Attempted coup in Drabikstan fails
By DRABIKSTAN SOCIALIST NEWS
Kibardograd - The government today announced an attempted military coup against Drabikstan's Revolutionary Socialist government had been thwarted, with the instigators being captured by the secret police. Although details are still scarce, it is believed the coup plotters were planning to seize the Presidential Palance and force President Xer Kibard to resign.
It is not known how widely the military was involved in the conspiracy to overthrow the government. However, President Kibard has ordered all top military officials to resign and has handed command of the armed forces over to the Elite Presidential Forces. The President's loyal Elite Presidential Guard now controls all ground and air forces.
The attempted coup was believed to have been planned by nationalist elements within the military, who were angered by President Kibard's decision to allow the regions of Naxivan and Dnever independence from Drabikstan. Kibard's government has been labelled a dictatorship by the UN in the past, although there has been an improvement in the areas of human rights and political freedoms.
