ARIDDIA'S TEAM

***** = a player who has been in the team since WC3
**** = a player who has been in the team since WC4
*** = a player who has been in the team since WC5
** = a player who has been in the team since WC6
* = a player who has been in the team since WC7

Ariddia's colours:
Home: red top with a black slash going from the left shoulder to the right hip, and the same on the back.
Shorts are entirely black. Socks are red. We have declined to have sponsors mucking up our suits.

Away: the exact reverse. Black top, red slash, red shorts, black socks.

Goalkeeper: Dark green top, with the same black slash. Pale, apple-green shorts. Black socks.

Although the team seemed to have found a solid lineup in the last Cup, a few players have left and have had to be replaced. Forward player Kim Kim is now also the team’s third goalkeeper. And Myrtille Ford is currently pregnant, expecting her second child, and thus unable to play.

GK: David al-Jibai (11)***
DEF: Jean Cerf (4)****, John Ness (13)****, Jon Quinez (16)***, Samuel Wood (17)***
MID: Ranjit Khan (7, capt)*****, Andrei Karel (15)***, Mikael Nyevich (19)***, Luc N’tula (12)**
ATT: Raphael Ford (2)****, Kim Kim (10)**

Substitutes:
GK: Quentin Grey (23)**, Kim Kim (10)**
DEF: Yves Sylvain (9)**, Wn Wahd (20)*, Wesley Davidson (1), Jean-François Cocher (21)
MID: Samuel Pasteur (8 )**, Kazushi Tomson (5), Victor Menuisier (14), Karim Li (18 )
ATT: Myn Terrell (3)***, Yte Nyussun (6)

Raphael Ford
Number: 2
Position: Forward
First joined: World Cup 4

Ford will have to play this Cup without his wife, but will team up with another forward player who has more than proved her worth, Kim Kim. Again, the forward players will be the backbone of Ariddia’s team.

Ford is in his mid thirties, his hair colour somewhere between blond and brown. His eyes are green.

Ranjit Khan
Number: 7
Position: Mid, Captain
First joined: World Cup 3

Khan, the team’s captain, has proved his proficiency in a variety of abilities, able to press forward attacks or defend. He’s grown to be a favourite with supporters through his solid good playing, seeming to be omnipresent in the pitch.

Khan's skin is brown. He's in his late thirties. He wears startling bright green eye lenses, and supporters in the stadium can often be seen wearing similar ones.

Kim Kim
Number: 10
Position: Forward
First joined: World Cup 6

Kim proved to be a highly efficient, not to mention enthusiastic forward player.

Now in her mid-twenties, this small, dark-haired, dark-eyed Oriental girl is no longer the youngest player in the team, but is still viewed by many as the energetic wonder-kid.

David al-Jibai
Number: 11
Position: Goalkeeper
First joined: World Cup 5

al-Jibai’s skill has grown over the past Cups, allowing Ariddia to better its goal differences, and is a solid asset to the team.

al-Jibai is in his early thirties, and is a rather tall, skinny man of Arab origins. He keeps his dark hair quite long, reaching down to his shoulders. His eyes are brown.

Oglethorpian historians have said this is a talented team, though their preformance in the Cup is 'unpredictable.' Still, even if they fail miserably, it'll still be a sight to see a team playing a 1900s version of the game along with modern teams in the Cup.

Team Colours: Standard: Navy Blue shirt, fading into a crimson red which is just visible at the bottom of the shirt, usually barely seen due to the shirt being tucked in. Navy blue shorts and Navy blue socks complete the standard uniform. White lettering and numbering complete the ensemble.

If there is a kit conflict, Nikea's alternate jersey's are white with navy blue trim, with white shorts and white socks, with a single navy blue stripe circling the sock near the top. Lettering and numbers are navy blue.

Goalkeepers wear a black jersey with a solid black stripe down the sleeves, with black numbers and lettering.

Total Record in International Play: 2 wins, 1 draw, 7 losses

(Excerpt courtesy of Queldas Hikari (Queldas Star, reporter Markenin Markenel)

After a somewhat expected showing in the World Cup Seven qualifiers, the Dominion of Nikea's second dash into the international football fray comes with the return of many of the players from World Cup 7. The team is now older and a little wiser, and few changes have been made to the starting lineup.

On the bench, Resterin Terestel has returned to manage the team once again. While no longer manager for any of the club sides, he has committed himself fully to the national team and hopes to make a greater impression this time around.

Jesterin Resteritel again returns to the lineup in the goalkeeping position, as he has proven to stuff of legends in the club league, leading Queldas to a strong 2nd place finish this year. He had a rather good showing in the World Cup Seven Qualifiers, leading a strong defensive core that surprised many.

On defense, two of the three defenders from World Cup Seven have retired, but their two replacements, Nerenin Istel and Aleksi Strekiov have stepped up their play considerably, and have moved off the substitute bench to a starting spot. They look to continue Nikea's strong defensive play in the World Cup 8 Qualifying Rounds.

Kerenin Keresiuene once again leads the five man midfield squad for Nikea, who have two new faces from their last World Cup appearance, Merin Kerestitel and Kalinin Kerstel, who are young, quick, and offensive, adding a punch to the two striker system Terestel employs. The midfield is quick, agile, and can fill any holes very quickly.

Up front, I&I return once again, having grown up a bit since their last appearance. Istertel is now 24, and has more of a head on his shoulders, putting more thought into his plays, and having a very tricky left-footed strike. Irisiuene, now 23, still has his lightning speed, but also knows when to tone down the speed in favour of creating plays which have a higher probability of success.

All in all, Nikea looks to improve over its 2-1-7 performance last time. With solid defense, a quick midfield, and forwards who have a bit more experience, they look poised to certainly improve on that mark, which is the goal set forth by Manager Terestel.

Giant Zucchini National Flag on left chest

Starting 11:
Goalkeeper:
1-Oog (Prehistoric F.C.)
One of our most dependable players in the squad. Has incredible reach, has the ability to cover any inch of the goal in one dive. Rarely lets in any goals. Suffers from the occasional lapse of concentration.

Defenders:
2-Aargh (Prehistoric F.C.)
A solid right back who tackles with no fear. Has a danger of getting fouled.

3-Humm (Prehistoric F.C.)
A very solid centre back who will not let anybody past him without a good challenge. Another player who has a danger of getting fouled.

4-Quk (Rentruk Rovers)
A good clearer of the ball who makes runs up the field occasionally. His tackles are not as hard as Humm's or Aargh's, but he has the ability to clear the ball very quickly to the forwards.

5-Thunk (Earl United)
A solid left back with a fierce tackle. Plays the passing game well with Krak and Gung.

Midfielders:
7-Kerrnigit (Marauding F.C.)
A quality right winger who can cross with accuracy, dribble with tight control over the ball, and shoot with a deadly curl. Our default free kick taker.

6-Poom (Marauding F.C.)
A centre midfielder with a good eye for passes. His ball control, although not as good as Kerrnigit, can still thread him past defenders. He also has an accurate shot, but it occasionally lacks power.

8-Krak (Earl United)
A centre midfielder with a good pass. Has great interplay with Gung and Thunk.

9-Gung (Earl United)
A left midfielder who makes the occasional run forward. Exhibits great passing with Krak and Thunk. His shots occasionally lack power.

Forwards:
10-Urk (Marauding F.C.) - Captain
Without doubt our best striker in the team. Has brilliant ball control and a devastating shot. However, his best weapon is his versatility. Can beat the keeper from way out, produce a breathtaking curler around the keeper, or simply dribble into the box and lob the ball over the keeper. Occasionally plagued with injury problems.

11-Phoot (Prehistoric F.C.)
A striker with good ball control and no fear of defenders. Has the ability to dribble the length of the field without losing the ball. Can also finish headers well. However, his shots occasionally lack accuracy and power.

Subs:
12-Zonk (Marauding F.C.) - Forward
A striker who has yet to prove himself. Has passion for the sport, but slightly lacking in ability. Has decent ball control, but his shots lack accuracy and power.

13-Narf (Bill United) - Midfielder
A stable midfielder. Has good passing abilities. However, slightly lacking in fitness.

14-Throck (Prehistoric F.C.) - Defender
A stable defender. Usually subbed on when a more defensive style of play is called for. Has a good tackle and a good clearance.

15-Ppakkaddumm (Wurtherington Wanderers) - Midfielder/Forward
An attack minded midfielder who can also play upfront. Has a decent shot. However, slightly lacking in ball control.

16-Machterstrassefurtermorgannachttunggutsprechenbuchlungweighetvolkshvargenshtickshnoff (Dankeschoen F.C.) - Midfielder
A midfielder with a long name. Known to be able to inject flair into a game. Fairly comfortable over the ball. However, his passes lack accuracy and his shots are weak and inaccurate. Also lacking in fitness.

Reserves:
17-Furtermachtermorgstrasluwecragnavonchelsenntungkshvaghugtihetesprishtengckshnoff (Dankeschoen F.C.) - Forward
Machterstrassefurtermorgannachttunggutsprechenbuchlungweighetvolkshvargenshtickshnoff's compatriate in Dankeschoen F.C.. Has blistering pace and an accurate shot. However, he is low on fitness and ball control, his shots lack power, and he has a dreadful first touch of the ball.

18-Faard (Westinghouse-Armature F.C.) - Defender
Has good fitness, quick pace, strong in the air, and tackles hard. However, has poor control over the ball and a horrible shot. Most importantly, his passes are usually errant, which may provide chances for the opponents.

19-Shtaan (Simoleons United) - Forward
A striker with a wicked shot. Despite its speed and power, his shots are very inaccurate, and he usually ends his season with only about 10% of his shots on target. Has good ball control and passing, but lacks stamina and pace.

20-Plaat (Marauding F.C.) - Goalkeeper
Widely seen as the successor to Oog. Is very alert and anticipates rather well. However, he is rather small and his reach is limited. Prone to committing the occassional slip-up.

21-Xcavabar (Atlantis F.C.) - Forward
Plying his trade in Europa Brittania, this forward is strong testament to the strength of Giant Zucchini. An all out charging type striker, has brilliant speed as well as a great position and finishing sense. However, may be slightly lacking in experience and fitness. His long range shots also lack power.

22-Zurk (Wonkerman Wanderers) - Defender
Lately deported back from TnUI, this defender combines defensive grit with attacking flair. A young talent who shows great promise.

Bedistan's WC8 roster will be announced after the conclusion of the team's involvement in WC7, which has lasted far longer than ever before.

WC6 took much longer: 14 qualifying rounds plus 3 special qualifying rounds plus interminable delays.

True. However, here I refer to game time, not real time, and the fact that while the team was stopped in the first round previously, they got all the way to the third-place match this time. :P

Look for the Lions WC8 roster in this thread's second post! Coming within an hour.

This will be made more in Depth Later:
FYI-I've never been in a WC before so cut me some slack---
(in here keyshona had the national roster, and other info)

1. Your roster is fine - way better than those who don't bother to post one. No slack needed here.
2. World Cups are mostly RP. The hosts will set up groups for the qualifying round, and then matches. They will determine the results of each match using a tried and tinkered with formula. They will either TG them to participants, wait for RPs, and then post them - or post them, and RPs follow - that's at the hosts discretion.
3. RP - Anything that's related to the football match, the tournament, or stuff that comes up during the tournament RPs - read WC7 for stuff about evisceratomatos for example.
4. Good natured banter, teasing, etc is not only acceptable, we kind of expect it. Bad natured stuff - not here, please
5. Have fun.
6. Everyone kind of helps each other as we go.
7. The World Cup Committee (consisting of previous hosts) sets the rules, what there are of them, etc. Everyone gets to suggest, they get to vote.

Quohog
25-09-2003, 01:52
Quohog's uniform is a black and forest green horizontally stripped shirt, with black socks, shorts, and shoes. If there is a conflict with the home team's colors, Quohog goes with either all forest green, or all black. Quohog plays with four defenders, four mids, and two strikers. The midfield normally has a cen-forward and a cen-back, but if the team is ahead, they’ll switch to a mid-back R and mid-back L.

Although Quohog had a very disappointing WC7, the team has remained largely the same due to it’s continuing success out of the actual cup. It’s a great team, they just need to perform when it counts. In fact, the only non-returning player is Gorgidas Nemea who retired after the Cup like he had long been planning too. Even though the team did so poorly under his captaincy, the country was sad to see him go and he was treated to a heroes return. The rest of the team didn’t fare so well and are out to redeem themselves. We’ll do this by the players ages:

1) Kurt Adenauer (31 years, Captain, sweeper, male) Lauren Silko knew that World Cup V would be her last, so she searched out Adenauer as a worthy replacement and had him added to the team as a sub. Her decision has paid off. He’s probably the most athletically gifted member of the team, and he has also become one of the most skilled. I think that it is fair to say that he is the best player in his generation, and might go down as the best of all time in Quohog football history. The defense has become much stronger thanks to his direction, and is perhaps our greatest strength. With Brianna Laverock being the surprise decision as captain’s assistant after she blossomed in WC7, the defense is probably the best it has ever been.

2) Martine Masseret (29 years, striker-R, female) Masseret has continuously proven that her skills are formidable, and that to underestimate her is to invite defeat. Her greatest strength is an ability to read defenses. Although she has fancy footwork for when it is necessary, her speed and complete control over the ball are more often used than anything flashy.

3) Cri Sawyes (28 years, mid-cen-back, male) Sawyes and Gamble are probably more associated with each other than any other two players on the team. They play with a very similar style, and often seem to think with a single mind..

4) Andrew Gamble (28 years, mid-cen-forward, male) A great friend of Sawyes, Gamble has a playing style which is almost the same, with the only difference being that he is slightly more offensive minded. When the team is up, he goes back and plays mid-R-back with Sawyes at mid-L-back. The only thing that remains to be seen about Gamble and Sawyes is how they will play with Nemea gone. Although Maeve Laverock has shown some glimpses of brilliance, she still needs some work. So these two veterans will probably shoulder the majority of the mid-field burden.

5) Juan Mysh (27 years, def-L, male) Yet another member of this team selected by Silko who is more than he seems to be. While he would probably be classified as a solid core player, Mysh has proven to be amazingly versatile. Oftentimes, Mysh will take it up the field and play a support role. It has been debated bringing him up to play a role in the mid-field, but it was decided that Quohog couldn’t afford to lose his skills on defense.

6) Tok Timbu (26 years, def-R, male) Timbu has the height on the team, so he’s often brought up for corners. Coupled with a solid game on defense, Tok is going to be around Quohog’s football world for a long time.

7) Nallab Armant (25 years, striker-L, male) The son of legendary Quohog player Nadir Armant, Nallab has finally found his place on the team. The nation has resigned itself to a solid, rather than extraordinary player, and this has allowed Nallab to thrive without the pressure of living up to his father‘s name. We think that he will start to do much better with the new lower expectations placed on him, and will thus surprise.

8) Victor Philibert (23 years, Goalkeep, male) Thouroughly disappointed after the ignominious defeat in the group stage of WC7, Philibert has thrown himself into practice with a will. If he manages to restrain from killing himself, he will be a solid wall in the net for Quohog.

9) Brianna Laverock (22 years, Captain’s assistant, def-cen, female) Growing up in the same town that produced Claire Brannick had a strong influence on Brianna, and after Claire retired, Brainna was picked to replace her. A very skilled player who is expected to step into the gap left in the defense. Her surprising composure on the field led Silko to name her Captain’s assistant, even though she is one of the youngest players on the team.

10) Maeve Laverock (20 years, mid-R, female) The younger sister of Brianna was chosen as a long-term investment. When her sister was being reviewed for the National Team, Maeve was noticed as well and Head Coach Silko decided that she had to be drawn in. Maeve had a difficult time in the last cup, so it will be difficult to predict how she will react to pressure this time around.

11) Valerie Zaborski (18 years, mid-L, female) Valerie was the surprise in the domestic league last year, leading her team to the Championship after 10 straight losing seasons. If she manages to play as well for the national team, Quohog should be in good shape.

Head Coach Lauren Silko
Assistant Coach Claire Brannick
Goalie Victor Philibert
Sweeper Kurt Adenauer -Captain
Def. Tok Timbu R
Def. Juan Mysh L
Def. Brianna Laverock C-Captain’s Assistant
Mid. Cri Sawyes C-back

Striker Nallab Armant L

After finishing a very disappointing 26th in World Cup 7 while ranked number 1 in the world, the team feels that it has something to prove.

The Kingsford National is back, and is looking for the win! The renumbering is a big change, however the new uniforms are the biggest change this year, with the shocking new yellow taking the home color and the bright white taking the away. Kingsford goes against the traditions of football and uses the white for away simply because we can.

Lana Maelstrom returns once again as captain. Will the third time be the charm for the thirty-one-year-old Lemconder?

New to the squad this time are Goalkeeper Joe Lally, replacing Lemma Mingstein, whose effectiveness had clearly slipped the past two Cups; Glen Lembobba on defense, with Mel Harlem relegated to the bench; Yngwie Li; and in place of Mel Michaels, Lemmy Atom, the Lemvoola striker whose stardom has been threatening to unseat Malestrom's own in the Lemmitanian A-league.

We of the Empire of Warnocks Wizards are proud to announce our squad for the upcoming qualifiers for World Cup 8. As our Empire is increasingly becoming multi-cultural, featuring a wide array of humans, elves, dwarves, hobbits, orcs, and wizards, there was much (heated) debate over which language to issue our squad list in. In the end, in deference to he who founded our football federation, Sauron III the Understated Deceiver, we have decided to use the Mordor language from his homeland.

First strip: Red and white striped shirts, black shorts, black socks.
Change strip: Black shirts depicting the One Ring in gold , red shorts, red socks

As the team was rather young, only one replacement has occurred this year, the substitution of Michael Maule for April Schauer at midfield. The biggest surprise is once again the return of Zhen Sui-Ling, now the oldest human player on the circuit.

[* - returning from WC7]
The starting lineup for the CH Bulldogs hasn't changed since last Cup, since all realized that their 3 wins and 15 goals were worth the new world ranking:
Goalkeeper: Dirk Vojtilo* (01)
Defenders: John Gonzales* (10), Dave Field* (11), Tony Medeiros* (12)
Midfielders: Darryl Kakuta* (20), Ede Burns* (21), Maxwell Paritmongkol* (22), Jerry Cahalane* (23), Cory Romanowski* (24)
Forwards: Kevin Decker* (30), Billy Quigley* (31)

Most of the backups, however, got sick of the sport and left - the few who are still around are the most likely to be put in the game, for fear of them leaving the squad :P
Goalkeeper: Alvaro Yago (02)
Defenders: Paul McCormick* (13), Anthony McAdams (14), Hamagami Barthelet (15)
Midfielders: Farhan Wallace* (25), Sean Cox* (26), Sinjin Gils-Carbo (27), Mateus Quoted (28 ), Simon Bradshaw (29)
Forwards: Michael McCormick (32), Todd Kauker (33)
Forwards: Marc McCarthy, Luke Schmidt
Bedistan

Here are Bedistan's team uniforms:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/h/a/harleyt_1387/wc8_uniforms.png

Each player's shirt has anywhere from 6 to 13 stars on it. They represent the following:

White stars - one for each Cup the player has participated in; they appear on front and back just below the collar

Red stars - indicate a starting player; four total, one on each sleeve front and back

Yellow stars - indicate a non-starter; four total, one on each sleeve front and back

Gold star - indicates that the player has been part of an all-World Cup team. Only Olivia Bream, #23, has this distinction, as Gene Barber retired. It appears on the front just above the player number.

Also note that these uniforms were created (ICly) before the knowledge that Oglethorpia and Bedistan would be co-hosting. Depending on where the particular group stage and subsequent matches take place, either version may not be used.

Tanah Burung

With the departure of coach Guntur Ruak to coach the giant evil spiders of Tanah Tarantula, the Crocodiles are being coached by Ab Francisco, Tanah Burung's leading scorer in World Cup 2, 3 and 4, advised by a committee of religious scholars. The starting line-up is unchanged from the last Cup. "Yes, it was a poor outing for the Crocs," Francisco said, "but that's only becuase they were hamstrung by the Curse of Lemmington. I'm confident the same team will do great once they play in any other locale." The religious scholars will be holding prayer meetings in a num,ber of different faiths this tourney. Reserves will be announced later.

Crocodiles uniforms are red, yellow and black in a scoopneck pattern, replicating the national flag. Shorts and socks are also red. When these colours conflict with the other team, the Crocs wear an all-green kit. The Crocs do not have any sponsorship sullying the purity of their outfits.

MOZ, the team captain and national darling, has announced that this will be her last world cup. She is somewhat emotionally distraught over the Gil scandal and hopes for her fans' sake that it will not affect her play in her farewell tournament. This is her younger sister's first tournament. They are easy to differentiate in that MOZ is almost a full foot taller than her sister, L. Moz.
