”Are those scars?” The General first thought as he met eye to eye with the infamous smuggler. Obviously, these two were meeting in secret. Both men were tall and dashing (6’3”) and both were young and muscular. Surprisingly, both had white hair, although Warheit didn’t know if the smuggler’s hair was naturally white like his own. “What’s the word on the street?”
“Alcohol is still pricy…and still the major import,” the smuggler said, shaking his head. He smiled. “There are others though.”
“Anyway we can lower that?” Warheit asked.
“Not my job, general,” the smuggler said with a smirk. Warheit nodded.
Smugglers always have been a major problem within the Steel Empire. Now, with the spread out space of the Orion Sector, it was even easier to illegally transport goods and materials. Warheit, the commanding general of the space fleet and marines, was assigned to track down these smugglers to keep the amazing Steel Butterfly economy in tact. He was not about to fail.
“Co-ordinates?” Warheit asked. The smuggler handed him an electronic notepad.
“Times, dates, goods, quantities…everything,” the smuggler added.
The smuggler, Cedric Thrash, had realized some time earlier the tighter restrictions due to the promotion of General Warheit to the Fleet Command position. He came to the general and worked out a deal. In exchange for turning in other smugglers, he would be able to continue to smuggle goods and materials unharmed and would receive a hefty sum of money. Warheit gave Thrash the credits due and the smuggler strolled out of the office. The general was making him a wealthy man.
