"The nation you are writing to is part of a school class. Its members cannot receive telegrams from outside their own region."

So is Nation States now hosting classes? Amazing. Teachers have integrated this game into their curriculum. Maybe I should show my nation to a professor and demand credits! 8)

Anyways, I tried to respond to a TG sent by some one in the region. As you can see, it wouldn't fly. Why not?

I thought of telling this site to my NSL teacher but I don't think the NS community would like the new members :|

Yep, there are a couple of schools running NationStates-based classes. I've designated their regions as private, which means the nations in it can't leave, nor receive TGs from outsiders. They're also all UN members even though they share a computer lab.

addendum,

I emailed the teacher this

Greetings Mr Campbell,
I saw your Classes Nation States Project website, my nation is 1 Infinite Loop, I am delegate of the East Pacific region, as you may know I make custom flags for nations if you like I can make a custom flag for your students as a reward for whatever goals you set, such as top nation each week (Mon _ Fri) let me know what you think,
if you are interested I wll post them here
http://invisionfree.com/forums/The_East_Pacific/index.php
in teh East Pacific's offsite forum, there is also a gallery of some I have done for others to give you an idea of what I can do,
I thank you for your time in reading this,

Wonderful, glad you did this. I recall the nation who was a school teacher, explaining not all of her students had e-mails to get into the UN, not to mention the whole sharing a PC thing. Very glad you found a way to make NS more functional, more part of something.

Nice site, but I have a bit of beef.

Nationstates is an on-line message board created by Max Berry, author of Jennifer Government, a novel set in a "parallel universe" in which corporations have virtually replaced governments as the operative ruling forces on the planet. Nationstates is a (potentially) amusing message board in which people create nations and respond to a limited set of questions (about 30) daily in which they determine the sort of government their nation has.

NationStates is a MESSAGE BOARD???!!?!?!?!?!? *explodes in rage*

And there are now about 80 issues.

(1) Ranking Points: Once you have been admitted into the Region of Bornemania, every Monday, I will check to see which three nations are ranked highest in whatever is being ranked that day. The highest rank will receive three points, the second highest will receive two points, and the third highest will receive one point. If there is a holiday on Monday, I will check the next day (Tuesday) to see who is highest ranked. Additionally the very last country on the list will get a "Pity Point." Those points will be immediately input that same day for ranked students registered in the class. If the ranking from one week to the next is based on the same factors, the ranking will be taken from the next day's list.

This is obviously going to unfairly favor pro-business nations.

(4) If any member (current or not) nation of Bornemania succeeds in getting a proposal to the UN I will award 10 points to them (either immediately on their grade or to be distributed as "foreign aid"). If any member nation succeeds in getting an "issue" accepted and posted by Mr. Max Barry, I will also award 10 points.

I hope he means a resolution....

you know, I think someof us should seriously consider "Helping" with that,
the part about the getting a UN resolution accepted,

hey [violet] can the members of the school groups view the boards?

perhaps they should be given the ability to set a Buddy list of natios that they can speak to, and can speak to them as well, make it easier for them to get issues help and support for their resolution, as well as help those who wnat my aid in making flags.

Technically they can, but I don't think any of them will be, at least on school time. The idea is that the school class doesn't interact with the rest of the NS community. Obviously it would kill the class idea pretty quick if students came into contact with inappropriate material on this site.

No, no. Teachers can have their students have "School Accounts" which have certain limitations, including the inability to receive telegrams from nations outside their region.

Essentially, it let's school projects happen without the teacher having to worry about their student getting "U R GHEY!!!111lololololololololol" telegrams.

What are you talking about? We have ideal nations for this type of project. You notice that we're ALWAY at the top of the list for UN economy related rankings, which compose 90% of the UN rankings categories. Granted our personal governing styles may be somewhat distasteful to an "ultra liberal hippy teacher" who would be so inclined to adopt this as a learning tool..................yeah..........
