated. "What an insecure country, that even a women feels such envy!'

Roberto could be heard coughing, choking on the words of the Senator as if it was hemlock. He was about to speak but was stopped short by the senator's rantings.

"What a petty little society..."

"Senator!! You selfish fool.", Roberto had heard enough. "Stop with this nonesense! It is not about the causes of this war, it is about the innocent people killed, and the measures that could have or should have been taken. Why do you feel the need to constantly spout your pointless rantings at every opportunity to speak you get?? Perhaps you are scared that someone will take your microphone away!",

The senator's face turned bright red, barely visible against his tan skin - tan from numerous vacations to North Islandia no doubt. He was a hypocrit in the highest form, always talking about the conditions of the poor yet doing nothing.

"How dare you! You insignificant worm!! Remove him from this room!", he shouted. Two aids tried to grab Roberto but he broke free.

"I am not walking out of this hall, unless it is of my own free will.", he got up from his seat and walked to the door.

Mandi sat unphased by the outburst and simply shrugged. "If we were jealous, we would have simply taken it. Its pretty appearnt that taking it from them wouldn't have been that hard. Jamie listened to the outburst by Roberto and Testardo and simply sighed.

The chairman banged his gavel on the desk again. "Mr. Testardo, I will remind you that Roberto is the official Ambassador to the ANH, and until I receive further notice, he will speak for Agrigento."

Mandi sat unphased by the outburst and simply shrugged. "If we were jealous, we would have simply taken it. Its pretty appearnt that taking it from them wouldn't have been that hard. But, if us being scared was the case, and we did feel threatened, I do believe we put an end to that threat, whatever it may be."

Jamie sipped his tea again. "And once again we see the famous Imitoran arrogance. I can see how a small nation with a just forming army could scare you so. After all, up against the great Imitoran military why would anyone want to begin to defend themselves. You're just like the schoolyard bully who found his daddy's gun.

"You still have not answered the Iansislian charges. These diplomatic proceedings were staged so you would have so-called justification for the obliteration of an entire people. You funneled people into concentration camps, regardless of how pretty you wish them to look. Did the Daezeman king have access to this information that they were not being funneled into train cars for the ride to the camp? Of course he did not, becuase to do that would have removed your justification for war, and heaven forbid that should happen.

"You're internal security is near perfect? Then it looks like they must have been turning that blind eye to attacks against people of Daezemani-descent. Maybe they received orders to do so..."

Jamie took another sip. "And do not presume to tell Dr. Niven what Celeborne should or should not have done. There was little, if any, notification for the attack. Three ships appeared above Daezeman and started firing, again, with little if any true justification."

A light beeps on the Larkinian diplomat's desk, and he presses the communications button. "I beleive you'll want to hear what this woman has to say."

Katherine's voice rings out.

"I am the last Daezemani alive. Luckily, I was already losing the effects of the psylocke-stone by the time the attacks happened, other wise, yes, I would have died as the remaining stone fractured within me. I am, however, left with a massive headache and some internal bleeding.

I presume you have all heard, or read transcripts of, the communications between my nephew, the late King Daniel, and the Imitoran President Walken.

You all read the full text of the new Daezemani security law. And, of course, you all know that the military's actions were fully justified by law."

A muttering is heard, and snatches of Jolian Mantra 4 are heard: 'I am holy... all is holy... God forgive me for my sin."

"But... of course, that doesn't matter. Remember the lesson of Daezeman always, my friends. Remember that Imitoran actions killed a country, a country that never, never did anything illegal by its laws.

Remember that to Imitora, anything goes until it's done to them.

Roberto looked viciously at the Senator, "He is in Westshire ensuring the safety of you, that cow you call a wife, and those spoiled brats you call children!!!"

"You will burn for this DiPartenza!! You wait and see, Corleone cannot be president forever. Next year in fact he must take a break from running, you know our system of Presidential terms...or do you??"

"Out of respect for the people present here I will leave, and end this rude exhibition. Perhaps when you're ready to stop pouting and behave like a respectable representative of your nation, we may even have a counterpoint to the numerous concerns that have been raised."

He shrugged. "Until then, I see no evidence that Imitora, at any point in its history, has acted with any degree of common human decency or respect to international opinion. For too long has the Alliance harbored a dangerous terrorist state in its midst, turning a blind eye to repeated Imitoran civil liberties violations and aggressive wars of expansion." He had also recieved the basic training from one of his assistants - who was tragically absent today. Still, considering the normal good-nature of ANH debates, he hadn't seen the need to whisk secret messages back and forth.

All right, Alexander - you can do this he told himself, pushing the button for Jamie's consol. Now all I have to do is type it and hit 'send', he remembered, staring at the keyboard. Sir Talfryn was obviously uncomfortable, as the indirect nature of most of what he said made apparent. Walmington's official stance on Imitora was unclear. Sir Talfryn himself was somewhat afraid of them, the SOW was in two minds, one demanding they be kept on-side, the other that they be distanced so far as possible from Walmington, and the public were still struggling to accept what they were being told of the matter.

Suddenly the great doors burst open and there was Roberto, worn from flying to Agrigento and back again. He wasn't alone. With him was Vice President Maria Sosetto, and enough authority to regain control of the Agrigentian Delegation.

"Sen. Testardo, good to see you", said Maria. She was a strong willed woman, and for good reason. It is not easy being the first female vice president of a very patriarchal country.

"Vice President! I did not expect you to come here. I was just going to.....", he started.

"Thank you for delegating in our absence.", she interupted and then gestured towards an empty chair. He slowly walked to it and sat down. "Now I believe we have some business to attend to, Mr. DiPartenza please take over. If you need me I will be discussing somethings with Bruno over there. With a nod she left the group.

Roberto, turning his attention to the group of onlooking delegates.

(So, what's the story on this one?)

Lord Laughlin rose amongst the eerie quiet that had fallen over the debate chambers and coughed into his hand slightly. "Mr. Chairman, may I have the floor?"

"yes, the chair recognizes Lord Laughlin."

(borged? Like...borged in the way I'm thinking of it?)

"Two things, Mr. Chairman. First, I would like to propose a momument to the Daezemani people, to be built with Alliance funds - each member granting proportional to their votes - and at the location of Mrs. Katherine Williams' chosing. Designs can be reviewed by a board of one expert from each nation." He paused. "Do I have a second?"

Sir Talfryn Cheeseman piped up "Aye, second!". He felt like he was getting the hang of this at last!

It was definitely the tea..

(ooc:And better yet, another internal error! Yay! I'll just be shuffling out before I cry. Will try to catch up later (not wanting to slow things down, I think you can estimate Walmington's response to most motions if needs be ;) ))

(Weeeeell...maybe one last round ;) I really should get some sleep.)

"Secondly," the Lord nodded, "I should like to propose an ammendment to the Charter: Section III, SubSection D, Paragraph 2, Line iiiiii (or vi, even ;)): "No Alliance member shall at any time make war or otherwise attack a fellow Alliance member. All international disputes that cannot be resolved by the two parties in a peaceful manner shall be taken to a meeting of the Alliance, where it will be resolved by a vote of the entire Alliance.""

Lord Laughlin removed his glasses and cleaned them. "That way, we won't need so much fancy footwork to do what we know is right."

"Aye," nodded the Lord Alexander, returning to his seat feeling very pleased. As he sat, he glanced about the room, noting the empty feeling.

"Thank you, Mr. Chairman," he said after the votes were tallied. "I return the floor."
