The People's Republic of Ferrussia is looking into a new national anthem! Problem is, we can't decide. :D A national vote is being set up, but I'd like to have your opinions, as well.

We're stuck between:

Russian National Anthem (http://www.gov.ru/main/symbols/gimn_rf_t3.mp3) (takes a while to load, be patient)

Adapted melody, will write words (http://www.tparents.org/Library/Religion/Christian/MIDI-Hymns/kingsfold.mid)

Granted, the Russian National Anthem is much more impressive, but the other would be made much better, and have at least 3 verses. The question is, which tune do you like better?

And in case you were wondering:

Translated lyrics to the Russian national anthem:

Russia - our holy country,
Russia - our beloved country.
A mighty will, a great glory -
Are your inheritance for all times!

CHORUS
Be glorious, our free Fatherland!
Eternal union of fraternal peoples,
Common wisdom given by our forebears,
Be glorious, our country! We are proud of you!

From the southern seas to the polar region
spread our forests and fields.
You are unique in the world, inimitable,
Native land protected by God!

CHORUS

Wide spaces for dreams and for living
Are opened for us by the coming years
Faithfulness to our country gives us strength
Thus it was, so it is and always will be!

How about a modified verison of the Soviet National Anthem, that anthem has balls!

How about Liszt's Rhapsodie Espagnole? Sure you couldn't have words to it because it's got such complicated melodies... and the fact that its almost fourteen minutes long... and the fact that its a damn hard thing to play.

If you'd listened to the Russian national anthem, you'd see that Russia actually just changed the Soviet tune to have the lyrics above. And yes, it is a great anthem. :D

OOC: It's a DAMN good anthem! If I weren't a composer myself, I'd use it for my nation's national anthem! It became the staple piece of the brass quintet I was in: The Iron Curtain Quintet... the piece has more guts than any other anthem I've heard.

P.S. Where'd you get the other melody from? It's not a bad piece either....

It's an old melody, and I think several songs have been put to it. In particular, I got it through the LDS Hymn "If you could Hie to Kolob" (wierd name, I know).

Suprisingly, the second song is ahead in the polls.

Well while my preference remains with the Russian anthem, I can understand the other one doing well too. They're both good.

Despite the continued debate over which anthem to choose, government officials recently released the first verse of the second option, should it be chosen:

In the grand land of Ferrussia,
In the mountains of our kin,
In the great expanse of our freedom,
There is splendor all within.
But in all it's majestic glory,
There is one secret untold,
That for all Moth'r Earth has giv'n us,
'Tis unity that makes us bold!

Public opinion on the new anthem is still sought, but the government has stated that they will "need to make a decision soon."

OOC: Yes, I wrote that, and yes, I know it sucks. :)

Of course, it is your own opinion that counts, but we like the Russian anthem better.

I do not know, I like them both...

Some Anthems are funny, ever listened to Britain's? Hehehe... God Save the Queen... Hehehe. No offense to British... But in a recent Populace Poll in Britain 87% of the country dislikes their national anthem...

Thanks for your input... anyone else?

(And yes, I've heard Britain's national anthem...)

The first one certainly sounds more... imperial. Yeah, that's what I'd call it. The second one, it sounds like a hymn. But if it could sound a bit more patriotic and whatnot, it could be really good.

In conclusion, the second one.
