I think the USA has 1% of the population or soemthing in the military in the Cold War.

And about the navy, his landscape is essentially half landlocked.

Through the Al Anbari consulate in Al Khals, or Al Khali consulate in Al Anbar- (whichever may exist..)

Salutations from Via'di'arl! The republic (though we have "arms manufacturing and arms manufacturing" listed as national industries) wishes to express on behalf of the Guards an interest in acquiring a number of T-98 "Saddam Hussein" Tanks to spearhead armoured units.

Though sketchy reports thus far received suggest that Al Anbar may be unable to export significant armaments in light of her present or at least recent embattlement, it should not hurt to convey our interest. Tanks or no tanks, it is good to make a friend, or indeed a profitable rivalry.

Whatever the situation, Al Khals expresses her respect for the formidable Al Anbari defence forces.

Explanation of Al Anbar's Armed Forces

Regular Army

Al Anbar's regular army is a totally conscripted force. All males at the age of eighteen (18) must join the army, unless they have also been accepted into higher education, have a disability, or are given a waiver from the Ministry of Defense for some reason. Service is open to Iraqis and Syrians only.

Regular army receives less training and the worst equipment of all branches of the armed forces. Men stay in the army for three years, women may join the army voluntarily, and are not conscripted. Can also choose to re-enlist after three years for two year terms. After discharge, you are a reservist for four years.

Quality of the army varies distincitly from unit to unit. Mostly made up of Kurds and Shi'ites.

People's Army

Anyone may join this army, at any age, as long as they believe in the Ba'athist ideals and are a member of the Ba'ath Party in good standing. It is a paramilitary militia and members goes for training one weekend a month for one year.

Republican Guard

The Republican Guard is highly trained and equipped with the best weaponry. They make up a large part of the armed forces. Republican Guard service is voluntary. Soldiers come from the loyal tribes around Tikrit and Samarra in the Iraqi Governorate. Only those from the loyal tribes are given a choice in what service to join. They may pick from the Republican Guard, Army, or the Fedayeen Saddam.

They serve for four years and may re-enlist. Mostly made out of volunteers, although when the Republican Guard is running low on soldiers they may conscript those from loyal tribes, without allowing them to go to any of the other branches of service. Reservist 8 years.

Highly trained in urban fighting.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/38153000/jpg/_38153911_saddam2150.jpg

Special Republican Guard

Best trained, equipped, and devoted to the government of Saddam Hussein. The SRG is made up of 60,000 men divided into 12 brigades with varying functions such as a tank brigade, mechanized brigade, antiaircraft brigade, etc. Based around Tikrit, Samarra, and inside the centre of Baghdad.

Are made up 100% from loyal tribes. Serves for 5 years with a reservist period of 10 years, may re-enlist.

Highly trained in guerilla and urban fighting.

Fedayeen Saddam

Equipped with light weaponry, transported by trucks, SUVs, and other fast vehicles. Fedayeen Saddam is made up from loyal tribes and allows anyone worldwide that is committed to the Ba'athist cause to join, after an evaluation period.

Has two seperate brigades: Suicide and regular fighting. Those willing to do suicide attacks wear white uniforms, those that are willing to just gunfight wear black uniforms.

Highly trained in guerilla tactics.

Must stay for atleast one year.

Okay, i've been trying to mass an army, and i can't really think of how you guys do it could you sent me a telegram explaining this. My military will be all males 18 or older. Kids start boot at age of 6. Women are defenders and the back bone of my nation. I'm trying to mimic the Spartan way of life, with added in Israel where everyone is part of the military

What ever happened to the war in Al Anbar, anyways? Right now, I havent heard from either you or Tersanctus/Drakonian Imperium as to what ended up finishing it....
Chimaea
10-02-2004, 07:23
How do you pay for all of that? Besides, Al Anbar won the war on Iraq in 2003; but the sanctions would have continued, as well as the fact that what little Air Force Iraq had woulda been destroyed in the Gulf War.

Your history irks me x_x
Western Asia
10-02-2004, 07:32
I like how you more than quintupled the strength of your navy without any RP'd update programs from 6 small vessels to a wide mix of vessels...the addition of thousands of armored vehicles is also interesting.

As Chimaea notes, you have an 'interesting' view on the ability of Al Anbar to arm itself, considering an almost universal lack of self-production capabilities of large weapons in Iraq on any significant scale...this should be interesting.
11-02-2004, 00:34
There are several reasons for this.

1) I am not constricted to what has happened in real life.
2) Read my "Al Anbar History" or some such thread where I explain about the sanctions.
3) Much of the naval vessels are from the Syrian navy, and since Al Anbar = Iraq & Syria, this is perfectly good.
4) I make tanks and other armored vehicles. Deal with it.
5) Time advances faster than in real life.
Western Asia
12-02-2004, 09:18
1) Then neither is anyone else...so Al Anbar would have no claims to any territory that is part of Iraq nor should it have any interests in such specific lands.

2) I don't know where it is...so I can't account for it. Sanctions wouldn't just disappear.but then again, neither would 1st World armies who are attacking under equipped and relatively primitive, if large, armies of a 3rd World nation

3) Okay...they weren't there before, still.

4) Okay...that's a nice hope for Iraq, too bad about the lack of an established and broad intellectual class to support such an industry...not to mention a history of being able to reliably manufacture any advanced tech...but I won't press the point if you don't press your points where you try to pin people to RL limitations and realities...I guess that never stopped you from claiming that the Kurds and Shiites somehow love Saddam.

5) I know that, already, thanks...no significance.
