Tal looked across at the large forest standing a short distance away. He had the same feeling of dread that he had every time he stood this close to it.

"We don't need to worry about the inhabitants, not yet anyway." He slowly turned his head back until he was looking at Daveon. "It's best not to dwell on the troubles that may be ahead. We'll just cross that bridge if and when we come to it."

He looked back at the sleeping members in the camp, as he passed over Jadira, he could see that her eyes were wide open. "We have a good guide. Hopefully we'll steer clear of the darkness."

"I see. I shall get some rest then."

Daveon walks back to his blanket and lies down.

Daveon keeps his bow within his grasp as he doesn't trust the nearby forest.

Slowly Rhiannon and Bevan drifted off to sleep, they were well aware that this could be the last time that they manage to get anything close to a full nights sleep.

Finally morning arrived. Macros and Daveon were packing up their gear and concerning themselves with breakfast.

Serlina had risen shortly before sunrise and was by now prepared to leave, waiting only for the others.

Macros and Daveon quickly consumed their breakfast and joined Serlina in waiting for the others. Macros grinned at Serlina.

"It's good to see at least some of us are organized."

Garem was first up out of his closest friends. he constantly argued that it was down to military training, but the fact of the matter this mornig was that he was sleeping across an ant trail and had been awoken by hundreds of tiny feet marching over him. he did not mention this fact to anyone and quickly set about brushing himself down and cooking a small stew from what he could find in his napsack.

The smell of the slowly simmering broth awoke both Bevan and Rhiannon who hungrily eyed the boiling pot until Garem allowed them to have some of his breakfast.

Jadira sat silently and watched the others. She had taken over from Tal on the watch half way through the night. As her gaze fell on each of them, a knowing smiled etched itself on her face.

They're not unified. They don't work as one.

A sadness touched her features. She already saw the cracks in them, they didn't work as a team. Would they ever? Would they be willing to sacrifice their lives for the others in the group to accomplish their goal? Only for their friends perhaps. She sighed.

We're doomed to fail.

She saw Tal walk up to her, and she smiled. "Sleep well?"

"As well as expected, considering the bed." He pulled a mock face and laughed. "At least nothing happened in the night."

Jadira smiled. "I'm more worried about what might happen today."

In more ways than one.

29-08-2003, 11:50
Macros looked around.

"So are we all ready to go?"
29-08-2003, 12:37
Garem poured the slop from the bottom of his pot into a bush.
"I'll be ready in a couple of minutes." he said

Rhiannon saddled her horse in silence, then checking her sword belt.

Bevan walked over to Tal "I guess we want to get through that forrest as soon as possible?"
Mar-nu-Falmar
29-08-2003, 13:14
Tal looked at Bevan. "Yes, getting through the forest before nightfall is critical. Not many have slept inside and survived to tell the tale." He nodded his head in Jadira's direction. "We just have to hope she doesn't fall asleep on the way through."

Jadira frowned, as she followed Tal to their horses. "This isn't going to work, Tal. Look at them all, they don't acknowledge each other. They don't talk to each other."

Tal looked at her. "They will bond, trust me." He took hold of her hand. "Sometimes, Jad, you need to have faith in people."

She sighed, a sadness in her eyes. "They don't even breakfast together. They stay in their little groups. And not one person asked after any of the others." She raised her eyes until they looked deep into his. "No one cares, Tal. And if they don't care about each other, how can they care about the Tear or all the people that could die if we fail?"

Tal squeezed her hand. "Kementari is guiding us, Jad, she would not have chosen them if she thought they were unworthy." He touched her cheek. "You know that."

Jadira smiled sadly and mounted her horse. She turned to the others, as Tal took to his saddle. "Stay close and keep to the path."
29-08-2003, 13:54
Quickly Garem, Rhiannon and Bevan climbed on there horses, ready to follow Tal and Jadira.

Garem drew his sword and rested it gently across his saddle, he did not want to be surprised in the forest and find himself fumbling for his sword.

Macros and Daveon followed behind. Macros pulled up next to Rhiannon grinning.

"How is our newly found mage today?"
29-08-2003, 14:09
"I don't know" she replied.

"i still feel funny, but i don't think i blew anything up during the night." she grinned.

She flicked a strand of red hair from her face "Can you teach me something once we've got through this forest?" she enquired, the thought of learning the subtle skills of Magic from anyone else seemed far fetched to her. It was Macros that discovered her and his being her mentor gave her the security she craved at the moment.

Serlina who was by now mounted on her Voreni Battlesteed was staring into the forest trying to spot the mysterious watcher meanwhile with her spear in hand looking to all the world like Lady death incarinate.

Jadira kicked on her horse and entered the forest, immediately the atmosphere could be felt. The very air itself held a terror in it that brought bumps to the skin. It was if a million tiny fingers were trying to grab your soul.

Her horse shied slightly feeling the fear. She brought him back under control and edged further into the darkness. The light of the morning stopped at the entrance, even the sun refused to invade the foilage above. A chill breeze blew in the air, yet Jadira new that even the wind wouldn't go into the very heart of the forest.

She listened to the sounds that filled her surroundings; relieved as she caught the noise of the others behind her. She was not afraid to admit that this place brought fear to her. Even the bravest of heroes could not fail to be touched.

As they moved further in, the feeling of hundreds of eyes could be felt, staring. They were waiting for the weary to move off the path. Others had been swayed and lost, she had come close on many occasions.

The very trees seemed to call your name, bidding you to join the darkness and become one with all the horrors that lurked in the depths. She cast her eyes behind her to ensure that everyone was still with her.

Turning back to face the front, she said a prayer to Kementari for their safe passage.

He then took out his whiskey bottle and took a last drink. And fell over, never to be heard from again.

Macros looked nervously into the forest.

"If we make it out of this forest I'll be happy to teach you anything."

He turned back to Daveon.

"Hey Daveon. How does it feel to be back in a forest?"

Daveon looked at Macros.

"I'd feel better in a dwarven mine."
01-09-2003, 10:40
Bevan could not help but hear the conversation, "The way things are going we will most probably end up in a Dwarven mine. I'd certainly take that over this." he paused for a second.

"Why on earth would Kementari put all the creepest creatures in one place like this. It just doesn't make any sense." Garem glared at Bevan

"Yeah i know its not my place to question her actions, but lets face it. This place is just full of all those creatures that would give you a heart attack if you saw one in your house. Why can't this place have butterflies and pretty flowers, why does it have to insist on having Giant Spiders and Trolls and all those creepy little things with far to many legs for there own good?"
Khadrim
01-09-2003, 11:33
Macros looked around the forest as they passed through. Making sure his horse stayed on the path.

"I have no idea why all these things are in the one place. Maybe it's so they don't bother people all over the land."

Daveon rested one hand on his already knotched bow whilst observing the surrounding bush.
01-09-2003, 11:41
"May be that is Kementari's plan. Put everything nasty in one place. That way everyone knows where it is..... That actually makes sense." Bevan confirms to himself.

"So what about all the other creatures that roam this world, why aren't they here?" Garem asks.
Khadrim
01-09-2003, 11:51
"You can't exactly control everything. Maybe they started off here and moved on."

Macros continued to look around half expecting something to leap out at him.
01-09-2003, 12:36
"Well Kementari is a god, so why couldn't she have built a fence to stop them getting out. She's made a lot more awesome things than a fence." to Garem this arguement made some sense, but in the grand scheme of things Gods generally don't worry about garden furniture when designing a world.

Bevan gave garme a glance Do you know what you are actually saying you half-wit?"

Rhiannon trotted up towards the front of the party.

Serlina spoke simply. "At worse the things in this forest will only imperil your body, that is why I prefer it over the shadow forest, the things in the shadow forest imperil your very soul. A slow death by torture would be a mercy compared to what somethings in that forest could do to you. But still enough about that enjoy the ride. This is only the begining, I am sure things are just going to get darker, they always do."
Khadrim
02-09-2003, 08:23
Macros grinned.

"Very optimistic aren't you? Although I do agree with you on both points. Things probably will get worse and beings that mess with your spirit are far worse than things that will claw your face off."
02-09-2003, 08:31
"If thee is something that i have learnt from travelling with Serlina. It is that no matter how nasty a monster is or how bad our situation gets, She's seen worse and got through it." Bevan quipped.

"Somehow that is very re-assuring!"
Khadrim
02-09-2003, 08:35
"That is true. So Serlina...... how is that you have managed to escape such horrible things?" aksed Macros.
Vorena
02-09-2003, 12:29
Serlina low, her voice dark. "With the aid of comrades, good friends and lots of luck. A heck of a lot of luck."

02-09-2003, 13:14
Tal was riding just behind Jadira, his eyes darting to the edge of the trees. He had been through this forest on several occasions and it still oppressed him. He looked at his companion riding up front, and he smiled. He had been guided before by her down this very path.

He heard a horse moving up towards the front of the party. He turned briefly to see which of the others was closing up on him. As he returned his view to the front, he noticed Jadira was also moving her head back into a forward facing position.
02-09-2003, 13:43
Rhiannon brought her horse close to Tal's "How long are we going to be traveling through this place" she said "It gives me the creeps!" Rhiannon shivered.

"Why couldn't we just have gone around this place, are you trying to get us mauled?"
Khadrim
03-09-2003, 08:13
Macros grinned.

"There is always a bit of luck involved. You must have travelled with mages before if you have escaped creatures that can attack mentally?"
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 08:24
Tal looked at Rhiannon when she drew level with him. "I have no intention of getting any of us mauled. Believe me, keeping my skin in one piece is very important to me." He grinned. "But sometimes a person has to take a few risks in their life."

He looked at the trees surrounding them before turning his eyes back to her. "This path through the woods will save us several days, and the journey around is almost as dangerous, for different reasons." He smiled. "We'll get through,, unharmed."
Khadrim
03-09-2003, 08:33
Daveon also pulled up next to Tal.

"I have noticed several creatures observing us. But none seems too willing to openly confront us. Hopefully they will stay that way."
03-09-2003, 08:36
Rhiannon started looking around nervously on her horse. "Where? I can't see them." she complained.

She put a hand on her sword by her waist, "If they are watching, they may attack at any time." she rambled a little as she voiced her concerns.
Khadrim
03-09-2003, 08:43
"Calm down. As far as I can tell there aren't any creatures watching us at the moment. But they are out there somewhere. I doubt they would attack a group of this size. At least not alone."
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 08:44
Tal looked at Rhiannon and then Daveon. "I have never heard of anyone being attached on the path. It's almost as if there is some force that keeps them from the track." He faced forward. "Although there are rumours that they attempt to entice you in. So be careful."
Khadrim
03-09-2003, 08:48
"That would explain why they watch us but don't move onto the path. I shall stay alert and aware of these creatures nonetheless."
03-09-2003, 08:53
"I thought they said that they couldn't corrupt your souls?" Rhiannon whimpered.

"If those things are Wisps and other fey folk, they could lure us in. I don't want to be drawn to any ghostly lights." her imagination was nw running wild, she seemed scared that her mind could be clouded and she could be drawn to her death in the swamps.
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 09:19
Tal laughed. "It is only the unweary that are fooled into leaving the path, if you know what to expect, you will be safe." He gave them both a quick glance. "But it is worthwhile keeping your guard up, just to be certain."

He turned to Rhiannon. "Your blossoming mage skills should be more than enough to stop you being tempted. And regardless what she may say, Jadira wouldn't let you fall into a swamp."
03-09-2003, 09:40
Rhiannon seemd to relax a little, "I would hold much hope for my Mage abilities, at the moment all i can do is give my fingers pins and needles. Some one with bad blood circulation can do that."

"When i can blast fire from my finger tips then you can feel a little more confident in my magical skills." Rhiannon continued to look into the tree line, she didn't want to see anything peering back at her.
Vorena
03-09-2003, 12:04
Macros grinned.

"There is always a bit of luck involved. You must have travelled with mages before if you have escaped creatures that can attack mentally?"

Serlina voice was still dark "The mages were the frist to fall into shadow, then the Priests and the Paladins, the rest of us tried to escape after that. 12 of us went into Shadow forest and only two of us came out alive that day and only one lived longer than a day afterwards."
Khadrim
03-09-2003, 12:21
Macros lost his grin.

"That is disturbing news indeed. So are very lucky to be alive. It's good to have someone with luck on their side with us."
03-09-2003, 12:44
"Why did the last person die Serlina?" Bevan asked.
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 12:45
Tal smiled. "I have an enormous amount of hope and belief. With Macros aid you will be performing magic quickly." He watched as she began looking at the trees. "You won't see anything. They keep themselves hidden. Sometimes you can feel their presence, but they never show themselves." He shrugged. "I guess they're shy." He grinned.
03-09-2003, 12:53
"Why are they shy. I thought they want to lure you to your death, how can they do that if they hide." Rhiannon was not sure if Tal was joking, she was past caring, her mind swam with thoughts of her imminent death.
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 13:00
Tal looked at Rhiannon in disbelief. He wasn't sure whether she was trying to counter his joke with one of her own. Looking at her face, he could see she was serious.

"Rhainnon, there is nothing to fear. We will be perfectly safe." He smiled kindly. "Anyway, if anything comes at us, I know we can get through it. We had no problems with those goblins, did we?"
03-09-2003, 13:06
"They weren't in the Forest!" she replied "I've heard the stories about this place." she shuddered again "I just hope we get out of here quickly, i don't like being watched."

Rhiannons fear of being watched was perfectly understandable, in her trade of stealing, being spotted couldbe the difference between a huge pay day and dancing on the end of a rope on some far flung cities gallows.
Mar-nu-Falmar
03-09-2003, 15:42
Tal looked at the ears of his horse as he thought. He watched as they twitched to every noise that emerged from their surroundings. He could feel the tension running through its body as he rode.

He let his eyes rest on Rhiannon. "The forest is just a location. It is the people themselves that make a difference." He smiled. "I have no doubt that if any trouble comes our way, we will be able to deal with it."

He flicked his head towards her companions. "You've travelled with them before, you know what they can do. We've seen Macros and Daveon in action, and I would give my life for the group, as would Jadira. With those kind of people around you, how can you be in any serious danger."
03-09-2003, 15:50
"We barely got out of here alive last time we came in here." Rhiannon said,

"I don't care what everyone can do, when it comes down to it, its just you against what stands before you. If i'm bewitched by that thing then i don't stand a chance." Rhiannon looked into the trees.

"I just hope that you are right and those things aren't feeling sociable today."

Daveon became more relaxed with the knowledge that the occupants of the forest could not cross the path. He loosened his grip on his bow but did not release it.

Macros came trotting up behind him.

"There are some kind of wards around this path. They very strange though. Like nothing I have ever seen before."
04-09-2003, 08:47
"Where?" Rhiannon said looking down at the ground, "Why would someone cast magic on this road? I've never heard of any Traders using this forest."
Khadrim
04-09-2003, 08:53
"That's the thing. It does not look like a human spell. It is very very old and I can't work out how it works or who made it."
Mar-nu-Falmar
04-09-2003, 09:05
Tal looked at Rhiannon. "You would be surprised where people would cast magic. It is said that a safe passage was created through this Forest, that is why you must stick to the path." He indicated the surrounding trees. "It is also the reason that the darkness has to tempt you in, as it cannot come out."

He shrugged. "It is an ancient spell, said to have been around since the earliest history of Mar-nu-Falmar." He smiled. "Some attribute it to the Goddess herself, although that is merely legend."
Khadrim
04-09-2003, 09:17
"It's quite possible. That would explain why I can't recognise the spell form."
Mar-nu-Falmar
04-09-2003, 09:42
Tal looked surprised. "Well, that makes me feel better knowing that a Goddess is watching over us." He looked at the road ahead then turned to Rhiannon. "What about you? Do you feel easier now?"
04-09-2003, 10:04
"A little" she replied a nervous smile appeared on her lips.

From behind then Garem called out "So If Kementari can put a spell on this road to stop things crossing it and killing us, why can't she build a fence?"

Bevan who was still riding next to Serlina chuckled to himself, yet again Garem had proven that his mouth is far quicker than his brain.
Khadrim
04-09-2003, 11:38
"Well.... whatever this spell is, it's strong. I can't see it fading anytime soon. I know that makes me feel a lot better."
05-09-2003, 14:19
"If everyone else feels safe, then i guess i feel a little safer as well." Rhiannon said, it was a strange logic that only she could follow right about now. But she was calmed by the fact that most of the party were calm.
Aelosia
05-09-2003, 16:14
"You are still in danger...you shouldn´t calm down", hisses a voice, coming form the bushes behind the party.

A shadowy figure appears between two trees, dressed in crimson tight clothes, with light layers of silver armor over it and a black hood concealing the face...

The stranger shows his empty hands and take a few steps towards the group saying: "Why are you here?, What are you looking for?...This forest is not place for you, lightwalkers..."
Mar-nu-Falmar
07-09-2003, 13:20
Tal stopped his horse, and turned, riding back the man that had just appeared from the trees. Being a naturally suspicious man, his had was reading on the hilt of his sword. When he was close enough, he halted and looked at the stranger standing in front of him.

"And who might you be, friend?" He let his eyes travel over the man's attire, and brought them to rest on the shadow where his eyes would be. "Tell me what business is it of yours why we travel through this forest? We know the dangers and are prepared for the risk."
Aelosia
07-09-2003, 13:59
"There´s no need for swords...I´m just another traveler, I have evil purposes, but not with any of you...", the stranger takes a step back, looking at Tal suspiciously...

"My name is Prince Atheril, of the noble house of D´nan, and I´m looking for company. You all look like skilled warriors, so I want to know what are you doing here because maybe I will join you, and help you, at no cost, except for three conditions..."

Slowly he shows the sword concealed in his back, and says "I´m a skilled warrior too, and a experienced mage...so tell me, May I join you?"
Mar-nu-Falmar
07-09-2003, 14:10
Tal moved his hand from his sword's hilt, but kept it lying loosely on his leg. He looked at the weapon hanging at the man's back, a glint appearing in his eye. He turned briefly to Jadira, who had stopped slightly up the road. She nodded, almost imperceptably.

Tal returned his gaze to Atheril. "I've never ridden alongside a prince before." He began to turn his horse back to its original direction. "Don't make me regret my decision to do so now." He flashed a brief smile, and kicked on his mount.

Serlina studied the new arrival breifly before heading farther down the path, she would have to watch this one.

07-09-2003, 18:44
Atheril removes her hood and shows his face, his skin is pale, almost grey in complexion, and has completely black eyes, however, his fine, handsome features and pointy ears shows he´s an elf...but different from any other elf...more...dark and sinister.

He turns to Serlina and smiles to her, then he says "You won´t regret it, so, what are we looking for?"
Khadrim
08-09-2003, 08:48
Daveon rode up next to Atheril revealing his elf ears.

"What kind of elf are you?"

Macros cocked his right eyebrow.

"A warrior and a mage. Was your training seperate or combined. Warrior/mages are rare to come across."
08-09-2003, 09:04
"Another elf!" Rhiannon thought, she couldn't believe her eyes, yet something was strange about this one. She had seen very few elves in her life, but this one was different. She slowly rode her horse next to Daveon, quietly she whispered "Whats he then?"
Khadrim
08-09-2003, 12:58
Daveon looked at Rhiannon.

"I am not quite sure. He may possibly be a dark elf."
08-09-2003, 13:15
Rhiannon's eyes widened "Thats bad right?"

Bevan watched the new party member closely before riding up next to him, he offered his hand "My names Bevan" he said, "As long as your evil intent doesn't include slitting our throats while we sleep, then i am happy to make your acquaintance." He smiled just to show the stranger he meant no harm.
Aelosia
08-09-2003, 16:03
Atheril looks to Daevon with a sad expression "Maybe you shouldn´t ask, cousin. I´m an elf, a dark one...but not one of those subterranean rats, a shadow elf, more properly, from the Fallen House of Aelos. And the nobles of our house trains in both magic and fencing, at the same time. We are called Myrmidons in your language, human"

Then he turns to Bevan and smiles too "I´m pleased to meet you, kind one...and no, I´m not going to slit your throats in your sleep...I´m more interested in your help. Do this party have a Battlemage or a wizard?" he ask to Bevan..."I´m looking for jewels. I will not reclaim any other treasure..."

Atheril starts to play a strange flute and a grey horse appears behind the trees, he mount the horse and rides next to Tal "You looks like the leader of this....band....So, What are we looking for?"
Khadrim
09-09-2003, 07:29
Daveon looked at Rhiannon.

"I don't think so. He is a dark elf but he is more controlled than others I have encountered."

Macros follows Atheril up to Tal.

"I would be the mage within this group. We also have a mage in training over there."

He points to Rhiannon.
09-09-2003, 08:09
Rhiannon sheepishly grinned and waved back, the last thing she wanted was to draw attention to herself at this moment.

Bevan continued following Atheril, trying to interupt his conversation "Jewel? What Jewel? How much is it worth?" it didn't take an intelligent man to realise that Bevans brain was working overtime, picturing an expensive Gem that he could "help" aquire, for the right price.
Mar-nu-Falmar
09-09-2003, 08:11
Tal turned to Atheril, as his horse drew level, and looked at him with suspicious eyes. Yet a smile played around his lips. "That is true, friend. I am the leader of this bunch, although I use the term loosely. I lead and they are following, but they can turn away whenever they wish. They are not bound in any way other than their word."

He returned his gaze to the path, leading off into the distance. "What we are seeking is a powerful object; an ancient one. Or we could be searching for a myth." He laughed to himself. "Other than that, I'd rather not disclose any more details. It keeps me alive."
Aelosia
09-09-2003, 20:24
Atheril looks at Macros "So, you are a wizard...and that stupid girl is your trainee?, I can´t see any talent in her, maybe you should dispose of her, she´s just a burden ot you..."

Then turns to Bevan, with a icy look in his eyes "Hear me, little one, that gem can´t be sold, I would give you all my lands and possesions if you find it and give it to me. I will also slay you if you don´t handle it to me..."suddenly sparks of lightning cross his eyes, "I hope you understood that, my little friend"

"And about my control, Daevon, I´m not a stupid drow berserker, I´m a shadow elf, so don´t compare me with lesser creatures. Tal, I will follow you, no more questions asked"
Khadrim

Atheril's icy manner still wasn't enough to put Macros off.

"I prefer the term mage. I'm trained in many fields of magic including battle magecraft. The girl is extremely new to her abilities and has yet to even receive any lessons from me, but don't underestimate her."

Macros smiled as lightning arced around his head.

Daveon spoke up.

"Forgive me if I have offended you. I do not mistake you for a lesser being. I have yet to come across a shadow elf."

OOC:Bit of info, the Voreni have two twin gods, Dorstia the Light Lord and Serveni the Shadow Queen.

Tal listened for a moment before stopping his horse across the path blocking everyone's way. He looked at the party gathered behind them. His eyes were flaming with anger.

"Let's all get one thing straight, as it appears I have to repeat it for those of you that were in the inn, and explain it to Prince Atheril." His eyes met with each of the others as he spoke. "If you cannot get on with your fellow traveller than you are not welcome on his trip. I will not have you all fighting each other and endangering the rest of us."

He swung his horse around to face front. Turning his head he spoke softly, but the rage could be heard in his voice. "Anyone commits any form of violence against another member of this group, and you'll have my sword to face." He rode off after Jadira.

He looks to the ground in shame "I don´t have good manners maybe, nobody teached me that, and I´m sorry if I spoke harsh words".

Then he turns to Daevon "Cousin, no offense taken, but your kind had always treated me like a beast...like one of those stupid and barbaric drow...I´m the one who should apologize for my words"

He stares at the mage, with admiration painted in his eyes "Macros, maybe you and I have many things in common, and could share a lot of knowledge. I want to be in good terms with you...maybe we could be friends...I sense a lot of power in you"

"And you Serlina, Do you Vorenis worships Serveni the Shadow Queen too?, I worship her, and used to pray at my family chapel looking for her favours...you shouldn´t judge me like that, I´m a man of honor, and I gave to all of you my word of not betray any of you. I´m a proud prince, of a noble family, and betrayal is not my specialty...just because I´m a children of the darkness I´m not a demon..."

In his eyes appears what seems to be tears, but he washes them out with his sleeve..."What are you looking at?, we need to reach the end of this path as fast as we can..."

Jadira up front, stopped her horse suddenly and turned to see Atheril and Serlina dismount, and start moving towards the tree line. She maneuvred her horse, and rode back down the way she had come, until she drew level with them.

Tal watched, from his viewpoint just behind where Jadira was originally. He shook his head, as she dismounted and walked over to the others.

"Put your weapons away!" Jadira's voice held much anger. "You know nothing of this forest. If you spill so much as spill a drop of blood from one of the creatures that dwell here, the spell that protects this path will be broken." She indicated the trees around her. "And the very forest itself will avenge itself on us."

Then the Atheril´s own shadow begin to take form, and turns to something more...tangible...more...real. It´s not anymore the shadow of the prince, it looks like the shadow of a young elven maiden, with her hair at the wind.

Atheril closes his eyes again, and mutters "Ainulairi dúdûredhel, Elengûl-Daeldalië celebanna, ar vië er Daelen girithfuin mormei" (Sacred guardian wraith, Dark maiden of the night, by the sorcery of the stars show me the deep secret of those who oppose me). Tal returned his gaze to Atheril and then Serlina. "A wraith is really the least of our worries; this place is said to be home to some truly demonic beings, hence the spell guarding the passage." He looked at the spot where Atheril was staring. "Perhaps we should just move away from here."

Tal rode up until he was again level with Jadira, who had begun to relax in her saddle. He knew that she was still feeling uneasy. It played heavily on her features, giving her an unapproachable air, but he knew her well enough not to be so easily deceived.

Jadira looked over at him, her eyes filled with a fear he had never seen there before. Her face had turned pale, and her hand was still gripping the hilt of her sword.

Tal's brow furrowed. "Jad, what's the mat...?"

She didn't need to answer, as suddenly a blinding light engulfed the entire path. The air was filled with the most horrific scream, as if all the damned in Hell had been allowed that moment to share their suffering.

Tal spun in his saddle, while trying to keep his horse under control. The animal was in a wild panic. After a struggle, he managed to gain the upper hand.

In front came, a loud crashing noise, as the very Forest itself shut the door on their exit. The ground shook beneath them, the temors causing too huge trees to fall across the path.

As the light faded, the group were able to see the devastation that had occurred. The path was totally inaccessible.

Tal turned to Jadira. "What the...? What happened?"

Tal turned to Daveon, as his horse drew near. Acknowledging his presense with a nod, Tal continued to watch the treeline. "We're about half way through, but the journey isn't going to be easy, now that we have to leave the path."

Up ahead, Tal could see Jadira checking her weaponry. She looked at him, a strange look in her eyes. A mixture of fear and adventure. Slowly she moved her horse off the path and entered the murky depth, her horse disappearing from view, until he too turned and followed her route.

The scream horrified Bevan, Garem and Rhiannon. The three of them held tighter to their horses and the swords that rested in their hands.

Slowly they followed Tal into the trees, "I thought you said this was a bad thing to do." Rhiannon enquired, her fear of the forest growing inside her again.

"It is a bad thing to do" Bevan replied, "But we have no choice, thats what happens when people disrespect Kementari. Lets just class this as one huge slap in the face from the Gods!" he continued trying to be light hearted, but hiding it poorly behind his nervous eyes.

Darkness. The weight of it could be felt, boring down on the spirit, robbing the soul of its will. Even the light of the sun had to fight to penetrate the overhanging canopy, the thinest of rays highlighting the way.

The forest was dense around them, the branches of the trees scraping at their skins, grabbing the material that clothed them. Pulling them, trying to take them from their saddles. To be lost forever in the depths.

The smell filled their nostrils, the smell of death and decay. Testament to the lost souls that had walked these treacherous paths. Swamps girgled, as the horses passed close by, tasting the flesh as it move on.

Jadira moved the party through the undergrowth, the horses hooves loud in the eerie silence. Her eyes remained alert, flashing around her. Her senses heightened, but the sheer oppression that surrounded them.

The noise came upon them suddenly, a broken twig followed by a blood curdling screech. A low guttleral growl, permeated the air. Something was close, coming through the trees. It's breath could be felt, as if it was sitting on their shoulders.

A branch moved, to their right. The silence once again becoming the norm. A signal, the calm before the storm. The eyes of the party focused on the spot, ready to take action as soon as this unknown foe made itself seen.

The low growl came again from the trees, then behind them from the left, another scream. The trees parted, as eyes flashed red, the huge beast broke into view...

Garem reared his horse onto it back legs as the creature burst through the tree line.

Bevan, with sword in hand, raced towards the creature, it watched his approach with its blood red eyes and with perfect timing swung its giant clawed hand across Bevan and his horse. The claws tore into the horses side and sent its rider hurtling from it, landing unceremoniously in the in the undergrowth.

Rhiannon remained in control of her horse, drawing her blade from its scabbard, she prepared to follow Bevan in the attack.

The huge beast roared, as the spear connected with its body. His arms flaying, swiping anything nearby; its powerful hands slamming into anything within its grasp. The slashing sword, brought fury to already heightened anger, taken further by the flaming bolt and ball.

Tal, his sword in hand and riding quickly into the group, managed to turn his horse before a large fist fell where he had been seconds earlier. He stop his horse in front of Bevan, his eyes on the enraged monster.

The Beast went berserk as the pain of it's injuries sent it's rage skywards. His fists pounded anything in its path, the bulk of the animal giving momentum and weight to each swing. Letting out a gutteral growl, as if calling, he moved further into the battle.

Jadira loosed an arrow, barely scratching its arm. She sighed as she quietly sent a prayer to Kementari, before following Tal into the fray. She stop suddenly as from behind the group the brush parted and two more vicious beasts broke through...

Garem stood back up, trying hard to join the fray, but found his advance blocked by the creatures swinging arms, he slashed at the beast with his sword, trying desperately to break through its guard.

Rhiannon scrabbled across the undergrowth attempting to get away from the angered beast, it bared down on her position, she knew her death was imminant as she closed her eys adn prepared for her fate.

A mighty roar was let loose by the hugs beast as the sword touched its skin, it swungs out against the welder of the sword. His fists striking, as it turned and felt the point at its throat. With a fell swoop of his other, he grabbed the weapn and pushed back, sending it away from his flesh. It moved a large leg bringing him onto the group.

Tal, turned as Bevan drew his attention to the two creatures that had appeared from the other side of the trail. They were different from the original attacker; smaller but they looked faster, and in their eyes shone an intelligence that the other brute seemed to lack. Their eyes darted taking in the scene as they to released their battle cries.

They had sense the disturbance in the air, moments before the golem had flashed into existance. Their hackles rises at this threat, they were stirred into action as the two fireballs rushed towards them, before passing harmlessly over their bodies. The larger of the two rose onto its hind legs as it prepared to pounce on its nearest victim.

Jadira's horse charged into the fray, her sword already held high ready for the strike. She was aiming for the new arrivals as the original beast was being secured by an ample amount of defenders. Her blade made contact with flesh, breaking skin, but only enough to further enrage the already tempered creature.

Jadira following up from Macros' crippling attack on the beast, began to hack away at the fallen creature, hoping to stop it from rising. Her mouth moving silently in prayer.

Tal, his back pressed up against his horse, with Bevan at his side slashed wildly at the crazed beast before them. Tal turned to Macros, as he approached, his face returning to its usual jocular expression, although there was a heightened awareness in his gaze. He too felt the growing presence of terror in the air.

Pointing up ahead, as he turned his horse to the correct direction, Tal spoke loud enough for the whole group to hear. “If we come out in the right place, we may be able to swing round, and stop at the little village on the edge of GreenHorn, that’s if we don’t send up too far off our original path.” He looked up ahead to where Jadira was, preparing herself to lead the group on their way.

Once everyone had settled for the onward journey, Jadira moved her horse swiftly to the front of the group, taking her usual position of guide. She had been through the forest many times, and although she had mainly stuck to the path, she was certain she could find their way out. There seemed to be a track running through the thickets, the favoured routes of the beasts that dwell in the darkness.

The party could hear the continued howls and cries that permeated the air. Sometimes the sound appeared to come from behind a nearby tree, or sometimes from a great distance, but wherever it came from, the owners never showed themselves, leaving the group to continue along unhindered.

Greenhorn was a huge forest, and the usual route took several hours, this new passage that they had been forced to take added an extra few to that total, as they circled swamps and fallen trees that blocked their way, making the best of a bad thing. Until finally they ominous feeling began to leave, as the foliage and canopy slowly thinned out marking the end of the trees.

Suddenly they found themselves back under the open sky, the sun already beginning to set. Taking a deep breath of clean air, Tal started to whistle, expressing his relief to finally be free of the woods, and the potentially lethal beasts. Looking back at the exit, he saw the tree branches move until there was no sign of where they had just emerge from.

In the distance, less than an hour’s ride away, stood their next goal. The little town of Reena, nestled between two hills, was the last stopping place before the reaching the border of Mar-nu-Falmar. Small wisps of smoke could be seen rising into the sky, giving the place a welcoming feel.

Taking the lead, Tal moved his horse to the front of the group, and smiled to Jadira as he moved near. “Well, looks like we were lucky with our exit, we’re closer than I thought we would be.”

Jadira turned and smiled, her eyes reflecting the setting sun. “If our luck holds out, we should be there before nightfall.” She turned her attention to the route ahead. “Lead the way.”

Jadira nodded her head and smiled, at Bevan's statement. "I do believe not many have been as fortunate as we were today." She kicked the horse on, as she followed Tal toward Reena. "Someone must be smiling down on us."

Tal lead the group slowly towards the village, the wide open plane siphoning into the gorge between the two hills, that protected Reena from the east and west. Situated in the middle, the village had grown up along the trade route from Mar-nu-Falmar and its neighbours.

Not a huge village, Reena consisted of the usual establishments; an Inn, a store, a blacksmiths, a trading post, and a scattering of houses. An inviting place, where the locals would welcome you into their tiny world with a smile and a kindly word. Although, there was a weariness, hidden behind friendly eyes. They feared the forest and the Orcs that appeared near the border.

It was due to this threat that a group of soldiers stayed permanently in Reena, protecting it from the attacking hordes, as well as deterring any passing opportunists, hoping to lighten some unfortunate merchants purse.

Entering the village, Tal guided his horse over to the Inn's courtyard. Dismounted he walked his horse over to the stables, waiting for the others to follow suit. He turned to his companions, a look of relief softened his features.

"We're here for the night." It hadn't been his plan, he had hoped that they would be several miles along their journey, but the detour in Greenhorn had altered this slightly. "We move out first thing, I'll arrange somewhere for us to bed down."

He handed the reins of his horse and a coin to the lad in the stables, then turned back to the others. "And don't cause any trouble, I don't want to have to leave any of you here when we leave." He smiled to lighten the mood, and headed into the Inn to make arrangements.

Bevan walked away from the party, he knew what Tal had said, but this was too good an opportunity to miss. If this really was a trade route then there would be plenty of Merchants with heavy purses. Besides Bevan needed a new horse and it only seemed fair that he should be helped with the costs.

He nodded his head at Jadira, who was settling her horse into the stables, and headed into the Inn. His eyes scanning those present, his brief nods acknowledging those he recognised. He moved over to the bar, where he began to make arrangements with the Landlord.

Macros couldn't help but grin at Rhiannon's panic.

"Calm down. You're not going to explode if you are startled. If you were in real danger and under threat, then you may start with the fire. Anyway, as each night passes, your powers will become easier to control."

Macros continued down the path and into the stables where Daveon awaited. After dismounting and paying the stable boy, the pair headed into the inn.

After puting her horse in the stables, Serlina entered the Inn. As she entered eyes all over the common room faced her as the inn went deathly quiet for a moment and a few people left quickly to go out a rear exit. When she sat down, people moved away from her and began to either ingore her or whisper nerviously glancing her way.

Rhiannon decided that she should follow Bevan. Knwoing him any plan that he was likely to come up with included her or Garem. And Garem had already decided on drinks rather than wealth.

(OOC: Just a quick note, I have asked and been accepted to play the innkeeper of this particular establishment whilst Bevan and Rhiannon are off doing whatever they are doing!)

Atheril followed Serlina to the inn. He saw the amazed faces of the common people. "They look impressed with your presence, I better hide myself, shadowelves aren't loved by the populace", he says, hiding his face beneath the hood of his cloak.

Daveon slung his bow back over his shoulder as he entered the inn. He made his way directly to a corner table and sat, watching the crowd.

Macros walked through the doorway leaning on his staff. His cloak covered all but his mouth as he made his way toward the bar. Once there, he sat down and ordered.

"Could I get your best ale and a hot meal?"
07-11-2003, 16:03
From behind the bar a gaunt figure appeared, dressed in faded clothes, that were once rich with colour and textures, around his waist hung a heavily stained apron. His face was long and pale, his teeth crooked and stained through years of neglect. Through the strands of hair that hung from his head sat two bright eyes, which twinkled with life. Possibly the only thing about this man that was vaguely attractive.

“Good evenin’ gentlemen” he said, he voice soft, his mouth crept into a smile at the corner.
“My name is Cecil Futterbuk, your host in this den of food and drink, known as the “The Rampant Cockerel ”, how can I be of assistance, your wish is, as they say, my command” the strange figure cups his hands together as he waits for a reply.

His pause is only short lived as he continues his sales pitch, “We have the finest imported wines from throughout the region, as well as the best cuisine in all the lands. Why not try “Honey suckled boar” or “Nut Roast Chicken”, but for those of you than really fancy a taste of the exotic, why not sample the culinary brilliance of “Griffin Steak” freshly imported from the coasts of Hesniech.” Again he pauses. Watching each person of the party like a hawk.

"Elven wine. A bottle", says Atheril, hiding his face from beneath the hood "Who hunted the griffin?, anyway", he asks, his voice with a tone of amusement.

Macros smiled.

"I'll have a bottle of wine and a honey suckled boar please. Oh, and a bottle of elven wine for my friend over there."

Macros indicates Daveon sitting over in the corner.

Cecil spoke the order out loud, just to help memorise then turned to a maid that was walking by, quickly he grabbed her arm and pulled her close. He whispered the order and then sent her on her way.

Mr Futterbuk, then turned to Serlina “Don’t worry about Orcs here Miss. Its been a long time since they have tried to attack this place. Reena is far to important for Mar-nu-Falmar not to protect us.” He leans forward, “You see this village is right on a trade route, all the best merchant come here, and sell their goods. I guess that why there is a military presence at all times.” Cecil smiles, “This place is as safe as a fortress.”

He then turned his attention to Atheril, “I would expect that they were the greatest Hunters around to kill a mighty Griffin, otherwise I would not serve such delicacies in my establishment.” He paused for a while.

“So what brings you here? Have you been on the road long?”

A sarcastic grin crossed Macros' face.

"We just had a jolly time passing through the forest. A lot of lovely pets in there."
12-11-2003, 13:33
Mr Futterbuk returned the smile, "Isn't it lucky that we have that path through the forest. If it weren't for Kementari envoking a spell on that trade rooute we would be in trouble."

He pauses for a second then continues, "think of it, all those Merchants that would have to travel a few extra days to pass around those trees. Lucky for us that no one is stupid enough to draw blood or cast a spell on that road." he quips.

"Why have you come here then? You don't look like merchants. More like travellers. Does that mean you've been on the road long?" He asked for a second time.

Macros rolls his eyes.

"Um.... yeh, about the path...... it kinda broke."
13-11-2003, 09:01
"Broken, what do you mean broken?" Cecil choked on his words as he tried desperately to remain calm.

"How can this be, that path was created by a God! Who in their right mind would destroy it. Don't you understand this is our life force, this is worse than any Orc attack. Without that trade route, Merchants won't want to come here, they'll go to another town and then travel around Greenhorn." Mr Futterbuk covered his face in his hands as he tried to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening.

"Please tell me you are joking with me!"

Macros attempted a grin but failed.

"I'm afraid it is broken. I'm not quite sure how. Perhaps there is a way to restore it?"
13-11-2003, 13:30
Cecil pulled up a chair from a nearby table and sat down, he cupped his head in his hands.

"Of course its not fixable, unless a god owes you a favour!" he voice filled with worry and anger in equal measures, "I can't believe this has happened. Was there any one else there with you?" he asked, trying desperatley to understand what was happening to him.

Serlina spoke. "I am a shadowmaster of the Shadow Queen, she who protects agiast the evils that lurk in the darkness, I could ask her to create a new protective path. It would ward off monsters and evil spirits of the path, however it will not protect you from your fellow man. She would likely require a shrine to be build with gifts to be left there. She is rather fond of flowers, fruits, nuts, and some other things."

"How exactly did it break?"

Daveon continued to sit in the corner, observing the occupants. He recieved a few glares from people but ignored them.

"Because you doubted your safety under Kementari's protection."

The voice was ice cold, chilling the room several degrees as she entered, Jadira walked over to the table where Macros and Serlina were talking. Her face was grim, her eyes carried an anger that she didn't try to hide.

She turned to Serlina, looking deep into the hood, as if she was staring directly into her eyes. "Your Shadow Queen will not be needed in Mar-nu-Falmar. We have our Goddess, we don't need another." She looked at the others. "Unless, of course, you want to anger her even more than you have already."

She turned to Cecil, and nodded her greeting. "Place is quiet tonight, Futterbuk. Been caught watering the beer again?" She smiled, as she made her way over to Tal.

Serlina spoke. "I think I can deal with having her angry at me, my godess will protect me. I will as always go by the tenets of my faith even if it doesn't make everyone else happy." She chuckles dryly. "No wonder the Lightlord and the Shadow Queen concider Kementari a wet blanket and touchy. If her clerics are anything to go by."

Serlina spoke in her usually calm emotionless voice. "Kementari doesn't have to like me, Serveni knows the reasons behind that which I do. If Kementiri has a problem with that she can take it up with my goddess."
Serlina paused and continued. "As Spear Grandmaster Terixi says, Dorstia the Light Lord and Serveni the Shadow Queen knows somethings one must do will anger others even gods, but it is for the greater good."

Macros kept quiet. The worshipping of gods wasn't very common in Khadrim so he didn't really have anything to say. He continued to eat his meal and listen to the others.
17-11-2003, 09:24
Cecil cleared his throat, "I'm sorry Madam, but it is not wise to speak ill of Kementari, whether or not you believe in another god." he lent forward, keeping his voice quiet, so that his patrons could not hear.

"We are in Mar-nu-Falmar right now, Kementari raised this nation from beneath the waves, she can easily put us... and you back there. She is the creator God, everything you see was built by her. Everyone in this town and in this bar worships Kementari." he pauses.

"I guess what i'm trying to say, is that your attack on our god, is unwarrented, it shows a lack of respect, Where we show respect to your dieties. We would never dream of questioniung your Gods. So please can you keep your beliefs to yourself, or my patrons might take the law into their own hands."

"This is not a threat madam, I have seen plenty of people like you, full of stories about their greatness, but no one has seen the deeds, it hurts me to see another young lady belive she is something that she is not. Please do not tell my nation who to worship and why, do not tell us who to fear, or that you are the greatest of heroes that ever passed. I have seen hundreds of people like you, each one of them died, completely misunderstanding the world which they where in. I don't care how good you are with your weaponary, when your time comes, and let me say with an attitude like yours it will come. You will pick a fight with the wrong people, and trust me when I say, that I do get the wrong sort in here. And your proficiency in weapons will count for nothing."

Cecil moved to the bar area and walked back with the orders, "Now please enjoy your meals." he smiled
