Is this their power or abuse of power

Ok, Ok, Ok. Yesterday, Memorial Day 2008. My Region, the Global Union of Nation was screwed up. This is what happened.

Around 10 AM yesterday the GUN Recruiter was deleted by the moderators for breaking the 24 hour recruiting rule. TWP had reported it, big deal. Not a problem.

Around 4-5 PM yesterday, the Grand Duchy of Kamchat typed up a song to mock the moderators and make fun of them. This is how it went:

M is for Malicious People that ruin everybody's day.

O is for Omnivores that eat nations and their people.

D is Devils that destroy everybody's fun.

E is Exhausting Aggravativing People

R is for Retarded Killers that launch nukes on poor innocent people.

A is for 8 which they did to our Recruiter for Breakfast.

T is for Treasoners that help crumble the game.

O is for Omnipresent Stalkers that watch all you Users.

R is for for Rotten Black Heart Individuals.

S is for pSychotic beings that scare all the children AWAY!!!!

Put it all together and what do you get, their called the MODERATORS!!

To the Tune of FUN from Spongebob!!!

The song was a hit in our region. We were expecting the mods to come in and make a sarcastic remark to give us some laughs in these inactive times.

The Song was nearing the top of the page, then it was the top. The Economic Democratic Republic of Consertino re-posted it for the region to see it.

Around 9 PM, Consertino was deleted. Consertino, according to the moderators spammed the RMB with the song so he was deleted.

As some of our nation stood up for him, after all he was our founder and President, they were all deleted. They hadn't posted any bad language (except for the Galactic Sith Order and Mandalorian Jedi) they were saying LONG LIVE CONSERTINO and wow you mods are evil. They were all deleted. Now the question I'm asking. Was it the Moderators Job to delete them, were they spamming the RMB? Or did the moderators abuse their power, and that song was not flaming but rather a form of free speech. Free Speech is not granted in the game but it is in the United States Constitution. And if the server is in New York City, that means American Laws apply, does it not?

No it doesn't. And it's a privately owned game. No Constitution applies.

Free speech within the United States is granted only in public locations - i.e. you can call Congress a bunch of buttheads in the middle of the street.

A private server doesn't constitute a public location. Therefore, the moderators were within their legal rights to delete anyone for anything they said. Having been a moderator for other locations, I tend to side with them in situations like this...it's hard enough doing the job without a group of spammers intent on making their days miserable.

The punishment was, perhaps, harsh...but not, in my opinion, unjustified. And definitely not an abuse of power.

If you have a complaint about a moderator's actions, you should go through the Getting Help page on the NationStates site. I believe there's something written down somewhere that says that a different moderator or group of moderators to the one who took the initial action will look at your case on its merits and come to a ruling.

Aye, good show.

Here is where it is written down.

There's also the fact that several nations from your region went and posted the song on the boards of various other regions including multiple feeders. You also had nations insulting the mods in all caps and kept at this for an extended period of time. just be thankful that those deleted haven't had their IPs banned and can return to the game with different nations as long as they behave and follow the rules.

Your region was not just making a joke, the song that was created was flaming of all moderators. And as Limitless Events noted, your regionmates then proceeded to post it elsewhere. As I'm not a Game Mod, I can't speak to the exact reason why people were deleted, but it should be pretty easy to see that whomever was posting that song was in the wrong.

Nothing is in the US except for you (apparently). The server is in the UK (hence the forum address), and the author of the game lives in Australia. Try again.

I once wrote a song about the moderators. Then, I used my better judgement, considered the ramifications of my actions, and chose to keep it to myself. I find myself not yet deleted, so I must have prayed at the right shrine or something. The two couldn't possibly be related. It would have been a hit, though. I'm sure of that. It was to the tune of "The Bad Touch," by the Bloodhound Gang. An instant classic, I tell you!

Far be it for me to correct a mod, but according to the News page (http://www.nationstates.net/36775/page=news) the main site is in the US.

Whoops, I forgot about that, thanks. I'll just reference the Terms and Conditions (http://www.nationstates.net/pages/legal.html) then. ;)
