I submitted this proposal and kindly ask UN delegates for their support.

Brussel Sprout Consumption

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights

Strength: Mild

Proposed by: Brunodom

Description: NOTING that in many cultures the forced eating of brussel sprouts particularly over the festive period causes many people a great deal of distress.

A negative early experience with the sprout can often put a damper on Christmas and indeed put a person off ever broadening their culinary horizons.

REALISING that to improve the image of the brussel sprout industry efforts must be made to dispel this negative image.

REALISING that a proportion of the population likes consuming brussel sprouts.

THEREFORE the United Nations institutes amongst all member nations a legal right NOT to have to eat brussel sprouts at any time.

Nobody can add sprout to the dinner plate of any person, young or old without their prior consent.

THUS those who wish to consume the sprout can do so at their pleasure. Those who try sprouts and don't like them never have to eat them again; whilst those who never want to try sprouts never have to.

THEREFORE all people can enjoy life with or without the brussel sprout and the reputation of the sprout will improve.

I am happy to answer any questions as the proposals author. It's a lighthearted attempt at solving an age old problem and is slightly different compared to the topics normally considered by the UN.

The proposal can be found until Thursday. Thank you for your time everyone.

Description: NOTING that in many cultures the forced eating of brussel sprouts particularly over the festive period causes many people a great deal of distress.

Forced eating? Proof?

A negative early experience with the sprout can often put a damper on Christmas and indeed put a person off ever broadening their culinary horizons.

Huh? Is this really of international concern?

REALISING that to improve the image of the brussel sprout industry efforts must be made to dispel this negative image.

Negative image?

REALISING that a proportion of the population likes consuming brussel sprouts.

Yep, I like 'em myself.... They're a good healthy veggie.

THEREFORE the United Nations institutes amongst all member nations a legal right NOT to have to eat brussel sprouts at any time.

No... There is no need of such right, because it is.... To be blunt, retarded.

Nobody can add sprout to the dinner plate of any person, young or old without their prior consent.

No... Parents can make their kids eat what they serve. Because they are parents. Sprouts are good for them... They will eat them, or they will get no dessert....

THUS those who wish to consume the sprout can do so at their pleasure. Those who try sprouts and don't like them never have to eat them again; whilst those who never want to try sprouts never have to.

And kids will eat sprouts if their parents tell them to.... That's how it works.

THEREFORE all people can enjoy life with or without the brussel sprout and the reputation of the sprout will improve.

This resolution is retarded, and does not have any place in UN legislation....

To top that off, you sir, will eat your sprouts, or you get no dessert.

Remember what happened to the last one who didn't eat their sprouts!

Ahh this is why I joined the United Nations, I always said to my parents, "Just you watch, one day I will join forces with others and banish Brussel Sprouts by golly!" and here is my golden opportunity!!

Necros-Vacuia has never engaged in the forcing of brussels sprouts upon its populace; particularly sprouts unblessed by an Apostate, as those who eat unblessed vegetables will burn in the Pits.

However, children who do not eat their blessed vegetables, sprouts or no, are told by their parents that the Predecessors will take their family away.

This usually inspires the child to eat...but this is, of course, an anecdote.

Parents have a right to impose their will upon a child they have produced, as long as it is in that child's better interests; as eating a properly blessed vegetable or leg of lamb would be, instead of eating CrunchySnacks all day.

To make a proposal that overrides that right is, indeed, "wicked retahded."

Next we'll have a delegate propose that children have the right to watch their vidscreens and play MexSox all day...

We force our prisoners to eat Brussle Sprouts. We are fully against this. lol

I'd like to ban them, but my people would revolt :( I suppose I could handle them...

At last, a topic of major importance to debate!! Bahgum agrees that the sprout should not be force fed or even placed on a plate in the expectation that you may want it, and will happily endorse such a proposal. In Bahgum the sprout is on the official list of evil vegetables, alongside the sneaky parsnip which hides on a plate pretending to be a roast potato.

Oh and as for the proposal being 'retarded'. Stop taking things seriously, it's a funny proposal and meant as such. I'd rather see this than yet another drug/gay.marriage/religion proposal. Have a laugh, enjoy, dismount the high horse etc....

I don't dismount... I do not have that, convenience as a UN Delegate... I must weigh all proposals heavily, because it is my duty as a Delegate to do so...

And I have to deal with "National Sovereignty!", "This is against my Constitution!" and "Moral MAjority" resolutions on a daily basis... So my level of humor is somewhat low... Especially over holiday times when, for some odd reason, Proposal quality decreases in the queues...

As a fellow UN delegate i've yet to feel worried or annoyed by fun. Oh well.

Whether this proposal is fitting or not, refrain from using such words as retarded. People need to learn to disagree in a respectful and kinder manner.

(smirk) I thought there were various resolutions protecting prisoners rights in the UN?

Thanks Avenging Angels, thinking about it, that was what provoked me to comment for the proposal. there are poor silly proposals, but in this case it's a nice touch of humour.

The Markodonia delegation agrees wholeheartedly, and furthermore regards Bahgum's comment on those darn parsnips to be of international import.

The Doors Corporation enjoys properlly planned fun and will strive to push its Regional Delegate into voting for this proposal.

About dang time we didn't have to debate on the legalization of some hemp, gayness, religion resolution :) .. Of course I've only been around for 2 resolutions...

You can disagree and debate but calling something retarded is out of line, and is uncalled for.

Also, against your consistitution? If you are in the UN you must deal with to some degree that what the UN passes may very well encroach on local laws you may have, thats how I feel, and people don't like they can always go to the UN page and hit resign.

Why get so pissed off anyways? this is just a game, and someone was trying to add humor. I don't really see the harm in this.

Thanks to all for your support on this proposal and thanks to those who were not supporters but contributed to this discussion.

The Brussel Sprout Resolution did not reach quorum (GASP!!!) however did manage to gain 45 supporters during the time it was up. I hope there will be another chance at somepoint in the future to solve this problem.
