International News Blub Broadcasting Network

The Blub Colony
14-06-2007, 23:12
A camera zoomed into a television studio with the logo "BBN", in the corners of the screen video and pictures flash from various broadcasts. The camera seems to fly over the studio, and points at the desk where two anchors sit. On the left was a handsome Blub, and on the right a pretty little Blubette. They smiled, "Hi, I'm Burg and this is Lisa. Welcome back to BBN, this is news at the top of the hour."

Local

The camera focused on Lisa, "In local news, Questers has confirmed that it will keep a reserve fleet in Blubland which can be activated in the event of an emergency. While creating jobs locally to maintain and service the ships, it also strengthens the bond between Havenites."

Burg smiled into the camera, "We have good news off the east coast. That Silver Sky cargo ship which floundered during yesterday's storm has been located and the crew safely rescued. They are recieving treatment at Ellsie Memorial Hospital and are expected to be released later tonight."

"Paradise Island has suffered another setback, when yesterday's storm washed tons of sand onto the beaches and flooded the golf courses. Engineers had worried about this problem and planned to construct enough retainment to keep waters out. However due to budget concerns, it wasn't due to be completed until next year. Clean up crews are working to remove debris."

International
"In international news, Hataria has declared war on Wanderjar. No one really cares all that much. Hataria also announced it has rebuilt its navy. Again.. no one really cares."

"The nation of Route1 declared war on Maldoria. Despite being out-numbered to begin with, Route1 was forced to contend with even greater odds as many other nations became involved on Maldoria's behalf. The latest news is that Route1 has surrendered. Fighting which was sparked by the inccident continues."

"In related politics, a reliable source has informed us that the GASN has fallen apart."

"Questers announced the formation of ten new regiments of strategic bomber aircraft and are rumored to be in development of new missile weaponry."

"New Vantania announced a military build-up but promised no imperialistic moves."

Quirk of the Week

The camera changed pictures to a Blub standing in a bright, sunny soccer field and wearing a roman type crested helmet. "We now to go Dirk with Dirk's Quirk of the Week."

Dirk grinned. "Hi, Burg and Lisa. I'm here at Hazel Park in downtown Crystal City with a group of people calling themselves 'The Wolf Pack'." The camera zoomed out to show a crowd of Blubs dressed in home-made type leather armor and swinging foam weapons wildly. "It's the latest craze to hit the youth of Blubland. It's called Belegarth Foam Fighting, and as you can see.. it is a full-contact sport."

"Contestants use half inch plastic piping, add a layer of padding and then enter combat in teams with each other. There is a point system and armor. Obviously, one should not aim for the head! I judge it to be Dirk's Quirk for this week, and encourage youngsters to get out of the house and away from the television and computers. Get some exercise and have fun."

Sports

Baseball
An announcer took over as it showed reels from various sporting events. "In baseball this weekend, we'll be seeing the Blubland Baloogas playing their first international game against Silver Sky's Sky Raiders. It's been billed as one of the great events of the summer, and is sold out."

Racing
"The great Havenite solar car challenge continues. A 3,000 mile competition featuring contestants from many of Haven's nations."

Health
The scene comes in on Burg and Lisa at the studio. Lisa smiles, "Welcome back. With us today is Gretta, our health correspondant." The camera zooms back a little to show Gretta. "What do you have for us this week?"

"Well, Lisa, there's been another outbreak of mad cow in the northern territory of Blubland. Luckily, it was caught early and that particular farm has submitted to the inspections and clean-up. No tainted meat managed to get into our grocery stores."

"This summer looks like a hot one. Be sure to wear plenty of sun screen if you go to the beach or are outside for very long periods of time, and drink, drink, drink water! Solar flares were detected last month, and scientists suspect it may be one of the causes of skin cancer, so please be sure to visit our website to check on solar flare activity before planning any vacations or outdoor activities."

Burg looked at the camera, "And that's the end of the show tonight. Please stay tuned for a new episode of Survivor: Death Island."
