Rebels take over Thive

Colstream
21-10-2007, 13:42
The Constitutional Monarchy of Thive had collapsed months earlier after a brutal civil war. The Republic Of Colstream had stayed after the Antigran Army had gone back to their homeland. But things were dire. Food was short, buildings ruined and the population was coming home from the camps.
The country had become a protectorate under the Republic Of Colstream to safeguard it from trouble. There was a small garrison of 10,000 soldiers left in the country. Thive City had been rebuilt and had a new parliament building. The Thive population had voted to be under Colstream Rule in a democratic state and had felt free for 3 months.

COLSTREAM WORLD NEWS

REBELS INVADE THE COLSTREAM REPUBLIC OF THIVE

Heavily Armed Rebels which had escaped the Colstream Civil War to Thive has captured the Capital Of Thive City. Tanks and APCs given to them by Communist terrorist has captured the parliament. The garrision was driven to Thive City harbour where Colstream Navy Troop Transports evacuated them out of the country. The Colstream President James Parker, has ordered a Taskforce to leave Colstream Territorial waters and set sail for Thive. The Government is already dealing with an attack on the Capital Ashland and had to be careful what forces they sent to the island.
They have dispatched the following forces:

Colstream Army:
1st Airborne Division
23rd Division
65th Division
32nd Division
Colstream Navy:
2nd Fleet-Consisting of:
2 Aircraft Carriers(Colstream Air Arm) CAC Ark Royal, CAC Texas

Dear Sir,

With some concerns, we have been watching the situation in the Republic of Thivedevelop. After internal discussion within the Ministry of Defence, and talks with both Premier Nicolas Hirtz and Grand Duke Koen van Luxemburg, we have decided to send a small taskforce (referred to as Thive Stabilisation Force, THISTAFOR) that will assist in stabilising the situation in the Republic. Currently, the Ministry of Defence has agreed to support a mission counting some 64 active soldiers. The actual mission will be around 100 people large, including both supply personnel and miscellaneous functions. We have not brought too much supply personnel, in the hope your military can supply our small force aswell. We can however act as a self-sufficient force within the organisation of your faction, and prefer to work together with your military, instead of being part of it.

As stated before, the troop that THISTAFOR consists of, 64 actual soldiers, will be armed according their functions, belonging to the 25th Mechanised Brigade of the Grand-Ducal Army (ground component). They have already taken delivery of some new vehicles recently, and will be flown in by military transport aircraft to Thive as quickly as possible. Their mission would be to provide a safe and stable area around the capital city, and could possibly include patrols inside of the city.

For the time being, I, Colonel Armando Bruno, will be the diplomatic mission to Colstream/Thive, while also being the commander of THISTAFOR. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mifoa) has not deemed Thive safe enough to place an embassy in Thive City.

Their vehicle inventory consists of a total of 10 vehicles, all of the M6 type. We have taken the liberty of supplying a short summary of the vehicles sent to Thive. Specifications can be found in the attached folder (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13005158&postcount=1)

THISTAFOR, Thive Stabilisation Force
25 Mechbrig, Groussherzogliche Arméi

2 M6a, Reconnaissance (5 men per vehicle, 10 men total)
4 M6a, Light Transport (7 men per vehicle, 14 men total)
2 M6b, Armoured Transport, Armed (14 men per vehicle, 28 men total)
2 M6b, Heavy Patrol Vehicle, Armed (6 men per vehicle, 10 men total)

They can arrive within several hours, if required. Their vehicles have already been loaded onto the designated transport aircraft, and the crews can board the aircraft in minutes, if the operation gets the go-ahead.

Signed,

Colonel Armando Bruno
Commander of JESTAFOR,
Ambassador to Jemtia,
Component of 25 Mechbrig,
Groussherzogliche Arméi,
Ministry of Defense,
The Grand Duchy of Van Luxemburg

(OOC: These troops are to be rediverted from their original mission in Jemtia, since I got no response there. The troops can land on a free airport in NS hours, and will mainly perform patrols just outside the city, to ensure the safety there. They have no air support, so THISTAFOR will have to be supported by other militaries. In emergencies, Colonel Bruno can free up parts of the 25 Mechanised Brigade to redeploy and aid THISTAFOR, but that would take a while. Any airport I can land at, just outside Thive City?)

Dear Sir,
We will have to capture or build an airfield when we force a landing as the whole country is occupied. The landing zone we have chosen is one that has an airfield about a mile from the coast which has to be captured before you land. The rebels are Communist Colstream Civil War Criminals supplied by Communist terrorists that are suspected to be responsible behind the Ashland Terror Attack. They have tanks, APCs and Aircraft. The total rebel army strength is about 400,000 men which includes terrorists and communist sympathisers. They have lots of experience and resolve. This will be a hard war and there will be heavy casualties.

Dear Sir,
Your offer of help has been accepted. I would like your forces to meet up with the Thive Taskforce heading from the Republic Of Colstream. The Terrain is mainly flat countryside with cities and the landing site that the Colstream Military Command has chosen is near to the Mountains to stop Communist forces retreating into the mountains. There is an airfield that has to be captured before reinforcements can be flown in BUT it could be destroyed the moment we land. This will be terrible war and i hope your forces are up to the challenge.

It has come to our attention that the Communist insurrection against legitimate authority within Thive is larger than Lyran calculations originally determined. To that end, in order to safeguard the sovereignty of the Colstream Republic, Task Force Epsilon, previously preparing to deploy to Alfegos, has been re-assigned.

Task Group Epsilon has recently completed its operations in Londim, and are ready to redeploy. For your reference, Task Group Epsilon consists of the 14th through to 88th Army Groups, which, after light casualties in combat, totals just shy of 40 million personnel. Executive Command also wish to advise that they shall watch the situation's development closely.

Should you wish it, the task group will depart for your territories upon receipt of your go ahead.

We accept your offer but that size of force is too big for the country. A force of 4,000 men plus logistics and aircraft will be enough. The Colstream Army will be the largest force in the campaign and the foreign forces will be in smaller numbers. This is to not confuse liberation with conquest in the eyes of the civilian population. They have been under occupation during their civil war and the scars echo still through their society and they have only just got used to being free. Please get back to us as soon as possible.

The First Air Strikes of the Thive War came over the Planned Landing Zone. 15 MK3 Vulcan Fighters Armed with 2 500lb bombs came diving out of the sky and attacked 5 85mm light howizer battery defence line causing chaos to the crews. All 5 guns were wiped out with the loss of the gun crews. 23 minutes later, 32 B52s armed with their maximum 70,000lb payload flew over their target, a food factory that had been taken over to make AK47s for the rebels. The B52s climbed to 9000 feet to avoid any flak. The first plane then dropped their load into the area. The factory was then hit many times causing heavy damage to soldiers in the area but no civilian casualties due to the factory being in an industrial area which was producing armaments rather than civilian products.

When we start landing your division will help secure the approaches to the mountains and stop any forces from retreating into them. You can be the blocking force to stop them making a stand in the mountains. Expect heavy casualties because that is where the rebels made a stand in the Thive Civil War and it took Air Power and Starvation of them to get them out. Is that an objective you agree on? You may need to bring in extra troops as the war progresses.

Nakón-Hír Harbor

The dark city echoed with the sound of boots. Columns of soldiers marsched through the city. Citizens who had waked of the noise looked out of their windows and saw hundreds of soldiers dressed in dark green, which some recognized as Storm Legionaries, marsch against the harbor. On the battlecruiser Medusa, general Hans von Greer saw the last soldiers board the transport ships. He turned to his adjutant. "Send the signal for departure".
The man saluted. "At once, General".
He disappeared into the communications centre. Greer could hear his voice as he exchanged codes and passwords with the coastal batteries.
Then he feeled that the boat began to move.
The young man came back. "We are moving, General".
Greer smiled. "Perfect. I´m going to sleep a few hours. Wake me if anything happens".
"Of course, General".

The task force known as group AWQ76 passed the coastal batteries protecting the harbor and went out at sea. If nothing went wrong, they would reach Thive within 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Defence we have no problems with the situation. Our troops will mainly participate behind the frontlines and fight smaller skirmishes. We have little intent to participate in head-on attacks or large combat operations.

My troops have already boarded their aircraft, and we are underway as we speak. We hope to arrive around 23:00 local time, and ready to move out one to two hours later. We will start our duties immediately, and set up a temporary base at the airfield for the time being.

23:30 Thive Local Time, an airfield near Thive City

The man was some 36 years old and clothed in a uniform of the Van Luxemburgian Arméi, Ground Component, Mechanised Troops, finished with a red baret that was loosely placed on it's head. His black hair partly showed under it, showing a powerful presence in cooperation with his blue eyes. The many decorative parts of the uniform made it reflective in the moonlight, which made it unfit for actual combat purposes. If one would look closely, he would see it was only an overcoat, under which a more appropriate uniform was worn. The man looked up to the night sky and slowly walked away from the aircraft that stood on the tarmac. There, several soldiers slowly rolled out the last of the Monteluci M6 4x4's, carefully lining it up next to the others and removing the air transport platforms.

Meanwhile, the man had sped up his walk and was discussing the situation with one of his subordinates. On his overcoat, the insignias for a Colonel of the Van Luxemburgian Arméi now clearly showed, and the light slightly bounced off the nametag aswell, showing the man's name. Col. A. Bruno it said, clearly stitched on the overcoat, the lettres in gold, the square black, finished by a small stitching in gold again.

'I see what you mean, Colonello, but our men really can't actually deploy before 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. The problem is that they need to rest, and I'm afraid they couldn't aboard the aircraft, as we had planned it.' The lieutenant said to him, using body language to enforce his words.

'Well, that'll have to do then, Lieutenant Moretti. Set up tents and send them to bed. I'll have a word with the commander here and then I'll be back aswell. Good luck, Lieutenant, I hope you can get the encampment ready in one hour.' Colonel Bruno spoke in a warm and friendly manner, and tried not to sound like he was giving orders.

While the Lieutenant answered with a short and informal salute, he walked away, back to the vehicles. The Colonel walked on, towards something which seemed to be a command post. As he stepped in, one could certainly see he did not blend in with the other unfiroms, and that he was of a different nationality. As he tapped the -seemingly - highest-ranking officer on the shoulder, he saluted before holding out his hand for a handshake.

'Colonel Bruno, THISTAFOR of the Van Luxemburgian Arméi. I'm glad to meet you. I hope to have my men ready by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning, since they still have to get some sleep. Is there already an area designated that we should patrol?' He asked, smiling at the commander of the Colstream Military.

Greers adjutant came out of the communications central. "Orders confirmed, sir. We are to disembark within a hour, then we will provide fire-support for the ground troops".
Greer nodded. "Good. Give the signal".
The young man saluted. "At once, sir".

The soldiers on aboard the transport ships entered smaller vessels which took them to the shore. The first soldiers who entered the shore quickly advanced 1 km to ensure they would not be counter-attacked. When no enemy forces were sighted, the rest of the troops also disembarked.

08:00 Thive Local Time- Day after invasion.

The 32nd Division moved forward under a heavy Artillery barrage using new MRLS Pieces recently bought from Lyras and hastly brought from the Colstream Mainland to bolster the Artillery pieces already ashore. The T80 MBTs in the armoured element moved cautiously followed by the Infantry element armed with AK47s and the Shock Troops carrying H&K G36s and RPKs move behind. Some Soldiers even had AKMs which were more modern but in shorter supply and could not be issued to the Infantry Element as well as the Shock Troops. The 1st Airborne Division, unusually moving on foot, but armed with their Standard AKSU 74 Assualt Rifles moved on their right flank with the 65th on the left and the 23rd in reserve. The Objective was to straighten the line before the Zaheran Troops entered the Central Front. The Other Foreign forces had mostly landed and was starting to enter their assigned sectors on the front. But the rebels had Aircraft and had started to attack the Ships off the shore. Anti-Aircraft Batteries on board the Colstream Cruisers pepper the incoming Fighters with shrapnel. There was even a bizarre sighting of 3 Cessna Stationair Light Transport Aircraft loaded with explosives crash into the coast causing huge explosions delaying the disembarkation of troops because of fear of more suicide attacks by rebels.
08:43
An E-8 Joint STARS Battlefield Surveillance Aircraft flew over the Bridgehead. The Plane flew over several times photographing the whole front and then sending its findings to the Combined Taskforce Headquarters (CTSHQ) as information for planning further operations.
23:00- Thive City
4 F117A Stealth Fighters and 4 B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers flew over Thive City. The Target was a Power Grid supplying the Main Industrial Area its power. The Bombers flew directly over and dropped their stack of 1 500lb bomb onto the power grid. 30 Seconds later the grid was destroyed and power was immediately lost in the industrial area. This also disabled the radar site nearby.
23:32
57 B52s flew over the Industrial Area. The Crews didn't have to worry as the Anti Aircraft Missile Batteries and the searchlights had been disabled by the destroyed power grid. The B52s drop to 5000 feet and drop their payload of 30 1000lb bombs. The firestorm that followed was so large that the troops at the front could see the fire clearly without any Nightvision Goggles on. The Area was consumed by fire and there is still many days to go untill the war is over.

A C-130 Cargo plane bumped along the runway. Above, more C-130s and their escorts circled in wait. As the IFVs from the first C-130 rolled off the plane and away from the runway, it took off making room for another. After ten minutes, the IFVs had all rolled off their planes and assembled. Their drivers and commanders quickly met.

A very built, weathered a tough colonel was in command. Colonel Adkins, a vet of many conflicts.

'' Alright boys, we've been tasked with assisting the Rotivian army in the capture and defense of the southern part of this airfield. I spoke briefly with the Colstream commander. We're taking the southwestern side, Rotivia will have the southeast. If you look at your maps you will see where I want your IFVs positioned. Exercise caution though, their may be civilians iin the area. Good luck troops.''

With his speech given, the drivers and commanders got into their IFVs and drove down towards the southern part of the airfield. Along the edge was a mostly broken chain link fence. The IFVs took positions along this fence and the soldiers got out, taking up positions between IFVs. The C-130s left, however a few escorts remained in the area to provide limited air support.

To Orbathia:

That's Okay. I don't know about the other forces but our medical teams are integrated into the Divisions so they are with them as they go into battle and has better co-ordination with them than if they were a seperate formation.
We are currently bringing in newly purchased Medical IFVs and we have set up at the Combined Taskforce Headquarters (CTSHQ) a combined Army field hospital for our wounded. The Combined Taskforce Headquarters (CTSHQ) is where the generals will meet and discuss any problems and where intelligence is analysed and where orders are issued from rather than at seperate HQs.
Do you agree this is a good idea?

04:35 Thive Time. 2 Days after the Invasion.

The 32nd Division halted at it's new positions. The T80 MBTs in the armoured element moved into position followed by the Infantry element and the Shock Troops close behind. The 1st Airborne Division had dug in next to the 32nd divisions with the 65th on the left and the 23rd now on it's right flank. The line had been straightened the Zaheran Troops had entered the Northern Front and had occupied their sector. The other foreign forces had also occupied their sectors along the fronts and were holding every counterattack the rebels gave them.

12:35 Colstream Time- Ashland.

James Parker looked at the Ashland Times. The headline on the front page read, "COLSTREAM ARMY AND FOREIGN FORCE'S LAND IN THIVE." He then looked up as he heard a knock on the door. "Come in" he replied. His Foreign Minister, Harry Nerveat came in. " Sorry to disturb you sir, but we have learned that The Kingdom Of Zandera has asked that there is a peace conference to solve the conflict." "No", James Parker replied. " We will never negotiate with these beasts. Send a reply saying that we will not consent to a peace conference stating the fact that the rebels are hiding war criminals and will have to be driven out of Thive by force." " Okay Mr President." The Foreign Minister left the room. "Negotiate" James Parker said to himeslf. " Its not an option."

Dear Your Highness,
We are sorry but President James Parker has not agreed to the peace conference you asked to due to several issues:
1. Colstream Civil War Criminals are operating in the area.
2. Thive Civil War Criminals are operating in the area
3. The Country is too unstable and must be taken back by force.
4. Our policy is not to negotiate with terrorists and especially ones we think commited the terror attack that happened in our capital Ashland.

The Airfield, 08:00 the next morning.

Lined up behind eachother, the Monteluci's waited to go on a combat patrol the first time. Soldiers walked around and inspected the vehicles for the last time, while a mechanic quickly checked through the engine of the last vehicle, to make sure all vehicles would be producing the best results. The large 6 litre V6 Diesel engine developed 315 PS, which meant the vehicle was quite fast, and the Arméi preferred to keep it that way. As the mechanic slamme dthe hood of the vehicle, he nodded to the driver, who started the engine and allowed it to run stationary, before revving the vehicle. Unlike the vehicles of some special military units, this M6 had not been extensively silenced to make sure it would deliver optimal performance. This also meant an impressive roar came from the large double exhaust, not obstructed by any silencing measures besides the exhaust system itself.

'That should be all. Good luck out there.' The mechanic spoke to the driver, as the vehicle slowly accelerated, following the others.

As the 4x4's drove off the base, they quickly accelerated, but kept the speed down to focus on their patrol mission. As the minutes passed, the vehicles drove further and furtehr away from the airfield, navigating on their military GPS systems. While everything seemed quiet, the vehicles approached a small village, which made Bruno decide to halt the column of vehicles and scout ahead.

'All vehicles halt. Try to get all vehicles off the main road, and let Lieutenant Moretti report to me.'

Some minute later, the vehicles had been put next to the road, and mostly hidden behind bushes and low trees. From one of the Reconaissance M6a's, Bruno had taken a pair of binoculars and observed the village. It was hard to estimate the actual number of inhabitants present, since there was almost nobody on the streets. A suppressed scream came from Lieutenant Moretti, as he pointed towards one of the houses. As Colonel Bruno pointed his binocular towards the house, he could see a small group of rebels, who were also on combat patrol, presumably. Their assault rifles loosely hanging in their arms, some smoking a cigarette and joking with eachother. They didn't seemed to be in a hurry, nor did they seem to be motorised or very alert.

As Colonel Bruno saw all this, he began whispering to Lieutenant Moretti, trying to be as silent as possible.

'Get Caporal van Eethen over here. He's got the AWSM, hasn't he?' The Colonel spoke, after which Moretti nodded and engaged his radio headset, which made it possible for him to communicate with other teammembers. Moments later, a third person crawled towards the forward position where the M6a had been placed. He nodded as a sort of improvised salute, before positioning the sniper rifle the correct way.

'Caporal Van Eethen ready, Sir.' He whispered, looking at the Colonel.

'Great, Caporal. Get your gear ready, and try to aim for those rebels over there. Hold fire until I can say you can shoot one of them. If you're able to, try to pick the highest-ranking first. We will open fire immediately after you have shot the first rebel.' Bruno whispered, while also engaging his radio headset.

'Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready for an engagement. Hold fire until Caporal Van Eethen has fired the first shot, then you can open fire at the group of rebels patrolling that village at 12 o'clock. Make sure you don't get seen before that, I want this to be swift and silent.'

'Ready, Colonel.' Van Eethen spoke, right after Bruno had finished giving orders. While confirmations came in from every vehicle, Caporal Van Eethen solidified his grip on the weapon, before firing the shot. As the bullet catapulted out, the echo began reaching out to the other vehicles, which also opened fire on the village and the confused rebels within it. The heavy hammering of .50 calibre MG's mounted on most M6's, the monotone sound of 7.62x51mm FN Minimi's, aswell as the continuous bursts of the JK-13 Assault Rifles produced a cacophony of different sounds, sometimes aided by the woosh of a vehicle-mounted Heckler & Koch GMG, followed by an explosion of the 40mm grenade inside the village. Heavy smoke began to obstruct the view for both the attackers and defenders, which made the Colonel cease fire.

'All units, cease fire. Wait for the smoke to clear and pick your targets carefully. Make sure you remain unseen, out.'

(OOC: I need someone to RP the rebels here. Preferably Colstream, as he knows how they would behave, but anyone else would be OK. I would also like to have a name for the small village, if possible.)

The Village of Gritantia was a small farming community, but had been captured on the day after the rebels took over. The inhabitants had been imprisoned in a farmhouse barn and kept under guard.
Corporal Van Eethen's shot went through a rebel sentries eye and deep into his brain. Then as the Heavy Weapons sprayed heavy fire, a Rebel BMP-1 IFV appeared and several rebels toting RPG-7s spill out. One rebel fires narrowly missing one M6 and hitting a nearby tree. Then a rebel 6x6 BTR-152 APC mounting a 7.62mm MG opens fire on the left flank peppering the M6s with bullets. A rebel fires a flare into the sky. The flare is answered by 6 shells falling straight in front of the Troops. Several other BMP-1 IFVs appeared carrying fresh troops.....

The 32nd Division moved forward cautiously as the T80s move again. Selected Infantry Soldiers had even aquired AKMs which were too expensive for all the Infantry to have the same weapon. The Shock Element moved out of their positions. The 1st Airborne Division was moving next to the 32nd Division with the 65th on the left and the 23rd on it's right flank. The line was being moved 7 miles was to support the Van Luxemburg Troops who had entered the Farm Community village of Gritantia and were under heavy fire. Also Zaheran Army forces had reached the Mining village of Trebiantha and was also under fire. The Colstream Army had light but opposition because of the other attacks going on. The Front elements were under light bombardment but as the forces moved, the positions of the Communist forces in Trebiantha and Gritantia was getting more dangerous.

10:02

Suddenly a Machine Gun in a pillbox opened up on the 32nd Divisions left flank. A soldier with his P140 Tactical Combat Radio asked for an airstrike to destroy the pillbox. A MK3 Vulcan appeared 3 minutes later and dropped 2 cluster bombs onto the pillbox. The explosion engulfs the strongpoint. A mimute later a MK1 Crocodile Flamethrower Tank is brought up and a burst of flame is fired into the remains of the strongpoint. Several soldiers on fire run out screaming. They are cut down by fire from a 30MM Cannon mounted on a BTR-90 APC followed by a burst from its 30MM Grenade Launcher and a rocket from its AT-5 Spandrei ATGW Launcher. The Divisions were ordered to halt to allow the Van Luxemburg and Zaheran forces to straighten the front. Several BMP-2 IFVs and BMP-3 IFVs arrive to drop off refreshed soldiers and evacuate any wounded that the divisions had to the Combined Forces Hospital that had been set up.

(OOC: Humvee equivalent versus IFV... Ouch.)

Village of Gritantia

'BMP-1, Hostile, 11 o'clock.'
'BMP-1, Hostile, 12 o'clock'

Laying under cover of several bushes, Colonel Bruno observed the fight, while also occasionally firing his assault rifle.

'This is Number 3, a BMP round just ricocheted off the side of the vehicle. So far they missed, but it won't take long before they willl......' The radio transmission turned into static as a RPG-7 missile penetrated the M6 number 3, and completely went through it, coming out the other side before exploding, leaving a sizeable hole in the side. A few men were left heavily wounded, but were pulled out of the wreckage by others, before the Van Luxemburgian troops destroyed the M6 by rigging it with explosives and blowing it up, to ensure the wreckage couldn't be salvaged by the rebels.

'This is Colonel Bruno, All units, retreat! I'll be calling in air support on this area, we can use our speed to get out of here. Those BMP's are way slower than we are, we can outrun them easily.'

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Moretti was already on the radio with the airfield, trying to get some air cover while returning to base.

Attention all units, this is THISTAFOR of Van Luxemburg. We are in need of air support near the town of Gritantia, I repeat, Air support near Gritantia. Cannot hold, repeat, cannot hold. Air support, repeat, Air support.

Meanwhile, the fighting went on, with Van Luxemburgian troops having taken up Anti-Tank missiles aswell. Eryx missiles in cooperation with Starstreak AA missiles (which had been tested against AT targets aswell) were fired by several troops at the BMP's, while the GMG on one of the M6'es continuously spewed it's 40mm grenades at the enemy. Meanwhile, the other troops began to retreat, leaping back inside of the M6 4x4's. As the vehicles began retreating, troops still fired from the sides and back of the vehicles, while the top-mounted vehicle weapons fired their deadly ammunition. The M6'es rapidly accelerated to 80 km/h, before returning on the road and driving even faster, where speeds up to 130 km/h were measured. Since the BMP's were far slower, the troops already began to feel safe after several minutes, but kept up their top speed and soon returned at the base. There, the Colonel and the Lieutenant quickly evaluated the mission. 1 M6a lost, 2 men were heavily wounded and 2 others light. None had been killed, which was a remarkable achievement, even with the troops wearing full body armour and had a technological advantage over their rebel counterparts. Still, both the Colonel and the Lieutenant wondered why the enemy could've come up with so much troops in such a short while. After a short discussion, they had established their would need to be a base nearby. One thing however, was for sure: The destroyed M6 would not be something the rebels would get away with.

(OOC: Infantry can't run 130 km/h, do they? The M6 is one of the fastest military ground vehicles around. Downside is that their armour is pretty light. Oh, well... Anyways... I must say that this post was somewhat hastily constructed, and is somewhat under-standard for me.)

Near Gritantia, a few hours later.

The 9 M6'es were extensively camouflaged, so that they could not be seen by hostile troops. From the vehicles, they had a supreme view of the town, which was now sprawling with activity after the attack that had been done a few hours before. The ashes of M6 number 3 still seemed to light up, even though it had been hours ago it was blown up on purpose by friendly troops.

Now, down in the grass in front of the vehicles, several groups of infantry, all carrying a radio and binoculars, aswell as advanced spotting equipment, overlooked the town of Gritantia. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Moretti was attempting to stabilise a connection with the air support coming from aircraft of the Colstream Airforce.

'This is THISTAFOR calling all air assets in the area. We are ready to start spotting targets for ground runs on the town of Gritantia. Repeat, ready for spotting in Gritantia.' He spoke, keeping his voice down, but still audible.

As the connection had been established, the infantry groups started to transmit the target data they spotted using their laser pointers, to the aircraft flying high up in the sky.

(OOC: I see you posted.)

The large gaps in the road, left after the strike, were hardly a problem for the agile and able M6 4x4's. Using their advanced Hydropneumatic Vehicle System in combination with the 6-liter Commercial V6 Diesel developing 1100 Nm, the vehicles zig-zagged inbetween the craters or sank deep into the craters, emerging out of them moments later. After they had formed a renewed line after the craters, the vehicles quickly entered the town. While still alert for new attacks, the 4x4's moved on from house to house, until they had arrived the other side of town. It was mostly clear, while small pockets of resistance were quickly silenced using the vehicle's powerful MG's and 40mm automatic grenade launchers. As the infantry got out of the vehicles, they moved from house to house as a safety precuation, before reaching the farmhouse.

They once again used the same method as with all other houses, breaching the door and then storming in, before clearing out the home room by room. However, the troops didn't find rebels, but were surprised to find the inhabitants of Gritantia, all locked up in the same farmhouse. as they released the population, the infantry quickly counted them, and compared it to the previous information they had been given. The population was complete, Gritantia was secured, for now.

2 rebel MIG-25 Foxbat Inteceptors attacked the Air Cover over Gritantia. The Aircraft are easily overwhelmed by 6 Mk3 Vulcan Fighters. As this is going on, several BMP-1 IFVs drop off some Infantry and then slip back unseen.

By the time the mortar barrage started, the troops had taken up defensive positions after the liberation of the village. Some emn were wounded by the mortar barrage as a shell hit the roof of a house where several soldiers had taken up positions. As soon as the barrage ceased, the M6'es slowly moved forward, the 'b' versions using the thermal imagers on the Remote-controlled weapon station to look for infantry.

Soon after the initial attack, Colonel Bruno realised he had a strong position: his 60-or-so men would outnumber the enemy force, which primarily consisted of infantry. He then gave orders to an M6 which had been equipped with a GMG, to continuously shell the enemy with it's 40mm grenades. As the grenades began landing inbetween the infantry troops, the heavy .50 MG's on the other vehicles also opened fire, while infantry units also mixed in the fight, opening up from windows and from corners. Meanwhile, Caporal Van Eethen steadily fired into the enemy infantry, shot after shot. This counterattack would not be succesful.

As the rebel infantry moved forward, their CO, Kevin Gretur, wanted to wait before committing the heavily armed troops. He then suddenly ordered the 8 remaining BMP-1s to come on the Van Luxemburgs left flank. They reached their positions unseen. The rebels then disembarked with a 60MM GL and unhooked a 90MM Anti-Tank Howizer from the back of a Jeep. They suddenly attacked on the left flank hoping to take the forces completely by surprise.
But suddenly a 3 Man Wing of MK5 Viper Fighter Bombers spots them and destroys the 90MM Anti Tank Howizer before it can be set up and takes out 5 of the BMP-1s sending them flying killing 15 out of the 32 reinforements going forward. The rebels ran for their lives as the machine guns tear through the attacking infantry. One Flamethrower operator has his tank punctured causing him and the tank on his back to explode in a huge fireball. It engulfs 3 other men including another Flamethrower Operator causing secondary explosion.
Suddenly a newly aquired Colstream Air Force A-10 Close Support Aircraft flew down onto the rebels firing its trademark Internal 30mm GAU-8 Cannon on its nose tearing through them as they fled. Their CO Kevin Gretur, then ordered a general retreat to the River Plante, a river 1 mile west of Gritantia and is the main river that surrounds the whole beachead.

Dear Sir,

This letter officially announces our resignation from active frontline duties. From now on, THISTAFOR will operate as a law enforcement agency behind the front lines, dedicated to keep life in Thive safe after the rebels have been driven away.

This decision was made by me and my troops, after a meeting which resulted in an unanimous vote to resign from active front line duties. We concluded that our unit (counting 9 vehicles and 58 able soldiers as we speak) is unable to continue it's task on a standalone mission, and that the contingent which is THISTAFOR is underpowered to take on these duties in combined arms operations. Therefore, we have contacted the Ministry of Defence in Van Luxemburg, which will sent us the required materials to do Military Police tasks behind the front line.

We can be contacted for riots, policing tasks and escorts, amongst many other things. We hope to be able to prove a worthy addition to the troops behind the frontlines.

At the same time, the reinforcements had arrived. Three centurias disembarked and began to move to the frontline...

Trebiantha was burning. Nothing of the once proud community was left. There was a lot of wrecked houses plus the sight of the once proud church partially destroyed. As the legionnaires moved out, there was an stange quiet and even after a large battle like that, there was even the sound of some birds singing...................

The commander once again got on the radio.

'' H.Q., we have taken losses, some injured, requesting medievac, over.''

After he had sent the message, the forces that had ruck marched arrived. He ordered them to assist in tending to the injured and collecting the dead. He then ordered the mortars to fire again. First they fired high explosive shells, then the coordinates were changed and they fired tear gas shells. He then ordered his troops to attack.

The IFVs and tanks rolled up onto the top of the hill, spreading out and taking up positions quickly. They then let loose with the large guns of the tanks, 30mm guns, chain guns, 105mm guns and 40mm grenade launchers. The infantry troops poured from the back of the IFVs taking up positions between them. They fired everything they had as well. Snipers chose higher ranking targets and fired on them.

It was necessary to drive out the rebels. If we had not shelled the city we would have lost many soldiers. Homes can be rebuilt; a dead father, husband, brother or son can not be replaced.

22 Fresh Divisions came ashore on large Eagle Troop Helicopters. They were required to use their vehicles to get to the front as fast as possible. There was also 170 new 120MM Artillery pieces being moved with the vehicles and also 120 T72 MBTs were destined for the front. There was also a new type of aircraft in the sky, the MK1 Buzzard Fighter. It had entered the air battle early this morning and had made a good partnership with the MK3 Vulture Fighters taking out 24 rebel MIGs.

09:00

12 of the 22 fresh divisions arrived at the front and the divisions that had fought from the beginning of the campaign up to now was relieved. The Divisions that were heading to the rear areas to rest had lost 32 men, 12 Artillery Pieces and 7 Tanks.

11:00

A large artillery barrage using the new 120MM Light Guns is launched using a new High Explosive shell. The effect on the defenders is immediate. The front defences disappear in a carpet of High Explosive.

12:01

Operation Storm is launched. Pontoon Bridges built during the lull in fighting is crossed by 16 divisions with the other 10 in reserve. Rebel defensive Positions were bypassed and destroyed by aircraft as the divisions charged west for the port of Jungera on the Western Coast and aiming to cut Thive in half trapping 20 rebel divisions in the north........

21st Army Group had advanced 10 miles. They had only 30 miles until the reached the port of Jungera on the Western Coast cutting Thive in half. There had been heavy resistance on the outskirts of some villages so the Tanks had bypassed them so the Infantry could mop up after the Tanks had passed. Most Unmechanised Infantry like the normal Infantry elements was employed to this task as the Mechanised Infantry was assigned the task of keeping up with the Tanks due to the threat of Anti Armour Troops. Fighters like the Mk 1 Buzzard and Mk3 Vulcan had destroyed countless enemy fighters clearing the way for the MK5 Viper Fighter Bombers to strafe enemy troops concentrations and enemy held villages and towns. There had been several enemy cargo ships trying to leave Thive City Harbour but had been seen and sunk by a Typhoon Class Submarine.

They turned and headed back towards the airfield. The IFVs crossed and pulled ropes across to allow troops to build rope bridges. Within the hour, everyone was across the river. The commander checked over his map. Their were a couple routes he could take but he decided to make a suprise attack. He would follow the road for a few miles before turning and heading into a deep wood.

After a few hours rest, 21st Army Group went on the attack again. The 21st Army Group's Tanks started to pass untouched villages and the inhabitants were saying that the rebels were trying to escape south to Thive City. There was hardly any rebel aircraft in the sky which made the job of clearing the rebels more easier. The CFHQ back at the airfield thought that the remaining rebel aircraft were being saved for later attacks. The 21st Army Group had yet to recieve the 2 Antigran Airborne Divisions which would be commited in the atttack on the capital after this offensive.

All the 250 B52s from the Airfield entered the sky over the Thive City Industrial Estate. Armed with their full 70,000lb Payload they flew in a large formation and opened their bomb bay doors. The first B52 dropped its payload over the target, the Carlola Munitions Factory. The other B52s followed suit and thousands of bombs dropped into the Industrial Esate below. The resulting esplosions crippled the Industrial Estate's capacity to produce weapons indefinitely and diverting their production to the factories outside Thive City. Fires burned blocking out the rising sun. Rebels tried to put out the flames but the factory and several around it was burned to the ground and several water mains was destroyed. The Casulaties around the Industrial Estate is unknown at the moment.

The infantry would be much easier to deal with. IFVs charged forward, firing their various weapons. Infantry instead took up positions among logs, trees and bushes. Most layed in the prone position allowing them to lay down more accurate fire. The IFVs halted, staying far enough away from the mines so not to be damaged. The infantry waited for the rebels to cross through and be blown up.

21st Army Group's tanks met a huge concentration of enemy T54 tanks. The rebel tanks were driven back causing heavy casualties and wiping out the last of the rebel's tanks completely. The Armour then made a sweeping movement to encircle the rebel fortress town of Higtana to encircle it and then moving on to establish a line 10 miles north of the capital.

The last 250 strong B52 raid appeared over Thive City. The B52s flew over the City and dropped their bombs randomly into the streets below to destroy buildings that had been fortified or reinforced to help 21st Army Group advance more easily.

About 200 Storm Legionaries now rested at the bottom of the sea. Later, their bodies would be recovered and buried. Now, there was other business to take care of. The first boats reached the shore. The legionaries rushed out, filled with rage against those who had killed their comrades. Maximilian waded through the cold water, firing his assault rifle against the enemy. "Oceanus!", he screamed, "Oceanus and the Emperor!"
His men took up the battlecry. Soon, all the soaking wet legionaries screamed it as they waded through the water, looking like ghosts in their grey uniforms and pale skin. "Oceanus! Oceanus!"

"Jungera Airport ATC to Antigran Flight, permission granted to land on Runway 1, fuel tanks have been alerted and waiting. Antigran Flight do you copy?"

"Roger. Coming in to land in thirty seconds"

Durram let his co-pilot steer the plane. He had got rapidly-learnt experience from combat. He eased the throttles, and the two Antigran McCraw 503A engines quietened. Flaps up. Durram yelled into the flight's own mini PA.

"Touching down, hold onto your garter belts!"

Thirty seconds later. The flight touched down. The fueselage juddered as the rear wheels hit solid tarmac. The flight engineer opened the cockpit door and looked into the main cargo bay, equipped with bench seats and holding the 51st Airborne. (or at least, part of it)

As soon as the plane slowed down, taxied, and found a convenient parking spot, a fuel truck approached, and it's crew leaped out.

The rear ramp-door and side doors were opened and the men walked out, carrying bergens on their backs, a small bottle of Antigran skour (whiskey/coke/apple juice mixture) on their helmets and cramp in their knees.

Planes from all over followed suit, transports of all sizes, bomber and fighter support, helicopters, et cetera.
The soldiers walked towards the terminal in hope of pillaging the coke machine, amid the drone of more aircraft.

02:00

The 2 Antigran Airborne Divisons got their orders. They had to enter the front line at a position in the Northern Outskirts of Thive City. Some soldiers knew that area well, as they had fought there when trouble occured the last time in Thive. This time they would face an estimated 1 million rebels armed with better equipment than last time and also they still had Thive Airport under their controil which housed the remaining 156 rebel fighters. Their objective was to secure the airport ready for the Colstream Air Force to bring in their Fighters and Fighter Bombers so to have more time over the battlezone instead of having to fly 40 miles north to Jungera to refuel and come back.

Sections of troops secured artillery guns. Rather than blowing them up, like they had planned, they decided to secure them and possibly use them later.

Vulkovaer was up front with his men, atop a MVCo command vehicle. He watched the seconds hand on his watch bring the time up to 06:05. He decided he would move then. Then - is now.

He brought up a radio mouthpiece with lightning speed.

"All units! Roll 'em! Go! Go! GO!"

As soon as he said this, every vehicle in the Battle Group, containing every person in the Battle Group, moved forward as one.

Vulkovaer held onto a handrail to regain his balance, then making sure the V60 Heavy Machine-Gun on his left was loaded and cocked.

He watched as the vehicles moved at full speed across the fields. Not long now.

20 soldiers died immediately. The others threw themselves to the ground, firing their AK-74:s at the enemy. A soldiers screamed into the comlink that they were under attack. The 80 trapped soldiers took cover behind buildings, the ruined roadblock, empty vehicles and whatever they could find. One soldier had a anti-tank missiles, which he fired against the APC:s. The rest of the army had heard the call for help and now rushed to defend their trapped comrades.

A rebel officer knew that he couldn't get his APCs to flank the Zaheranian soldiers due to the fact that he had no fuel left. He then saw a large concentration of Zaheran Army soldiers and armour moving towards the village. He then got down from his Operations Post and went into the bunker, ready to fight to the last man. As the first reinforcements approached, a heavy machine gun opened fire. A Zaheranian soldier armed with an RPG fires by the shell fails to penetrate the concrete. They had to find another way............

The convoy ground to a halt and returned fire.

Vulkovaer was up front, and radioed for support. Not that they couldn't handle it, but [friendly] artillery was always welcome.

"Alpha three, this is spearhead, we're pinned down. I want some heavy artillery at these coordinates..."

Soon, very soon, a salvo of at least 100 105, 155, and 203mm shells began to rain down.
Half high-explosive packed with an outer coat of flechettes, and half incendiary.

Vulkovaer grabbed the handle of the V60 HMG and mowed down a few enemies.

Using their training, the took up positions along buildings, moving quickly but carefully. They quickly spread out, covering several streets. They advanced further into the village, linking up with Bravo Section. They advanced upon the building where the civilians were held. They donned gas masks and began lobbing tear gas into windows. Captain Jeffries was one of the first to see the surrendering rebels and the gap they'd left.

He yelled to the driver of his MT-85C Marauder Main Battle Tank - a new breed of the tank, fitted with built-in NERA armour, a new turret, ATGM, and a 30mm coaxial - to advance at medium speed.

"Could be a trap" Jeffries said. "We've seen plenty of our share o' those"

Jeffries grabbed a 10-second drink of warm water from the refreshments dispenser before going over to the 30mm cannon, making sure it was loaded.

His gunner, Kiref, loaded a shell of high explosive incendiary and readied the awesome autoloader for a rapid three-and-a-half-second switch to armour piercing, if need be.

Other tanks and MICVs followed suit, spaced out to form a more difficult non-centralised target.

Some infantry had dismounted and were sticking close behind tanks and MICVs, which were going at jogging speed, ready to receive the surrendering rebels and gun down any playing the hero.

Their Colonel had already radioed for artillery and attack helicopters, miles away, to be ready to fire in ten seconds. Being cautious is better than being reckless.

Good day to you sir. I am writing on behalf of the Orbathain Ministry of Defense, the Orbathain Military and the Orbathain President. Firstly we would like to say it was a pleasure assisting you in removing the rebel presence. It is always a good thing to be able to make our world safer. Secondly, we would like to offer a sum of 1.2 Billion Dollars as money to be used for the reconstruction of anything damaged during the conflict. Thirdly, we would to ask if we may establish a military base inside of Thive. This military base would allow us to project our power quicker, allowing us to respond to threats like this much quicker. We would also be glad to help in reconstruction, especially of the Plante river bridges.

The thread " COlstream Treaty Ratifies Divide" is a new thread and it explains that the Republic Of Colstream has split in 2 after growing inside political pressure. There is no civil war as the East Colstream Army only has 40 divisions and we have 250 and we are still trying to build up to 260 divisions. There is a fortified border seperating us as well with 4 heavily controlled crossing points. Could you establish a base with forces on it to help counter any threat as our Intelligence is suggesting that the East Colstream Government is building up their forces. We hope you answer soon.

In light of the recent events we ask for permission to build a small miltary base in Thive. The base will, if built, contain 500 military personnel and 1,000 civilians. We would also like to build a monument to the 400 soldiers that died on Thivean soil. We congratulate the Republic of Colstream for it´s resolve and courage in the war, and for gaining the trust of the people of Thive, which we believe it´s the reason for victory in the election.

The United Federal Republic would also like to build a small base for security patrols and such until we pull out completely.

We wish for it to be somewhat effective, and thus wish permission for 6000 personnel - an armoured brigade - to be contained within.
It, if permission provided, will have a hospital, open to civilians too, a 'police station' so the military police can assist in civilian matters if required, & a small airstrip.

We would also like to follow in Zaheran footsteps and build a monument for all lost in Thive.

I didn't found the ADAN. Dephire did. I was a rather late joiner, who was taken in and rose to high positions because 70% of the other members were sign-up-and-forget n00bs who were all booted out at ADAN v3.0. Dephire is rather inactive now, so HT and me are the 'leaders' most active. I just happened to start the ADAN v3.1 thread, and changed the roster a little.

In short, not being humble or boasting, I joined late but worked hard, earned respect, stayed on through hard times and rose to high positions for my skills and non-sign-up-and-forget n00bishness.

Thats the attitude that i will adopt. It is the best one to take cause the alliance works properly.
