SIC: General Mwenye Abukabar had wondered what was going on when his friend Wekesa, the Minister of Defense, had called him at 4:00 in the morning.

“Mwenye,” Wekesa had said, “Is that you?”

“Yeah, what is going on? What is so important that you had to wake me up at 4:00 AM?”

Wekesa sighed, “We’re going to war. The President called a meeting of his cabinet last night. Apparently some of our sources say something big is going on in Uaegoslavia and Wintrees’ sources agree.”

“Jesus Christ…What does Wintrees have to do with it?”

“Apparently they want to invade Uaegoslavia with us and our President agrees with them.”

“What do you think about it?”

“Well, I know we can beat Uaegoslavia, our military is twice as large as theirs and our population is ten times as big. I am not sure if I trust Wintrees, though. Everybody else does and there is no reason not to, but I don’t know. It’s probably nothing. But you should start mobilizing both the Frontline Armies along with the Reserves.”

“Okay, the 1st and 2nd Armies can both be ready in 36 hours. Though, the Reserves will take a week or two to get ready.”

“Good, the details will be sent later, but the basic plan is for your 1st Army to lead the attack while the 2nd follows to mop up any pockets of resistance and provide support. The Reserve Divisions will stay in the Federation for defense. You have the honor of leading the way, but try and keep the mobilization as quiet as possible, at least for now. We are still waiting on word for from Wintrees about when they are going to invade. You think your men can do it?”

“I know they can, thanks for the call.”

“Good luck.”

After that he had called the commander of 2nd Army and told him what was going on. The rest of the day had gone by in a blur, with Mwenye checking that every division had working equipment, enough supplies and that all soldiers were accounted for. It had gone well, except for a few minor setbacks, but the Army was ready. He knew that even without the help of Wintrees, the Federation should still crush Uaegoslavia, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Nevertheless he had his duty to the Federation and the invasion of Uaegoslavia would commence tomorrow at 5:00 AM. God have mercy on their souls, he thought, just before falling asleep.

After several days of preparation and planning, they were finally leaving. Boipelo Kobe, Commander of a Column of Cavalry Tanks in the 5th Mechanized Division, didn’t know what to think. Why were they invading a mostly desert country of only 2 million? Nevertheless, he had his duty to do. Plus he was leading the first ever Tank Battalion in the Federation Army. After seeing the success of the Tank divisions used by the Ansurian Army in their war, the Federation Army had created 6 Cavalry Tank Battalions consisting of 30 M1 Tanks each. Since these tanks could go 72 kph on roads, it was decided that these would go ahead of the rest of the army to scout and surprise the enemy. Boipelo’s unit was the spearhead of the invasion on Uaegoslavia. Their target was the capital, Niamey, which was only around 300 km from their base, Sokoto. The border, was less than 100 km and they would cross it at the border town of Birnin Konni and then head west. Speed was the key to their attack. They would bypass any enemy strongholds, which the 5th Mechanized Division, behind them, would take care of.

Boipelo had chosen to ride in the lead tanks as always and now out on the road, he could feel the adrenalin rushing through him. He looked back at the Ansurian Military observer in the tank behind him and signaled for the tank to come along side.

"We are only a couple of kilometers away from the border town of Birnin Konni."

"Do you expect much resistance there," asked the observer?

"Not really, but you still might want to watch out. If the resistance is too strong we plan on bypassing the town."

After some communication with the rest of the column, they fanned out to battle formation and went to their top speed. Boipelo wanted to catch whoever was in the town off guard.

OOC: Waiting for Uaego to respond.

At about 10:24 the small village was preparing for the annual seed sowing festival, the festival which involved sowing seeds for the wheat crop, last year was 13kg short of the target, but that was because of stormy rain

A small child played with a small telescope, and noticed something

"Ay' Paco"

"Ya?"

"What’s that?

Paco, a scrawny 15 year old was handed the old telescope

"I don't know" Adjusting the lenses "Looks like a tank...or 6...or 30"

"Meh. Probably just a nation testing its tanks

But others weren’t so casual

Fort Yasrakov,

Amingwai maybe the military command central, but it wasn't the strongest. Yasrakov had one job, watch the two nations of wintress and the federation, to make sure they didn't make any hostile military action, without the nation knowing.

"zzzzzzzz *beep* who what!?!" Syus, one of the many watching for questionable action from the bordering nation was just woken by a radar blip

........? He grabbed the telephone that linked to the commander of the fort, Ivandaw

"Ivandaw, state your purpose"

"Commander we have 60 unidentified objects moving at 72 mph to the village of Birnin Konni, action"

".... Observe the actions; send in squadrons 6, 10, and 4 to stop the objects for questioning"

Later the very same guardsmen squadrons were coming, each squad was about 20 men, armed with Ak-47, (due to the fact that Uaegoslavia was busy researching its own weapons, and AK's were easily manufactured.
They arrived at Birnin Konni, to await the tanks

Entering the village, Boipelo wasn't surprised that no one was in sight. The townspeople were probably hiding in their houses. Nevertheless he didn't want to lose the entire battalion in a foolish charge, so he sent 5 tanks ahead to go through the village.

They cautiously crept forward, though once they got to the main village square the lead tank commander shouted out, "People of Birnin Konni, the Army of the West African Federation has just liberated you from the oppressive rule of the Uaegoslavian Emperor. Once you are fully integrated within the Federation, you will have full rights and will be able to vote same as any other citizen of the Federation."

Of course, no one stirred as had been expected and the same commander radioded back to Boipelo, telling him that it looked clear. The rest of the battalion then began to creep through the village, though they knew that if there were enemy forces in the village now was probably when they would attack. Hopefully, they didn't have any anti-tank weapons. If they were ambushed, Boipelo wanted to have some way to escape, since the 5th Mechanized Division was only a couple of hours behind them and could mop up resistance.

Airspace over the Western Border
While the ground units were just beginning their invasion of Uaegoslavia, 3 squadrons (36 fighters total) had taken off from an airfield in Sokoto to escort the 12 Bombers that had taken from Kano and Sokoto. They were now somewhere over the western border and were flying low. This cost them more fuel, but the flight from Sokoto to the Uaegoslavian capital, Niamey, was short and the lower they flew the longer they could avoid enemy radar. Once they got close to Niamey they would climb higher, to try and avoid any enemy AA guns. Their targets were several industrial factories in the city, though the raid was more psychological than anything. 12 Bombers could only do so much damage, but it was hoped that hitting the enemy capital would hurt enemy morale and boost Federation morale.

Meanwhile, the 13th Mechanized Division was approaching the border town of Gaya in western Uaegoslavia, with a battalion of Cavalry Tanks leading the way. Similar attacks were under way farther to the east with 4th Mechanized Division moving towards Maradi and the 6th Mechanized Division heading towards Zinder. Slower moving Infantry Divisions were behind the Mechanized Divisions, ready to occupy the towns that the Mechanized Divisions captured. The Uaegoslavians faced ground attacks at 4 different points.

The villagers had escaped into their houses to escape the heat, but Paco and his friend went to take water from the well,

"So how was your day?"

"Fine yours"

"Great, I wonder how to folks are doing?"

"Not sure, their probably alright"

As if, Uias paco's mother, widow was hiding in her house, alarmed by the strange people and their tanks

But others were outraged

"What! These people just think they can walk over the emporer land

Sergeant Jaccoa, leader of squad 4 and for this mission 6 and 10, from a distance he did not like what he saw, 5 tanks occupied the village

"......Rico"

"Yes sir?"

"Take your group and investigate, Killias radio HQ, They need to know about this, we might be on the verge of an attempted take - over"

And so Rico and 4 other men went to the village to investigate, and Killias phoned HQ

Fort Amingway

The commander already knew something was wrong, why? Multiple command forts radioed attempted take over’s from the federation

"So the federation is trying to de - throne the emperor? Never....their army may by better armed, but in the dunes, only stealth and tactics will reign supreme"

And so the Algeria skirmish was withdrawn, the dunes will but red with blood when this was over
