March 2005 Presidential Elections (2005a)

Candidates

Incumbent
President David Mitchell - Pilotan Democratic Party (D)
Profile: Born into a impoverished family, Mitchell studied hard in school and was granted a full scholarship from the government's Educated in College program to go the Saint Nicolas University - one of the world's top educational establishments. He was elected Governor of the Christmas Bay province in 2004a and was re-elected in 2004b and 2004c. He was elected President, ousting the Republican Robert Harrows by a wide margin in 2004d.

Primary Challenger
Senator Jonathan Roberts - Pilotan Republican Party (R)
Profile: Roberts was son to CEO of National Communications, the nation's biggest telecommunications suite. But don't think his priveledged background meant favors. He studied hard and go into Saint Nicolas University and graduated top of his class (in a different year than Mitchell). He was elected Senator in the second district of the Hartford province in 2003d and was re-elected again in 2004a and 2004b. He ran for Governor of Hartford in 2004c, but lost to his Democratic challenger. He returned to politics via the third district in 2004d and is remained a large opponent to some of Mitchell's liberal policies.

Third Party Candidate
Governor Christopher Connolly - Pilotan Independant Alliance (IA)
Profile: Brought up in a well-to-do family, some have suggested that Connolly is too disconnected from some of the ordinary problems to be a true representative of the people. However, that hasn't stopped him from being elected Governor of the New Haven province six times (from 2003a to 2004d) with a masterful approval rating -- 70%. He is considered the first true third party candidate to be able to even up the polls.

OOC: We support the Democratic Party, who favor individual liberties above all else. The Republicans and the Independent are too militaristic. Though both parties have other pros (Both support free trade), they do not support individual freedoms it looks like. Too bad they are all against drug legalization. :(

"...and in other news, the center-right Pilotan President David Mitchell is leading in Presidential polls in his country, beating out the right-wing Independent Alliance and the far-right Republican Party challengers. Although many of our viewers may be perplexed by the apparent similarities between the candidates, to Pilotans, a relatively conservative people, the differences are apparently quite stark.

We now move on to the next installment in our ongoing series on the sexual behaviors of muskrats..."

we wonder why you hold elections, you subject your nation to the randomness of the people's vote. That is a dangerous road to go on.

Election 2005a

CHRISTMAS BAY, PILOT (PNN Headquarters) -- All campaigns are chugging hard, courting voters from the New Haven to Navassa after early exit polls show that the Democratic President Mitchell is far ahead of both his major opponents, IA's Connolly and the Republican's Roberts. The fairly accurate polls have shown that Mitchell is pulling just over a majority of the 4 billion-populated nation. For the first time, a third party, the Independent Alliance, seems to have pulled a good length ahead of the Republicans - a party which had the White House and control of the Governors Assembly in 2004c and still maintains a three-seat majority in the National Senate Assembly.

The Roberts Campaign has said that it believes the exit polls are undersampling strong turnout for the Party from traditionally Democratic precincts and says that when the final votes are tallied, Roberts will have replaced Mitchell and done away with Connolly.

The Senate races seem to following the same patterns, according to the polls, however. If election results hold up, as many political scientists believe, the Democratic Party is set to take back control of the National Senate Assembly with a clear majority and the Independent Party swiping some seats away from the Republicans in moderate districts. The Sierra Paracel Party, the more liberal half a party that formed after the split of the Democratic Party in 2003b, appears to maintain status-quo with their 15 seats.

All is subject to change, however. There is still over a week left to voting, so we encourage all those eligible to get out there and cast their ballots.
