Partition and occupation of Socialist Cockroaches

Roach-Busters
21-08-2004, 01:21
Months ago, the nation known as Socialist Cockroaches unexpectedly declared an unjust and unprovoked war on the Republic of Roach-Busters. A horrific bloodbath ensued, with no end in sight, as casualties on both sides mounted to staggering proportions. Both sides faced cataclysmic and near-total destruction. The defeat of RB was imminent. Then, thanks to the intervention of Jordaxia, The Metroids, Crimson blades, The Dark Nexus, and Sarzonia, Socialist Cockroaches was quickly outnumbered, out-manned, out-gunned, and squashed flat (pardon the pun). War crimes trials commenced, and many of the top members of the SC government and military were imprisoned or executed. Since then, a considerable number of nations have deployed peace-keeping troops, and law and order has prevailed. What does this have to do with you, you ask? Because Socialist Cockroaches has no government- and to avert the threat of a new totalitarian dictatorship that may threaten the world- President J.L. of the Federal Republic of Roach-Busters proposes the partition of SC into various sectors, each to be occupied (temporarily or permanently, depending on the occupyer's preference). Sectors have been reserved for the following nations: RB, Jordaxia, The Metroids, Crimson blades, The Dark Nexus, and last but definitely not least, Sarzonia (I listed them in the order they joined the war). That makes six sectors. More than 50% of the nation, however, remains unoccupied. Would anybody be interested in acquiring a sector of their own (to occupy temporarily, or else to make into a colony)?

Yes, set up basic ground rules, ya know, if attacking is legal-illegal, just make basic rules and a map.

The rest will develop itself...

Players are permitted- hell, encouraged- to attack each other and use whatever dirty tricks they'd like to try to 'acquire' as much territory as possible (except the reserved territory, which will be split between the rest of the allies from the war).

The Rosian 3rd Infantry Division and the 55th Fleet had already arrived in the new terrotory. The Fleet has already begun patrols of the new land, the army rooting out criminals. They were under Rosian Martial Law, until a new government could be set up anyway. The only thing that would remain the same is the fact is that they would stay socialist. The land was named... New Red.

Map updated. Here's a guide to the sectors (first come, first served; once they're all taken [you can only take one at a time], you'll have to fight for more):

Sector A- Small, but very rich in copper

Sector B- Fairly large, with open fields; perfect for military bases

Sector C- Geologically rich in silver, but has dozens of active volcanoes; explore at your own risk!

Sector D- Rich in copper; however, many diseases are endemic there

Sector E- Close to a sea that is rich in oil; however, it is a small sector surrounded by 3 others, thus, a large military presence is recommended

Sector F- Mostly cities; more people to tax, more money to make, right? ;)

Sector G- Very large territory; however, no resources, people, or anything of value, unless you love lots of land

Sector H- Mostly jungle; full of natives; if you're into the slave trade (I'm not and I hope you're not, but if you are), there are plenty of able-bodied natives

Sector I- Same as F

Sector J- Mostly desert; perfect for testing nukes or building military bases

Sector K- Very rich in gold; however, turbulent weather makes it almost inaccessible

All sectors but A, C, D, G, and K have at least some people. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Greetings Roach Busters.

In response to your grateful offer, we Crimson Blades would like to claim "Sector H". 18 Carrier squadrons have been ordered to surround the penninsula and ensure the safe arrival of Transport Aircraft and Cargo vessels. Airstrips will be built upon arrival of the Carrier groups. A large Port will then be erected along with a government controled base city, which will house the first official Bladiean occupents of the sector. A perimiter of battle squads along with bases for each, will be placed along the border between Sector G, and the Roach-Busters sector in increments of 5 miles between. To ensure the safty of these battle groups, an occupying military force of 500,000 will be placed in the sector and along the borders. No traffic originating in any other sector will be allowed acsess to the Bladiean Sector. Routine patrols by Bladiean Fighters and Scout aircraft are to be expected.

Further information concerning the Occupation of Sector H will be released as approved my President Kenneth E. Howitzer.

OOC: I was mostly curious because Hadula is soon becoming desperate for land. While the population desperately seeks to keep the lush rain forests alive, it isn't practical. This is why we have expression interest in two land grab scenarios. Unfortuantely, because of the revolution within Hadula, we cannot officially claim a part of this country as our own for a while.

As you can see, the border lines were not hard to draw. The heavily volcanic areas around the lush central grasslands are dangerous but extremely rich in silver. They also provide a natural defencive barrier making this an extremely difficult area to invade. Praetonian forces are expected to arrive with a few days, at which time they will fully surround the area with defencive surveilance drones and later fortresses. Praetonia is here to stay.

The massive colonial fleet made landfall on the 12th September 2005. The troops were the first out. They immediately disembarked, some scouting out the terrain, the others began the unloading of the masses of supplies. The flat pack airpot was one of the first things to be unpacked. Once shelters were out and a granary was constructed from flatpack materials to store the contingent's food, the airport construction began.

Within four weeks of land fall all of the colonists and troops were disembarked, living in pre-fab shelters and spending the day constructing and unpacking, while the airport was finished by the troops. A security perimetre was established but as yet almost no Socialist Cockroaches were spotted. The area they were in was plains, but not the main central plains, which is where roaches were likely to be found.

Planes began shipping in more food and agricultural equipment. There would be no harvest this year but the plan was to get the colony self-sustaining by the next. Within the coming months construction on proper houses would begin, leaving a large central area empty for the incoming administrative circle. Currently all that stood therein was a Praetonian flag, placed in the direct centre, which towered above the working colonists and their houses. It could be seen for miles around, and when the colonists looked at it, they knew they were at home.

OOC: Apologies. That was meant for Doomingsland.

Open Ocean, 100 nm North of Socialist Cockroaches

The GN Commonwealth plowed the warm waves, sunlight cascading over her superstructure, and forming pools on the deck. Admiral Grashal was out pacing, wondering for the thousandth time why CC had seen it fit. Fit for an Assault Fleet to sail for an unknown land. Fit for his flagship, the first ever Commonwealth Class, to lead such an expedition. An expedition that included escorting a slow-crawling convoy of transports. He shook his head. At least the risk of attack was low. But I'd rather have been quelling the Sarzonian mutiny, he thought. That operation was long over, and the commander, Vice Admiral Nokumi recieved a commendation, while he was out here. Evidently, CC had thought there might be trouble.

An ensign ducked under the mess door and strode up to Grashal. "Admiral, the recon UAVs have spotted land. The watch requests you head up to the bridge immediately." With that, he turned to lead the way. The fleet had sailed for almost a week, and he knew most of the settlers had become restless. Grashal pushed open the double doors and walked into Operational Command. "Report!"

The bridge officer sautered up. "Sir, the recon photos have arrived, and the Vizons have located several possible landfalls." He produced a folder, and drew out several sheets of paper. "Here, we have a plenty of shelter, an abundance of flat, open ground, and what seems to be excellent soil." The officer paused. "However, a harbor is lacking, and..." Grashal waved it by. "We must have a good berth," he firmly stated. "Very well, sir. Then this site might be of interest. It has one of the best harbors we've seen so far, but the ground is marshy and low, there are..." The Admiral interrupted, "Pass."

The bridge officer was getting desperate. "Finally, we have this site. It is located on the shores of a wide bay, deep enough for large-ocean going vessels. The shore is covered with a rich topsoil, but several areas have a rock base. You can see it here, and here. There's fresh water, and good open land in general, with a small forest nearby." Grashal picked up one of the images. "It sounds perfect, but what's this group of dark blocks?" He jabbed a finger at the photo. "Well, it appears the area's already occupied, sir," the officer interjected. "By remnents of the SC population." he added. An long silence followed. "Is there anywhere else?" queried the Admiral. "No sir, that's the last site."

"Very well, we'll just have to make do. Once we make landfall, I want a contingent of Marines to enter the village. Offer them a choice, either we'll buy the land, and they leave, or they will join us. Got that?" he faced the officer. "Yes sir." He turned to leave. "And you'll be leading that group."

Terropolis, Terrias

It has been three years since the founding of the first settlement in the new colony, now christened Terrias. That cool fall day, the shore delegation had impressed upon the locals a sense of urgency, and so the rements of the SC population was drafted into the colonist's ranks. The party now numbered over 10,000 swelled by the pouring in of more citizens of the former SC. The winter was spent in pre-fab shelters, and in the spring, the site of a new town was erected atop the old village. The broad streets were marked and cleared, while a central area was left clear except for the beginnings of the adminstrative buildings. Terropolis was born.

As the year wore on, tents were replaced by solid housing, streets were paved with concrete, and a school begun. On the waterfront, a harbor was taking shape, the dock warehouses stocked full of materials brought over from Granzi on a weekly basis. The plains west of the city were turned over, out of the furrows sprouting grains and produce. Basic municipal services were still lacking, though a sewer system was started that fall. The naval battlegroup left in early September, though a few ships were always seen in the bay. By first snowfall, the once empty land was filled with glowing light, shining from the windows of houses.

The second year, private corporate recruiting led to a land rush in the new territories. A total of 8 more trips were made from Granzi, each one bringing several thousand more settlers. Homesteads sprouted up in the interior, fueled by a need for more land as the colonist pushed further away from Terropolis. The towns of Port Alliance and Marselles were founded elsewhere on the coast, creating a stronger need for central government. The first meeting of a rudimentary Parliament was held in the completed Capital Hall located at the city center of Terropolis.

Once the population of Terrias reached an estimated 50,000, the provisions for an overseas territory were drafted. Approved by a majority of eligible voter, on August 22, Terrias sent 2 representatives to Granzi City. It was also the first year the Department of Commerce reported a net profit in exports, though the actual figure might still be in the negative. Prospectors discovered a large lode of tungsten, along with smaller deposits of silver and nickel. A small mining industry sprung up along the foothills. Fishing also grew, the waters of the coast yielding an abundance of fish and seafood.

The third year saw the construction of a highway system begin, followed by the opening of commercial harbors, and a small airport at Terropolis. A building spree took hold in the larger cities, leading to the first skyscraper (above 30 stories) in the capital. The census recorded 95,000 individuals residing in Terrias, with the expectation of a triple-fold within the next 4-5 years.

The first of the colonists landed at the seaport to the south of the Sarzonian colonial territory. Governor General Howard Crow was pleased when he noticed that the colony's nearest neighbours were colonists from two of Sarzonia's closest allies.

"We have as neighbors settlers from Granzi and colonists from Praetonia," Crow said. "That pleases us to no end."

Crow announced that Parliament passed a bill naming the colony Dyerhull and once the colonists established themselves in various cities, they would be free to govern themselves for the most part. In addition, the colony would be allowed to send six delegates and two Senators to Parliament for a voice in the mainland.

The only things the colony wouldn't be able to do on its own would be to wage an offensive war, coin their own currency, and establish military alliances. In the event of an attack, Dyerhull could mobilize to defend themselves. Dyerhull would still need to have other actions formally approved by Parliament, but the consensus in Woodstock was to allow the colony to do anything that was within reason on its own.

"Our eye is toward eventual independence for Dyerhull," House Speaker Josh Williams said. "The same held true for Branwyn, but they want their independence now."

Williams wouldn't specify a timetable by when the colony would receive its full independence, but other sources in Parliament suggested that a 10 year plan was in place.

Far away from the discussion about independence, the Dyerhullian colonists had more important matters on their hands. Work crews busied themselves with construction of a port city that was to serve as the main satellite yard of the Portland Iron Works. The city would be known as Windham. Other colonists spread out throughout the land and constructed four more port cities. They would also be used by the Portland Iron Works to augment the shipyards already being used on the mainland.

"For our daily report on the colony, here is field reporter Donald Smith. Don?"

"Good evening Lori. A comprehensive transportation system is underway, to be supplemented by a high-speed rail network. Governor Alfred made a comment today, saying he invisioned a highly modern nation, with top-of-the-line technological materials that could not be easily implemented in established societies. "What we have here is a golden opportunity. It is with the greatest importance that we take it and use it to our benefit."

A QwikPoll conducted on the local level in Terropolis found that 67% of Terrians polled supported such an initiative, while 33% did not. There is a margin of error of + or - 8%. Terrias is expanding at rapid rates, already reaching the boundries of the territory in several areas. Of course, the population is regularly supplemented by an influx of Granzians, having been 9 convoys from the mainland this year already. The last census reported a growth rate of 326% per 5 years, if the current trend is to keep at the same level. This is Donald Smith, reporting from Terropolis, Terrias. Now, back to you Lori."

"Thank you, Don. In other domestic news today, the fledgling town on the shore of the great interior lake now has a name. By a near unanimous gesture, the occupants have decided to bestow the name of Sarzo City on the metro area. Earlier this year, an expedition has set out from Port Alliance, with the hopes of establishing a new settlement further inland. They had penetrated the Dobruk Mountains via Vista Pass, marking the first instance of a large party crossing the divide. So far, it has been enormously successful, and more trips have been made, with tales of rich soil luring residents."

"And now on to the weather..."

Segmentum Praetonialis, Three Year Report

Year 1: Prima Urbes has been succesfully completed. Prefabricated buildings have been replaced and large roads have been constructed on expectation of future traffic. Over 100,000 Praetonians currently live in Segmentum Praetonialis. The colony is losing money but not at any great rate. Port facilities have been constructed for moderate merchant traffic and the garrisoned 3rd Destroyer Squadron and newly arrived 7th Escort Carrier Group. Two military bases have been constructed, Prima Custodes and Segmentum Milites, one on each end with the Eastern border. The border with Sarzonian territory is yet to be foritified and there seems little need for such fortification. These hold the 1st and 2nd Colonial Guard Divisions, whilst the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Colonial Militia Divisions are currently stationed in Prima Urbes.

Year 2: Two cities have been constructed, Secondo Urbes and Segmentum Navuum. Total colonial size has grown to 500,000 citizens. Four small towns of Socialist Cockroaches have been found and integrated into the Praetonian community. Unfortunately they have developed into a criminal lower class and live in slums around each city. Schemes are being put into action to attempt to combat this. The Julianus Line (named after the late Prime Minister Tiberius Julianus) as begun. This will foritify the entire Eastern Border with earthworks, bunkers, pillboxes and emplaced anti-air, anti-tank and anti-personel weaponary. A substantial mine field will be laid, along with barbed wire and tank traps punctuated by automated machinegun and surveillance drones. This will cost up to $60bn. The airport at Prima Urbes has now been expanded to a full freight and transport international airport. Segmentum Praetonialis is now accepting immigrants from Praetonia's allies, and this is expected to improve immigration figures.

Year 3: Significant progress has been made on the Julianus Line. Sections have been begun at either end and are moving to meet each other. The Line is expected to be finished by Year 6. Total Colonial population has increased to 1,800,000 and a further city, Segmentum Imperialis, has been completed. A high speed railway network has been build under the motorways. It is also designed to act as a nuclear bunker in the event of an attack. It's air intakes are NBC filtered and can be shut off to allow an air replishment system to be activated. The tunnel is lit and contains bunk and storage rooms along it's entire length. Further Divisions of Colonial Militia have been raised, bringing the current total to 10.

Enclosed is a map of Segmentum Praetonialis as it is currently known:

IC: Hybalt Shipyards had shown a great deal of interest in the new territory. That October, a representative was flown in from Granzi City. Flight D-163 landed with a thud on the unyielding concrete. The passengers filed out. Heels tapping softly on the polished floors, she had made her way down the concourse. Gripping a small black briefcase in one hand, the other one clasping a suitcase, Deloras Swift (familiar name?) strode out of Terropolis International Airport. She hailed a taxi, and stepped in. "Capitol Hall, please," and shut the door.

Approximately half an hour later, she found herself standing in front of the white marble building. Swift easily walked up the steps and into the wide foyer. The receptionist on duty saw a slim lady, pulling a suitcase enter. "Hello. How may I help you today?" Deloras looked down over her sunglasses. "Good afternoon. I'm here as a representative of Hybalt Defense Industries. I have an appointment at two o'clock with the Governor. Conference Room A-8. Name is Deloras Swift."

The receptionist turned to her keyboard and rapidly typed in several words. Tracing a finger down the display, she stopped halfway down. "Ah, here it is. Conference Room A-8 is right down your left, the third door on your right. The Governor and his staff are waiting for you. Have a nice day." Nodding her thanks, Deloras turned on her heel and treaded down the coriddor. Pausing at the handle, she turned the doorknob and walked in. "Good evening gentlemen, my name is Deloras Swift..."

The Iron Concordiat of Wirraway

General Albus, recently promoted and fresh from colonizing the ruined state of Antebellum South, stood on the bridge of the Wasp Class II amphibous assault carrier he was using as his Flagship. Out in the distance he could see a thin strip a white sand beach, "So this is it, its look to be in a little better shape than the South was when we first came in, any hostiles in there,?" he gestured vagualy into plains that strethced on for miles past the beach. His loyal assistent Major Jefferey replied, "well according to our mission orders there is no need to pacify the area, all we have to do is set up camp and protect the colonists, can you believe they do this to this regular army units, I mean were not frigging baby-sitters were soldiers for god-sakes."

As the colonization fleet moved steadily closer to the mainland a conversation was taking place on baord one the transport craft in the back of the fleet.

"We've got more mining equipment here than we know what to do with, obviously this is a very high priority assignment," said Bob Hawes, a mining Foreman contracted out by the Wirrawayan Government,

" well you won't be using any of it without me, there are diseases out there you've never even heard off, and most likely wouldn't want ot catch, unless, that is, you enjoy vomitng your intestines out," replied Dr.Harcourt, an epidemiologist, and leader of the medical team which was sent along with the colonists to wipe out the rampant disease in their area of colonization. They both pasued and looked out the porthole window, marvelling as the small landing craft disgorged from the assault carriers and landed on the beach of Wirraway's newest colony.

The flat decked hovercraft transports deployed their cranes which dropped the hovercrafts into the water. The fans began to spin and the landing craft rocketed towards shore, carrying 25,000 troops in M2-A3 IFVs and 300 M1-A2 tanks.

NEWS FLASH
This is Terrias National Broadcasting Network!

Transportation System Finished

The first comprehensive transportation network saw construction completed today, and the final stretch of railway through Vista Pass opened. Governor Franklin Davis was on hand for the opening ceremony at Twin Pass City Hall, calling the network "a promise fulfilled to all Terrians," and promoting it as a "channel through which people and goods will move smoothly and efficiently." Also attending the event was Johannas Stuttgart, Finance Minister of Granzi.

Officially named the Interterritorial Transportation System of Terrias (ITST), it is composed of triple-lane highways and high-speed rail access connecting the major cities. Begun almost a decade ago, by the fisrt Governor of Terrias, ITST has cost almost $650 billion in public taxes and fees. Most notable incidents include a large protest several years ago, in which activists ripped up track and attacked workers. However, in recent months as the deadline draws near, public opinion has tipped in favor of the long-standing project.

After discussing matters with Governor General Howard Crow and President Mike Sarzo, Parliament authorized Dyerhull to double their colonial milita within the next year. An additional 25,000 troops would be mobilized by being given incentives such as increased salaries and more generous benefits.

"In the eventual march toward independence, Dyerhull will need to be able to defend its own territory," Sarzo said in a statement delivered from the press room at the Gray House. "We are working with the colonial government toward a larger and better colonial milita, and we are working toward improving training methods for officers and for the enlisted ranks."

The Dyerhullian adjutant general, Major General Barry Santos, said that the number of Sarzonian army troops in the colony would also double, to 60,000 in the same time.

"We will be learning from the regular army," Santos said. "Once our forces are well-established, we'll be working with our governments to ensure that Dyerhull's transition to independence is a smooth one."

Navy Chief John Newman also announced that three squadrons of 30 ships each would dispatch on the way to Dyerhull to support the two squadrons already there.

"We plan to have a fleet established for the Dyerhullians to be able to defend their home waters more readily than we can from Sarzonia," Newman said. "Once independence is established, we can help to ensure that they will be able to defend their interests on the high seas."

Segmentum Praetonialis 3 Year Report

Year 4: Permanent Basing Facilities have been completed for the 3rd Destroyer Squadron and 4th Escort Carrier Group. Both have been turned over to the Colonial Defence Forces and replacement squadrons have been completed by Imperial Praetonian Shipyards. The 4th Imperial Colonial Fleet is en route (similar composition to an Imperial Fleet) to Segmentum Praetonialis after construction was completed in the IPS yards in Neo-Praetonia. Basing is under construction. Total Colonial Population is now 2,400,000 and the Colonial Militia has been expanded to 12 divisions (264,000 men). Work is proceeding well on the Julianus Line. The Roachian slums have shrunk and many have integrated well into Praetonian society, however several riots have been reported in the slums which had to be put down by the Imperial Colonial Police using tear gas and rubber bullets.

Year 5: Another city (Aquae Thermis) has been founded in the mountains to the West of the main colony. Significant deposits of silver have been found in the area and mines are in the process of being constructed. Also under construction is a Geo-Thermal Power Complex which will be able to bring cheap, clean and plentiful electricity to the colony. Progress on the Julianus Line has reach a peak. The underground tunnel and bunker network is complete although the trenchworks and frontal defences are yet to be installed along much of the line. A small frontier garrison has been established along the border with Dyerhull. This consists mainly of an electric fence and small garrison posts to prevent criminals attempting to escape into Praetonian Land to escape or delay prosecution. Further riots reported in the now growing Roachian slums due to the discovery of several more Roachian settlements.

Year 6: Colonial Population is now 5,200,000 people. A further two cities have been completed similar to Aquae Thermis to the North of the colony - Urbes Julianum and Urbes Astrates. The Colonial Militia has been expanded to 15 Divisions (330,000 troops) and progress on the Julianus Line goes well. Riots are increasing in the Roachian slums, and the Imperial Colonial Police have been envolved in rubber bullet vs petrol bomb firefirghts lasting several days in some instances. The Colonial Administration is considering calling in the army to assist.

Attached is a map of Segmentum Imperialis after Year 6:
