Buying small arms weaponry for a small nation

05-11-2003, 17:25
I, representing my nation of Sir John Fastolf, would like to purchase a small number of machine-guns, 1 hummvee, mortars, and of course a large number of small-caliber pistols for my police force and the regular army. We are a small nation of about 8 million, so please understand we cannot purchase a large amount of weaponry.

OOC: If there's already a topic about selling these weapons, please tell me where to go.

Perhaps the following weapon would interest you. It offers the firepower of a rifle with the compactness of a pistol. This isn't a new concept, but it is implemented in a new way. The Fabrique National Five-seveN debuted this concept with its 5.7 x 28mm round.

The 5.7 x 28mm round fired by both the P-90 and the Five-seveN is essentially a rifle round slipped into a pistol. The 4.7 x 33mm Caseless round is only marginally longer than the 5.7 x 28mm round, but thinner than that round, allowing it to fit twenty four shots into the pistol grip.

Firing a bullet weighing 3.25 gramms at 960 meters per second with the possibility of firing three-round bursts, the R47 is a pistol capable of punching through body armour and helmets. Thanks to its firepower, its small size, and its three-round burst capability, it not only makes a fine sidearm, but an excellent Personal Defense Weapon for tankers.

Crvena Armoury R47

Designed around the same 4.7 x 33mm caseless round as Heckler & Koch's G11 assault rifle, Crvena Armoury's R47 pistol expands on the concept put forth by Fabrique National's Five-seveN pistol. Even though the DM11 4.7 x 33mm round is longer than the standard pistol round, or even the 5.7 x 28mm round used by the aforementioned pistol, the grip fits well into the hand, and the recoil impulse is minimal, even on three-round bursts.

Incorporating a threaded barrel for a silencer, the R47 is extremely quiet when so equipped. Without the need to eject spent cartridges, the R47 makes very little bolt noise and, when firing subsonic ammunition and silenced, is extremely difficult to hear in action. Rather than an ejection port, the R47 includes a unique mechanism for pushing a chambered round back into the magazine.

The charging lever is pressed upwards to chamber a round and downwards to return it to the magazine. In the event that a full magazine is carried with one round in the chamber, simply eject the magazine and then depress the charging lever to drop the extra round out the butt of the weapon through the magazine well. When firing the weapon, the charging lever does not move at all.

Performance of this weapon is similar to that of the G11, though it is understandably less accurate over long ranges. Fully automatic fire is not provided for, though the R47 can fire three-round bursts at the G11's 2,000 rounds-per-minute rate, meaning the actual felt-recoil only affects the weapon after the last bullet in a three-round burst has exited the barrel, resulting in exceptional accuracy. As a result, and an interesting side note, a three round burst from this weapon looks and sounds like one loud single shot.

Notes
Designed to replace the HMMWV (Humvee) jeeps already in service, the MPV-1 Hunter was designed specifically to out-perform the Humvee in all particulars. In operations in Mogadishu, the HMMWV showed a critical weakness: The gunner of the pintle-mounted weapon was exposed to enemy fire, making him an irresistable target to incoming fire. The center rear seat controls the Remote Control Weapon Station, with an auxilliary station before the front passenger seat in the unlikely instance that the gunner is incapacitated. Above the center seat is the armoured egress hatch, through which the weapon station can be reloaded.

Each of the windows, and the windscreen can be lowered to allow the firing of infantry weapons. Alternately, they can be raised to offer protection against anything up to a 7.92mm Mauser M03/05 rifle round. The body panels will stop everything up to a Russian M30/38 12.7 x 108mm heavy machine gun round. It can ford rivers up to seven feet deep, and climb a 70% grade. It can drive on a sixty degree side slope, and maintains a sixteen-inch ground clearance when fully loaded. The engine will run on diesel, coloured diesel, DF-2, JP-4, JP-5, and JP-8 jet fuel, and VV-F-800 fuel out to a range of five hundred and sixty kilometers while carrying three cavalry scouts, and two full loads of ammunition for their weapons, as well as man-portable anti-tank guided missiles.

Heavily armed and well-armoured, the MPV-1 is a superb replacement for the HMMWV, and other similar such vehicles.

The Ministry of Defence Procurement and Export has now released the Army’s new standard combat rifle for export sale.

The design of the new Standard Combat rifle and its variants are derivatives of the Tavor Assault Rifle (manufactured by Israel) and has proven extremely effective since it was first introduced several months ago.

The Weapon

The weapon is a gas operated, selective fire, magazine fed assault rifle of bullpup configuration. It is available in several other configurations, which differ in the barrel lengths and accessories. The basic configuration is the SCR-21 assault rifle with the 460mm barrel. Next are the compact assault rifle, called CSCR-21, with the barrel 380 mm long, and the micro assault rifle (SCC-21) ,with a barrel of only 250 mm.
SCR-21 utilizes a long piston stroke, rotating bolt action, with the gas piston rigidly attached to the bolt carrier. The gas cylinder is located above the barrel and is completely enclosed by the gun housing. The rotating bolt is similar to one found in the M16 rifle and has seven lugs. The ejection ports are made on both sides of the weapon, and the right or the left side ejection can be selected by installing the bolt with the ejector mounted on the right or on the left, respectively (for either left-hand or right-hand firers). The bolt carrier rides on the single guide rod, with the return spring unit located above it, behind and inside the hollow gas piston rod. The charging handle is located at the front left side of the gun and does not reciprocate when gun is fired. The charging handle slots are cut on the both sides of the gun housing, so it can be installed on either side of the weapon, as required. The trigger unit is more or less conventional, with the ambidextrous fire mode selector / safety switch located above the pistol grip.
The SCR-21 has no separate receiver. Instead, all parts are mounted within the high impact-resistant housing, reinforced with steel inserts where appropriate. The access to all the internal parts is controlled by a hinged plate, which can be swung down for internal inspection and disassembly.
SCR-21 has no open sights. It is fitted with the standard Pi accessory rail on the top of the gun. The Standard sighting equipment for the SCR-21 series rifles (except for the SSCR-21 sniper rifle)a complicated and expensive optical reflex-type sight with the built-in laser pointer. For the night time operations the sight can be complemented with a compact night vision device.
