Minimal Military

A resolution to slash worldwide military spending.

Category: Global Disarmament Strength: Strong Proposed by: Facades

Description: WHEREAS military buildup costs could be better applied towards social needs.
WHEREAS excess military threatens to create a police state and threaten civil liberty.
WHEREAS military action is an atrocity.
WHEREAS many nations are not UN states and are not bound by our ideals and may perceive UN states as vulnerable military targets

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the UN member countries shall proportionately provide funding and troops for a collective military infrastructure of no more than 500,000 troops to be administered and directed by due UN procedure. Said military will be provided for the sole purpose of repulsing offensive military action of a non-UN state directed towards a member state. Under no circumstances will these troops be used for offensive action including a perceived humanitarian crisis in any country. UN troops will minimize impact on civilian life and infrastructure and strategically use minimal force to counteract offensive actions.

I can see it now. One UN nation will downsize, then that country's enemy will steam roll it into oblivion.

That sounds great! And then non-UN nations like me with multi-million man militaries can come and crush you like small bugs. You might as well create a proposal to create national mass-graves, and do some stuff to boon the white-flag making industry.

It's completely moronic proposals like this that made me leave the UN.

Looks like that needs my clawmark of disapproval
The Furry Folk will be defended by our own defence force not some outside force

The scheme does not seem to be workable. In addition to these other objections, defense must have some consensus behind it; some local support. If a nation is forced to participate in this plan against its wishes, it will not willingly or effectively support defensive efforts.

Finally found the idiot thing buried down on page 10 just above an even lamer proposal littered with more bad spelling than a room full of 6 year olds

If this thing passes, Corinto is going to follow a Costa Rican path where we have no standing army but a massive police force with tanks and helicopters.

If you're not a Un member, your opinion doesn't really matter in this case, does it?

I have a better idea--let's NOT eliminate or severely hamper the ability of a nation to provide for its own defense.

His point is, moron, that if the entire UN downsizes its military force to only about 500,000 men, then how can such a force protect every single UN member throughout NS?

I can't believe stuff like this gets past the mods. Proposals like this should die with their creators.

The legislation even says that non-UN nations may percieve UN nations as easy targets. If anyone with a braincell left intact reads this trash, they would be able to recognize that weakening all member nations, already percieved as weak, would be catastrophic.

I leave it up to the other delegates to make sure this doesn't move to a vote. I know I won't vote for it.
