Formal Name: The Kievan Republic

History: Since the fall of the USSR, the Keivan Republic has existed in a sense. Although most would argue that up until the schism between Odessan Ukrainians and the Kievan Ukrainians in 2002 that the Ukraine was one country. Wrong they were. Although the not truly an existing state, the Keivan Republic worked hard to develope past it's souther rival. And in, 2002, when the Schism occured, a civil war broke out.
The war lasted 3 years and took many Ukrainian lives. In 2005, the Kiev/Odessa Accords were signed, signify that there were two distinct Ukrianian States. Odessa in the south and Kiev in the north. There was much joy amongst the veteran Kievan Republic Followers and Leaders. This joy was tempered early one January morning in 2006. That day, Chernobyl exploded again.
Much of the Zone of Alienation, which had been steadily begun to become less radiated, was radiated again. But this time, it went past the former end of the zone. The Zone now extends 40kms in any direction, 10 kms more then the former Zone. Much of what was once lightly radiated, received humongous doses of Radiation. The little wild-life that lived there before the explosion and survived the explosion, mutated into horrible beasts. Their reproductive cycles appeared to have also mutated because their populations boomed quite soon after the explosion.
Much of the Kievan Military and resources were spent trying to contain area and for 12 years the much of the Kiev Oblast was in danger. During this time the Parliament moved to the city of Zhytomyr in the West. There were also rumors of a Odessan Invasion being planned, but it never happened. AFter 12 years, the Military declared that the Kiev Oblast was safe again. They also declared that for some odd reason, the areas not directly with 5kms of the Reactor have very small amounts of Radiation. These areas although are packed with what Kievan Scientists call Anomalies. These things go against almost all of the scientific laws.
Since then, the Kievan Republic has seen a small era of prosperity. Everything is seemingly getting better with each year. Food is more readily available. Factories are actually being repaired. Everything looks bright for the Kievan Republic in the latter part of the 2020s.
Current Standings: The Kievan Republic tries to keep relations at a minimum. As such it does not have any allies or enemies, save the Odessans.

Paramilitary: There are numerous Paramilitary groups with the Kievan Republic. Incidentally they have al become known as STALKERS. They mainly populate the Zone of Alienations, looking for what they call Artifacts. There Artifacts supposedly bestow odd powers to the wearer, usually at the cost of becoming slightly radiated. The only two STALKER groups worth mentioning are the Freedom and Duty Factions. Freedom wants to open up the Zone to everyone from the world, while Duty wants to close it down for good. Although the Government only nominally recognizes their existance. It has allowed the Duty Faction to order specialized equipment from Labs in Kiev. These Factions fight amongst each other and against the remaining Military in the region.
