OOC Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=12947939&posted=1#post12947939)

The skies over Londim roared while the land was gripped by the power of the storm. Though this storm was big it was not the only one brewing.A bigger one much closer to home stirred within the Palace of The Four.

Recently a new Four had come to power after their parents had been laid to rest. Wappo was happy with his role and the relatively peaceful nation they were now in charge of but the other three were not so content. They had grown up being told stories of the times Londim had power over the world and were angered that such a powerful nation now sat back just watching the world go by. This would not last long.

"It is time", said Klallam to Sts'Ailes and Minqua," Wappo is weak and jeopardises our nations glorious return as a power so we will get rid of him tonight."

Klallam was a fierce woman who could get what she wanted either through using her cunning or her stunning body that she had been graced with.

The others nodded. They did not like Wappo and saw him as a threat due to his weakness to engage in combat. Minqua was a powerfully built man in his late 20's. He had been in Londims Army and was disgusted that all they did was keep the peace instead of start the wars. Sts'Ailes was a silent woman of 30 who had majored in History and Geography at Resa University.

The three approached the chamber doors of Wappo and entered. Wappo was reading a book, The Subtle Knife, and spoke while he still read.

"And what calls this meeting my fellow leaders?" asked Wappo looking at the book he held.

"You know why we are here Wappo and you know your time has come. Londim is moving onto a new era and you are not be apart of it." said Minqua.

"You would have me rejected from The Four?", asked Wappo still not showing any concern.

"No Wappo. We would rather have you die!" This was Sts'Ailes speaking and she looked on as Wappo rose from his chair to face them.

"So the Reaper watches over my shouler his scythe get closer. I knew you would all do this. I did not know when but I sensed it. You would have Londim go to war for no reason." he said calmly.

Klallam approached Wappo and hugged him as she whispered in his ear.

"No. We go to war to return Londim to her righful place." As she stepped back she looked at Wappo once more. A knife now stuck chest. Wappo stared back at Klallam.

"May our Ancestors put a curse on your souls!" These were the last words Wappo spoke before death consumed him.

The Three strode out of the room leaving Wappo on the floor. Phase one was done now Phase Two. An emergency confrence was called to be televised to every home in Londim.

"Citizens of Londim! Tonight we had to get rid of our own number. Wappo was a traitor to this nation and was found to be leading a revolutionary group against us! We The Three declare a State of Emergency to find those that were part of the revolutionaries. All suspected citizens will be rounded up and questioned. It is saddening when one of our own turns traitor but remember we had to do what was necessary to protect you and your families!"

All this was of course a lie but only the Three knew this. This was they had the citizens and the army on their side as suspected revolutionaries could be searched for.Total Power know belonged to the Three.

Prime Minister David Wallace sat in a dimly lit corner near his offices' fireplace. During the day he usually worked from his desk, but in the evening he liked to move over to the corner that was actually intended for eating. Just as he finished reading a report on the project to protect the southern shoreline against global sea level rise, his top assistant entered the room.

"Sir, we're receiving scattered reports out of Londim that one of their Four has been assassinated. They're calling it some sort of revolutionary action. However, we have not detected any other hint of rebellion within the last few months. It leads the A.C.I.D. to believe..."

David Wallace was a confusing man. He actually disliked open war. He enjoyed sending shadow forces to secretly harass people he disliked. He could do that with only the authorization of a legislative committee.

"If you're right, and I'm right, they'll likely start an outward expansion soon. I want you to make sure that the military is ready to go if they start executing 'dissidents' or anything of that nature."

And with that, the assistant briskly walked from the room.

The council room of the Grand Palace was chilly, and Prime Minister Ivansky Bochick shuddered silently as he and his fellow leaders of the Allied States of Faxanavia sat seated around the brushed steel table which served as their meeting place. He spoke up, saying, "Gentleman, it has coem to the attention of the defense department that the Fourdom of Londim has become a threedom. An assasination took place two nights previous. We have reason to believe malicious intent, and fear that should they begin expanding, Faxanavia will be one of the first to go." "But,surely." Said Arch Chancellor Belevor. "They must not have that much power." "80 Million troops, Arch Chancellor." Replied the Prime Minister in a serious tone. There was a murmuring around the table. "Now, then." Continued Bochick. "It has come to our attention that a coalition force has been deployed from quite a few other countries. I feel that we should deploy troops to help the effort." A murmur went up, but was silenced when the Prime Minister continued, " We shall deploy 2000 armed forces, along with battle personell to man machines. All in favor say aye." There was grumbling, and a brief argument, but finally it was voted upon: 4 in favor, 1 against. "right then," said Bochick. "I shall alert the generals immediately." And with that he stood and stroed from the room.

Niktah Al-Hollah, Sultan of Brukistan, was an old man already. It's been a long time since he fought against the cyonists. At dawn he was lying in his bed sick and tired, soon he would pass his power to his only son Jalla. A man stepped in to the room, it was Jalla.

"Dear Father" Jalla said and hugged his dad.

"What is it my son? Why did you wake me up so early?" Niktah said and coughed.

"Something has happened in Londim, an assasination, what should...."

"I know about this already, The prime minister of Avisron called me, I'm sending an expeditionary force to him and you shall lead that force. Is it clear?"

"Yes Father"

"Listen, You are under his command. You will do what he says you to do. No matter what he orders, you shall obey"

"Yes Father. How big is the force?"

"Royal tank division that consists 1000 leopard 2 tanks with their crew and 500 BMP 2s with crew and 3500 soldiers. And I'm sending 15 F-18 C/D Hornets and our whole navy, so it would be transports for our troops and 30 missile cruisers."

"I will set of immediately"

"Good, Now leave me, I'm tired"

"Goodbye Father, I hope we will meet soon"

"Me too"

Those were his last words before he fell asleep and started snoring. Jalla left room and started walking towards the harbor.

"Mr President, D-FID is here to see you."

"Tell him I'm busy, Karen," the President yawned.

"Yes sir... Sir, it appears to be very important. Mr Adler is becoming rather agitated."

"Oh, very well," sighed the President of Hamilay. "Send him up."

Two minutes later, Director Adler of the Federal Intelligence Directorate was sitting in an armchair in front of the President's desk.

"All right, Adler, what is it?"

"Bad things is enough to sum it up. I took the liberty of asking the Chiefs of Staff and the MoD to join us. You'll want to see this."

Right on cue, the oak-panelled door behind clicked open and four men entered, three in military uniform and one in a suit. They took up positions in the circle of chairs laid out in the Presidential office.

"Welcome, gentlemen," said Adler. "Take a look at these." He passed around a photocopied report to his five companions. "I'll sum it up for you. Londim- death of one of the Four- state of emergency. Now, FID's assessment is that the poor dead bastard seems to be a peaceable chap, whilst the rest are rather imperialist warhawks. As you know, Londim has a standing army of eighty million or so. Connect the dots..."

"As a matter of fact, I was aware of this. Sort of," replied Minister Whittaker, Defence. "Through, well, unofficial channels, the Avisron LibFed and two smaller nations, Brukistan and Faxanavia, have conveyed their intention to launch a preemptive strike to us. You weren't informed, Mr President, as it was only about twenty minutes ago. I came here to deliver the message in person when I met the Director and followed him. I, personally, am in favour of a deployment-"

"No surprises there," muttered Grand Admiral McIver.

"- but of course, there are eighty million Londim soldiers to deal with. However, it is my assessment, as well as Mr Adler's, that it is better to deal with them now than later when the Three rulers have consolidated their power. Mr President?"

"I agree. I'll call Fitzgerald and ask him to put a motion before Parliament, but consider your branches mobilized, gentlemen. One fleet battle group should do the job, and as many soldiers as we can muster..."

"About five million or so Army, sir. Well, at least we have an opportunity to battle-test the Peregrines." which are an excellent aircraft and have just been released for foreign sale and everyone should buy them.

OOC: One fleet battle group = 10x carrier battle group + 1 superdreadnought. Say maybe ~5 million infantry and two thousand planes- no problems?

IC: The Prime Minister stroed purposefully into the green room. His generals turned from their desks, and immediately stood at attention. He outlined the situation to them, then filled them in on what was to happen. "Your are to follow the orders of the Avisrom forces. They say jump, you say how high. Now then, I want you to send a wire out to Burkistan and Hamilay, let them know that we're in (OOC: Not really. You know from here)." "Then, send another wire to Avisron, and let them know what we can send. General, how many can we spare?" "General Agassius turned, saluted, and barked in a grough voice, "Two thousand armed troops, sir! as well as 20 F/A-401 Bird of Prey, 1 Gerald R. Ford Class Supercarrier ,20 F-22 Raptor ,2 C-17 Globemaster III, 20 M1A2 Abram Main Battle Tank ,1 M93A1 Fox Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Reconnaissance System ,30 M120 120mm Mortar ,3 3x3 SLAMRAAM Missile Battery, 2000 AK-47, and 1 Vigilant Surveillance Satelite, sir!" "Very good general, tell the forces to be prepped for deploy."
Lyras
09-08-2007, 14:11
Initial reports were sketchy. That the famed four were down by one was obvious. The ramifications were less so.

Warmarshall Leon Krell was old. His exact age was not known to the population of Lyras, but they all knew he was very old indeed. For all that, none considered him unfit to lead. His mind was still razor sharp, and he was always keen to see his warriors gain experience in honourable battle.

He pondered the situation at hand. Years of experience rattled around in his head, and the conclusions were not hard to draw.

He had met the four once, several years ago. One of his few trips out of Lyras, as it had happened. All had left him with strong impressions.

He couldn't help but admire their drive to succeed. And their inclination towards militarism. After all, similar sentiments had led to the formation of the Lyran Protectorate. He himself had helped to prod the then-four along their road to conquest (so he liked to think), and Lyras and Londim had been on good terms since.

He snorted. He'd have been more than friends with Klallam if he hadn't been old enough to be her great-grandfather.

Wappo though... he had been different. Not a pacifist, but not quite the same as the others.

The old Warmarshall would have wagered Castlegate that the "revolutionary group" was a fiction. Not that it mattered to him. The new rulers of Londim were warriors, and would bring honour to their peers.

He pressed a button on his desk, and his aide came in, clipboard at hand. The man moved to brace up, but Krell waved him off. Lyrans traditionally had little patience for idiosyncratic, traditionalist time-wasting.

"Colonel, I want you to draft up a diplomatic message, routed through General Wallins' office, to Londim. Ask them if, in this dark hour, Lyras can be of any assistance. Please include my congratulations for their prompt action, and make special mention of the availability of Lyran hardware and direct personnel involvement, should they need it."

Krell paused, and considered something else.

"Further, pass on my personal regards, and best wishes. I'm sure you can think of something appropriate."

"Will do, sir. Anything else?"

The Warmarshall nodded, his voice soft but the words carrying easily.

"Yes, one more thing. Pass my regards to Field Marshal Horn, and tell him to prepare Army Groups 14 through 88 for departure to Londim. Subject, of course, to there approval."

The colonel's eyes widened, but he recovered quickly.

"Sir."

He turned, and left the Warmarshall's office, doing the maths in his head. 20,000 to a division, three divisions to a corps, 60,000. Three corps to an army, putting it at 180,000. Three armies to an army group, taking it to
540,000. 74 Army Groups, making...

He lost count, and went for a calculator.

Several minutes later, one of his peers paused while passing the aide's office, hearing the man's whispered exclamation;

"Forty million. Son of a bitch."

***********

OOC: To be precise, 39,960,000. For further reference, it is worth mentioning that Lyras is a highly unique national entity. It has no civil sector at all. Every man, woman and child is a member of the military, and are raised from birth as warriors of the Protectorate. Non-military tasks are automated, disregarded or done as sparingly as possible. We are at this moment forming the Londimian Disarmament Coalition, or LDC. The Avisronian entity attached to this organization will be LOCOM, but messages addressed to either entity will eventually make their way to us.

The light of the morning sun glittered off the weapons of the 4000 massed infantry menmarchign back and forth across the vast dirt yard that was the training field for the Faxanavian armed infantry. Prime Minister Invansky Bochick stared out across the amassed forces. A clark slunk up behind him, and in a dull drawl, said, "Prime Minister, we have received notice from Avisron that we are to stand down until they send out the call to come." The Prime Minister nodded a curt little nod, and the clark faded back into the shadows. He turned and stared. At the sight of his men, he wondered if they might actually stand a chance...
He turned to another clark, and said, " Inform the consulates and embassies office that we are to establish a new embassy and consulate for Vanek Drury Brieres."
The clark scurried away, and the Prime Minister continued to sincerely hoped that they stood a snowball's chance...

Tiber Valias sat upright in the lavender seat that matched his two piece plain uniform. He flipped through pamphlets and folders on a long mahogany table in the center of a dimly lit plain room that had been stripped of non-essential decor. Surrounding the table was his private cadre of military advisers and standing closely beside him was the executor of his military might, the most prestigious Holden Kraft. Together they watched as events unfolded half way across the ocean on a holographic projector in the center of the table.

“So what are we looking at here Holden?” Valias demanded of the Executor of Armed Forces pointing to the projector that displayed images of Londim’s ‘Big Three’ and the rally subsequent to their usurpation of power. “And why does Lorkhan care?”

“Well, Nasier, the man that Londim’s Big Three killed was the clamp that held the other three in check from initiating an imperialist war.”

“What is your point?” The leader inquired. “We’ve half a world out there filled with power hungry lunatics and massive armies.”

“The waters just outside of Londim’s territory are used by many vessels belonging to Lorian companies." A dark long haired adviser on the other end of the table continued. "This is a major trade route that has cut in half the time it takes for our exports to sail across the ocean. Not to mention many travel ships sail these waters due to the scenery it offers.”

Valias listened and nodded briefly as he looked through the papers, noting the messages Lorkhan’s OCULMAGT intercepted regarding plans for pre-emptive strikes from other nations.

“As of right now we’ve no reason to get involved in this matter, but I want all military branches not already at battle readiness to be prepped for mobilization." Valias turned and looked across the room at masked individual partialy concealed by the darkness of the barely lit chamber. "I also want OCULMAGT agents in Londim to gather as much information as they can on these three leaders and the country. Leave no trail for Londim to follow if their mission is compromised." The man nodded and slipped away, fully embraced by the darkness, and he was gone without so much as a sound.

Valias shook his head and closed the pamplets handed to him, stacking them on the table as he did so.

"Let the rest of the international community worry about this problem." He told his men. "When it becomes our concern, we will unleash the fury of the gods on these bastards. Dismissed.”

The Three had been busy. After declaring Wappo a traitor they had immediately watched the reactions of the international community. It was no doubt that many would be suspicious and it was with interest as The Three listened to their defence minister, Jayak.

"It has come to our attention that a group of a number of nations have come together calling themselves LDC, Londimian Disarmament Coalition, with the intent to stop Londim should war break out."

Klallam watched with a glint of amusement in her eye. Interesting news to say the least.

"So we have a potential war on our hands. This can work in our favour quite well. We Three received a telegram from Lyras saying they would support us should any war come about against us.", she said.

"We must be careful with how we do this. We must be wise so as not to give reasons to the international community to attack us full force. Our main concern would be the sea as that is where they would attack from. Obviously that is a trade route for our own and others trade ships. We need to put out a blockade that will offer protection to our own and make sure that foreign trade ships to not get harmed by us on purpose unless absolute necessary.", replied Minqua.

"Agreed, said Sts'Ailes, "Also all Armed Forces are now on High Alert and we will have constant patrols in the sky. If anyone wants to launch an attack then they shall suffer heavily before they set foot upon our shores."

The orders were passed on. The Londimian Navy dispatched the 4th Fleet to the harbour which would create a blockade, All ships were given the order to only fire in retaliation.

The LAF increased patrols of the skies to watch out for enemy planes and to contact any unidentified planes and ordered to escort them to an air base should the unidentified seem friendly. Those that were not would be shot down.

The Army had increased training, all troops had been called back from leave to take up their duties. Whatever would happen Londim was already armed in the case of war.

"How about a national draft? How many soldiers can we arm?"

Space

The Avisronian society had always been... ahead of the curve, so to speak. While most nations spent enormous amounts of resources on developing more advanced versions of the same old ideas, the Avisronians actively developed new ideas, new ways to make them work, and most importantly, more ways of using ideas to blow things up.

This is how the development of the AVKSWP came about. The Avisronian Kinetic Space Weapon Platform was the combination of several old ideas that, apart, had been adapted to by any military with any Research and Development budget worth mentioning. However, together they created a system that would catch many, even developed militarys, off guard.

The centerpiece of this entire system was what appeared to be nothing more than a modern space barge. That's because, originally, the thing was infact an old space barge used to collect resources from destroyed satellites. It had been in orbit for months, simply sitting, seemingly abandoned, in a mass of space junk. Most sky watchers would never even notice it, nevertheless investigate.

To most watchers, this large piece of junk would spend its final years drifting, then burn up in earths atmosphere. That, or it would be impacted by a denser piece of space debris and disintegrate into hundreds of smaller pieces. That was not the mission of this ingenius little device, though. On one random night in the dead of space, it started to move. Not in the way it had always been, though. Some hidden thrusters at the rear of it fired and it was eventually circling above the south pole. Slowly gaining speed in high earth orbit, it was shielded by the plain of debris from satellites that had originally inhabited the low earth orbit and medium earth orbit plains.

Then, suddenly, the 'barge' took a sharp turn and headed north. Still in high earth orbit, only the most delicately positioned devices would detect it. Now traveling at an ungodly amount of speed, the device slowly starts to roll over and maneuver into the debris field.

Suddenly the face of the vehicle facing earth opens. One hundred-fifty tubes slide out. Then, rockets fire. The devices all plummet towards their targets in Londim. Kinetic energy weapons. Each, upon impact, would produce an explosion in the low kiloton range. Stopping any significant number of them would be nearly impossible, given the relatively small target they presented to ground based defenses and their incredibly high speed.

What was on the receiving end of this massive show of force? Londimian Air Force bases. Through extensive intelligence gathering efforts from satellites, among other sources, the Avisronian Central Intelligence Division, or ACID, hoped to have found a number of storage facilities for the Londimian military. The objective of this secretive operation was to render a large portion of the nations air force completely destroyed.

And the operation WAS secretive. Avisron would eventually make itself known, but it would be on their terms.

Soon after the weapons departed, the barge exploded violently, putting yet more debris into orbit.

Jalla was talking to the chief of navy.

"...well, few battleships would be good." Bearded navy commander said

"Ok. I'll tell the war factory sector to produce them. You can go."

"Have a nice day My Prince" Commander and saluted him

A man runned towards these two men with a telegram in his hands. He was sweaty and exhausted.

"Something has hit Londim" Man said

"What do you mean with "something" and "hit""

"Well, Something hit their main airbases, But we don't how much damge they took"

"What, How did that happen!?"

"They say that it was a meteor"

"Who says so?"

"Well, the news"

"And you don't have any idea what it could be?"

"Well, how could i know, that something just hit Londim. No one even doesn't know where did that something come from."

Prince took a map Londim from his pocket

"Show me were that "something" hit"

The man showed him the places of the collitions

"A meteor, huh?" Prince asked

"Yes, thats what they say in the news"

"And you believe it?"

"I don't know what to believe"

"Look at this map, You see collition spots? Do you think that a meteor could do this?"

"I don't know anything about meteors or space"

"If a meteor comes towards earth it would burn into smaller pieces in the atmosphere"

"Maybe"

"And the pieces would hit earth to a circular area"

"Oh, Now i get it, they would be in somekind of a circle and these spots aren't"

"Yes, that's what i meant. These spots are too randomly placed"

"Well maybe it was a meteor shower"

"That could be one possibility. But how can they hit just their airbases"

"By chance"

"That would be too good for us. I'll have to tell my advisors about this. You may go now"

"Ok, I'll be going"

The messenger run to the direction where came with the message

"A meteor, no one with some brains wouldn't believe that"

Field Marshal Horn read the reports with disgust. Meteor shower?! Like hell a meteor shower managed to hit with that much precision. No. That was a directed weapon of some sort, fired by someone, at Londim.

Revolutionaries? No. Horn shared Warmarshall Krell's scepticism about the true nature of the... alteration... of Londim's government.

He walked to the bridge of the Lyran transport, and nodded to its Captain.

"Captain, my respects to all ships, accelerate to best speed. I want us in port at Huchnom by nightfall. Signal that all their crews are to ensure that the taskgroup is heading for Abnaki by lunchtime tomorrow. We can sleep when we get there."

The transport's captain nodded.

"It shall be as you say, sir."

"Well, as far as we know, the bases are intact," said Prince Thomas Vanek.

"Yes, but we should press the advantage!" said Daniel Briere, colleague.

"Our spies haven't given us a report yet. When they do, I want you (a man stepped out of the shadows) to authorize 50 B-2s. Understand? Good. This is our moment to attack, obviously we want the element of surprise. There's no way that Londim will think that was accidental. But what will they do about it?"

From: PM Ivansky Bochick

Due to the necesity of arming troops, The Allied States has taken armorment into it's own hands. As of today, we have begun a weapons design and testing program, which should yield results within 8 months. Therefore, we can happilly recall our need for weapons to arm our troops. We will still happily accept weapons, as well as any interest in embassy establishment, but have no need for either.

Respectfully yours,

Now, as far as we know no damage was done, but I want to be prepared. this could be the big one. Chief Councilman Reyes, what is the status on our new weapons program?" A squat, balding man stood, and delivered from the paper in front of him, "Well, the small arms will be done within two months, but the planes and naval sources won't be ready for at least six. We should be thankful we had so much iron and steel on hand, otherwise it would take quite a bit longer. You are aware that the designs we're already in completion when we announced the program. We do hope that they work." "And The Big One Chief Councilman?" enquired Bochick. "Aah, yes, The Big One. It's still in design, but we hope that in a year or so..." "Good councilman. You are all excused to your posts."

Air Control, Resa Desert, Londim.

The skies had been somewhat quiet since the patrols had been ordered with a few passenger planes being forced to land after they could not communicate. These planes had been inspected and sent off. Harry Floyd was one of the SM's (Sky Monitors) on duty today.

"Should be another easy day today hey Fred? Easy day, easy pay.", he said to his companion, "What blithering idiot would try and hit us? To me any nation that goes for us is a dead nation."

Fred nodded and smiled agreeing with Harry. As they sat in silence staring blankly at the screens a small dot appeared moving towards them.

"Hey Harry what's this?" asked Fred.

"Probably another plane or something", mumbled Harry. As he stared at the screen another dot appeared, then another and another all moving in fast.

"Those aren't damn planes!", screamed Fred, "There's too many! Sound the fucking alarm!"

Harry jumped out of his chari and hit the alarm panel. The Alarms sounded around the airbase telling pilots to get to their planes immediatly. A few managed to take off before impact occured. Londim had been hit.

The Palace

The Three had gathered with their ministers all giving the same news. The room quietened as the Home Minsiter stood up.

"At precisely 0915 we were attacked. The attack was swift yet fatal. A number of our airbases have been completly detroyed, others have suffered severe damage and repair work is already being done. Luckily our Hibernating Air Bases (OOC: The Secret Airbases) were not hit probably meaning the enemy has no idea of them and their whereabouts."

"These cowards attacked us from the shadows while we waited for them to face us in the light.", said Klallam, "The weapon system they used was unlike any we have ever encountered and from what I can tell no other nation has ever felt its devastating power."

Minqua stood facing the Generals were facing him. A few empty seats showed that some of the Generals had perished with their planes.

" Your nation, our nation, now looks to the rest our armed forces to wipe out all remnants of the scum who attacked us. I want all major cities barricaded. Defences mounted, missiles prepped. Ladies and gentlemen we are at war.."

Sts'Ailes alos looked at the Generals and gave more orders.

"It is likely they will go for Huchnom. They have targeted our Air Force, our Navy is the most probably target. I want the 4th and 8th fleets (around 1200 ships altogether) deployed to the area. I want Sub Group 5 to scour the sea for enemy subs. Sea mines are also to be deployed at the boundaries of our territorial waters, we'll sink some of the bastards before they get near us. All ships are now ordered to shoot on sight. All civilian traffic is to be suspended. Understood?"

The Generals all nodded in unison.

Admiral Hind's heels clicked against the polished marble floor. His reflection was clearly visible in it, exagerating his height so he looked even more alarmingly tall. His reflection continued to riple across the floor as he moved swiftly down one of the many hallways inside the vast NIRA complex. The complex was large enough that getting anywhere was never very time efficient. It also happened to be just about the only inefficient thing that ever took place there. The Admiral turned left abruptly and turned the handle of a plain black door with a glove, and burst through the door.

"What is so goddam important Al- ah, Mr. President." He modified his statement hastily and looked, if not abashed, then at least slightly nullified. Striding around the table he took a seat in a chair which quickly molded itself to the unique curvature of his body. It was only then that he actually surveyed the rest of the people sitting around him, it was an impressive array, including the director of NIRA, and the Joint Chiefs.

"Now, as I was saying," The Director of the NIRA continued without skipping a beat, "Around an hour ago or so now, somebody just launched a massive orbital kinetic offensive against Londim. Now, as you are all aware, we have been watching Londim and her neighbors rather closely since the assassination of one of the four. One of our satellites picked up a strangely manuevering object, just before the strike was made. At the time we took it to be a poorly hidden inteligence or defense satellite. However, it became apparent that it was not. Now, we are not entirely certain to whom the kinetic strike craft belonged, however it seems likely that it is a part of the LDC, that narrows the list significantly to nations within that Coalition which have the capabilities to pull something like this off."

"Well, what effects are we envisioning this will have? It seems like our hopes of avoiding an all out war in that area are fruitless. It seems like our best option now would be to secure the sea lanes, possibly with the aid of the LDC. Apart from disruption of the trading lanes, I see no plausible threat from Londim." The President mused.

"Unless they decide for a strategic response against us, then their capabilities are quite limited, and even then."

"Very well, alert StratCom and get the SDI on high alert. Then we'll begin to deploy limited numbers of Autumn Petal class subs into the area to set up for the possible offensive, understood?" With this he looked at Admiral Hind

"Absolutely Mr. President." He growled.

Huchnom Harbour

The massive fleet of warships and destroyers patrolled the area around Huchnom like sharks looking for their prey. One such ship was the LNS Destruction which was now patrolling the boundaries waiting for action. The Captain was named Drai, a man who wanted action and who had served on the frontline for Londim for near on 20 years. Traffic outside the territory had died down as nations sensed that Londim was stirring and none wanted to get in the way.

"Sir we have a ship approaching quite fast. It seems it will enter our waters in around 2 minutes." drai looked ahead and saw a small ship approachiong.

"Tell them to divert their course and stay out of our waters."

The naval officer sent the message to the ship. All ships who had received this message before had diverted and stayed away but this one kept moving closer.

"No response Captain."

"Warning shots.", replied Drai in a matter of fact voice.

The ship fired a few shots into the air to warn the approaching ship which would not mmove away.

"Seems this person believes he can take on the entire Londim Navy. show them otherwise..", said Drai with a hint of annoyance in his voice. The LNS Destruction fired a two missiles at the approaching ship.

AVS Louis

AVS Louis, a small, Avisronian registered cruise ship, had sailed the trade route near Huchnom, Londim, for the last year. The vessel, which carried roughly 300 (usually rich) souls, plus 100 crewmembers, was a popular choice for many international businessmen who wanted to get away without traveling to the "usual" tourist locations.

However, those who had chosen this specific voyage had made a grave, though unseen, mistake. The vessel had accidentally strayed a little too close to Londimian territorial waters. A message came through. The Londimian Navy was warning them to turn around.

The Captain, an experienced sailor who had operated near some hotbeds of military action, calmly picked up his radio and prepared to make the Londimians aware that they had accidentally gotten too close. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw them.

Two incoming missiles.

The Captain hurriedly slapped the ships panic button, which immediately started an upload of the contents of the ships 'black box' to the Avisronian Transportation Safety Boards server. Just a moment later the ship was rocked by a massive explosion.

The ship itself was designed to withstand cruise missile strikes. However, an unexpected event took place when a missile managed to strike the ships fuel reservoir. The entire vessel was simply obliterated by the chain reaction. There would be no survivors of this fateful trip. The one hundred crew members were all Avisronians, as were one hundred-fifty two of the passengers. The remaining souls were foreign.

As the vessel was in the middle of a major shipping route, news of the disaster quickly become international news. The Avisronian Transportation Safety Board managed to recover a massive cache of sensor information, all the way up to the point that the Louis slipped below the waves.

Official Message from the Office of the Prime Minister

I am deeply distressed by the... acts, committed by the nation of Londim towards one of our cruise ships. Our nation is currently in possession of records which completely verify that the vessel was within international waters and received warning only a few seconds before the missiles impacted her.

Recent reports indicate that the "assassination" of one of the Four was perpetrated by the Londimian government. Because of this I personally, as well as most in my government, fear that the nations massive war machine is preparing an offensive. Coupled with the appalling events of today, I must officially request international assistance in the disarmament of the nation of Londim and her massive military.

The emergency phone flashed, and with a loud beep it alerted the Prime Minister to the imminent threat. Lifting the receiver, he barked, "What? What's happened?" A timid voice on the other end said," Um...well,sir... The Londim forces have attacked. They sunk an Avisronian tourist ship, the black box went down, but it could broadcast long enough to get the data out, and now it looks like we're gonna be at war." The Prime Minister sat and thought for a moment, then lifted the receiver and said, "Ok. I want you to send out messages. I'm sure the Avisronians will call on us soon, so we need to be ready. Arm our forces and hold them on standbye. I want every plane we've got on one of the supercarriers, fully manned and prepped for launch at a moments notice. Also, go down to tech and tell them to prep a mudhen to drop the NBDC's. We launch that now."
Several hours later:
Wing Commander Charles Yeegar was one of the most experienced pilots in the Faxanavian fleet. He was currently flying a prototype at around mach 2 directly over Londim air space. How, you ask? By utulizing a revolutionary technology, or, more precisely, a revolutionary old one. You see, the idea had been conceived long ago. Basically, all big communications systems used radio waves. And if you could pick those up, and reproduce them, you could pass as a plane which flew for the enemy. But, it did have drawbacks: you could only have one in the same airspace: anymore and they disrupted each others fields. And you couldn't have anything but small arms, because larger ones gave off a unique signal, a dead give-away. This particular plane, though, had no arms and was flying by itself. The F-11 Mudhen streaked across the sky. It soared for several minutes, until a red dot appeared on Charles' screen: a target. He soared in, and at teh press of a button, deployed a small canister. The contents were by no means deadly- they would maybe cause a slight concussion. the steel canister drifted gently into the rocky outcrops below, then burt open. Out of it flowed nothing. Nothing visible, anyway. In fact, several billion nanobots had spread from it. They had a basic directive: find a source of broadcast, latch onto it, and start broadcasting those signals to a designated point. Where had they landed? about an eight of a mile from the major Londim army broadcast station. Charles smiled. Just two more hits, then he could head home...

It took 10 minutes to open up the secure network but eventually they got to the 1st Hibernating Group. Orders were relayed as quickly a possible. There was a reason that these planes were kept out of the sky unless absolutely necessary. It was because these planes were the best Londim had and were fast and deadly. These kinds of planes had not been seen by many nations and a few nations had them in testing stages. These were the Londim FR24 Eagles and now the 1st group was out of Hibernation. Like an Eagle these planes would catch their prey...

Operation: Second Strike

Since the dawn of areal* warfare between nations, there had always been a certain... economics, to the whole system. A nation could choose to train its pilots intensely and give them spectacular aircraft, but only deploy a small number, or barely teach them to fly and deploy them in waves, hoping that they would overwhelm enemy defenses and at least score a few strikes.

That was the past, however. In the last decades modern advances in robotic technologies had enabled the development of Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles. The idea had been around for ages, but most nations never took the necessary steps of investment and developed an nearly fully autonomous device.

However, like with the spaceborne kinetic weapon deployed in the first strike, the Avisronian government had spent massive amounts of its Research and Development budget on futuristic weapons that actually worked.

And so was the AVG-03 Krisona UCAV. An unmanned aircraft that carried three high yield 500 pound 'smart bombs.' Because the Avisronian government had invested so heavily in the project and built thousands of them, the price had dwindled to one that was affordable. Meaning, the military could put them into highly dangerous situations and not fret when fairly high numbers were destroyed.

That was the plan for the current mission, too. As the sun began to set over Londim, dozens of the planes slowly began to trickle in at incredibly high altitudes. They were built from the ground up for stealth, and given that the Londimian RADAR network was already weakened by the Faxanavian attack, they would be that much more effective.

A total of five hundred of them rushed in and began to tactfully target Londimian air defenses. RADAR stations, missile batteries, and anything else that had been identified by spy satellites as useful in the defense of Londimian airspace, was to be assaulted.

This was to be the 'official' Avisronian preemptive strike. However, for those in the know, it was really the second...

With the scream of several hundred sonic booms, the Faxanavian fleet of F-11 Mudhens roared into the sky. Several hours earlier, Faxanavia had received the call for operation: second... I mean first strike. Now, the Gerald R. ford Class Super Carrier was left behind as a fleet of 500 manned planes lifted off. Their destination: Huchnom, the coast city. "Check in, sound off!" Shouted Chief Wing Commander Hal Grayson. A chorus of, "all clears" resounded through his head phones. "Right. Take 'em in deep, take 'em in fast. We've crippled their RADAR, so their shooting in the dark, but they're still shooting."
The squadrons broke down into their ten groups, and rippled across the sky. "And... deploy!" Screamed the Chief Wing Commander. With the resounding sound that only a 500 megaton bomb can make, the fleet began to drop it's missles. Suddenly, from below a blast of light, and several vast guns began firing. "They've got artillery! They've got AARRRGH!!!!!!" Screamed a voice from the end of the comunicator. A more matter-of-fact voice said, " They've opened fire on black squadron. They've already lost a 1-4 of the men." Grayson swore, then yelled back, "Okay, black squadron pull back. Red and Blue, start laying down bombs on those artillery cannons. Green, yellow, and purple, keep up the offensive, and aim for those ship yards. The rest of you, keep dropping but get ready. Their airforce will be here any minute!"
Hamilay

"Delta Six, this is Control, you are cleared for launch."

"Roger that, Control, Delta Six is preparing for takeoff."

The massive white aircraft taxied onto the runway, then leapt forward at an alarming speed. It lifted off the ground, and disappeared into the distance, its variable-geometry wings sweeping backwards. Bakersfield AFB was the largest Tu-160 base in Hamilay, and right now it was the busiest airfield of all. A hundred of the strategic bombers were now in the air or taking off, readying for a first-strike mission on Londim. Another hundred aircraft from other bases would join them en route.

Below the bomber squadrons, the Hamilayan 4th Fleet Battle Group was moving at a more stately speed. In the centre of the two hundred and fifty AMI/DMI built-warships and landing craft was a much larger black mass, the old QAE Systems Marine Prince of Wales-class superdreadnought. This one was the flagship of the Hamilayan Navy itself, the Adjudicator, pulled off duty in Generia due to the apparent defusing of the situation there.

The Adjudicator and her siblings were significantly overdue for retirement, but no suitable replacements for Hamilay's dreadnoughts had been found, and Naval High Command liked dreadnoughts, as most Naval High Commands do. So to keep morale up and continue intimidation purposes, the three remaining Prince of Wales vessels continued to sail with the Navy. Half a million troops and supplies sailed with the 4th, the first of what would become a significant Hamilayan commitment to Londim.

Several hours later, back in the air, Delta Six and the rest of its squadron mates had been joined by an escort of two hundred F-19s launched from the carriers below. The target; the Londim navy, which was reported to be in the area around Huchnom. Over a thousand ships would be easy to find, anyway. The twelve KH-55 Raduga cruise missiles in each heavy bomber were to target the heavy combat ships first, of course, but it didn't really matter. Blowing as many ships up as possible would do fine.

"Ma'am, multiple targets in range in five. Positive identification as Londim naval," said Delta Six's gunner, Flight Officer Faulkner, nervous but holding it together.

"All right, let's do this," muttered the Tu-160's pilot, Squadron Leader Elaine Parker. "Delta Squadron, you are cleared to open fire at will. I repeat, fire at will."

Two thousand, four hundred KH-55s began to drop from the sky.

The Faxanavian forces had taken some damage from the ground below, but we're by no means far from done. Chief Wing Commander Hal Grayson swung his plane in a downward arc, veering around two Londim ships and opening fire on them with his guns. Suddenly, a huge explosion rocked the bay. He looked up in fear, but apprehension turned to relief when a joyful voice yelled over his headset, "It's the Hamilay forces!" "Draw back! Move in and coordinate!" yelled the Chief Wing Commander. As one, the air force swung around and hurtled with a resounding boom back for the Hamilay forces. They came bak around, syncing in range for contact. "Coem in Hamilay. Come in Hamilay!" shouted the commander. "Listen, we need to keep up the boming. Wipe out their defenses, and get the airforce out of this area. Then we take the city as ours!"

"Sir, i have a new report" Princes advisor said

"What is it?"

"Our allies are attacking against Londim"

"And they left us out of the fun"

"I don't want to sacrifice my men"

"If we have luck, you don't have to. Tell the green squadron to lift off and bomb those enemy ships. And order our navy to move into firing range. What is the effective range?"

"Radar range is 200km, surface-to-air is 12km and surface-to-surface is 200km"

"Move into postions 150km from the coast and target the city with those missiles. And take supply ships too"

"Yes sir"

At the airfield

"This is Green 1 one ready for lift off"

"This is base, airfield is clear start your engines and head for Londim"

"Roger that"

Everyone in the area heard a huge roaring when 15 F-18 Hornets flew off

OOC: Remember if your sending in your navies you have to get past the sea mines as well as my naval forces.

IC:

So the battle had begun. Generals were co-ordinating the defensive attack against the invaders. Nations that were attacking were eing identified as the secure comunications intercepted messages.

The Londim Air Force had been weakened incredibly by these first attacks but since the attacks Londim had been on red alert ever since. The planes in Hibernation were now active. Thousands of both conventional and stealth fighters and bombers had taken to the skies inbound for the enemy who had deeply underestimated Londims defence capabilities. As these hundreds of fighters neared their targets they opened fire.

Of course the enemies air offensive had taken out some Anti Air defence systems but some of the objects the invaders had destroyed were nothing but decoys to throw such tactics out of balance. Even now these AA defences came into opeartion targeting the enemy planes which had invaded the airspace firing upon them without mercy.

The battle at sea was also about to begin. Ofcourse Sts'Ailes had been right that the enemy would go for Huchnom to take out naval capability. For such an advanced force, the invaders had made a novice mistake. As they were inbound to fight the Londim navy, communicatins had been made with the nearest fleet that was in open waters. Londim was about engage the age old Pincer Attack.

The skies had tunred into a battlezone so frightening and awe inspiring at the same time. Some of Londims planes fell ino the ground or sea as they were shot down, others targetted enemy ships. If the enemy wanted Huchnom then they would have to sacrifice thousands to get it.

"Permission granted"

"Roger that, heading in for strafing run."

"Green 1 this is Green 2 what are your orders?"

"You stay back and i'll show something they don't teach in the training

Green 1 got lower near the water surface and headed to the destroyer.

"Range to target is 150m, missiles away

Two missiles launched under the wings and headed towards the destroyers, they both hit and two massive fireballs flamed from the side of the destroyer.

"Now we must just hope that they made a hole. I'll give hint for you all, always attack below their deck so it's harder for them to shoot back. Now lets head to help our comrades"

Missiles Away

Brukistanian missile boats were in firing positions 150km from Londim coast

"Sir, We have new orders from Brukistan" Small man in an uniform said and gave a piece of paper to Admiral Fredriksson.

"Target Londims ship instead of the city of Huchnom. Messages to all ships: Target Londim ships, fire only from my command" Bearded Admiral said

A voice came out of the radio:

"Targets locked and ready to fire"

"Fire at will"

30 missiles launched at the same time and headed to Londim.

"This reminds me of New Years eve. Expect these rockets pop up little louder" Admiral said and laughed at his own joke"

The End of the Airforce

Battle raged over Londim navy and only three of the Brukistanian fighters were fighting. Rest of the fighter were shot down by enemy AA fire and fighters.

"Green 2 and 3 our next target is the nearest carrier. Follow my lead"

"Roger that"

"Roger"

I'll target their control room, 2 target their flightdeck and 3 target side of the ship. Ready? Fire at will."

Every fighter launched 2 rockets at the direction of the carrier.

"AA-missile incoming from the carrier"

"Start evasive actions immediately"

But they were too late. Green 3 bursted into flames and crashed to sea

"Green 3 is down I repeat Green 3 is down"

"I saw that Green 2"

"We should head back to Brukistan to rearm"

"There is no going back anymore, lets just try to shoot down enemy fighter with our machineguns. Do you see anythig in your radar beacause mine is broken"

"No there is nothing inside the radar range"

Suddenly a cannon opened fire behind them.

"What the fuck was that, you said there is nothing in the radar"

"Well there isn't"

Another burst from the cannon hit Green 1 and the fighter started falling towards the sea.

"Go get him boy"

Those were his last words before the radio went silent. And then the stealth fighter passed Green 2.

"You're dead now"

Green 2 got behind the enemy and fired his cannons. The stealth fighter started burning and piece of the plane hit Green 2 left wing and the fighter started falling and was at collition course with one of Londims carriers flight deck

Drai was watching the battle as he barked orders.

"Submarines to attack any ships that get through the minefield! Shoot to sink! If sinking them is not an option take out their engines so they become sitting ducks."

The ship rocked as a mine in the distance went off after something had activated it. Communications from one of the Fighter Captains came in:

"All Brukistan planes neutralised. We need AA fire concentrated on the others. There are a large number of hostiles."

Drai smiled even though he was in the midst of a battle. At least Brukistan had witnessed Londims power. If there weren't so many nations involved then the Londim War Machine would have invaded and tried to take control of that small nation.

" I want all enemy ships targeted. Our boys in the sky can hold off the enemy planes and so we must hold off the naval attack on Huchnom. They dare attack one of our ancient cities..."

Avisronian 7th Fleet

The naval battle was beginning. The Avisronian navy had prepared for this moment since its very modernization years earlier. This would be its first all out combat role.

Following orders, the 7th Fleet, consisting of some 400 AV83 Class Advanced Destroyers, had actually slowed down to watch Avisron's allies reach the region first. Because of this, the 7th had avoided the opening volleys.

The AV83 Class Destroyer was the pride of the Avisronian Navy. Where most navies never ever looked at building stealthy warships, the Avisronian Navy had invested in the new design. The ship, when used in small groups, was extremely hard to find.

As the 7th Fleet neared Londim, the massive bulk of the fleet came to a stop and took up defensive position far outside the warzone. Then, a group of 25 of the vessels detached and began to sail east of Huchnom. Completely ignoring the massive battle that was taking place, the 25 ship picket looked to stealthily move to a different flank and take the Londimians by surprise.

However, upon reaching the edge of Londimian territorial waters, the minefield was discovered. The ships all stopped moving, took up a defensive position, and began lobbing their massive 8 inch railguns. These guns, which rely completely on kinetic energy, each deliver more energy than a bunker busting bomb.

Their first target? Enemy destroyers and frigates. Their railguns would be no match for smaller ships, and thinning out the enemy navy was imperative.

-Airspace Near Londim-

As Avisron's allies poured assets into the area, Londim took the bait. By reacting in the way Londim did, ie, launching planes from their secret bases, they had provided Avisron with the locations of any base a plane launched from. Avisron's military had suspected this, and put one of their intelligence aircraft in the area. As the battle raged, the plane gathered intelligence and transmitted it back to the Avisronian homeland.

"OK men," said General Curtis Granderson. "13th Squadron! You know your target-the home of the Big Three. Now move!" The 13th Squadron was made up of 16 planes-10 F/A-22 Raptors, 6 B-2 Spirits. Granderson watched them off. The LDC isn't going to like this, he thought. At the same time, the VDB Fleet was getting ready to move under Admiral Eric Belanger. It consisted of 2 aircraft-carriers, 10 destroyers, 5 cruisers (whatever they are), 50 frigates (small ones), 20 submarines, and the three flagships of the Fleet, the TPS Vanek, the TPS Briere, and the TPS Drury.

Boom rocked the sky as the Faxanavian air force returned. It had been forced into retreat upon the arrival of the suprise Londim forces, but now they were back with reinforcements. The force swooped out over the bay, with all but fifty breaking off and charging into the fracas, deploying their payloads over the already dessimated city. However, the Purple Squadron had a different objective. Squad Leader Grace Jackson, renowned as being the first woman in Faxanavian military history to act as the leader of the prestigious purple squad, secodn only to red squad in it's power. Purple squad we're fast, and deadly. And Grace was too. Leading here team in over the sea waters, she spotted the Avisronian ships, and swung her forces around, hurtling towards them. She radioed out, "Avisron, clear the waters. I repeat, Avisron, clear the waters." The ships halted their rail gunning, and, with the teminal speed of warships, backed up. (Avisron, I apologize for god moding your ships, but they really don't want to be there for the offensive.) They then swooped in, and out of the deploy bay of each plane poured small, ticking, cluster bombs. The problem with minefields is that, with the right precsion placement, they are jsut one big boom waiting to happen. The Londim navy forces sat, unsure of what to do. If they shot, they could hit a mine, but if not...? There dillemna was, however, easily solved. That is, when the clusterbombs exploded. The thing about mines is that kinetic energy sets them off. And start the chain of explosion, and soon they all go up in smoke. Soon, the mine field was ablaze, but the fire soon adhered to it's weakness to water, and faded into smoke. By then, the purple squad was long gone.
(OOC: I didn't destroy all the mines. There are still some left. But I did cut a sizeable swath for Avisron to pass through, as well as put quite alot of smoke in the air (keep that in mind!))

As of a few minutes ago, hostilities were opened between yourselves and the general nations of the LDC. We must first express our condolences, as a nation that does not believe that first strikes are ever a viable option, and believe that what has transpired is most unfortunate. However, it has become apparent that, due to your new regime change, it can no longer be viewed as feasible for your nation to control the trade centric waters off your coast. Therefore, we must set ourselves against you and your imperialist tendencies in order to maintain the freedom of the seas, and the prosperity of the people of the world.

-----

[To: The Londim Disarmament Coalition]
[From: The Corporate Empire of Alutia]
[Subject: Military Aid]

The Corporate Empire of Alutia has decided that, in this sudden war, we cannot stand by our usual strategy of non participation, as the trade routes which Londim seeks to control are far too valuable to entrust their protection to others. Because of this we have decided that it would be in our, and your, best interest to lend aid in the fight against Londim. As you are most likely reading this message, Alutian forces in the area will begin to engage the Londim Navy.

-----

The Alutian navy was rather unusual. Most modern navies of the world liked carriers and large capital ships... alot. However, Alutian military doctrine prefered to operate out of sight whenever possible, such that trillions of credits had been poured into attempting to make everything from fighters to aircraft carriers stealthier. For this reason it was no wonder why submarines were fielded in such large numbers by the Alutian navy. However, the Alutian submarines were a far sight from traditional ones, tripple hulled and honeycombed with glass titanium, they were built to dive to the ocean floor, and lined with Aero-gel, built with natural circulation reactors and using only pump jet propulsion, they were on their way to making passive sonar obsolete.

Since the opening shots had been fired from orbit, the Alutian navy had begun trickling subs into the waters around Londim. Traveling far deeper then would be expected and far quieter then would be discernable they had slowly amassed beneath the waves. Now however, with the sending of the messages to both Londim and the LDC, they acted.

-----

Captain Lewis Clark swore as he saw the messages that had been sent to the LDC and Londim. However, he had no time to read them. He pulled a cord out of the wall, and jacked into the ships system.

This is the Captain, as of this moment our nation is at a state of war. Our current goal is to pave the LDCs way for an invasion by nuetralizing the Londim navy.

-----

All over under the waves similar announcements were being made. And then all at once, torpedoes began to pour out of the depths. The standard Alutian heavyweight torpedo was a might overpowered. The things had been designed to split the keels of Super Dreadnaughts, therefore they were built to supercavitate, and given a warhead that would blow smaller warships straight out of the water. Needless to say, very little stayed afloat after being hit by these things. Hundreds of these torpedoes sped through the water, accelerating towards the surface as they acquired the Londim warships, along with any other boats that happened to be stupid enough to be close to their battle groups.

[OOC: I'd like to suggest we give Londim a chance to respond before we do any more attacks after this. This should have been in the last post I made, but I didn't have the time and wanted to get SOMETHING posted.]

-IC-

As the battle continued to rage, the Avisronian Central Intelligence Division continued to decipher the continuous stream of information that trickled into its primary Combat Intelligence Center back on the Avisronian homeland. Through the careful placement of several discreet AWACS units around Londim airspace, a few intelligence gathering satellites, and the plethora of information the UCAV flight had transmitted back, the A.C.I.D. had managed to back-track several Londimian aircraft back to their hidden home bases. This type of action would become paramount over the upcoming weeks.

The importance placed around the destruction of these bases was huge. Crippling the Londimian Air Force would allow a complete onslaught against the Londimian homeland and, hopefully, make the inevitable invasion much less costly in terms of life and resources.

Based upon the intelligence, a plan was put together. The submarine contingent of the Avisronian 7th Fleet were finally put to use. In the middle of the battle, missiles began to rise from the sea. Hundreds of them. Some 700 stealth-based cruise missiles were fired into the Londimian homeland in hopes of disabling even more air force bases. The few bases that hadn't been completely destroyed in the initial orbital onslaught and were under repair were targeted, as were the multiple suspected 'hibernation bases' that had been uncovered.

As the war began to heat up, especially in the LFA's favor, support of it rises in Avisron. Outrage over the sinking of AVS Louis leads to increased military recruitment and a boycott of anything made in Londim.

Jalla was having a meeting with his MWAVD (Main weapons and vehicles designer) Heinrich Lundqvist

"I guess you heard about our airforce My Prince"

"Yes, We lost some good men. Do we have any pilots and fighters anymore?"

"Last week we finished contruction of our F-18 Shark navy bombers"

"F-18 Shark navy bombers? What are those i have never heard of them?"

"They are my newest creations"

Heinrich took two folders from his suitcase and gave them to Jalla.

"The another one is its blueprints and the other shows you how it works"

First folder:

Top secret: F-18 Shark Blueprints (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa215/Niko2-0/shipbuster.jpg)

"Let me tell you what it is. It's a normal f-18 with modified engine and chassis,
it can go up to speed Mach 2."

"Good, what about this bomb?"

"It goes speed of mach 3 and the engines on the side wings give it much more hitting power when it starts spinning"

"And what about the other folder"

Top secret: How To Use Shipbuster (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa215/Niko2-0/workingmethods.jpg)

1.The fighter flies above clouds.
2.The fighter starts diving towards hostile ship.
3.The fighter launches missile.
4.The fighter flies above the clouds again.
5.The missile starts spinning in speed of mach 3 and collects huge amount of energy.
6.The missile strikes to ships deck and goes through.
7.The missile drills through the ship and makes hole from the deck of the ship to bottom of the ship.
8.The missile blows up under the ship and leaves no evidence about that what hit the ship.

"Good plan but i have two questions, Does it work and why does the missile destroy itself, i mean we could use it again if it doesn't explode"

"Of course it works, All my weapons have worked"

"Thats true"

"And the reason why it explodes is that the enemy can't steal our technology"

"Ok. How many of these you built?"

"50 fighters and everyone of them has one missile."

"50 fighters? Where did you get money to it, i never ordered anything like that"

"Well, I had to stole them from the government and bribe the factory leaders"

"My dear friend. It's a good thing you did that. You can go now, I'll pay you after the war is over"

"It was nice to see you"

Heinrich walked out of the room and Jalla grabbed the phone.

"Brukistans airbase."

"This is Jalla, fuel those planes and send them against Londims navy."

"What planes? We lost all in our last attack"

"Ask Heinrich Lundqvist, he knows where they are"

"Yes sir."

The water rose in arcs as the tiny boats skipped across the waves. These were Faxanavian SeaChickens, the current ship of choice for the Faxanavian fleet. They were not designed to be menacing, but the didn't have to be. Each one was fully armed, and capable of deploying 4 different missles from it's launch ports, as well as readily armed with railguns. These were small, mass produced destruction.
They were slow in getting there, because, frankly, a ship can't achieve mach 2 like a a war plane can. However, now they were here, and ready for action. The small fleet came hurtling forward towards where they had finally reached their destination. Following the sent commands, they veered through the cleared mine paths. rippling across the what once were placid waters, they went in for the attack.

We respect the power you have thrown against us but do really think you will be able to carry out a successful invasion? Warzone

The Coalition was mounting a huge offensive. The navy was sustaining heavy losses as were the air forces. Around 100 ships had been rendered useless and some of these were sinking while others sat in the water. The crews were abandoning ship.

The Sub groups had fired the Drills towards as many enemy ships as possible. The Drill missile was a torpedo that had what was only described a large drill hear at the front. The way these worked was as the topedo travelled through the water the propulsion what start the spinning motion of the drill. These would bore a hole or wreak a lot of damage to a ship before exploding after a set time.

As Drai ordered the rest of the ships to fire towards the oncoming enemy he received some news:

"Captain Drai. Reinforcements inbound to Londim. 7th and 3rd fleets incoming on enemy vessels."

The news brought a huge smile to Drai's face. After the minefiled had all but been destroyed he had watched as enemy ships poured towards them. Luckily the playing field was about to become level again.

On land

More missiles rained down from the sky like deadly raindrops. Numbers of civilian casualties was rising and the survivors were thirsty for blood. Huchnom had received considerable damage. Streets were layered with rubble.

The airfields that were being rebuilt were hit again rendering all repairs useless. Only a few of these were still semi operational, others were complete ruins with bodies strwen everywhere. Even one of the Hibernation zones was hit. The enemy were clever yet foolish. They were sending their soldiers to the slaughter.

Yellow Squadron rippled across the sky in their jets. They were on a unique mission of their own. They soared over the Huchnom battle zone, and out into enemy territory. They flew over the smaller villages closer to Huchnom: They had little secuirty, as the vast amount of defense was trying to quell the coalitions might. They flew over these villages, and the deployment bays opened. However, instead of dropping bombs, they dropped tiny leaflets. These pamphlets, folded over and landing neatly everywhere. It was a classic maneuver. The pamphlets outlined the brave power of the coalition, the oppression of the people, and even released what little data the coalition had picked up from their spies on the murder of Wappo. It urged the people to rise up against their oppressors, and outlined basic safety steps to prepare for the coming forces. Propaganda was always useful.

Gaimly, them skipped between the larger, slower ships, emptying rail guns into their sterns and blasting missles into their hulls. They would by no means win the fight, but they'd do some damage.

The Faxnavian Navy were brave and fearless but also reckless. They had breached the Londim Naval line and were firing shots left, right and centre. However the Londim navy outnumbered them and whenever the Faxnavians fired and damaged another ship the Londim ships increased their fire towards the enemy. The harbour was turning fast into a watery graveyard as people on both sides were killed.

Inland

As the pamphlets landed on the ground many frightened citizens picked them up. All were going on about how the Coalition was here to save the people.

"Save us from what?! We were a happy people who had the freedoms many nations oppress. And this alleged murder of Wappo? The Three themselves gave us the evidence of his plottings." cried one villager.

These were the people who had lost friends and family in the missile strikes. Almost all knew someone in the armed forces and all loved their nation.

"These bastards are destroying the city of Huchnom. Do they not know history?! That city is sacred to us for it is from there where one of the four tribes who built our nation come from. If an enemy soldier puts one foot on this land I will kill them myself!" shouted another. These pamphlets had only added fuel to the evergrowing fire.

A loss of over one hundred had dealt massive damage to their naval forces. They pulled out behind the mine field, and moved swiftly out of Londim waters. A new tactic was needed.
The Faxanavian air force, on the other hand, was still flying fine. They continued the bombing on Huchnom but had slacked it off as almost all that was left were civilian homes and storage. They we're preparing to return for supplies, when an SOS was received. They were needed in the bay. Two squads broke off, heading in the direction, and what they saw was frightening. A great many Londim ships lay, smoking, but many, many more faxanavian ships were damaged.
From there, the target was clear. Purple and Blue Squadrons soared in over the remaining ships, explosives dropping from their drop bays. Each of these bombs were several megatons of explosives, and quite capable of dealing damage to the ships. They came around three times, swerving and dodgeing rail gun fire. Then, they toar off towards the main Faxanavian carriers to refuel. Their naval bound brothers would be avenged.

Task Group: Penguin, the twenty-five vessel Avisronian naval group, began to slowly press through the opening in the minefield provided by their allies. From here they could target even more Londimian vessels. Seemingly unnoticed, they began to split apart and move to different sectors. The AV83 Class Destroyer was powerful enough to operate as a stand alone vessel, but when working in packs it was massively efficient at raining death down. Their goal? To press towards Huchnom.

As the Londimian reinforcements began to trickle into the region, the Avisronian 7th Fleet moved to keep them at bay. The remaining 375 AV83's, which had yet to do battle, opened up with their combined 3000 railguns. The massive precision and rate of fire from these guns would create a wall of fire that was virtually impenetrable against the enemy fleet.

Meanwhile, the Avisronian Air Force launches another massive flight of 1200 AVG-03 Krisona UCAV's. The flight, like the last one, is intended to help thin out the Londimian air defenses. Even if a vast number of their targets turned out to be decoys, they would eventually begin to hit real military hardware.

Back on The Gerald R. Ford Supercarrier, the Faxanavian Airforce contingency was refueling and recharging. The Naval forces would be out of commision for a while, but they had done damage. What was interesting was up on the top decks, where the planes got reloaded. The tech team on the ship had decided to go for a new angle. As such, each plane was being loaded with a new missle: The Honeybee 4. Honeybees worked much like splitting mines. they exploded, and deployed many smaller grenades, each packed to the brim with explosive chemicals. It would do double the damage to the fleet, was the idea of the Faxanavian tech team, because the spreading fire could do even more harm.

Below the attacking Tu-160s, ships began to appear on the horizon. A lot of ships. To be precise, two hundred and fifty-four surface combatants and submarines, making up roughly ten carrier battle groups of the Federal Republic of Hamilay Navy, plus the massive RHS Adjudicator, visible from miles away as over twice the length of even the supercarriers sailing with the fleet. After an unfortunate Dolphin-class SSN in the forward pickets hit a mine and went straight to the bottom, above the subs sailed twenty Pioneer-class minesweepers, slowly and methodically clearing any naval mines in their path, with several hundred aircraft flying cover. There wasn't much need any more, as the other LDC members' navies had already sailed through and cleared most of it, but it didn't hurt to be careful.

On the bridge of the Adjudicator, Fleet Admiral Matthew Harper surveyed a display showing a huge mass of red contacts, with sadly few smaller green dots interspersed between them.

"Captain?"

"That's the main Londim navy, sir. The Faxanavians are attacking with light torpedo and missile boats of some sort. We appear to be somewhat outnumbered, sir; the enemy looks to have approximately twice our number."

Harper dismissed this ominous pronouncement with a wave of his hand. "Agreed, but our strategic bombers plus the Faxanavian and Brukistani forces should be able to level the odds at least. How are the bombers faring, anyway?"

"Still no report yet on friendly casualties. About a hundred enemy ships appear to be destroyed, but we can't be sure whether they are our kills or those of allied naval combatants."

"Captain!" shouted a lieutenant sitting at a station with yet another screen showing a smaller tactical display. "Expect to be in range in T minus ten."

"Admiral?"

"Operation Global Security begins as of now. Captain, you may order Adjudicator and all ships to fire at will. Let's make our presence felt."

"With pleasure, sir. This is Adjudicator to all vessels; you may fire at will. Repeat, you may fire at will. Guns, give us a full salvo from the foward cannons. Prepare all missiles for launch."

The Hamilayan fleet battle group opened fire with a thunderous crash. Hundreds of trails of smoke lanced into and through the air from the Mansel Reese and Pegasus-class guided missile warships, and to supplement the Tu-160s, A-7 Wraith attack planes began rising off the decks of the carriers.

Drai saw the Hamilay Navy entering the fray. And watched as missiles from both ships and planes flew towards the Londim ships. As the battle had raged Drai had contacted Naval Support demanding reinforcements. It was time. Londim had invested heavily in ocean warfare.

On the shore dormant defences were now coming to life with the specialist land to sea missiles, Tsunamis, had been loaded into these. The Tsunamis were specialist missiles that targetted enemy ships and just before impact would release a small Electro Magnetic Pulse, big enough to affect the targetted ship and then explode on impact, knocking out electrical equipment to allow the Londim ships to fire upon the sitting ducks. As Drai watched the enemy missiles come down he saw the Tsunamis coming from Londim shore. The eneemy missiles rendered more ships useless and some were starting to sink. The subs had been ordered to target the Avisrion Destroyers which were causing havoc upon the Londim navy. Both conventional topedoes and Drillers were being fired upon thses ships.

"Captain Drai!", the voice made Drai start, "This is Captain Hukio of the 3rd fleet. The 3rd Fleet will arrive in 10 minutes to the battlezone. End."

The news made Drai laugh. The Coalition was about to experience Hell.

Inland

The jets had been prepped and all had bombs in their loading bays as well as full ammunition. More of the Hibernators were waking up and these reinforcements screamed towards the battlezone to take out the air threat and claim air superiority.
Lyras

Field Marshal Horn had, at his disposal, 74 Army Groups. Lyras largest overseas deployment to date. They had, however, been in Londim barely 3 months before war broke out.

Horn had, in consultation with Londim's military high command, deduced that Huchnom would be the first target. A deduction that the situation would reveal to be more than correct.

Horn had left the veteran 19th Army Group in the area of Huchnom. Not just for their LY4 tanks and extremely experienced anti-aircraft units, but for two corps that the Field Marshal expected would be very useful in the port city's defence.

66th and 67th Artillery Corps, which both fielded LY300 Manticore Multiple Rocket Systems. At 12 Manticores to a battery, 36 to a regiment, and 108 to a brigade, the numbers of Manticores quickly became rather intimidating. Considering each corps had 9 brigades, that was a total of 1944 individual LY300 Manticores.

The interesting part, as far as an observer would be concerned, was that each Manticore carried two weapons pods, each one loadable with either thirty 220mm rockets, or seven cruise missiles.

Every Manticore of 66th and 67th Artillery Corps were loaded with cruise missiles. To be specific, LY4045 anti-ship cruise missiles, roughly analogous to a significantly upgraded BGM-109 Tomahawk. The two formations had, ready to fire, something in the order of 27,000 anti-ship missiles, with a range of 3000km.

They were still hidden, and protected by the Army Group's extensive network of over five hundred LY220 "Shepherd" anti-aircraft systems.

But when the Army Group commander gave the word, it would take less than a minute to fire every one of those 27,000-odd missiles. It would take five minutes to reload, and twenty-five seconds after that to complete the firing sequence again.

With two reloads on hand for each launcher, the number of anti-ship cruise missiles ready for firing was, perhaps, the largest ever seen.

Not that anyone outside of 19th Army Group knew that, of course.

OOC: Just letting you all know what's there... thought it wouldn't be entirely fair to spring these on you without giving you a warning. But they are likely to be very painful, when they do fire...

OOC: What is this, some sort of omhage to BL (Just kidding!)
IC: The Faxanavian air force was prepping their relaunch when a radio from the Chief Wing Commander silenced 1100 engines (dual engine planes). It seemed that there were some...problems. Both Lyras and Londim seemed to have armed some ground to sea missles. They had a new bombing objective. So, when the Faxanavian planes took off, they were differently armed. It wasn't only Londim who had EMP Technology.
The forces soarded in formation, then broke down into pre determined squads: 250 soared along the coastline and inland area, aiming for the Tsunami and other missle carriers in an attempt to damage at least some of them. A second two hundred soared out over the bay, dropping Honeybee 4's from their cargo holds onto the Londim naval forces below. A final fifty soared out towards the Lyras area. But they knew that it was to no avail. They barely got close enough to deploy their cargo when anti air craft fire opened up on them. They dropped what they needed to drop, then moved back to reload and help their brothers.
The tiny, rotund, red device that dropped from one of the planes landed, and with a tiny explosion, blew open. Nothing was inside. Nothing visible, anyway. The tiny microbes which had previously infected Londim communications we're now streaming into the compound made of anti-aircraft missles. They wouldn't do any harm- all they'd do was re route Lyras signals to the LDC. Then maybe they would know what was going on.

-Avisronian 7th Fleet-

After realizing the current course of combat was going to accomplish little more than costing a huge loss of life without a deciding victory either way, the Avisronian fleet begins to trickle back westward, in the direction they came from.

However, before they move out, the ships of the fleet carry out one last, devastating action. Every ship, being loaded with 150 cruise missiles, launches a massive attack against the Londimian fleets. In total, 60,000 cruise missiles are fired into the Londimian navy.

"This is Gold 1 to base. We have visual sight on hostile ships, requesting orders."

"Close in and target their carriers, they are the easiest to destroy."

"Roger that. Heading for attack. Squadron fly over the clouds and do not attack without my permission."

All fighters disapperead above clouds.

"Enemy carrier in sight, Gold 50 head in for attack"

One of the fighters pitched down towards the carrier coming straight from above. It fired its missile, pitched up and disapperead in the clouds.

"Gold 50. Head back to Brukistan."

"Roger that."

"Now it's time for revenge."

Lieutenant-General Archer was the commander of 66th Artillery Corps, and artillery co-ordinator for 19th Army Group. He was a veteran of several conflicts, and command of an artillery corps was the fulfillment of one of his life's ambitions. He freely admitted that he found the parallels between his task and his name more than a little amusing.

Targetting telemetry was being recieved from the Cromwell system, via link-up from Londim's Tsunami batteries. The Avrisonian fleet was changing its heading, withdrawing to the west. No matter. The LY4045 cruise missiles on the Manticores had a range of 3000km. They wouldn't cover the distance fast enough.

Archer had a feeling that the Avrisonians knew it as well.

"Message to all 66 and 67 Corps batteries. Fire when ready."

The message was phrased politely. Almost overly so. Almost implying that the units would need to prepare to fire.

But they had prepared. Had been ready to fire for a long time. The message was more akin to pulling a trigger.

Across the lines, tongues of fire streaked out from behind launchers as the weapons systems opened up.

27,216 missiles left the ground in the space of 30 seconds. Exactly six minutes after Lieutenant-General Archer had spoken, a second ripple was released.

54,432 LY4045 anti-ship cruise missiles were in the air.

The weapons were designed to be low-observability. IR-suppression and a very low radar cross-section were also features. Also, the weapons did not follow a ballistic trajectory, but instead hugged first the ground, then the sea, navy-grey paint scheme matching the water's surface with an eerie effectiveness.

The fleet would not have much warning. Exactly how much was uncertain, but it would certainly be less than they had had when the emplaced Londimian shore batteries had fired.

More importantly to the Lyran units, however, the combination of low-observability factors meant that chances of detecting the launch point were extremely low.

Not leaving things to chance, however, was one of the things that had made Lyras a power.

Within another seven minutes of the second ripple being fired, the two artillery corps were moving. Any offensive counter-battery would find nothing. Aircraft looking for them where they'd just been would find, to their discomfort, that much of the air defence systems were still in place...

Avisronian 7th Fleet

The fleet, now lightened from its complete excretion of its missiles, continues to withdraw as quickly as possible. Then, suddenly, a disruption to the thus far flawless plan. A ship towards the rear edge of the formation suddenly bursts into flames. The moment the enemy missiles impact it, however, the Avisronian Fleets anti-missile defenses go to high alert. A few more ships near the previous burst into flames.

There's one critical thing to understand about the Avisronian navy, though. Because of the efficiency of Avisronian naval repair facilities, every effort was made to design ships that would one, stay afloat, and two, keep moving. This design concept was heavily incorporated into the AV83 Class. This resulted in a situation where ships would be essentially mission killed: Burning, devoid of all life. But still afloat. And still moving on its pre-mapped course. Of course, the fires would eventually melt the ships, without proper fire fighting, but at least a few would be salvageable.

As the missiles continue to streak in, Avisronian RAM comes online and begins to put counter missiles into play. Given the probability that any naval battle will involve "missile spamming," the AV83 is given hundreds of rolling airframe missiles in order to defend itself. As the tide of missiles continues, dozens of ships record more strikes. Then, the fight starts to trickle down, as quickly as it started. Only a handful of ships are unscathed, but the fleet still exists. It is no longer a capable offensive fighting unit, but it IS still operational, and continues to stagger crippled and on fire out of the region.

"Sir! Avisronian warships falling back, and we have multiple hostiles, both missiles and reinforcements inbound. What the-" The first of fifty-four thousand Lyran missiles began appearing rapidly on the radar screens- "Jesus Christ! There's a hell of a lot of missiles bearing down on Avisron's destroyers. Like, a lot."

"Calm down, officer. Okay, it looks like we're a bit in over our head here, with the Avisronians retreating. No matter, we'll fall back and regroup the same as them. Begin firing countermissile weapons. Target those incoming on us first, but help the Avisronians out as you see fit. All ships, fall back to the retreat point."

The Hamilayan fleet fired a last few parting salvos of missiles and shells from the heavier guns, then turned to retreat. The DMG guided-missile cruisers were really more like fast missile boats, which didn't really mesh with the Hamilayan naval doctrine of general-purpose medium surface combatants plus large capital ships. The novel solution was to fill the versatile missile cruisers full of anti-missile weapons, ideally to counter the threat of the infamous Khan, every sailor's fear. Since Londim didn't appear to have Khans, there wasn't much point in saving the weapons, and eighty of these missile-defence ships in the fleet opened fire with RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles and Russian S-300s, against the Londim Tsunami missiles and secondly against the Lyran cruise missiles as they passed by, in the process of falling back hurriedly.

The battered Tu-160s were already retreating back to Hamilay to refuel and repair as of several minutes ago, having exhausted all their ordnance. They returned thirty aircraft short, but their sortie was considered a reasonable success.

The Fifty F-19 Secret Chicken planes that made up the Faxanavian special flight forces looked on in awe. There were only about fifty of them, but each was designed with the most adanced cloaking systems there were. It was said that the only way to pick out a secret chicken was by walking into it. They were floating in the air space several hundred up over the the Londim navy when they saw the salvo of missles. They looked on in worry, then relief when they saw that quite afew were being blown out of the sky by anti -air power. The planes turned their attention on the moving silos. Now for some revenge...
They swooped in, remaining undetected by any radar the defense might have had, they swooped in. Deploying they're payload, they pulled up to watch the fireworks. Each of the weapons they dropped exploded in a vast, firey ball. But this was no ordinary fire. This was a titanium fire, incrdibly hard to put out. Foam only made it stronger. It burned metal. They watched on as it reaked it's havoc among the missle defenses.

"This is base to Gold 1, retreat back to Brukistan."

"Roger that, Gold squadron heading home."

Meanwhile at sea

"Fire the fourth wave of missiles" Admiral yelled.

"Missiles launched"

"Reload more"

"Sir we're out of missiles"

OOC: Just as a reminder as you retreat your going to run into the 3rd Fleet of the Londim Navy who were called back. The Pincer Attack is about to come about.

IC:

Thousands and thousands of missiles rained down on the Londim ships and shoreline. Many of the ships were hit and quite a few exploded killing all on board. The majority of Tsunami batteries were hit and many beyond repairing. As Drai watched the ships get hit he noticed the enemies retreating.

"Fools. They are going to have to fight their way out of this region. The 3rd Fleet is inbound to here. Send them a message."

A message was sent to the 3rd fleet telling them to expect the enemies.

3rd Fleet

The message was received upon the LNS Honour telling them of the retreating fleets. All ships were prepped to launch the missiles once the enemy came into sight. The enemy were about to have more blood shed.

OOC: Okay, but Avisron did already turn some forces towards defeating the third fleet. Just keep it in mind.
IC: The Secret Chickens had returned and met up with their fellows. As they soared back over the retreating fleets, a strang blip appeared on their radar. Moving closer. And it was big. A voice came in over the radio. "Gentleman, get back here, refuel, and be prepped to redeploy. It's not over yet." They flew back, prepped, and launched again. The Faxanavian refuel teams were quite efficient.
Soaring out over the waters of the sea, they saw the blip: The Londim forces, a huge wave of ships and naval power. The 10 squads swung forward, and deployed at breakneck speed. 10 squads is 500 planes, and each plane carried 7 explosives, or 3500 Honey Bee 4's dropping from the planes cargo holds. Such was the speed of the deployment that the anti-aircraft fire only started as the bombs dropped. A ripple of bullets later though, and the planes had hurtled off.

Lieutenant-General Archer smiled in satisfaction. For the second time, the LY300 Manticore/LY4045 ASCM had proven a highly effective combination. The Avrisonian and Hamilayan fleets were disengaging, short copious quantities of ships. They'd be back, of that the Lyran officer was sure, but for the moment they'd been driven off. The toll had been high, however, on Lyras' allies. Londim's Tsunami batteries had taken a pounding, and it would, no doubt, be some time before they were operational again. Many wouldn't be, and would have to be rebuilt.

In the interim, Lyran forces would fill the gap. He called for his signals officer to relay orders to the units under his control.

"All firing units bunker down. Emissions to minimum. Rearm and bring forward additional ammunition. Well done people. Will provide enemy casualty estimates when they become available."

He knew that the cheering he heard was probably his imagination. But, then, you never knew.

******************

Field Marshal Horn listened carefully to Archer's report. Most of what he was saying had already been corroborated by his Londimian liasion officer.

The coastal defences had been virtually destroyed. The problem with fixed emplacements was that any halfway competent enemy had them all mapped before the conflict even began.

But, fortunately, as Lyran theatre commander in a friendly nation, his assets were all mobile.

"Send my compliments to Major General Koris of 98th Artillery Corps, and Major General Tukkaya of 302nd Artillery Corps. Have them detach from General Walt's 70th Army Group, and proceed to rendezvous with Lieutenant-General Archer, near Huchnom. They are, until otherwise informed, attached to 19th Army Group."

"This is Harper."

"What the hell is going on, Admiral?"

"We have taken only minor losses so far, and the Tu-160 raid reports as a success. We are falling back and expect contact with enemy forces attempting to cut off our retreat presently."

"You have been given no orders to retreat. State your reasons."

"Sir, the enemy has an enormous amount of surface-to-sea missile batteries. Over fifty thousand cruise missiles have smashed the Avisronian navy to pieces. In the face of this, it was deemed prudent to retreat with all speed. If the naval landing is to continue, we need air support, and lots of it."

"Very well. Can you give us the locations of enemy batteries?"

"Yes, I'll uplink them now, but they may have moved in the meantime. Faxanavian aircraft report enemy medium-level antiaircraft systems in the area. UAVs are launching now, request B-3 Nightriders for air attack."

"Noted and concurred. Said aircraft are fuelled and ready for launch immediately. Good luck out there, Admiral."

The line clicked off.

"Sir, we have enemy naval forces detected to the south, trying to get ahead of us. Your orders?"

"Fire at will, once again. We can't afford to be hit by another cruise missile strike, so the fleet continues on the set course at full speed. Divert the attack submarines to face the threat to cover our retreat for a time."

A dozen RQ-3 Dark Star and RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the decks of the Hamilayan carriers, and turned towards the Londimian coast to hunt for the Lyran cruise missile launchers. Two hundred B-3 Nightrider stealth bombers were now in the air from Hamilay, and soon they would reach Londim and be ready to rain their bombs upon the launchers once they were pinpointed. The Hamilayan fleet continues retreating, but thirty Dolphin-class and Avenger-class SSNs, as well as some Phantom-class hunter-killer submarines, pull off and lie in wait for the approaching Londim Third Fleet.

Their names were Agent Blonde, Agent White, and Agent Pink. Whatever names they had before this objective were irrelevant. Their past, their family, their friends, and life outside of Londim had no meaning. They were brought in on a passenger plane stopping to let off people bound to Londim, and cleared their finely forged paper work with the local authorities. Their equipment smuggled in by well paid associates belonging to an international freight company, and delivered to a small farm house in a rural community. Their paper work clarified each of them as citizens of Londim. The hand of the OCULMAGT was invisible and untraceable, and it’s reach was frightening.

As soon as the trio arrived they began digging through the moist soil that served as the wall of the small farm’s basement. To hold the soil back there was a large mesh pad that stretched from one support unit to the next. The tunnel eventually would lead to a nearby abandoned mine, which the agents would use if it was necessary to make an escape. When the tunnel was completed they covered the hole up with a large shelf that had been left behind by the farm’s previous owners.

“Initial operations are complete.” White told Pink and Blonde. “Pink, you are on surveillance duty in the nearby town. Your records state that you are not a prime candidate to join the military due to your ‘condition’, so you are least likely to be picked up in random conscriptions. Blonde, you’ll get some rest. Tonight you’re going to scout the local highway from a secure location to watch for military transports. You’ve your orders. You know what to do. Let’s get to it.”

Communications had become somewhat better than previously but still not to full capacity as the source for the interception had not been found.

"Sir. Hostiles inbound for Huchnom and its defences. Orders?"

General Treo was weary. Many of his bases had been badly damaged. It was lucky that Londim was such a large nation allowing for a high number of bases. There were millions of military aircraft still on active duty.

"Hostiles will be intercepted. They won't have a chance. Ladies and Gentlemen. I am ordering the biggest air attack that we have ever launched on this, the day we are being attacked. I want tne 2nd, 12th, 13th and 5th Air Forces to be deployed to the area.", said Treo dryly.

"But Sir! Thats well over 3000 of our planes. You can't be serious?!"

"You think I want to send that many to the front line! I am serious. Its either that or fall to some small alliance out to get us!"

The orders were given and from 4 seperate airbases the fighters screamed into the sky to intercept the planes that were coming towards them and to attack any of the trailing enemy ships.

3rd Fleet

The first ship hit was unexpected. A torpedo had hit the hull and the ship rocked violently. As soon as that first shot was fired by the enemy, the submarines propelled forward to launch Drillers to both the enemy ships and submarines as well as normal torpedoes. Overhead enemy planes dropped their bombs targetting all Londim ships, some missed but many hit.

All ships Anti - Aircraft guns fired into the sky targetting the planes that had so quickly fired upon them. The AA guns were automatic allowing the sailors to concentrate on trying to blow the enemy out of the water. They fired the missiles targetting the bridges of the oncoming ships and torpedoes to sink the bastards.

The second battle had begun.

About 50 planes were hit by anti-aircraft guns. The rest went back to the aircraft carriers. On land, 400 VDB planes found a safe spot to land, refuel, make camp and plans. Then, they all took off towards the capital of Londim.

The RQ-3s and RQ-4s were out in force, and it didn't take a genius to work out what they were searching for.

It was, of course, expected, and Lieutenant-General Archer would almost have been disappointed if there had been no reconnaissance attempt at all.

Archer wasn't concerned. Lyran air surveillance was as good as any, better than most, and doctrine insisted that assets in position be invisible from the air. E/SIG footprint reduction efforts were constantly in place, again, as per doctrine. And the launchers themselves were back in their dispersed, hardened, pre-prepared shelters.

Not that the LDC knew that.

There was a dense cluster of LY220 air defence systems to the north-east, guarding something vital. In one respect, at least. The area had been pre-identified, by both sides, no doubt, as one of eight viable alternate sites for massed cruise missile launch.

Now the Lyran forces in theatre were guarding it. Ferociously. Air defence radar networks fanned out from that point. Camouflage nets were set up in important positions to conceal the nature of the vehicles underneath. Redoubts were built behind the nets for the Manticores to back into.

It was only a matter of time before surveillance elements detected the staging point. They would vector in an air attack. The attack would go ahead, and brave and highly competent pilots would put high-powered aircraft into harms way, doing their utmost to put 1000lb bombs into the camouflaged vehicles, braving one of the most heavily guarded patches of airspace in the world to do it.

Given the terrifying effect that the enormous cruise missile salvos had had on the LDC fleets, the efforts spent trying to silence the Manticores were, without hesitation, crucial.

Archer knew this. He knew that his enemies knew. He knew that his enemies knew that he knew.

They would come. He was ready for them.

Then when you nasty folks bomb it, as you will, because you're looking for launchers to bomb, there is a bucket-load of anti-air defences to make it expensive for you.

The trick will only work once or twice... but hey. I'll take what I can get.

Naval Theatre

Stealth is important on modern battlefields. Some nations had realized this sooner than others. Avisron had been one of those nations. Whereas many nations focused on massive surface fleets, the LFA understood that to obtain victory from an enemy, a nation much force said enemy to fight a war they weren't ready to fight.

That's why the Avisronian military had begun to field massive droves of submarines. With the introduction of the Starfisher program, the LibFed had acquired massive amounts of resources from the remains of orbital satellites that had been destroyed in wars ages ago. The salvage operation had significantly driven the price of producing a submarine down.

All of these factors had enabled the LFA to field a massive submarine fleet. Avisronian doctrine stated that submarines were to be the primary combatant of any prolonged conflict. That's why the Avisronian surface fleet had never engaged enemy forces entirely, and had pulled out relatively easy. This would lure many enemy combatants into a false sense of security.

One major component to submarine warfare was urgency. Did allied forces have to clear enemy held waters immediately? Of course not. The LFA had prepared itself for a decade long war. Within the first few months of conflict there was no need to press the issue and put good sailors in danger.

A few days after the Avisronian fleet was determined as out of harms way, another fleet moved in. A 500 vessel submerged fleet. All were Vickers Class Submarines. This contingent was the largest ever deployment of Avisronian submarine power. They trickled into the area. Patrolling at crush depth, beyond the range at which another submarine could open their torpedo bay doors to engage them, they were able to press into the region with relative impunity.

But numbers wouldn't be the most important factor in this game. Tactics would be. The Avisronian subs all relied on passive sonar, as would any force that didn't want to be obliterated. However, they relied on a relatively unique system. The submarines were deployed in pairs. One submarine would, for only three or four seconds, switch to active sonar. This would present a very appetizing target to enemy submarines. Then, the second submarine would, from a different position, switch to its active sonar. Nearly 20 seconds later, both would switch to active sonar and hope to beat the enemy to the drawl.

Then there were the surface attacks. Any small ship was a target for a massive torpedo strike. Occasionally a submarine would lob twenty or so missiles at a cruiser, effectively ensuring a kill.

And what was the best thing about this strategy? Attacking a submarine in silent running conditions was nearly impossible. This allowed the Avisronian navy to fight on its terms.

"Admiral, Dark Star 9 reports major concentrations of enemy antiaircraft vehicles at grid coordinates 55-4-Sierra, as well as firing positions covered in camo netting. Identified as possible location of cruise missile launchers, of course."

"Patch it through to the B-3s... no, wait. Something doesn't add up. Why go to the trouble of camouflaging the launchers but not the antiaircraft guns?"

The Air Force captain monitoring the various UAV feeds in CIC was a new officer, but sharp, and he caught on quickly.

"You're saying that they're not launchers at all, sir?"

"Perhaps, although it could simply be for lack of netting. Still, there are thousands of launchers out there, so..."

"Sir?"

"I don't like it. Assessment on the AA?"

"Lyran 220s, mid-level systems, like the Tunguskas. No SAM batteries that we can see."

Harper mused for a moment. "Unless there are a lot of SAMs hidden away, which there very well could be under that netting, we should be able to attack from outside the guns' ranges with minimal casualties. At the very least we'll kill some of the guns. Send coordinates to the B-3s and inform them they have clearance for airstrike. Captain!"

"Enemy fighters incoming," said a sailor calmly monitoring a radar screen. Officers nearby walked over to survey the approaching Londim aircraft.

The Adjudicator's captain, who had been standing by listening unobtrusively, stepped forward.

"Admiral?"

"Halt the retreat. All warships turn south to face the incoming Londim fleet and prepare to engage. Launch all carrier aircraft and fend off the air attack from the west, as well as launch first strikes against the enemy ships. If the Lyrans try and bombard us with cruise missiles again, they'll have to reveal themselves, and we can finally determine were those damned launchers are and kill them with our incoming bombers before they can do too much damage. We make our stand here."

"Arm all guns and open fire. We can beat them. They've come out of one battle and into another. They haven't had time to recover."

All weapon systems were armed and targetting the Hamilay fleet ready to unleash hell and send the enemy sailors to their watery graves.

"Lets show them how this is done.Fire!"

As the order was given the ships opened fire. Hundreds of missiles screamed towards the Hamilay fleet...

Running a war was a lot like running an economy. A certain level of greed was required to become competitive, but too much greed would eventually destroy you. This concept was especially true in the current conflict. Londim and its allies had managed to inflict significant damage on the attacking fleets; enough damage to, infact, force them into retreat. However, rather than celebrating this small victory and allowing the Hamilayan fleet to pass by relatively unobstructed, the Londimians had gotten greedy and tried to inflict even more damage.

The current situation was very simple. The Hamilayan fleet and the Londimian 3rd Fleet were fairly evenly matched. Both had taken significant damage from massive cruise missile strikes. This meant that the battle between them would take a long, long time. It was a deadlock. No one had a major advantage.

That was, until the Avisronian reinforcements began to trickle in. It was no secret that it would take months for the Avisronian submarine fleet to move completely into the region. Because of this, several dozen vessels had moved in, but many others were in the process of doing so.

So while the Londimian commanders who had so smugly ordered their forces to follow the Hamilayans sat back and watched the battle from the safety of their command centers, the Avisronians struck. Hundreds of torpedoes began to emerge from the depths in a relentless torrent that would harass the Londimians.

Very Far Above Londim

Thirty years before the Londimian conflict, most military scholars spoke of three distinct areas of combat. Air, sea, and land. But time had passed. Some nations had invested massively into another medium. Space. There were now nations in the world which possessed the ability to strike at other nations from space. It was expensive, sure, but because there still existed many nations whom hadn't made the investment, occasionally it would provide an attacking military a one-hundred perfect efficient operation.

Avisron had been one of those nations to make the investment. Of course, this meant that Avisron didn't have massive ground forces, but Avisronian doctrine didn't need massive ground forces. The Avisronian navy and air/space forces usually obliterated all armed resistance before ground forces were even used.

And that was the plan in the current Londimian conflict. The Avisronian military would slowly, methodically, strategically beat the Londimian society into the ground.

There's one important thing that Avisronian commanders had to remember, however. It didn't matter how well they pounded the Londimian forces; if they were able to quickly rebuild, it wouldn't matter. And because of this, the Avisronians prepared to strike.

While opposing naval forces bombarded each other, another element prepared to make itself known. In space above Londim, thirty six triangular objects quickly pressed towards their firing positions. These objects were the upper tier of the Avisronian military. The AVB-18 "Comet" Advanced Strategic Kinetic Bomber.

From the ground, almost anyone looking up could see them. Almost no effort was made in making them stealthy to ground based targets. Why? Even with hours of warning it was unlikely a defending nation would be able to challenge them. They were, however, able to defend themselves from spaceborne attacks.

As these triangular spacecraft passed over Londim, objects began to fall from them. Sixteen from each one. Before long there were 576 "spikes" falling towards the surface of Londim. Each would have the kinetic energy of a tactical nuclear warhead - without the radiation.

What were they targeting? The industrial base of the nation. Anything that looked like it could build something useful to the war effort was targeted. Automobile plants. Chemical plants. Anything.

The spikes fell like spears from the Gods. One by one they hit and one by one factories fell and people died. Klallam watched the destrctuion rain down on the nation and anger flashed through her eyes. Minqua and Sts' Ailes were getting damage reports when the Economic Advisor, Marsh, burst in.

"This is horrible!, he exclaimed," The whole Centra Construction sector has fallen. Thats a big blow to our capabilities. The Northern and Western centres have had to triple their output. It'll take time to reach normal capacity again."

"What of our enemies?" said Klallam.

"The Faxnavians seem to be retreating but our Fleet is being bombarded from all sides. 3rd fleet can only hold on for so long so I've sent them special orders as they are in trouble. If they go down they'll take much of the enemy with them...", said Minqua after dismissing Marsh.

Battlezone

The 3rd Fleet was being hit from all angles. Aerial support had come in to help the fleet and bomb enemy ships but planes could not fight subs. The enemy subs were the most difficult to deal with as they had come out nowhere. Then the orders came.

"Release the Thunder."

Thats all the order was but every ships Captain hesitated. The Thunder was untested in battle even though all ships were now armed with it. Preliminary reports had described the weapon as "effective yet unpredictable."

So what was Thunder? Thunder was a bomb but not any bomb. The bomb would descend into the sea until it was 250 metres down. Here it would activate. All you had to do was imagine a nuclear blast underwater that also released large bolts of electricity as quick and powerful as lightning. Water plus electricity was bad enough. Water plus electricity plus metal was even worse. All londim ships had some rubber on the hulls to absorb the shocks. This was no EMP. No stealth objext would be able to avoid it if that object was made of metal. All that it did was act as a conductor. The lightining woas powerful enough to melt metal so it could pierce a hole in any ships or subs or it could fry all electrical equipment due to overheating. As already stated effective but unpredictable.

This was the reason the Captains were hesitiant but they launched the bombs anyway and waited to see what would happen...

The ship was underwater. One half of the VDB fleet was gone. The rest was thirsting for revenge. "Launch torpedoes!" cried a Admiral on one of them. Another 100 missiles flew towards the Londim 3rd Fleet....

Meanwhile, in the air, the fighters and bombers had landed at their temporary base. "200 planes, fighters and bombers, to Lyras!" cried General Curtis Granderson. "Destroy the capital!"

This front was pretty much over. But Lyras had to be dealt with.

Naval Combat

The Avisronian submarine force was having a field day. Hundreds of torpedoes had passed through its tubes and into the Londimian fleet. The Londimian 3rd Fleet was in the process of being obliterated and, thus far, Avisronian casualties had been relatively small.

Suddenly an electrical spike was detected. Messages bounced between the submarines. No one knew exactly what was going on. Then a bulletin came across.

"Londimian weapon system in use. Large undersea electrical storm detected. Should end briefly. Cease fire until informed."

The Londimian weapon was not, in any sense of the word, useful. The one thing that Londimian scientists had forgotten was the size of the worlds oceans. The electrical charge they had dropped into the ocean would be quickly diffused outward and thus, not very strong in any one concentrated area. The only real threat was to any torpedo that happened to be passing nearby, and commanders couldn't afford to have their ordnance wasted.

The attacking submarines wait a short time, then resume their all out bombardment of the Londimian navy.

Space Combat

A few hours after the Avisronian orbital bombardment of the Londimian industrial sector, those same aircraft had been reloaded, refueled, and were sailing through low earth orbit back towards Londim. This time roughly half of them were designated to strike at the industrial sector; the rest were ordered to bomb select power plants.

"Incoming missiles, sah," said a lieutenant, with maddening calm.

"Right back at the bastards," growled the captain of the Adjudicator. "Begin full missile launch sequence and open fire with all guns."

The warships of the Hamilayan fleet followed suit with the superdreadnought, and hundreds of their own missiles flashed in launching and cut trails of smoke through the air towards the Londimian vessels. The S-300s fired once again from the light missile cruisers, adding to the CIWS fire and RIM-116s launching from the rest of the fleet against the incoming enemy missiles. Six ships were unlucky, and were struck by multiple missiles, exploding instantly and spectacularly and double that number again were crippled and began to take on water, the mechanical voice of "Abandon ship. All hands, abandon ship." resounding throughout their decks.

The first of a thousand A-7 and FH-48C strike aircraft were in the air, and the rest were steadily rolling off the decks of the carriers. As the fleets closed, they immediately attacked with all their weapons, some firing on enemy missiles and ships as soon as they soared off the runways, hundreds of guided bombs and air-launched missiles and cruise missiles joining the ships' own missiles and shells firing on the Londim 3rd Fleet.

The Hamilayan submarines had suffered the most, having to cover the temporary retreat of the warships with little support. Eight submarines had now gone with all hands to watery graves, as such was the nature of submarines. However, the timely arrival of Avisronian submarines had been a godsend for the captains of the moderate force, with Londimian ASW ordnance having dozens more targets to fire at.

"Sir. You may want to look at this. Low-level exo-atmospheric contacts."

36 objects moved deceptively slowly across the radar screen, colour denoting that it was a Bastion contact, the 2nd of the LY471 Skyguard AA/ABM system's three available. They were at the far edge of the Bastion's envelope, having just transitioned over from the Moat early warning radar, which had a range out to 7980km.

This wasn't just an air defence system. Skyguard was Lyras' means of ensuring theatre- and operational- air defence.

This particular machine was set in the mountains near Abnaki, part of the anti-air and anti-ballistic missile defence systems of 103rd Air Defence Division, in turn part of 62nd Army Group.

""Same place, same general track and dispersal pattern. I'd say that's them. Flight profile is... yeah... firming... nearly identical. They will pass over Londimian airspace."

Captain Will Blackman, in charge of this battery of the air defense system, stood up from his desk, and took three quick, long strides to where the SGT manning the display was located. He looked at the display, where the man was indicated, and swore to himself.

"Concur, sergeant. Run a diagnostic, just to be sure."

"Sir, it's the same as before. The... whatever they were... were released by targets just like those, and if we leave them be, then they will do it to..."

"You have your orders, sergeant. Confirm it. The last thing I want to do is start a war with someone else, if we are wrong."

The display showed an altitude of nearly 112km, moving at standard exo-atmospheric speeds. Which, needless to say, was very fast indeed.

"Yes sir." the man responded, glad that the captain had, as usual, come up with a reasonable response. If it were any other nation's radar, it probably wouldn't even have seen the blips in the first place.

The captain, however, didn't stand still. Protocol was still protocol. He hit the alarm switch. Klaxons began to wail, while red strobe lights summoned personnel to their stations. The Captain wasn't sorry to get everyone back from whatever they were doing. Extreme-high altitude air defence was one of the most relaxed, little-called upon positions in the Lyran Protectorate, and it was about time they earned their keep.

"Diagnostic checks out sir, target is real..."

"Ok, gents, lets do it... Sergeant North, arm the birds, Hodges, get Cromwell working on telemetry. Dickenson, get on the phone to HQ, let them know we have a confirmed non-allied exo-atmospheric target, and we are engaging as per standing orders for opening fire."

"Tracking and guidance online." A technician vocalised. That meant that there was a positive lock, from the Keep targetting systems. There was a brief pause.

"Coolant flows nominal". High-powered computers needed to be kept functioning, after all.

"Exo-atmospheric targetting normal. Automatics engaged." Another put in.

"Computer priority sequencing at standard" reported a third.

Blackman sipped his tea, and tried to stay calm. He had often wanted to be at a space launch, or some such, but had, for some reason or other, never quite gotten around to it. Around him, his men and his machines were harmonising to the task at hand, merging in perfect synchronisation, as one after the other anounced the readiness of themselves and their equipment.

Finally:

"Ready to fire" the Senior Gunner reported, completing the recitation.

Attention turned to the right of the control vehicle, where another vehicle had its array focused on a section of sky to the northwest...

"We have target acquisition"

Two seats down Captain Blackman, a technician pushed his chair back from the desk to ensure that he didn't accidentally touch anything. The "automatic" light on his station were flashing on and off.

***

Three hundred metres away, three five meter high launchers pivoted on their mounts, while one ridge over, another trio aligned their tubes as directed by the phased-array radars following the contact across the sky. Alarm klaxons and hazard lights warned everyone in the open to take cover.
***

Once on station, the tubes of the launching units tracked slowly, but noticably, to the six radar screens which monitored them.

"Target speed 20,000"

The images were stylised, diamond-shaped blips, glowing slightly against the background of the display.

No one heard anything. The control vehicle was sealed, and insulated against sound. But the rattle of his teacup let Captain Blackman know that the LY4032 'Rampart' missiles were away.

*****

The LY4032 “Rampart”, is the highest altitude component of Lyras' ABM defence, and is a liquid-fueled, three-stage, upper tier exo-atmospheric weapon, with a 450km range and a 2 Mt nuclear warhead. The system is radar (command) guided, and is one of the most extensively tested and maintained pieces of equipment fielded by the Protectorate. Security measures surrounding the handling (and export) of LY4032 are rigorous, as befits the system's composition.

The doctrine was simple. Exo-atmosphericly deployed weapons systems are, by nature, strategic. And Skyguard was arguably the most effective anti-ballistic missile system in the world, with a hit rate of 0.87. If an LY4032 could hit a ballistic missile, then it could hit a manned aerospace-craft.

The missiles carried 2 megaton warheads, designed to ensure that near-misses on hostile nuclear weapons would be enough. In this case, a near-miss by any of the 6 missiles fired ought to do the job.

Lyras wouldn't let its ally get hit again.

Space Combat

High above Londim there was a battle taking place. The Avisronian space assets had swarmed back into the area and began bombarding Londimian industrial compounds once again. This was fun to watch for the Avisronian government, as it likely meant their own economy would face less competition in the future.

Then, they were detected. A series of launches were identified and confirmed by several early warning satellites. It was also obvious that these missiles would likely be nuclear in nature, given that it was unlikely they'd be able to actually hit a space plane. They'd need a cluster attack.

The Avisronians pressed forward with their attack, opting to sacrifice themselves before simply retreating. The Londimian industry would be destroyed. Their lives were a small price to pay.

Suddenly, flashes. Nuclear explosions. There was indeed death. Twelve of the bombers fell.

Back in Avisron several military commanders watched a screen in awe. The Londimians, or the Lyrans, or someone, had just nuked their bombers. This was a massive escalation in the war. The Avisronian military would respond with nuclear weapons. They just didn't know how, yet.

The Eastern Industrial Belt fell next with the ongoing space onslaught. The Thunder bombs had been of little use. Londim seemed at a loss of what to do. It seemed unlikely for the time that the LDC would carry out a land bases invasion and they would be foolish to do so. They would've been crushed in a few days. The Lyrans were proving a valuable ally in the defence of Londim.

Resa City was a well protected city but since war had broken out the protection had stepped up. As far as 100 miles out AA guns and missile launchers had been constructed and a wave of them spread back towards the city. No enemy planes were going to get through that hellish airzone. A wall was also being built around the city but one with enough exits to escape in the threat of targetted bombardment.

Minqua watched the wall being constructed from the palace windows when Sts'Ailes walked in.

"It seems we have entered a new stage in this war. The Nuclear Stage has begun. It was a successful strike against the enemy thanks to the Lyrans but we must be ready for a nuclear strike against the lands of Londim.", said Sts'Ailes.

"Well there is always MAD. If we go down then we'll go down swinging. However we should also prepare to take out the subs that plague our waters. The Thunder didn't work. Whoever came up with that is fired.", replied Minqua.

"Well we do have our subs that we still have nearby not to mention the ones out at sea that we could call back. Thats near on 10000 subs altogether. The 2000 we have in reserve at home can be deployed and in battle within the next couple of hours.", said Sts'Ailes calmly.

"Then that is what shall be done. Make sure they enter the battlezones through Stealth Mode."

All planes, subs, ships, tanks had been fitted with stealth devices in case they were needing to invade or defend quickly. The enemy subs were suddenly going to have a new battle on their hands...

Lyran Air Defence Command had tracked the inbound flight for several hours. The “packet” as it was termed, included several different aircraft types, all of which were classified as “low-observability”. Currently the aircraft were angling north, from their earlier easterly heading to the south of Port Finch. They was some thinking involved, that much was sure, with the aircraft avoiding the obvious direct approach, which would have taken them over the far stiffer air defences around the city of Osmouth, and treacherously close to the positions at Castlegate as well. This route would take them a few hundred kilometers west of Port Finch, on a heading of nearly due north, towards Bredubar.

While the aircraft were of varying degrees of low-observability, it was actually rather academic. The Moat had struggled to pick them up, but had flagged the suspicious readings, and when the Bastion system had taken over, it had detected the F/A-22s with little effort. The presence of the fifty F/A-22 aircraft also gave away the fact that there would be more. Flying only F/A-22 aircraft was non-sensical. Keep, the most powerful but shortest range of the LY471's radar systems (at a mere 1200km) picked up the rest of the attack group, F117A and B2 aircraft a couple of hours later.

So Lyran Air Defence Command went up an alert status. 24 squadrons of TSF-624 “Shukusei” fighters were scrambled from bases around Port Finch, Southbastion, Riker and Bredubar itself. With 18 aircraft in a squadron, that meant that there were now 432 Advanced Air Superiority Fighters in the air.

Shortly thereafter the interceptors got into the air, they went supersonic, vectored in on the now-clearly-hostile aircraft by Air Defence Command. The interceptors linked up just south of Port Finch, then headed south, making for the approaching aircraft.

The hostile aircraft were well warned, but did not respond. Having crossed into Lyran Territorial Airspace over 30 minutes ago, but not yet having made landfall, the order came through authorising lethal force.

The Keep system out of Port Finch turned up its power to maximum, getting radar return from the hostile aircraft that was sufficient for the air-launched medium-range missiles to track with their own seeker heads.

Unexpectedly, the hostiles launched missiles. Aim-9 Sidewinders, by the radar return. The operators of the Keep system looked at each other in surprise. The Aim-9 was a short-range, infra-red guided missile, used primarily in dogfights or other close engagements. The Keep operators opened a channel to the TSF-624 squadrons, and informed them of the development.

It wouldn't matter. The missiles the Shukusei squadrons were easily capable of striking from 100km away, and each aircraft carried six. 2592 missiles launched, and the interceptors peeled off, the Keep radar guiding the missiles towards the target.

At Port Finch Air Defence HQ, a colonel watched the engagement unfold on the radar. It was almost sad. Those brave pilots... whoever they were, charging headlong towards one of the most heavily defended airspaces on the planet. He spoke to his team.

“Prepare ground-based missiles for launch. Set radars to acquire, four-missile ripples.”

It never hurt to be sure.

“Sir, there are nearly twenty-six hundred missiles targetting 150 aircraft. With the amount of radar energy being sent their way, any of those aircraft would be lucky to avoid one missile, let alone the 17 that are targetted at each. Cromwell is making sure that each one of their aircraft is being attacked. Why waste missiles by firing more?”

The colonel didn't answer immediately, but watched the hostile Aim-9s run out of fuel and drop into the sea.

“To stand by and do nothing dishonours our enemy. He must know of his fate. But he comes regardless. Fire the weapons, sergeant. Fire the weapons, and remember, as we do, those that die so that we do not.”

Ground-based missiles fired, several dozen, on the off chance that an act of God stopped the Shukusei's missiles from felling the hostile packet.

OOC: VDB, war crimes are when weapons are used indiscriminately against civilians. Arguably the dropping of kinetic "spikes" on civilian centres is a war crime. The use of nuclear weapons, in and of itself, especially in space above your own country, is not a war crime, although it is somewhat poorly regarded. So, no, you're ok.

Not your pilots though. They're pretty screwed.

OOC: He's got me.

The plane's radar instantly read what seemed like billions of missiles heading toward them. "Unload everything, and run away!" cried the commander, now fearing for his life. The rest of the dumb bombs were released and some AIM-9s were sent at the approaching aircraft. The planes started using their afterburner, supercruise, whatever could get them away from those missiles. They quickly raced towards the Londim front (assumingly quite a long way away) hoping that would be the end of the radar's field. And maybe some missiles would target some Londim ships.

OOC: There are no approaching aircraft...
2592 missiles launched, and the interceptors peeled off
just missiles. And air-to-air missiles wont target ships. Assuming, that is, that you managed to make it that far. Which, especially for the F117s and B2s, is very unlikely, as neither craft is supersonic. The F/A-22s have slightly more chance, but they wont shake the missiles, as they are guided via ground control. Radar range is over 1000km... sorry bud :(

Oh, ouch, that's dead.

IC:

One by one the planes were downed. A huge explosion ran through the sky. Happiness for the nation of Lyras, a warning for the nation of the VDB.

Naval Combat

It was over. After weeks of ongoing battle between opposing surface combatant fleets, the engagement had ended with the near destruction of much of the Avisronian, Londimian, and Hamilayan surface fleets. The large Avisronian submarine force that had been deployed had appeared to change the course of the naval conflict, and possibly even the war, had it ever been in Londims favor - which was highly debatable.

Even though the modern attack submarine was the most stealthy vehicle ever produced, it was highly easy to tell when thousands of them were moving in unison. Avisronian spy satellites detected the plumes of heated water coming from the massive Londimian submersible fleet, weeks before it was in the region. This gave the 490 remaining Avisronian submarines ample time to disengage in an orderly manner. They did, however, leave several large, spherical containers behind. They made no sound. They had no moving parts. They simply sank to the bottom of the ocean and blended in with the wreckage and natural clutter that polluted the ocean floor.

At this point in the war it appeared another stalemate had been reached.

At this point in the war it appeared another stalemate had been reached.

The Naval battle had taken a toll on all sides and the need to rebuild was strong. The submarines scoured the seas for any suspicious or enemy ships but so far nothing had appeared. The War factories were working at full capacity building and creating replacemnts for vehicles destroyed and weapons lost.

Air defences had been upgraded to have faster firing and reloading times and also the attacks from space and made the weapons developers create specialist missiles to deal with missiles from space. The Space Shield Missiles (SSM's) were desighned to intercept and destroy weapons that were launched from space or any vehicles that travelled that high in the atmosphere. All were being tipped with 1 Mt nuclear warheads to make sure enough damage was done.

VDB forces on the ground immediately set up Tomahawk firing stations and SAMs, as well as tanks. Meanwhile, on water, the VDB submarines crept towards the incoming subs, while VDB ships prepped their anti-submarine missiles and helicopters. Then the helicopters were launched with enough fuel for several hours, and were launched in shifts, two to a shift, for ten copters.

Offshore Londim

The major problem with Londimian naval doctrine was simple. Massing thousands of submarines in a relatively small area left them extremely vulnerable to a massed strike. Such a short time after the enemy used nuclear weapons on the Avisronian space crafts, it was a deadly combination.

It was an early morning when they began to rise. The devices so discreetly left on the ocean floor fired off small boosters that propelled them upward. Once they reached the average sailing depth of an attack submarine, they detonated. Each was a kiloton-range thermonuclear warhead. There were dozens of them, spread out. They were usually concentrated outside major port cities, in areas likely to be patrolled by the thousands of submarines in the area.

Whereas the Lyran attack in space had used only a few megaton range warheads, the Avisronian attack had dozens of smaller yield devices. This allowed them to cover a massive range. The pressure waves from the attack would surely overwhelm the hulls of many vessels.

Shortly after the attack, a message from the Avisronian Department of State was delivered to Londim. It read very simply: Any and all nuclear attacks on Avisronian assets will be responded to equally. We're even. Don't end the world.

The pressure of th explosions gad taken a toll on some of the subs in th area. 136 were lost due to the pressure taking their crews with them and another 400 had to be savd or repair work. The Avisrions would pay.

Klallam read the note she had received from the Avisrion Government and replied:

Remember it was not us who started this war but we will end it. Due to some of your actions you have hit civilian centres, a crime in itself. I personally will be the one to pull the trigger against your leaders head.

She could not with hold her anger at the actions the Avisirions had taken.

One nifty thing about the Avisronian economy was that it was somewhat naturally inclined to perform well during times of conflict. This wasn't something built into it by strategists, however. The Avisronian economy had long been very far ahead of the curve in terms of technological development; especially in manufacturing. This meant that, during peacetime, there simply weren't many manufacturing jobs. Efforts had been taken to place people into jobs, but the high levels of automation were simply crushing skilled labor.

This all changed after the war with Londim started, however. The production of "throw away" products, such as the AVG-03 Krisona UCAV, had reduced the unemployment rate to virtually zero. The Avisronian economy was more than booming. It was growing. The government refocused funds from the government budget surplus into a massive campaign to make Avisronian airspace the most secure in the world.

Londimian Airspace

The byproduct to genius Avisronian strategic foresight was now sailing through the air towards Londim. Thirty thousand AVG-03 Krisona UCAV's, loaded with their combined 150,000 bombs, were positioned for the largest air bombardment of the war. The air armada had a plethora of targets, on this day. The highest priority targets were things like bridges, railroad terminals, and civilian power and communications stations. Secondary targets were the remaining industrial centers. Sprinkled within the armada of UCAV's were 15,000 AVF-39 Harris Air Superiority Fighters.

Alarms sounded throughou the bases all over Londim. Th only reason the alarms wuld go off like this would be in the event of a nuclear strike or a massive attack on Londim and its people. It seemed that the large attack as about to occur.

The Palace, Resa

"What the hell is going on?!", shouted Minqua. "What is the status?"

Minqua was upset for two reasons. One was that Londim was being attacked nd two was that he had been interrupted in his sleep. That made him cranky.

"It appears Sir we're about to be attacked by a large air force."

"How large?"

"Numbering in the hundred......thousands..."

"What?! Iwant every avaliable fighter to take out these planes. Have all AA guns and bases on Full Alert. Warn the Lyrans of the incoming planes. Make sure the enemy doesn't get to Resa!"

Fighters scrambled into the air, anti aircraft guns and missles were prepped. It seemed the next battle was about to begin.

Above Londim

One thing learned by the Avisronian Air Force had learned in other conflicts, as well as this one, was that they could obtain a certain number of anti-aircraft position kills if they merely waited a few extra moments before dropping their bombs. Most modern militarys deployed massive amounts of decoy targets designed to look like anti-aircraft batteries. This made an effective first strike inefficient without massive numbers.

However, if attacking forces waited until the AA fired upon them, spy satellites overhead could easily pinpoint and confirm legitimate targets, thus allowing them to be bombarded. And that's exactly what happened over Londim on this day. Hundreds if not thousands of Londimian anti-aircraft sites were discovered simply by waiting for them to fire.

The AVF-39 Harris Air Superiority Fighter had several major advantages. For starters, its RADAR signature was very similar to that of the AVG-03 UCAV. For this reason the Harris was able to fire at Londimian planes while staying relatively hidden within the armada of UCAV bombers. Given that each Harris had six missiles, 90,000 air-to-air missiles were available to the Avisronian Air Force during this battle.

The Avisronian air armada invested careful attention into making sure its forces were adequately spaced out. That is, they were prepared for Londimian or Lyran forces to deploy nuclear weapons against them. By spreading out it ensured that to hit a significant number of Avisronian targets, the enemy would need to use a higher number of weapons. Should they make the decision to do so, it would allow the Avisronians to justify a larger attack in their retaliation.

Meanwhile, the Avisronian government continues to use the war as an excuse to spend trillions on a military build up. Funds are cut from industries such as fishing, where they only existed in order to raise wages and recruit more people into the industry, whom are now working in manufacturing. Because of years of steady investment into infrastructure upgrades, the Avisronian government is also able to slash funds in that department. The majority of the excess funds are used to build new factories to produce a myriad of war materials.
