WARNING: Disaster may strike your country!!

Walmarts

The United States Of Walmarts president, Tom Gates, has announced a disaster has struck. A nuclear submarine patroling the waters in the north atlantic in International Territory has sunk. News Reports are coming in saying a bomb on the submarine accidently went off. Everyone on board died.

President Gates says that this could mean disaster for Internation Countries and even Walmarts. If the nuclear engines on board the Submarine under water explode, then it could shake the ground enough to cause a Man-Made earthquake.

Experts say that if an Earthqauke strikes that is more powerful than 5.0, wich experts say will happen if the Nuclear Engines explode, that it could cause Massive Tsunami's that will affect the entire world. The Tsunami's could take out 5-30% of the worlds population and as much as 5-25% of the worlds land could be under water within a few hours to days.

The Submarine is in the middle of the ocean wich means that if this does happen, countries can be warned and have 20-30 minutes to evacuate before the Tsunami's reach land.

President Gates says "this is one of the reasons why we want to become a Nuclear Free country. we have no nuclear weapons and do not plan to create or get any but our ships and submarines run on Nuclear Energy. we hope to become completly Nuclear Free within the next 10 years."

President Gates warns other countries to take caution. The millitary is already at the location of the submarine and have already begun plans to recover the Nuclear Engines. Since the Nuclear Engines are damaged and cannot be used again, Gates has ordered that they be put in a rocket and sent into space towards the sun where they can explode without danger to countries, our world and other worlds.

Nothing has happened yet so we will keep you informed as information comes in. We pray that nothing happens.

Leafanistan will personally take upon herself to rid the world of this threat. We shall send the 5th fleet out of Leafanistani Wasser to survey the situation. We will try to salvage the sub, if we can't we will deploy High Energy LASERs to destroy it. However know that a nuclear reactor is a very stable thing.

OOC: Idea is interresting, but you must put some realism to the scale of destruction. NS world is easily 100 times larger than the one we are currently sufferng in, and I don't think that explotion of one submarine would do that much damage even in this world, allthough I have nothing to support this and I am anything but an expert on this issue.

This news has shocked the environmental community within kroblexskij as the tidal wave may not affect us it does have a chance. an environmental cleanup boat can be sent if nessarcery to the affect area

OOC nice idea, if only more RPs were like this.

Becuase of the new Tsunami threat, three miles along the coast have been declared a disaster zone. The Residents of the communities there have been evacuated to neigboring same-caste communities.

This area will remain empty until such time that the threat has been neutralised. In the meantime, farming productivity has dropped 9%.

Foods are now being imported to make up for the productivity drop.

03-08-2005, 21:24
The Tannenmillian state of Deutschefranzösisch Rheinland will be evacuated along all coasts and near the coastal portions of the Rhine River. Martial law has been declared in VDFR and any person seen outside of their homes after 8 pm will be taken into custody.

Likewise, the Provincial Territories of Tannenmillian Saharistan have been evacuated along the coasts and a similar martial law is in place. The Autobahn that runs though Saharistan will be closed near the coasts, and drivers on these portions of the nationwide highway will be forced to get off of the Autobahn before crossing into Tannenmille. Portions of the Autobahn further inland will not be effected.

UPDATE: Tsunami threat is over! The millitary has recovered the nuclear engines. The engines will be thrown into space with a rocket and they will explode far away enough not to be a threat against the planet.

Although, the rocket will not be able to take the Nuclear Engines far enough for the Planet to stay out of the shockwave. The shockwave will arrive at the planet 4 minutes after the explosion.

Experts say the shockwave will not do damage to earth and the Ozone Layer will protect us from the radiation....but the shockwave may cause a few thunderstorms, and possibly very, very small Tsunami's that will not do much damage.

Lets take an unstable rocket and put something even more unstable on it.

Our Rockets are built with the latest technology in Safety. The Nuclear engines will be placed inside a 3 foot metal box. The metal box is a defense in case the rocket fails. Inside the box are shocks so if the rocket explodes and the box falls, when it hits the engines will bounce on the shocks.

When the rocket makes it to less than 10 seconds from explosion in space, automatic locks on the box will open up so the engines can explode.

The rockets are equipped with 2 safety devices. 1 safety device is the secondary rocket boosters so if the 1st boosters fail, the 2nd boosters take over immediatly.

The 2nd safety device is the parachute wich will lauch if the rocket fails so the engines will not hit the ground hard. The Rocket is being launched from the Ice Pole in the north of the planet so if all else fails, the nuclear blast will be thousands of miles away from any human being.

Our Rockets are some of the best in the world so we know this rocket will do it's job.

Got it, shoot down rocket. Also, I know one of the big countries verbally claimed the Artic, better ask for permission lest they shoot it down thinking its a enemy strike.

I am sure they won't mind. All we are doing is launching a rocket from there into space. The rocket will not fail. Infact, we are preparing to launch right now. If the rocket explodes, the metal box will protect the engines. So there is almost no chance of a Nuclear Blast.

....looks like we are about to launch in 3....2.....1.

Thar she go's. Safe liftoff. It is heading into the upper atmosphere. It is above the clouds and heading towards the ozone layer.

Ah yes.....Thar she go's into space. Nothing to it. Perfect lift off and all went as planned.

OOC: You do realize nuclear engines can't explode right? They don't have a sufficient mass of material, nor is it pure enough. The most you could get would be the equivalent of a boiler explosion.

However, if you military was stupid enough to actually use a critical mass of bomb grade material in a powerplant, then you have my sympathies.

There's also the minor detail that even if a submarine nuclear blast were capable of causing a 5.0-magnitude earthquake (which I doubt - there have been underwater tests of nuclear bombs, and they didn't cause earthquakes), this wouldn't cause a tsunami at all, let alone one that would deluge 25% of the land in the world and kill 30% of the population.

Let's not forget that the RL earth is a hell of a lot smaller than NS earth, and the tsunami this past winter (caused by a 9.3 earthquake, one of the most powerful ever recorded) killed about 115,000 people (i.e. far, far less than your damage estimates for a hypothetical earthquake one-ten-thousandth as powerful - the Richter is a logarithmic scale), and that only in a region of the world were concepts like 'early warning systems', 'sea walls', and 'building codes' border on the absolutely unknown.

Furthermore, even in RL examples of nuclear sub sinkings, like the Russian vessel Kursk a few years ago, they don't bother salvaging the entire reactor - just the fuel rods.

OOC: While at it, I'll point out that the probability of a nuclear reactor actually exploding (NB. Chernobyl did not explode) is so minimal it would require an act of god to make it happen. Then there's the fact that a factor five earthqake has a total energy (http://www.seismo.unr.edu/ftp/pub/louie/class/100/magnitude.html) of around 32 kilotons. As Siri said, nuclear weapons tests in this range have been carried out without producing tsunamis, mega or otherwise. Operation Wigwam, a US underwater test, had an output of 30 kilotons.

Furthermore, a nuclear reactor exploding at any worthwhile distance into space would do diddly to the earth. The only nuclear reactor that seriously affects you is the big one you see daily, exploding many times the energy of the entire world's nuclear arsenal every second.
