-Official Ratheian Government Response-

We have been members of the United Nations for some time, and have been proud to stand side by side with the many others that have taken this oppourtunity.

Therefore it grieves us to leave this organization that has done so many good things for this turbulent world.

The United Nations has recently taken to defining Moral Values and Decency for members nations, and in light of this new resolution which seeks to totally redefine the definition of marriage as Ratheia knows it we have decided to finally take our leave of the United Nations until this resolution is repealed.

We seek to make the world a better place, but the UN has no right to make such decisions for member nations. Our Government is in our hands.

Resignation will take place within the next 2 days.

As is the case in the real UN, member states are suggested to bring their naional laws and policies up to line with approved UN resolutions. Again many counries say they will do this and yet they don't the UN as in the case of nationstates does not (and if it does should not) have the power to force the implementation of approved resolutions. Unless of course more powerful members force you with UN backing. If it is the case that UN resolutions on nationstates are inforced then this is a farce. We are expected to adhere to UN rules such as proposing 'proper' UN resolutions, then the PTB of nationstates should do the same. I won't be resigning form the UN as I believe in its work. If a law is forced into my country then my judical system will ignore it and not implement it.
If Bush can do it , so can we!
