Rugby World Cup VIII - CLOSED

Snake Eaters

"Welcome, one and all, to The Shadow Republic of Snake Eaters, and to the 8th Rugby Union World Cup! It is our pleasure to see so many teams from so many corners of the planet arriving in our humble nation to play a sport that is forever associated with honour, creed and above all, a high standard of sportsmanship.

With the pools already announced, and the teams on their way, we extend our hospitality to all those who wish it. One final note before we begin, however.

As Lord-President, I have seen many things. I have seen war, I have seen peace. But in rugby, even if you loose, take it gracefully. You are here not only to fight over the trophy, but to enjoy yourselves. And of course, may the best team win!"

That was Lord-President Barbarossa's opening address to the assembled nations for the Rugby World Cup here in Snake Eaters. As all will now know, there are two main stadiums in Snake Eaters hosting World Cup games. The first (http://www.sixtiescity.com/Events/Images/wembley.jpg), here in Cinigrad, will host games from both Group A and B, on alternate days of course. The second (http://www.st-vincents-toronto-gaa.com/images/2002%20Season/Croke_Park_c.jpg), further down the coast in Oured, will host games from Groups C and D, both of which are slightly smaller groups, but by no means any less in calibre. The final, scheduled for a few weeks from now, will take place in Snake City itself, in the Helghast Memorial Stadium (http://www.compuserve.co.uk/channels/sport/rugby/five_nations/structure_images/twickenham.jpg).

Welcome to Rugby Today on BazSports. I'm your host James McKenna.

Before we look at the local league action for this week, let's look at the draw for the Rugby World Cup in The Shadow Republic of Snake Eaters. The Bazas have made their first appearance into the international rugby scene. So let's have a look at the pool.

POOL B
Bazalonia
Az-cz
Alexandrian Ptolemais
Druida

Most of these nations Sports fans will know from the World Cup of Soccer, but another game and another set of rules means that anything can happen. So let's have a look at these other nations.

Az-cz: We all know about these Gnomes, just how they will handle scrums against teams that have hundreds of Kilograms in mass is something that is yet to be seen but what this team lacks in size. It would certainly make up in tenacity. Don't under-estimate this team.

Alexandrian Ptolemais: We don't really have much to say. Havene't made a splash in Soccer, probably won't make one in Rugby Union either. Though we have heard from a number of sources that they are a very fit and do a very mean scrum.

Druida: A nation that has just come back onto the international sporting stage after spending an excruciating time in exile from their homeland. However they are back and now, they are here in the sports arena. Just how well they will do is just a matter.

Also in World Cup of Rugby news, The roster for the Bazas have just been released.

Forwards:
Loose Head Prop: Michael Angelous
Hooker: Leonard Brocker
Tight-Head Prop: Ignatius Machavelle

Lock: Frederick Alphonzo
Lock: Darryl Smith

Blank-side Flanker: George Howard
Number 8: Taylor McBruce
Open-side Flanker: Nathan Healey

Backs:

Scrum-Half: Terry Jones
Fly-half: Henry Grahams
Inside Centre: Randy McNaught
Outside Centre: Jeremy Hoskings

Right Wing: Wayne Denston

And now onto the weekly action...
