Civitas Americae Navy undergoes reorganization and modernization

Civitas Americae
15-11-2005, 05:12
In its efforts to keep itself a potent fighting force, the Civitas Americae Navy has announced an ambitious reorganization and modernization program. With the exceptions of the current carriers and submarines, all battlefleet ships are being replaced. In addition, organization will no longer be based around the individual ship, which has made things very confusing, but rather around the battlegroup. Lastly, with the introduction of the Saint George-class battleship, battleships will return to the frontline of combat, rather than simply seeing action as support units.

The Navy intends on purchasing 8 Maria Leia-class, 12 Saint George-class, 36 Neu Bayern-class, 124 Neuhausburg-class, 124 Von Spee-class, 248 Störtebecker-class, and 442 Pebble-class ships over the next ten years with a total cost of $720.4 billion.

When the Rolling Airframe Missile defense system was added to Civitas Americae’s ships, the inevitable question of “Why can’t we produce an equivalent for torpedoes?” was asked. The Mark 56 was Neu Sachsen Combat Systems Inc.’s answer, and adopted by the Civitas America Navy. It is now a standard feature on all new ships.

Named in honor of Jerusalem’s (http://www.nationstates.net/50924/page=display_nation/nation=jeruselem) new baby daughter, the Maria Leia-class is designed to act as a long-range superdreadnought killer. In concert with other ships of its class or land-based bombers, it is to deliver a large missile barrage from outside of enemy range. Built by Neuhausburg Shipyards, it is classified as a Very Heavy Cruiser rather than a battleship due to its lack of heavy caliber guns.
