Vedic Mathematics offered to other Nations

We introduced this ancient system in our schools 2 years ago, and first results show a great improvement in our student’s math skills and grades.

We now offer this system free to other nations. A team of mathematics experts will be sent to your nation to help you train up teachers and rollout the Vedic System.

Overview:
Used by an ancient religion, and possibly used by our ancestors, ancient tablets were discovered 6 years ago in a remote region of western Mega Tau. Further research revealed that the religion was “Hindu”, although only a handful of people here practice it. We seeked their assistance in deciphering the Sutras.

Vedic Mathematics is based upon the understanding of Unity Consciousness, which means the utilisation of number bases that correspond to 0, 10, 100, 1000, 10000 etc, all of which add to 1.
There are 16 Sutras, or simple Sanskrit word formulas, which solve all known mathematical problems in the branches of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and calculus. They are easy to apply and easy to remember.
It is designed to assist students in calculating large numbers quickly without writing things down or using a calculator. Our student’s minds are no longer lazy, but alert and quick to problem solve thanks to this system.

A simple example is:

998 squared = 996,004

The method:

We use the Sutra “By the deficiency-by whatever the deficiency, lessen it further by that much and set up the square thereof”.

We get our answer by merely knowing how much is 1000 less 998. Knowing that the deficiency is 2, we merely lessen 998 by 2 and then we tag on the squaring unit of that 2.

998 is close to 1,000, so we say Base 1,000 and know to have 3 spaces (for zeros or digits) on the right hand side of the ( \ ).
Thus:
998 squared = 998-2 \ 2x2
= 996 \ _ _ 4
= 996 \ 004
= 996,004

There is a huge debate going on in our nation about Vedic mathematics, verses the crumbling foundations of “Western” mathematics.
Generally the theorems our students learned at school are not wrong, but clumsy.
Unfortunately, some of our die-hard senior mathematicians, in an attempt to protect the crumbling foundations that they now stand on, feel threatened by the lightning-quick mental calculations of Vedic math and go on to great lengths to deride Vedic maths as a “bag of tricks”.

Fascinating... I think we'd be interested in rolling out a pilot project in a few of our schools.

OOC: That's a spiffy trick. :) But use a backslash instead of a forward slash... the forward slash is associated with division, which makes things a tad confusing.

Lady Sirithil nos Fëanor, we will send a team to implement the roll-out of the pilot project. We think testing on a few schools to start with is a good strategy.
Our scholar's confidence has improved a great deal since they've mastered the method.

(OOC: thanks for the backslash tip)

Another Sutra: "By One More Than The One Before", will help your student quickly square numbers ending in 25, in their heads ('By' means multiply by):

25 squared

2 \ 5

What is more than 2? It is 3. So 2 "by" 3 = 6

We tag on the last digit '5' squared:

= 6 \ 5 x 5

= 6 \ 25

= 625

the sum always ends in 25.

Very interesting. You are more then welcome to trail this methods in our schools. You will note that even our die hard mathmetician's are keen on finding out new things.

William, good to hear your mathematicians are more open-minded than some of our die-hards.
We have sent a team to Diablo_NL to setup the Vedic math trials in your schools, we're confident it will benefit the students in a positive way.

The MT Government expresses it's surprise at such a display of apathy by nations towards mathematics and education.

It appears Menelmacar and Diablo_NL are the only forward thinking, progressive nations around.

OOC: Sorry I must have missed this.

IC: Being a nation of scientists and thinkers we would be overjoyed and honored to have you send people to teach this to us. They will be treated as honored guests and we will pay for their time and travel.

By the order of Professor Lossa, Chief Engineer Jouuha, and Emperor Gorrm himself, we would like to see how your Vedic Mathematical System would fare in our Empire's preparatory schools. Should results prove fruitful, it will be adopted Empire-wide.

Celeborne and Sakkra, a Vedic Mathematics Team is on their way to each of your nations to train up teachers and implement the system.
Both your Governments have made a wise decision to trial this mathematical system.
Thanks for offering to pay for our team's costs Celeborne, very kind of you.

OOC: I saw this when you first posted it but I didn't have time to ask for it then...

IC: The government of Western Asia would like to express its gratitude to the government of Mega Tau for this kind offer.

We will consider employing this system of calculations in our schools but we will first be introducing in a college-level environment until the system can be adapted into the current mathematics curriculum for our schools.

You're most welcome Western Asia. A small team is on it's way to help you with the roll-out in your college system. They will also be available to assist with the integration into your school's curriculum at a later stage.

Don't blame you. We should have got this method to you earlier!
A Vedic Team will arrive in Imitora soon to start the training, hope it changes your opinion of the subject a little

More Vedic Mathematics for those interested:

"All from 9 and the last from 10"

This always works for subtractions from numbers consisting of a 1 followed by noughts: 100; 1000; 10,000 etc.

For example 1000 - 357 = 643

We simply take each figure in 357 from 9 and the last figure from 10.

3 from 9 = 6
5 from 9 = 4
7 from 10=3

Therefore the answer is 643.
