Concerning Military action
The UTP is a Trade pact, and is not designed to be a political body. This does not mean that political ties within the UTP have not formed, nor does this mean that the UTP has not facilitated the formation of a powerful alliance between two member states.

What this does mean, however, is that no member nation can expect military assistance from any other nation by stating that because they are both UTP members, nation B should help out nation A in War C.

The UTP's stance on military conflict is that a nation can request emergancy loans from the UTPF in the event of a conflict, and also can purchase armor, air force, space tech, etc. from other member states during said conflict.

The UTP Co-Defense Group is a selection of volunteer nations presided over by a council of four nations. Said four nations will decide if a specific trade route is endangered enough by any invasion to call for envolvement by the CDG. No motion to enter combat will pass save by a 3-4ths majority in the council.

Glory to the UTP! "United in its diversity"

Apparently we volunteered for the UTPCDG Council (the UTP Co-Defence Group) Some civil servant must have made a misstake and he did not relay it to Mr. Zalm.

However, we will gladly fulfill this function. We would like to ask the Angelus leadership however if there wille be a seperate board for the co-defence council or whether it will be handled in the "general" UTP-council thread?

Thank you very much. One of the major points behind my ascention to the position of UTP Director was to get the UTP more recognition, possibly get new members, and to expand the UTP Economic power.

I am glad to see that all of the work put into the UTP from all of the member states has at least not gone unnoticed.

Of our 1.4 billion population, less than 1% is unemployed, due to either illness or old age. Our gross profit per annum hovers near 5 octillion credits, due to the sale of industrial and military supplies, equipment and personnel to other nations.

We respectfully submit to Mr. Jay Reaven that times change. This includes the nature of alliances, pacts, and trade relationships. Does Mr. Jay Reaven believe the world to be static?

We would like to formally state that the Invasion on Melkor Unchained was not a UTP formal action. Many of the UTP Nations felt the way that the UTP leadership did about Melkor, but We would like to state for the record that not all of the nations that participated were UTP.

The UTP was never designed to be a military engine, and it is not so now. Yes, the economic engine of the UTP churned out the necessary funds for such an action, but just because loans were granted and the trade forum utilized, it does not constitute a formal stance of the UTP.

ooc: The using of the UTP Forums was done out of convenience. There are quite a few Operation St. Dominic members on the UTP Forum, but they are granted only limited access and are denied even the chance to view UTP-only forums.

ic: As for the age of the UTP, We would like to state that though the Forum is new, the Pact has been around for a rather substantial amount of time. Ur founded it barely a month after his own nation was founded, making its existance longer than a vast majority of the other alliances in the NS Universe. Furthermore, as the leadership of the UTP has recently changed hands, the new administration has taken it upon itself to make sure that the UTP WILL REMAIN a non-political entity, and will focus COMPLETELY on the economic aspect of its existance.

As stated concerning the UTP Co-Defense Group, any UTP-Sanctioned military action will be for the defense of pre-existing and profitable trade routes, and no nation will be forced to commit forces to the CDG.

Lastly, as with all economic alliances, whether it be a private affair between nations, or an open economic pact such as the UTP, the point is to bring additional revenue into the coffers of the nations envolved. This includes peacetime and wartime, and if a nation uses the funds and/or commodities they recieve from the UTP to fund a war, so be it.

This does not mean that the military action is UTP backed, only that the nation[s] envolved are utilizing an available tool for their own ends.

The Commonwealth of Azazia for a long while had practiced a policy of isolationism (ooc: i was away for several months), as a member of the UTP we would not have supported the war against Melkor - regardless of any national policies regarding the nation. The purpose and mission of the Pact is for the economic advancement of all such nations. War has never been a part of the plan, and so to call all nations war mongers is rather quite inaccurate, as war most often in an age of nuclear - and worse - weapons is more of harmful factor in national economic strength. That is why the Commonwealth maintains its policy of defensive/humanitarian military committments abroad, as such we would have never committed ourselves to the Melkor War even if the Commonwealth had not solidified its isolationist policy.

OC: Glad to see that the UTP has survived. Many, if not all the statements are correct.

The UTP began as a "small" trade pact between a dozen nations or so. Some have left, many more have remained. I have seen the fall of many alliances and organizations and it is because of their anti-peaceful nature.

I believe myself to be the allies of all UTP members (among many others), but UTP have no obligation to defend each other out of military or political standing. Many do, and I am glad that you guys stick up for each other-even if it is only in this game.

I would be busy throughout the month. I'm still working on a proposal or UTP Financial. I got a rough sketch done but still need lot's of refining to do.

Another nation has started what we call a UTP Financial Wannabe. No offense to that nation but UTP financial definitely has more clout ( as it has more money ). I'll put a proposal as soon as possible in the UTP thread. Please provide input. And Gradenk sincerely hopes that UTp would continue to grow from strength to strength.

Everything. Wars are important, as are trade. The Ur Trade Pact prizes itself in being full of stable trade relations. If your nation is particularily warlike, or not very advanced in trade, then the UTP may not be able to profit from it, or bring profit to you. So, they are all valid reasons to not accept you.
