The Manchester Meeting: Success!!!

Well it worked :)

I got there at about 13:45 (after walking past the place twice  ) and waited til Anarchic Conceptions turned up at about 14:15. Tink turned up just afterwards and caus of Tribes of Longton had to pull out, it was just us 3 til 4pm, when Tactical Grace and Pure Metal turned up.

So we stayed at the pub until about 7ish when we went for a chinese buffet (mmmmmmmmm sweet and sour sauce......mmmmmmmm :D oh and Tactical Grace is addicted to duck and cucumber pancakes).

Then, after a quick stop at piccadily to check tinks train times, we spent the rest of the time in a bar near UMIST (the uni).

It was a great day and it was brilliant to meet other people from NS.

Admittedly now we know the true secret at Forum 7 and the TRUE identity of Max (that was a shocker i can tell you ;) )

In anycase, i started this to let the others who were there to post what they thought, as well as the pics and videos tink and pm took.

Yeah well, you'd damn well better. I want to see some drunken nakedness in the centre of Manchester! OK, so not necessarily 'naked' but, you know...a little craziness wouldn't go amiss.

I'll tell you what - if it goes well, and you feel the need to organise another 'event' in Manchester, organise it at the end of the last uni week before Crimbo. That way, I'll actually be in Manchester, I'll have some money, I won't be working and I certainly won't be sailing (unless we fit the icebreaker to the bow this year ).

And I want video clips. Damn it!

Well, no nakedness, but some wet paint ( ;) ) was involved.

In anycase, thanks to all, twas a great day :)

I said nothing! There is no conspiracy!

It was really cool though. I made a hell of an entrance, knocking a table into a spin and pouring some other guy's pint all over the floor. The Temple pub itself turned out to be The Underground or whatever bar from way back, and a veritable museum of toilet graffiti.

Then yeah, we did the usual hanging around the city thing, went to a Chinese restaurant, only to discover halfway through that Tink didn't like Chinese. Like...we only spent 15 minutes deciding.

Tink surprised me actually, I thought she'd be all bouncy and hyperactive, and instead she sat quietly at the side, crying softly as the four guys talked with great excitement about shared interests in computer hardware. The quote of the night has got to be during the 40" plasma screen vs. projector debate, when I asked her if we were boring her, and she said "It's OK, most of my friends are nerds." Oops. :(

The other guys were more or less as I imagined them, even Pure Metal looked the part, a bit like a metallist. :p

Then I got to show the guys my old haunt, the Sofa bar, no longer so named, but still decked out with bespoke upholstery. :D

I have to go now so I will probably add plenty of thoughts later...would love to see what everyone else thought. And I want to see my wet paint moment, damn it!

Oh yeah, my fortune cookie read: "Boomerangs are coming back." A slightly menacing conclusion to an evening meal... Post yours, guys!

My fortune cookie was "Do something new today". Bit late to be honest...meeting 4 people of NS was something new :D

*Posts on Forum 7*

Mwahahahahaha, you lie!!!!! ;) :p :D

I agree, everyone was pretty much what i expected except Tink. As TG said, she was pretty shy (although it has to be said, the pictures of her on here don't do her justice :) ).

Anarchic Conceptions is a thoroughly nice bloke as are PM and TG. Was great just having a real big chat about so much different stuff (projectors vs. screens included) such as how mods do their work, how NS works, the different aspects to the game we don't take part in (Invasion and Defence etc).

Needless to say, we also talked about our favourite posters, our favourite trolls etc etc. All in all really good company :)

PM needs to give his recipe for his ultimate energy bar again...

Sounds like fun, anyway. It would certainly explain why General was a little boring last night!

I got the rather odd:

"Wow! bet you aren't shy in the locker room" (or something, I lost it)

If any thinks they know what it meant, tell me.

Though the evening was good, and I enjoyed myself a lot, despite the evil bar maid. We should do it again sometime, should be easier now it has been done once already :)

About a repeat event, though...

About a repeat event, though...
if you held it anywhere slightly further south than manchester, i'd be there for sure! 4 1/2 hours on the train gets a tad tiresome after a bit is all :P

but at least i learned manchester is, in fact, nowhere near birmingham :p

and we also learned some pretty interesting stuff about tink :D ;) ;)

I had a really nice time and everyone was lovely, sorry about being so quiet, I'm a little shy around new people.

TG has the dodgiest accent I've ever heard, but it was rather sexy

anyway big thanks to Kel for organising it! :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: and also to people for coming :fluffle: :fluffle:

Now, I hope you all realise that you are now legally bound to take those beans and spill them all over the cat as it lunges out of the bag and gives it all away.

If that made sense...

i'd agree with this, totally. pretty much as i might have guessed from how i know you all on here... with the exception of tink (the shyness with new people thing again) and TG's awesome accent :D

and that's Kanabia's secret recipe... i shouldn't have even told you in the first place

Where is the jaw-dropping and tongue-unrolling smiley when you need it?

Yeah, have to agree there. Anyway, not sure if Tink remembers, but wasn't there some lesbian stuff involved? :p

Damn, Tribes must really wish he had come now. It'll teach you to get your lies in early, though I must say, it was hilarious listening in to Tink's increasingly improbable excuses to her family on the phone, as we tried to stifle our laughter.

And thanks for reminding me, the bar lady at the ex-Sofa was indeed a bitch. All I did was ask about the establishment's change of name and said it was cool they kept the furnishings, and she glared back like she wanted to tell me to fuck off.

I would definitely come to another NS meet if any of you guys were going, even if it's a bit further south. Somewhere near London sounds like a good idea, Birmingham perhaps? :D

Well, I agreed to meet up with Cog in a foreign country (the US) and took Unfree out to dinner a couple of times (after convincing her I wasn't some kind of netperv).

So no...it comes pretty easily to me.

I find it funny though, how one guy says he attributed Received Pronounciation accents to us, and is now shocked we're normal, and another thinks we sound "so proper". Strange, that.

Strange, that.
you honestly have the best accent i've ever heard, it's just so......weird (yet wonderful)

Well...you sound normal to you...but even though I know you guys don't talk like me, I read your posts as though you do. Can't help it. So it's kind of neat to hear your real voices...even though I continue to 'hear' a Canadian accent when I read your posts. And the Brit accent, to us, is 'proper'. Which is why it's so funny when you folks swear

I'm European. And I've been to the UK several times. So, I have higher expectations! :p

No, really, you all sound like people. I'm even thinking about starting a thread where people can post links to little snippets of their voices so that I can be even more freaked out by how different everyone sounds than they do in my head. I can just imagine some of the accents of the people whose primary language isn't English! It'd be fun, but I don't know if I could pull it off.

No pics of Cog, I never brought a camera to that :( . But we went to an arcade where he repeatedly owned me at DDR (L9 and custom effects vs default L3), and then we played a laser tag type game where we were up against a bunch of 13 year olds, and we both clocked up six-digit scores. We also posted on the forums from an Internet Cafe, and discussed how to take the Mod Conspiracy further forward. :D

you do have good bone structure
I suppose that is a compliment. I looked for a tongue-unrolling smiley but couldn't find one. :p

Regarding my accent, I am an ex-Russian, ex-American British guy, and a bit better travelled than that alone. So yeah, pretty international character there. Most Americans assume I am a southern English type, most Brits assume I am American or sometimes even German/Scottish. I view myself as a somewhat technocratic European nationalist.

If that explains things.

If there's a next time, we should all crash in someone's house (I'll be in halls, just wait until the semester is over :p ) so everyone can do what they feel like without having to get home and arrange stuff...or indeed, be sober when talking to the hostel people ("Uh *hic* I'd like a bed for the *barf* *barf* *barfbarfbarf* night please"). Me too. And then I overcome that by acting like I'm not shy. So I get all boisterous, and people think that's how I really am, but I get so stressed from keeping up the act that I have to drink three times as much, and then at a certain point, I'm not acting anymore, I relax, the alcohol hits me, and I need to go home and pass out:)

I agree, we should definitely do this again. We'd get to hear more of Tink, and maybe have Tribes and some others along...would be cool. Who knows, maybe hav a real orgy, with traffic cones and everything, instead of going home sober.

I offer my monastery-like postgrad hall as a venue. Though maybe some place like Birmingham would be better for the more southern people.

Sadly I couldn't get drunk, as I had a job interview the following morning (went well, fingers crossed), and that's not quite my scene anyway. Although last New Year, I did get to do to the BBC building what a hundred million Americans only wish they could do. ;)

Oh yeah, about that interview...I got the job. :D

So now I'll be a junior dogsbody in a design bureau for supergrid transformers in a global engineering conglomerate the size of Luxembourg. :D

I know this is most people's idea of Hell...but I'm just fucking grinning. I've had enough experience to know that this is where I belong, and I've been working towards this for like, ever. So erm...woot? WTF, I'm going to be a real adult with crippling taxes and everything. :D

Luckily, I won't have to be responsible for another month, at which point I will try to feel out the general area where risk of explosions is reliably avoided. :p

As for EVE, you know where to find me, Cmdr Sy [ITFB] in Isaziwa. I have plenty of friends in other corps who would be willing to train up a nooblet, where I can set you up kinda depends on when you join the game. In fact, if ITFB falls apart in the meantime, my backup plan is to resurrect my old corp Off Balance Sheet Entity, so you would definitely be welcome in that. Individual acts of piracy is the name of the game in that.

Best of all, everyone uses TeamSpeak and headsets, so you'll always have people's actual voices for company.

BTW, http://www.eve-files.com/media/corp/gods/ for some of my screen-captured movies.

Otsasai Mission Fun and F-E_screwup are probably the best.

Watch F-E_screwup, that contains titles which explain all the action.

I use Fraps, recording at 25 fps, half screen res (1151x864 before reduction).

Then import into Windows Movie Maker 2.1, edit, overlay music, titles, transitions, compress using 2.1MB/s Local Playback codec.

Simple, really.

Silly US. Its rather hard to have a meet up here. Besides hardly anyone from Missouri (that I know of) actually plays NS, and the rest of the people I talk to are so spread out, argh! Missouri, Massachusetts and Texas are so NOT close.

Hah! Try living in Australia, where 'somewhere central' means in the middle of the desert! Sure, the country isn't as big, but we're WAAAY more spread out.

Australia's average population density is 2 persons per square km.

245 people per sq km in the UK, so damn overcrowded.

Me too. We would've all enjoyed the video of THAT escapade!!!! :D

Well there might be one...Tink did have a camera afterall...but I wouldn't really want to become infamous that way ;) :D

Hehe, but if another chance of a meet comes up, i'll be coming along.

But i think what everyone wants now is a video of Cog on DDR :D

Cha cha cha cha...cha cha cha...*spins* *falls* OWCH.....

That doesn't mean what it sounds like. It means we're all focused in the cities (once you account for the population of the capital cities, there's probably only about 4 million unaccounted for.

Oh, and tink, you DEFINITELY need to stop putting yourself down. You are most definitely hot.

Sydney's inner suburbs are quite dense.
