Gold Mine Crisis (MT, Open)

Uiri
16-09-2007, 02:05
"Today, a cave in has trapped 20 miners in a gold mine in South-Western Uiri. The cause of the cave in is of yet unidentified but there are several search-and-rescue teams who will probably be charging the mining co. The family of these miners are scared and hope that none of them died. Here's what one of the miner's wife had to say:

'I sure hope Ronad is ok. He always says he is careful but I know his work conditions aren't safe. I just hope he isn't dead and that if he's injured it isn't serious and that he isn't down there for...' at this the woman burst into tears.

In a related news, the stocks of the company which owns and operates the mine have been rising steadily over the past weeks. Tomorrow they are expected to go down. Will the rich of Uiri still have their gold? This is what a rich businessman had to say:

'The gold is the most precious of the metals mined in Uiri. I like my gold watch and my gold hub caps a lot. My daughters and wife loves gold jewelry too. If we can't get our gold we may put money to rescuing the miners to get our gold.'

Thank you and on to Jon with the weather, to you, Jon..."

The people of Uiri thank you for your people's prayers and drill and ghost operatives. We, the Uir Government, hope that this doesn't spark a war or anything like that due to lack of workplace safety regulations or anything like that.

I would like to purchase stock in this fine company as soon as possible, and explore the possibility of a trade between our two fine corporations. You sell us raw gold ore, we refine the ore and fashion it into jewellery, then sell the jewellery back to you. We hope you accept.

We shall accept your offer, but we are indeed in a sticky situation, if the Uir Government finds out what caused the collapse... let's just say we're glad to be partners.

I shall ask no questions, no secret you might have is worse then the public facts that we have, particulary those related to Capiline and Siriusa. If you feel it is necessary, we have highly trained mercenaries for hire. They would be more then capable of keeping snoops out. For you, a mere fifty thousand for a legion. We can use a ten year payment plan if necessary. I am so glad that their is no 'questionable' business tactics in Vantania. May I suggest bribing the searchers and letting the mercenaries take care of the rest?

No, there is no way that they can find out except for the miners. As long as the miners are dead there is no reason to worry, the Uir Govt will probably just list it as a minor earthquake or something similiar.

We have found an interest in your gold mines. Our nation is a leader manufacturer of oil *if I can say that...xD* but is far behind in the gold mine race. Our government would like to purchase some of your gold mines, or even rent them. The price will be available for bargain...

I see. I'm going to assume you caused the cave-in to insure the secrets lie buried. Perhaps having a pocket of poison gas opened up would insure they were dead even if the miners were discovered rapidly?

We shall let you rent the mine for the supplier's price of the gold you get. That's about 75% of the market price. How is that?

That will suffice. Miners and soldiers, men just sent for the defense of the gold mines, will be sent to your nation. The price is fairly reasonable and we will take advantage of the offer. We accept.

Thank you and good day.

The King of Maui Covenant issues his sympathy to the Uir. If you need to supplement your economy the Kingdom is a major exporter of gold, however, we should you do this we would like to form a defensive military and economic alliance in return.

No, actually it wasn't anticipated for another week or two. The problem with killing them with intention is that an autopsy will reveal how they died. Thank you for the offer though.

Will we be billed for the cost of the soldiers, or is it a token of good faith/trust/something related? If we shall be billed we request that it waits until the crisis is resolved.

Reply from the Uir Government

We are not in need of gold personally although we shall not prohibit you from setting up shop and selling gold in the capitol of Uiri, Gogari. It is where the biggest gold/jewelry sales are.

This is as an act of good faith. That and for security of the Maldorian miners and the Uirian gold mine. These are Mandalorian Colonial soldiers, so thus, we will be paying for their upkeep.

Thank you for the question and good day.

The adjective is Uir or for plural, Uirè. Thank you for your soldiers although I advise them not to enter until the twenty miners are saved/accounted for. We trust that you trust that the mine is stable.

NEWS UPDATE

"Thanks to the Foreign drills and ghost ops as well as Uir efforts five of the miners have been accounted for. another two have been found, dead. All five miners who are known to be alive have suffered injuries and shall be spending the next week or so in the hospital.

The government reports have found that the mine may have been unstable. U Good Gold Inc. denies all claims to the mine being unsafe. This is what a spokesperson had to say:

'U Good Gold Inc. denies all liablility. Our monitors show a minor earth tremor which wasn't in any way related to the stability of the mine but rather to the mining activity going on there. The miners' terms and conditions are stated in their contracts and they know what really caused the cave-in.'

Today, Sam Goliru, CEO of U Good Gold Inc. the corporation which owns the mine visited the miners to check their condition. This is what he had to say:

'The miners aren't badly hurt and this is our main concern. We wish them to get back on the job, ASAP.'

Thank you and good night"
