It is becoming clear that the situation in the Middle East is deteriorating at an alarming rate. From coups to invasions to troop movements, the Middle East is witnessing a violent period in its history of instability and bloodshed. This can no longer be ignored. Greenmanbry (IDDG) has called on several of its allies to begin a series of military exercises to assess the might of our armies, navies, and air forces should we be dragged into military confrontation in this turbulent region. Already, the IDDG's Navy has been deployed to the Red Sea. Although the specifics of these exercises will be determined at a later stage, when our allies respond to this call, nations can expect a massive military presence in the Sudan, its coast, and the entire Red Sea. We will try our best not to hinder international trade, but any threats to the IDDG's Armed Forces will be ultimately dealt with in a swift manner.

As for nations that choose to participate in this endeavor, you are welcome to initiate talks with the IDDG's Department of Defense as to the number of troops, and composition of forces, that you plan to send for these exercises. All forces must be mobilized to Greenmanbry before these exercises are initiated for briefing and orientation.

Lord Maybury was walking in his office, his footsteps treading lightly on the wooden floor. The newly-constructed Ministry of Defense was a collosal building indeed and, already, Greenmanbry's forces have seen multiple mobilizations that were taking thier toll on the Departmental budgets allocated to him by the Ministry of Finance. That, coupled with the entire re-integration and re-structuring of the IDDG's Armed Forces, meant that Greenmanbry won't be able to support its operational budgets for the next two years, unless the current account balance improves, that is.

He watched the fifty inch plasma screen in front of him. The status of Greenmanbry's armed forces was displayed.

He fell back into his chair. Damn.. he thought. "Yes," he said, as he got through to his secretary, "I want a meeting with Easton, Langley, and every Supreme Admiral and Army Marshall you can get hold of."

Maybury walked into the conference room after adjusting his tie and taking a deep breath. The commotion in the room subsided, and everyone looked at him. In the back, with a glass of wine in his hand, was Lord Easton, Commander of the Navy. He was chatting with Lord Langley, Commander of the Air Force. On the sofas and armchairs were Army Marshalls, the highest honorary ranking bestowed on IDDG Army Generals. Supreme Admirals were also present in thier gleaming uniforms.

"Men," Maybury said as he slowly moved to his chair at the head of the table, "A problem of massive proportions is brewing for the IDDG's armed forces." He paused for dramatic effect, "The Island of Rose, whom we joined in a crusade to pacify China, thanks to your advice," his piercing eyes caught those of Army Marshall Smyth's and Lord Langley's, "is taking a heavy toll on our military. The base at the Maldives, dormant for too long, responded crudely to our calls for rapid-deployment, in a manner unbefitting of the IDDG Marines.

"Our soldiers are wiping the floor with the Chinese, but there has been some loss of material, and probably men.

"The situation in the Middle East is not getting any better. The bastard leaders who refer to themselves as politicians are not willing to subdue tensions or announce war and get the whole affair over with."

Chuckles were heard throughout the conference room.

"Lord Edgar has given me permission to mobilize or recall any forces in the Middle East's theatre of operations. BUT," he almost shouted, "I am not done with The Island of Rose." Audible sighs were heard from the Army Marshalls.

"Yes, their forces, which already control a huge amount of land, cannot cope with China. They have transferred sovereignity over Wake Island in the Pacific and neighboring Algeria to... Hamptonshire."

Although some generals were relieved, others became tense. Hamptonshire had always enjoyed strong support from the military, even in the days of Byrnashty, but they also had some vocal critics.

"Yes... Hamptonshire. They have also decided to give away Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand," a wry smile took the place of his earlier frown, "Guess to whom?"

Silence filled the room.

"To us..." Maybury's voice was a whisper now.

"The political leadership is delighted, expectedly. But guess who has to mobilize to Southeast Asia, set up bases, police the shit-holes, and protect them from neighboring Hogsweat?"

Many faces were frowning now. Some started muttering and cursing, others complained loudly.

"Shut up and Listen." The room quieted down again, "We have four fleets in the Red Sea, and we are using NONE of them right now. Leave one near Yemen's shores. Deploy the other three to Southeast Asia. I want the eleventh army, and a large portion of Greenmanbry's air power to be situation there as well. It is a turbulent region. If we fail to govern it, we lose both the land and our reputation. If we succeed, then, along with our base in the Maldives, we will have a chokehold on the Indian Ocean. We will rule the Ocean, gentlemen. This mission is of utmost importance. It will be peaceful, just like the Abbasid transfer of power in Lebanon to Lord Easton. The countries were stable under Rosian rule. They will remain stable under Greenmanbry's rule. Got it, people?"

Faint "Yessir"s were heard in the conference room.

"Well then, get on it. And start building large bases. I have a feeling we'll need them at some point in the future. Langley, You have 4000 fighters in the Sudan. We're not using any. Consider mothballing a few of them, or sell them.. we will need the money.

"Easton, you wasted two fucking trillion dollars on fourteen ships and less than two-dozen docks! No more shiny things for you! Tell the battlegroup in Lebanon to hibernate. Same with any re-fits being undertaken. And Army, we don't need fourty-thousand bloody tanks. Dump a few thousand in the Sahara. We'll try to absorb them once we stand on our feet again.

"People, do NOT count on money from the government. They're investing in Lebanon, and rebuilding the trillion-dollar worth of damage in Port Blessed and Al-Salaam. We have around ten trillion dollars worth of budget. Use it wisely. Be frugal for a change! Now get on it!"

Generals filed out of the room, and so did Easton and Langley. Maybury was the last to leave. He drank a glass of water, looked at the ceiling, took a deep breath, and went back to his office.

Admiral Neitsvy watched from his headquarters at Port Blessed as the two IDDG naval fleets made their way south towards the Bab-Al-Mandeb strait. The sight of the ships against the setting sun was awesome. Two hundred ships were gracefully making their way towards Greenmanbry's newly-acquired Southeast Asian territories.

He knew that, further south, in the Arabian Sea, another one of these huge fleets was makings its way through the Indian Ocean towards Thailand.

He then changed the direction of his gaze towards his own Port. Hundreds of tanks, along with many other cars, were moving slowly along the many piers, taking position to get into the accepting transports. Thousands of soldiers stood around, wearing their combat gear, backpacks full of equipment. They were also waiting for a signal to board the transports. Neitsvy nodded approvingly at the sight of the large military display. A hundred kilometers north, a plethora of planes were also being boarded by IDDG Army units. They were heading for the same destination as these units, though they will reach it faster.

In two hours or so, after the units are loaded and ready for their long journey, they will be accompanied by a destroyer to the location of the two fleets, which would be somewhere in the Arabian Sea. They will continue non-stop to the Maldives, restock their supplies in Greenmanbry's base there, and start their perilous journey through the Bay of Bengal.

Hopefully, by then, a few temporary bases and headquarters would have been set up by the engineering corps of the 11th Army, whose units were on the aerial transports set to depart for Southeast Asia at a moment's notice.
