Description:

The General Assembly,

By educating children about sex, the world can hopefully come healthier place, therefore…

HENCEFORTH:

1) All member-nations with state-funded education systems must provide some form of sex education to students enrolled in their schools. The curriculum must include:

-Sexual anatomy and functions
-Puberty and the changes during this period
-Sexually Transmitted Diseases, esp. AIDS
-Pregnancy and fetal development

Additional topics such as masturbation, abstinence, abortion, contraception, feminine hygiene, rape, and paraphilias may be included at the member-state's disgression.

2) It is recommended (by not mandatory) that lessons in sex education be taught to students at the onset of puberty. In humans, this is usually occurs from ages 9-12, with females beginning slightly earlier than males.

the UN has no place dictating curriculum in individual nation's schools. i like your proposal, but that is the major sticking point for us, plus this would come under general health education, and i am not sure whether that is already covered.

edit....

a better way of formatting this is to say 'information should be available' instead of 'schools should teach'. that way, if it isnt apart of the current curriculum, then parents who want to teach their children about these things can.

I agree with the proposal, but Hirota does not agree with the idea of establishing a UN Curriculum, which is a disturbing recent tre

Does it matter if another country is full of redneck idiots who don’t know how to make babies?

Your proposal contains much of sex education curriculum currently in place in Hirota, but we see no need to force other nations to take a responsible position on the issue.

If I changed it to somting like 'Strongly encourages' member nations to follow this, would that be better? Although, that makes the whle thing rather pointless, I guess, as those who agree with it are probably already doing it...

I like pretending the resolution is requesting rather than demanding - at least we can pretend to be polite when forcing proposals down nations throats. ;)

I see your:

And match with:

Why should I have to involve with instructing Tekanians about AIDS? It only affects homo sapiens... The AIDS epidemic is handled in our Xeno-biology and Interstellar Cultures courses... Since we're not effected as a species by the HIV virus and the subsequent AIDS that can eventually result.

Your resolution, while well written (although I do see a few typos in the first sentence), will not be recieving my support due to the reasons everyone else stated.

Yes it most certainly does. Each and every person on the planet is affected by the level of education of our fellows. Irresponsible, uneducated sexual activity is repsonsible for the wide transmission of many diseases which can become a danger to every one of us, whether through our own sexual relations, or through alternate methods of transmission. In a more general sense, a well educated populace on all issues (including current hot topics such as sex ed and evolutionary theory) is vital for conducting informed political debate to improve our nations and our world, and is necessary even for healthy maintenance and groth of all societies. Knowledge is power. Education is essential.

But still, people have a point about the flaws of the resolution (although with some minor modifications I would back it).
