Urgent assistance required. Nuclear Crisis

03-03-2004, 16:04
Three days ago a minor alarm went off at our Nuclear power station and an investigation team was dispatched to investigate. It turned out it was a small fire in number three stack. Since then it has grown in size and it has becomme apparent that we have lost all controll the fire has spread across ten stacks and the chance of avoiding a nuclear incident is very small. Since dawn yesterday radiation inside the complex was been rising, and our top Nuclear experts are either dead or dieing.

It has become apparent we do not have the ability nor the know how to contain the situtation and so we require international aid to help. It is extremely likely an explosion will ocur, so we have begun a major evacuation attempt. Currently we require experts to watch the Fire control teams progress over our security cameras, and direct them. We also request that Supplys be prepared to be sent out should the worst happen. It is unlikely the evacuation will be half complete before the reactors explode.

I will send a team of nuclear scientists to assist you in this matter. We have to get this situation under control or the area around the power plant is going to become a wasteland.

With your permission, the Federation would like to station one of our strategic bombers in a safe orbit near the power station. If a meltdown becomes unavoidable, the bomber can release its payload of plasma-yield missiles to vaporize the site before a nuclear explosion occurs.

King James V wishes to offer assistance to your nation in evacuating people near the power plant. If you grant permission, We can have large numbers of heavy transport VTOLs in position inside of six hours to assist in the process.

'Huh!' The leaders of Slimdaddies smugly think to themselves. Those pesky Edenites have cut corner on their nuclear program and this is the result. The nation of Slimdaddies like to pride themselves on their nuclear free credentials and like to think they are somehow superior to those nuclear socities. As a result they have no technical know how to donate, but will kindly accept a limited amout of refugees from the stricken area.

The Nuclear reactors themselves are situated 500 meters underground at a depth which we felt was sufficent to stop any nuclear explosions from affecting the surface. Howewver Radiation levels on the surface have already reached twice the safe level and are accelerating upwards. Our fire fighters in the facility itself have been cut off by a wall of fire which is blocking their only exit. We are desperately trying to save them, although in half an hour the radiation levels will increase beyond the level the suits were designed to stop, and they will be dead. Attempts to seal the complex from fresh oxygen has failed, and the blast doors controls have fused rendering them inoperable.

We have managed to evacuate 30% of the population from the surrounding areas. Parliment has left for its Nuclear bunker, although the Prime Minister feels this is his fault and will not leave the capital untill he is certain it is empty.

Our experts say it isa hopeless and that at best we have a day untill the reactors reach critical. All control of the reactors have been lost, and the uranium is operating at 5,000% of its normal capacity. Heat inside the complex has reached 150 degrees C.

Due to the complexs depth we fear your missiles will have no effect over the area.

Our Prime Minister does not want any other countries personel in the area, so we thank you for your offer but have to decline it, King James V, however the warhammer Syndicates offer we will accept. Command of the emergency units has been routed through the Navies Flagship Thunder Child, and we have sent a coded position co-ordinates to your nation.

Dictator Anderson sent a message to the Prime Minister.

Dear Prime Minister of Fairweather Eden,

This is an incident of the utmost urgency! I suppose I have no time to ramble on, so to the point. I can send in a number of transport helicopters to assist in evacuation of the areas around power plant. If necessary, I can also bring refugees to Gurian. Respond soon!

Signed,
Christopher Anderson
Benevolent Dictator of Gurian

If you provide schematics of the facility, we can most likely target our missiles to travel through weak points in the ventilation structure to reach an adequate detonation depth.

Our personnel would, without fail, have flown repeatedly into the area, but we fully appreciate your concern for their well being. A donation drive amongst the population has been organised, and it is expected that aid shipments can be flown into your country starting the same day as the indcident, to help deal with refugees and wounded. One of the armies oldest existing units to face combat, the 3rd Medical (NBC) Corps, has been placed on alert to help deal with the aftermath of the meltdown, if it cannot be prevented by other means.

Hazatak will send 10 nuclear technicians to help solving the problem on the nuclear station. Keep us informed about them, our country is very small and we canĀ“t lose such competent experts.

the great people of the united socialist states of merkwood sends its regards to all who have lost lives already due to this incedent and we would like to send help but it would go against our countrys act of 1991 the "nukes on hold" thyis means out diplomats cannot interven in any countrys actions involving handling of nuclear materials or radioactive substansis

we deeply regret not being able to help in ur troubles

Further investigation into this matter has yield several alarm conclusions. Little under an hour ago Police arrested 5 suspected terrorist members who boasted that their group was responsible for starting the fire in the reactors. They have also admitted that further terrorist actions across the globe were set to take place very soon.

It has become apparent that several of the people working on the reactors were employed by the terrorist organisation, and for some inexplitical reason the essential security checks were neglected.

We managed to evacuate our firefighters and have sealed the complex. Their is little that can now be done but wait for the inevitable. As for weak points in the ventillation system there are none. It was specificaly designed to stop such an act.

Evacuation is now at 45% of the population within the estimated balst zone.

OOC: You do realize that putting them that deep means you would have severe ventilation and cooling problems for the reactors, not to mention heating due to geothermals, right?

The National Atomic Energy Department met and decided to send atomic scientists and equipment. If the nuclear material is not surrounded by fire, we can remove it.

OOC: You do realize that putting them that deep means you would have severe ventilation and cooling problems for the reactors, not to mention heating due to geothermals, right?

OOC: oops. I changed it so its slightly less, still by my calculations its going to be about 500 degrees C with no cooling. One reactors energy output is required to keep the facility working, so most of that will go to cooling it. The ventilation is fine, A large tank of air is stored down at that level anyway for ventialtion purposes. Essentailly large amounts of air are pumped in at one end, and air is pushed out the other end. It requires several hundred small vents each with a pump, each with a radiation esnsor and lots of bends in to stop missiles being directed down them.

Thanks for pointing it out.

The USN Air Force has 30 C-5 transports that can fly evac missions. Just tell them were they can land and make sure people are there to load them up.

An earth quake of 4.5 on the rigter scale has been detected, its epicentre being the Nuclear Power station. It is felt this was to small to have been all of them Rather it is felt that one reactor has exploded. Radar scanners have detected a collapse in the ground above stack 3. Oiur scientists have come to the conclusion Stack 3 has gone critical and exploded.

Luckily the shielding on the other reactors protected them from the blast, and they have not yet overloaded.

Radiation levels on the surface have reached dangerous levels and our men have been pulled back. Evacuation has reached 75%.

The Prime Minister has steped down from power, and has urged that his governement not be blamed for this crisis. However his popularity is still very high and his resignation has deeply upset the country.

With his resignation hardliners have siezed control of the country and have begun searches for more terrorists which may be planning more attacks. While at face value this appears to be a good thing they are more akin to witch-hunts as opposed to a proper investigation. They have also spurned all help from foreign nations and have closed the borders to outsiders, and ordered the experts assembled on the Thunder Child to leave immediately.

The government has declared the emergency is over. However the large amounts of radiation in the area are nessecitating a continued evacuation.

OOC: any nations with any way of monitoring the area should be advised my Governement is lying.
08-03-2004, 21:57
A second earthquake hasa flattened the capital city. The number of dead has risen from 100 to close to 3,000 in less than an hour. An esitamted 10,000 are sick with radiation posioning, and the ground has collapsed around the facility. Radiation levels on the ground are rising fast.

The governement has continued to deny there is a problem, and so a reluctant Ex-Prime Minister has been forced to organise a rebellion. About a third of the army and nearly every civillian is in full support. However the Hardlinners have full control of all strategical positions and will win without a doubt. The nations top scientists estimate the country will be destroyed by up to 90% if another reactor goes.

It is imperative that the crisis be resolved immediatly. With the collapse of the ground it is possible mass water bombing from the air may be enought to put out the fire. However if the facilities protective insulation has been damaged the radiation water will seep into the ground and kill every plant for miles around. It is hoped this will not happen. Also if the carbon rods were lowered the radioactive uranium will not go critical. However if it was not there is still a chance that even with the fires out the station could go critical. As the facilities technitions and scientists are dead we cannot be certain either way.

If the bases corridors have collapsed the water may not reach the entirety and the fire may not go out.

Also the Hard liners will most likely shoot down any planes which fly into our airspace so any attempt must first be procedded by an attack on all anti air batteries and the airforce basses throughout the country netralised.

If any nation wishes to help please send a communication to our headquarters in the main refugee camp, southern Fairweather Eden.
08-03-2004, 22:23
Hard liners: It has come to our attention that a small rebbelion has attempted to make out there is a continued crisis in our country and have used this to attempt to gain access to the use of your armies for the purposes of taking control of the capital.

The crisis is over, the earthquake earlier was mere after shocks, and nothing more.

Any nation which intervens in our internal affairs will be delt with harshly. We have not yet developed nuclear weapons, but we do have radioactive materials which if added to conventional weapons would have the same affect as a dirty bomb, and our entire airforce will be tasked with the exploding of one of these over the capitals of any country which chooses to disregard our warnings.
09-03-2004, 10:23
The government has opened its first attack on us. Several missiles have hit the refuge camps, killing hundreds. A small battle between our army and theirs ocured at 9am, in an attempt to destroy the largest air force station in the country. I am sad to say however it did not ocur as planned, and it is only out of action for a few days. Further attacks are planned, hopefully we will soon report the loss of all their air force bases, and surface to air missile batteries, so that our plan can be carried out.

The easy green government wishes to support the over through of this hard line government. we need to no do you have a seaward nation if you do we can help.
09-03-2004, 17:44
Yes our nation does have a small sea coast. However the area ios heavily mined, if you attempt to enter the area be carefull. How many planes do you have. So far we have taken out 90% of their airbasses, and the last 150 men have gone in to take out the last ones. Our army is mainly dead, but it will succede. The sam batteries are still operational. However we have no power left to take them out.

We have dispatchted the co-ordianates to your military of all sam batteries. When the last airforce base is destroyed what is left of our military will be regrouped and sent to attack the nuclear bunker the hardliners are controling the country from.
12-03-2004, 00:17
The sam batteries are down, it is now imperative that the nuclear power plant is bombarded by water. We have at best two hours before the other reactors blow and ruin the southern half of our lush country, and spread enough nuclear material across the globe to cause mutations for decades to come. We also need urgent aid for the refugee camps. They are running low on food and many are now out of basic medical supplies such as plasters, let alone important things.

A third reactor is reported to have gone up, and radiation is spreading out across the area. An area 1 mile wide is now lethal to humans. AS further ten mile perimeter is dangerous and a hundred mile perimeter may be in some danger. Luckily the depth of the centre has shielded the ground from the worst of it, but it is now no longer capable of helping, and the next time a reactor blows will be a catastrophe for our citizens and the country.

Flames are now visible on the surface, and the trees are already smouldering. Any nation with the ability to drop water across the area is requested to forewith. Any assistance now will be looked upon most favourabuly in the future.
12-03-2004, 00:33
Large scale evactions of the population in the immediate area are now complete. It has been decided the country will be evacuated fully to enable our people to survive should the worst happen. We have commendered all ships in the ports of our country for the use of transporting men and materials to the site of a new land for our people to live. We have managed to cram many people onto the first wave of boats and have about 5,000 boats each with close to 6,000 people on average. This means we can transport 30 million people from the country each hour. This means that by the time of the explosion we hope to have a quarter of our country in safety, and an ( 1/8 ) being boarded onto the third journey. Another 40 million have already fled by car into nreighbouring countries, and have aranged for their transport to the new land by other means. This leaves just a mere 90 million people in harms way. Any assistance other nations may be able to render in the transport of these people will be rewarded very well.
12-03-2004, 00:42
In a plague of brotherly love, the merchants and seafaring citizens of Chocoholics Paradise have thrown together an enormous convoy of ships, from ocean liners to fishing vessels. Escorted by the Oreo naval flotilla, they should arrive in your nation in two days. We only hope they arrive in time.
13-03-2004, 22:08
Ten minutes ago the rest of the reactors exploded in a bright flash of searing heat and light. An earthquake has trigged an uinderwater landslide, and the harbours of our great country have all but vanished. ten minutes before the fleet had departed with its 3rd load of passengers. The remaining 90 million people are in an extreme state of panic, and if they are to be saved it must be done now. Fights have already broken out and it is feared that most will kill each other. An absence of wind has so far kept the fall out offf of the refugees, but even now a storm is moving south which will blow the fall out directly at the shore line, and those left awaiting rescue. As far as our new homeland is concerned the building work has already begun on a new capital city. A parliment is already under construction, and many homes are also being constructed.

The fields are sown with grain, the fields are vertile, and a good crop is expected. Building materials are everywhere, and in our tempory camp a massive brick industry has grown up to meet the needs of the people. Beneath the ground excavators are creating a tube network, and a sewage system.

However it is not all good news their either. Our food supplies are extremely short, and even if we have a good crop next year we can expect shortages that will lead to starvation. Disease is rampant in the camps, and fresh water is in short supply.

Power to the city should be up and running as soon as a lrage hydro dam is finished. As may be evident the supplies were waiting for us here. Under defence of the nation act paragraph 4.5.2. It is a requirment of the governemenmt to ensure the pieces are in place at a site many miles from our country to build a new country, should our old one be anhialated by nature, war, disease, nuclear fall out from a missile or power station or any thing else.

The original plan was to transport less than a million to the site though under succsesive governements the number was enlarged. It is currently supporting ten million more than it is designed for, with hopefully another 90 on the way. That is why it is important that other nations send aid to us to ensure our country does not slip into being a third world nation, constantly sucking up money, never improving. If you act now you will save yourself in the long run.

Having just contracted to design and build our first nuclear power plant facility the citizens of ISoW have been following your saga closely. What you are going through is our worst nightmare and the reason we have been so selective in choosing a contractor with a proven track record in nuclear safety and security.

But all that aside, we are mobilizing our resources to send you as much aid as we can as fast as we can. Fortunately, we have recently decided to massively downsize our huge beef-based agricultural sector and all of our warehouses are filled beyond capacity with high-quality fresh meat. We will immediately dispatch a fleet of 6 refrigerated freighters, each packed with a thousand tons of steak and hamburger, to help stave off starvation for your refugees. We realize that 12 million pounds of meat is not enough to support you for long but it is the best we can do on short notice. As soon as we get some more ships in port we will send out another shipment and continue to do so as long as we have a surplus above the requirements of our current contracts.

Good luck to you and please let us know if we can render any more assistance.

Being on such short notice, the Defense Corps of the Grand Duchy of Monte Ozarka can only afford to send an air squadron of KH-12 transport helicopters. They will be laden down with as much grain, beef, pork, and dairy products as they can possibly carry, and will drop their cargo off in your new city (please provide coordinates) before flying as fast as they can to your stranded refugees.

I'm afraid our country is small, so this is all that we can muster right now. When we are provided with more means to aid you, we will.
