Executive
The executive power in the Drakonian Imperium is shared broadly between the Praetorship and the Senate. Lower authority and decision-making as well as the bulk of the day-to-day rulings are left to the Senate and lower Parliaments, while the Praetor reserves the right to make those decisions he or she deems appropriate.

The true power in the Imperium is in it’s Head of State, the Praetor or his Queen, this authority is handed down by the previous Praetor or Queen to those of his or her choosing. Although, traditionally this responsibility is given to their offspring, Drakonians are known to break tradition and the traditional transfer of power has been broken several times in history. The title of the Praetorship is based on gender.

If the next ruler of the Imperium is male he is titled, Praetor; if she is female she is called Queen. This has been passed down from the establishment of the Imperium when the Praetor of the Drako City States and the Queen of Trinidad were joined in marriage. Because of the joining of power, which created the Imperium the authority of the Praetorship is usually shared between the current ruler and his or her spouse.

The Praetorship is held in check by a three-fourth-majority vote of the Senate. This can then be overruled by an appeal vote of two-thirds majority. These case still rarely happen and are merely in place to stop the powers of a corrupt and dictatorial ruler.

Legislative
The Senate and the underbody Parliaments hold legislative authority in Drakonia.

Judicial
Justice in the Imperium has been established in the form of a multilevel court system. The Upper ring of the Drakonian Department of Justice is the Supreme Court in Drako Throne. Realm Courts make up the next lower rung being set up in each Realm Capitol. From there, there are Courts set up in each Drakonian city over the size of 10,000 people. Unsettled cases are differed up to that Realm’s Court, which if still disputed is sent up to the Supreme Court in Drako Throne.

History of the Imperium: Editing in Progress!

Before the Imperium

In the time before the formation of the Drakonian Imperium, the mainland, which would become the Imperium, was controlled by several groups. The foremost of them were the Golan, these tribes raided and terrorized the eastern Drako city states and the Cherokee native tribes. This continued until a combined army defeated the Golan Tribes and drove them deep into the western Golanus Mountains.

The Four Dynasties

Formed centuries ago, the Dominion of Drakonian Imperium was created when the Drako city states and the Trinidadian Monarchy united with the marriage of Thomas Drake (ruler of the Drako city states) and Jolené Sutherland (Queen of Trinidad). The alliance was strengthened, a few years later, by the admission island nations of Tobago and then by the advanced native Cherokee tribe. The Drako dynasty which was the primary factor in the forming of the Imperium was able to lead the Dominion as Praetor for several centuries. The Drako leadership was some of the greatest in the history of the region. It is said, that as the Imperium pushed out, under the leadership of the later Drake Family Praetors it battled the nearby Golan Tribes and pushed them further back into the Golanus Mountains.

When the last Drake died of a horrible disease childless, his honorable chief advisor Hadrian Zues took charge of the Praetorship; thus started the Second Dynasty (sometimes called the Zues Dynasty) which last for another several centuries and was punctuated by a new age of wisdom. This Dynasty ended when Alexis Zues married Proximus Sutherland. As the Zues Dynasty progressed it found itself with a problem, the expansion of Drakonia brought the Imperium near to the Sanctus Empire. Several small wars were fought as the Zues Families hold over the Imperium ended.

With the union of Proximus Sutherland (a descendant of the brother of Jolené Sutherland) and Alexis Zues, the longest Drakonian Dynasty began: the Third Dynasty (also known as the Sutherland Dynasty). This Dynasty lasted for many centuries and during it a great renaissance and Pax Drakonia periods of Drakonian history. Surprising during the entire reign of the Sutherland Family there was no conflict with the Sanctus Empire, but that changed suddenly with the end of the Third Dynasty.

But it was with the marriage of Athena Sutherland and the great Caesar Drake (heir of the first Drako Dynasty), the Fourth Dynasty (sometimes referred to as the Second Drako Dynasty) started. It is this Dynasty, which the current Praetor, Augustus Drake, that the Dominion of Drakonian Imperium prospers. Although, it did not start out as such, war with the Sanctus Empire had soon, again, broken out with the crowning of Caesar Drake and then again with his son.

Drako Civil War

During the Fourth Dynasty, the great great great grandson of Caesar Drake, one John Drake, who is recorded as a fool, ran the government as his personal dictatorship. He is recorded as having hidden away great fortunes and ruined much of the growing industrial Drakonian economy.

A rebellion in the western Golanus Mountains of the Golan tribes was left alone without the involvement of Drako troops and although the Drako government never acknowledged the rebels freedom they were left to rule their own nation. This greatly angered the brother of John Drake, William. Returning from a long expedition of exploration and diplomacy from Oregia and Australius, William led a long and bloody civil war which ended with angry Drakonians killing John Drake in cold blood.

But with William fully in power the Drakonian Imperium was left only to rebuild itself and was too weak to bring the Golan tribes back under its rule. It was left to William’s ancestors and likely his grandson and heir, Augustus to bring the rebellious region of Shinzo Golanus back into the Imperium.

Tersanctus War

In the latter days, of the rule of William Drake, Drakonia’s neighbor and longtime enemy again geared for war against the weakened Imperium. Still rebuilding after the devastating rule of John Drake and the Drako Civil War, the Imperium could not field the vast conscripted army of the Sanctus Empire.

The Imperial troops fought valiantly, but were pushed back. Mercenaries from the Golan Tribes quickly joined the Sanctus Imperial Army further stacking the odds against the overwhelmed and under equipped Drakonian Troops. While the Imperial Navy was able to score victories against the Sanctus Imperial Navy and shipping, but it was too little, too late; the Imperium was failing.

With all near lost and it looking as though the Imperium would fall to the invasion of the Sanctus Empire, the Praetor hatched a plot to lead a rebellion of the oppressed peoples of that Empire.

The Heir to the Praetorship

Grandson of the famed William Drake, Augustus Drake was prepared from birth to one day be the next Praetor.
