Welcome Citizen, to the Terran Federation. It is our pleasure at FedNet to inform you about the status of the Federation and provide you with all the information you need to support your nation! What would you like to do first?"

The cursor moves over to a bar with the words "Terran Federation", causing a it to slide down revealing choices. It scrolls down to "History" and clicks on it. The screen flashes and a screen pops up, with a steel border.

History

By the 28th, rampant crime and ineffective or too-lenient authorities had resulted in the 'Terror', which engulfed the Solaris Federation and to a lesser extent Catan and Furania, amongst other places.

In addition to this, tensions resulted in a bloody war (possibly the First "Space War") between the Commonwealth of Socialist Nations and the Solarisian-Catanian-Furanian Alliance. During the chaos brought about by the war, a group of armchair politicians seized control of the Solaris Federation in an incident known as the "Revolt of the Scientists". The reign of these "Scientists" was short lived. Shortly after the overthrow of the "Scientists", the Treaty of New Svrania was signed. This treaty did not provide for the liberation of the estimated 65,000 POWs held by both sides. While the CommonwealthPOWs were indeed released (some choosing to remain in the countries they were imprisoned in), military and 'political' prisoners from the Alliance - two divisions of Catanian paratroopers and thousands of Srvanian, Furanian and Keldorian civilians - either died in POW camps or had to escape.

In the aftermath of the war, the nations of Terrasia lay in chaos and ruin. During the chaos, small groups of vigilantes maintained order. These vigilantes were veterans of the wars, and quite likely former POWs. These veterans were wary of civilian politicians because, in addition to the POW foul-up, it was these people who had glorified the democracies' "mythology of rights" and in doing so "lost track of their duties". In a few generations, the Terran Federation was established and its constitution was signed including a provision limiting the voting franchise to discharged veterans.

Then came the First and Second Space Wars, where the Federation battled rebellion and civil war. They were both harsh wars and resulted in many casualties. On the good side, however, they forced reforms, both economic and political, as well as set up the efficient system of training M.I's and helped to push advancement in military technology. The second major crisis for humanity came in the form of the Arachnid Empire, or the "Bugs" as humans called them. A hivemind race, controlled by Brain Bugs, the remainder of the Bugs were soulless, drone-like beings, who only knew to kill and do what their telepathic masters tell them to do. They encroached on human space, eventually sending a rock to destroy Buenos Aries. This led humanity to war against the Bug race, a devastating and immense conflict which spanned many systems, revealing the Skinnies, allies of the Bugs and it even involved Earth itself being invaded. The Bugs were tough to defeat, not only did their Queen spew out thousands of eggs, creating the hordes of Bugs that the Mobile Infantry struggled to face, but they also were able to alter their young, with genetic DNA of native inhabitants of planets, to make warriors to suit that planet and increase their chances for victory. Examples of campaigns were the Pluto, Tophet, Zephyr and Homefront Campaigns.

The war ended when a squad of elite M.I's, Rico's Roughnecks, penetrated the Queen's lair on Terrasia and killed her. This severed the Bugs last connection to a commanding force, and they began to rampage, killing each other and wiping themselves out, aided by the remnant of Federation forces.

In the aftermath, some one-hundred and twenty years, the Federation nearly tripled in size, claiming system after system for the sake of humanity. Their military was expanded and their economy shifted to meet the demand. It currently holds several systems, and is enacting another wave of colonization and expansion. Recent contacts with the Galactic Empire, the ESUS, and other nations have forced the Federation to shift it's foreign policy, causing severe pressures in the government, which the Archon is struggling to deal with.

The screen pauses, as a bar comes up with the same words the voice speaks at the same time.

Full Name: The Terran Federation

Short Name(s): The Federation

Government: Representative Democracy

Head of State: Archon John Valoris

Head of Government: Vice President Lisa Deimos

Legislative Body: Senate

Controlled Systems: N/A

Population: N/A

Homeworld: Terrasia

Terrasia is the home planet of the Federation, it consists of several continents. It is home to a wide array of different creatures. Terrasia's history goes back as far as about 7.6 billion years ago when the planet first formed, with the first single celled organisms appeared about 5.5 billion years ago. These simple organisms eventually began to evolve into more and more advanced creatures. A certain species of exceptional intelligence, humans or Homo Sapiens, evolved about 200,000 years ago. They eventually began to show signs of sentience and made it into space in 2045. It is the mostly heavily fortified planet in the Federation, rightly so with it's vast network of orbital defense stations, equipped with missiles, lasers, and mass drivers, numbering around fifty total.

Economy: The economy of the Federation is run by the Federal Government. Corporations are sent to establish mining worlds, farm worlds, and build proper facilities to extract the proper resources needed to sustain the Federation. A massive trade network criss-crosses the Federation, protected by Federal Fleet, with convoys of transport ships flying through the routes, the lifeblood of the nation. The Fringe Worlds are where most of the raw resources come from, supplemented by the Central Sector, which processes most of the materials and ships them to the Core Sector, where the massive factories and industries transform the refined materials in military and civilian hardware.

Government: The Terran Federation is a representative democracy similar to the United States and the Roman Republic.

The Terran Federation offers the right to vote to anyone willing to complete a two-year term of Federal Service, which includes, but is not limited to, military service. Other possible avenues to citizenship include scientific research, intelligence and logistics, albeit under military discipline and/or dangerous conditions. The Federal Constitution states that anyone, man or woman, who fully understands the oath may serve despite any physical handicaps. In fact the only barrier to enlistment is a psychologist's ruling that the would-be citizen is unable to understand the oath.

An Archon leads the nation, with a Senate which is full of former servicemen and women. The Archon has lots of powers, which aren't used often as she and the Senate usually agree on issues, and can be restrained by the Senate. However, both they and the Senate are voted in, so it still is a form of democracy.

It should be noted that Federation residents not holding the franchise are neither discriminated against, nor deprived of legal rights other than the ballot. Federation society seems to be at the same living standard as a First World country today.

Technology: The Federation's technology has both stayed the same, yet advanced far forward at the same time. They still used missiles, bullets, and nukes, along with fighters that seem to be merely pumped-up versions of the ones seen in the 24th Century. However, many advances have been made. Weapons have been developed that expanded humanity's ability to fight its enemies and survive. The most significant advances have been the invention of the flash drive, and the experimental shield the Dreadnaughts are equipped with.

Species Info: Humans or Homo Sapiens, as is their scientific name, are the one and only race in the Terran Federation. They have expanded over many worlds and are seeking to expand more. They are around 6ft tall approximately, with varying lengths. They have normal strength and endurance, which can be enhanced through certain augmentations and harsh training found in the military. They are quite smart, and are able to adapt, especially considering what they have accomplished in the time in the galaxy. Aggressive, kind, warlike, peaceful, they have many attitudes. However, they can learn and are usually favoring peace over war.

Federation Military

Branches:
-Mobile Infantry
-Federal Navy
-Federal Intelligence

The military protects the vast reaches of the Federation, ensuring the survival and continued prosperity of humanity. The Mobile Infantry, an elite, well-trained force, serves as the planetary arm of the Federation, taking planets, fighting in ground using all the weapons and skill at their disposal. The Federal Navy, serving as transports for the Mobile Infantry, are skilled as well, using all the firepower at their disposal from the mighty Titan-class carriers to the Serpent-class corvettes, all are used to protect our nation. Even the Federal Intelligence helps out, with the Psi Korps which can read the minds, even destroy them, in their search to root out all terrorists, and safeguard all of us.

Federal Navy:

Starships:
The place most troopers think of as home away from home, these immense craft are capable of "jumping" from star system to star system. Almost like small cities unto themselves, Starships house crew quarters, full medical facilities, mess halls, training decks, recreation rooms, not to mention all of the various fighters and retrieval boats docked in the hangar bays. Serves as a communications center for planetary campaigns. Has an incredible sensor array which can detect movement of other craft in neighboring solar systems. Can service targets with nukes from orbit if necessary. They are armed with powerful and well-made particle cannon and beam point defense systems. Not only that, but they have armor which is heavily combined with energy/laser refractive armor, which dissapates a lot of the laser, plasma, etc attacks of enemies, as well as some kinetic damage. They use lasers, missiles, and railguns for main weapons, anti-matter bombs and nukes for large damage and Nova Bombs for planetbusters.

Valley Forge-class corvette
http://ca.geocities.com/arnabisthebest/tv/starshiptroopers.jpg

This ships is the smallest military ship in the fleet, these ships are the ones mostly seen amongst the great fleets of the Federation, when they head to battle or to war. Small, light and weak, they don't do much damage unless en masse. However, they are good for investigating and aiding the gunboats, which patrol the Federation, as well as providing support for the fleet. With their speed and agility, they are used for mostly for raids and flanking maneuvers in wars and campaigns.

Rodger Young-class Cruiser
http://www.vfxhq.com/1997/stills/starship/mini/fleet1.gif

The workhorse of the fleet, this ship has been used in every engagement in the history of the Federation and continues to distinguish itself to this very day. It is useful for everything, from troop transport, to surgical strikes, to massive fleet actions.

Warlock-class Destroyer (http://www.shipschematics.net/b5/images/earthforce/destroyer_warlock.jpg)

Serving a similar role as the Cruiser, this ship has more guns, more firepower, more armor, and more of an independent role. It is able to carry itself in combat rather well and can do solo missions of light combat or patrol. e.

Dragon-class Battlecruiser

The first of the Navy's heavy ships, this ship can hold it's own against several enemy ships and still function. It's many laser and missile batteries can blanket space with vicious destruction in seconds. The Dragon-class served with honor and distinction in the Federation Navy for many years, until it's place as the lead ship was usurped by the massive Carrier. Still, many SICON commanders use it as their home base. Mostly used as capital ships, for planetary bombardment, and blockades.

Zeus-class Dreadnought
http://www.classic-space.com/plugins/autogallery/Gallery/BigShips/1g.jpg

These ships are slightly less powerful then a Dragon-class battlecruiser, but they are fielded in greater numbers. They are used mainly for fleet defense. Their point defense systems are greatly strengthened compared to the rest of the fleet. They are armed with the recently designed experimental Aegis shield system. Trying to make energy shields for their ships, this ships have been outfitted with them. And finally, they are Carrier escort, protecting these massive behemoths in the name of the Federation.

Eagle-class Carrier (http://wolfsshipyard.mystarship.com/Drawings/Earth/Poseidonova.png)

The current most powerful ships in the Federation Navy. Massive, powerful, bulky, a fortress, are simply a few of the descriptors for it. Deployed just after the Bug-Human War, they quickly became known for their immense power and for the fame surrounding them. One of these destroyed an entire pirate fleet by itself. They carry the main force of Mobile Infantry in any campaign, as well as providing the heaviest and most destructive support, especially for planetary bombardment, than any other ship in the Federal Navy. These ships serve as the main headquarters for SICON during any campaign.

Ship A.I's:
The Federation, in recent years, has managed to perfect technology for artificial intelligence. Every ship in the Federal Navy has an A.I., which helps to increase ship efficiency and survival in battle, as it completes commands faster than a human can and foresee situations, uploading them to a neural lace that connects them to the Captain of the ship. With that link, the Captain can speak and have entire conversations with the A.I. and give out orders in less than a millisecond. It also is made to counter-act any hacking attempts, and to reinforce the already formidable computer defenses. They have human personalities and ideas, and can be allowed to take any form, holographically, but they mostly choose to take human form.

Flash Drives:
These powerful Faster-Than-Light drives are what send the Federation around the universe. These immensely powerful drives were invented just after the Bug-Human War, around the same time as the Carrier. These drives allow a ship to tear through space and "bend" it, in the sense that Location A, where the ship is, and Location B, the destination are, become one and they instantly travel, very much like teleportation. These drives take a lot of power but the ships are designed to put lots of power, with their anti-matter reactors.

Just SW is always a bit old. If you do SW, mixing it up with other stuff (I mix with Halo and Star Trek) provides variety.
