“Jennifer Government: NationStates is a nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own political ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.” From the nationstates home page
As the above tells you, you make a simulated nation and make it to your own political ideals, but it is not that simple. You have what are known as “issues”, “An example of an issue is “

Bob the 3ed Decides:
Social Inequality Reaching Embarrassing Levels
The Issue
Commentators have warned that Bob the 3ed's social inequalities threaten to make it an international pariah.
The Debate
1. "Look, I don't like it either," said Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Thomas Thiesen. "Just on the way here, I had to step over three homeless people, and one of my shoes got caught on a beggar. But inequality is the price we pay for economic strength. If anything, we need fewer taxes, so those of us who are well-off can afford to be more generous. If we want to, that is."
[Accept]
2. "I think we've forgotten what economic strength is all about," says social worker Zeke McGuffin. "The economy is meant to be a means to a high standard of living, not an end in itself. It's become an excuse for the rich to prosper while the poor fall through the cracks. Not everyone is poor because they don't feel like working. We must provide more welfare."
[Accept]
3. "Who says we're an international pariah?" demands military honcho Randy Winters. "What are their names? If that's the way the international community feels, we obviously need to prepare for war."
[Accept]
The Government Position
The government has yet to formalize a position on this issue.
If you wish, you may simply dismiss this issue.” This is an unaddressed issue.”
When you “accept” or “dismiss” an issue, it will update your nation in approximately 12 hours. Dismissing will make the issue have no effect on your nation. These make the nation “you” and change your “Civil Rights”, “Economy”, and/or “Political Freedoms”. In the example nation

You can start by talking about the forum and how it involves a lot of debate (and flaming). Also, use some of the issues as examples and such. Just, what the game is about and such.

Well, NS exposes one to various political ideologies and can teach a lot about RL economics (in RPs and arguments about how to do things)...and I've actually learned a thing or two in relation to various sciences...
Soviet Democracy

It does give a broad amount of political views and such, which could be stated. You have everyone from Anarcho-Communist to Fascist National Socialists, Christians to Satanists.

The Dictatorship of Bob the 3ed
UN Category: Corporate Police State

This will be shown on the nation’s “nation page”. A nation’s “nation page” has three paragraphs, the example nation’s “nation page” is:
The Dictatorship of Bob the 3ed is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.4 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Social Welfare and Education receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 44%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Uranium Mining.
The government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, the institution of marriage is held sacred and strictly enforced, political activists are routinely executed, and military spending recently hit a new high. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Bob the 3ed's national animal is the emu, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the dime.

How long is the paper - 1 page, 5 pages, or longer? High school paper or university. It looks to me like you are depending way too much on quotes from the game. I have taught essay writing and did a poly scie/IR degree, and can tell you overdependence on outside sources is bad, bad, bad.

Reviewing what you have written, I see only two original sentences. Don*t quote whole issues and your national front page. Summarize the whole issue thing in one to three sentences, and tell us what the front page contains in about the same space.

My suggestion is to first get down what idea you want to *sell*. Maybe something like *NationStates is a good educational tool for reasons X, Y, and Z.* Next, section it into three parts for each of the reasons. Or maybe this: *NationStates offers three valuable educational tools.* outlined the same way as above.

If you are looking for someone to tell you 3 reasons why NationStates is a valuable educational tool, there are several suggestions above.

Yeah.

Things you could mention:

1. Educates the player on socio-economic realities through constructive debate, unlike the stratified authoritarian regimentation of school systems.

2. Encourages the ability to write prose in a competent manner and develop interesting plots and devices of fiction. Also helps develops the ability to create convincing characterisations.

3. Encourages the ability to engage in diplomatic communication in order to defuse a conflict situation.

4. Fosters a sense of curiosity in modern science (You've got to know the stuff to RP some things correctly)

5. Encourages creative thinking in the conceptualization of an entire nation, from the personalities of members of government to the structure and operation of government and so on.
